Question Any way to change boot logo? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Idk if this is a thing for pixels, but is it possible to change the boot logo/animation for when the phone turns on?

I too would like to know the answer to this. My best guess is we will need root. My pixel is carrier locked and as far as I know I can't root till I get her unlocked. So I'm betting I won't be able to make even this small little change.

As a follow up....my first search results
Google brings Material You to your Pixel's boot screen
The latest feature drop brings the dynamic color themes to your boot-up animation
www.androidpolice.com
So theoretically yes we can use homemade themes. If we can get around the security. Which is where root comes in handy.

I saw one thread in the general Android hacking/modding forum where someone with a Pixel 6 was making a ROM for themselves and was having an issue with their custom boot animation. It wasn't compiling or whatever due to the animation zip they provided. But that's all I've seen on it.
Edit: My Pixel 6 Pro is a Google version and the bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted.

Get the Nexus One's opening animation on the Desire

Hey, another question...
Is there a way to get the Nexus One's animation for opening programs on the Desire?
Installing the Launcher2.apk unfortunately didn't do it. Maybe there's another version of it with the animations?
Or is there any other way to do it?

Not before root access has been released
And when/if root access is possible, how will it be done, then?

well i don't know for sure but probably just changing a file in the root file system
Thanks. I hope somebody can figure it out.
You'd have to flash a new bootscreen, not hard, needs root.
No, I don't mean the bootscreen. I mean the animation when opening apps from the home screen.
I read somewhere that its currently exclusive to the nexus one 2.1 but it will be as standard in froyo. Maybe we'll have to wait til froyo is out (unless you want to root)
It's available on the Motorola Droid as well.

Wow, didn't know that! If the droid has it, we should have it too!
We definitely should have it. It's soo nice, I miss it since I exchanged the Nexus for a Desire.
You are NOT talking about the bootscreen are you? You mean that when you open an app, it 'fades in' and 'fades out'? (like on the iPhone?)
From what I know, but then again may be removed from the Desire, you must go to options, screen options and somewhere in these options there is a 'animation' option.
Please see this vid and around 3:30, he shows how to turn on that 'animation'.
Now I do not know if this is what you are talking about, but even if it is not, could somebody please tell me if this option is also present on the Desire?

Yes, that option is present, but only activates the screen transitions inside of apps, but not the launch animation. On the Nexus and Droid, it activates ALL animations.
It seems HTC have taken those animations out. I really don't understand why, and I want them back.

NOEZ!
I can't believe this... slowly there are more and more things that make me be unsure about the Desire. First the battery life, second the bad sound volume and now I hear that the awesome 'launch' fade-in and out a la iPhone animation is not present.
Could somebody tell me if this can be changed after rooting the Desire? Which btw, is something like 'jailbreaking' your iPhone right? Is it hard to root a device running Android like the Desire?
Battery life is quite good, about the same as the HD2 I had before. I also have no complaints about the sound volume, don't know what people are talking about.
Only complaints I have are the missing animations and the limited internal storage (since it still can't be rooted).
I'm really happy with the device apart from that. It's so much nicer with Android, than the HD2 was.

Jailbreaking = Technically Illegal
Rooting = Enabling the root account on a linux system (aka Administrator).
It should be available in "Spare Parts" after rooting.

No, it is NOT illegal. It's merely a breach of the EULA; which has bugger all to do with legalities. The worst that can happen is that you invalidate your warranty by "jailbreaking". (I hate that term as well, it's merely CID and SIM unlocking, something we've being doing on XDA for years, but nooooo.... Apple users just HAVE to have their own word for it, as if they invented the whole concept...)
I'm hoping HTC enable it in an update. Any chance of that happening?
Now that it's rooted, does anyone know how we could get it?
I noticed in the video posted that even after the nexus one enabled all animations it didn't have the "zoom" animation from within the settings (like going from main settings list to the wireless or sound and display menu)
Is it possible to have the zoom animation everywhere, i am sure i has this before with other roms. It may have been called moto blur or just blur animations?

Widget to turn the screen off

Since M8 doesn't have option to turn the screen off by double tapping on home screen (I really don't know why), I've used a widget on KitKat to turn it off. Today I've finally updated it to Lollipop, and I have problems with it.
I have Smart Lock enabled (with face recognition), and when I turn the screen off with widget, and turn it on again, face recognition doesn't even start. Only if I turn it off with power button, then everything works. I've tried several widgets from Play store, but all of them have the same problem.
My question is- does somebody know about wigdet that doesn't have this problem? I would be very grateful if someone knows.
Thank you for your answer.
PS. sorry for my bad english
It's very easy. First you need greenify, it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.
On Sense home screen create a shortcut to (Greenify)-Hibernate + Lock screen and that's it.
If you have Nova launcher, than you can have dubble tap to screen off:
Nova settings > gestures and Buttons > double tap > select the same Greenify shortcut again.

Unfortunately, that also doesn't work, same problem as others. I can lock the screen, but it's the same thing when I turn the screen on- face recognition doesn't start.
I have Sense M8 so I have it's stock launcher, it's the best for me. And I'm fully stock, non-rooted.
Still, thanks for reply.

Install this app ,its the one I use .
When you open the app you must active it and upon activating it your screen will shut off.
Unlock your screen and go to widgets to scroll to it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.marinelli.android.TurnOff
I haven't fully understood you, which widgets I have to scroll? Because after updating to 5.0, I can't swipe right on the lockscreen and add widgets.
Unfortunately your screen off widget is the same as others... If it works for you, then maybe it's some random bug after update...

I'm on an official 5.0.1 running a 5.0.2 ROM and can easily add a widget for all apps that have one .
I don't understand what's going on with your device
Its an app and you choose its widget from the home screen like any other.it just turns the device screen off and has nothing to do with facelock
Maybe root and custom
firmware/ROM is in your near future. Most of the lollipop ROMs come with extra features that allow the type of things your wanting

You could still run a GPE ROM or a Sense based "ROM" and gain what you want either way.
If you stay stock and the feature your looking for isn't a part of the system or an app doesn't exist that can do what you want
You may want to Unlock the bootlooader ,flash a custom recovery, and ROOT it so you can open up the phones full potential.

It uses the proximity sensor to wake the device

I've rooted every phone I had, but I don't have time for it anymore. Plus, M8 is a beast even without root.
Well this update haven't brought anything good. They've just mixed Material Design with Sense, it looked better before. They should have animated everything, not just few things. Plus, they removed widgets for lockscreen. I'm waiting for Sense 7, it will be better (I hope so).

I'll just say one last thing and I'm not just trying to irritate your sir.
If you had unlocked and rooted when it was version 4.4.2 than S-OFF would've allowed you to go back in time using ruu.
I agree with Sense not doing very much with lollipop as I'm Dev Sense lollipop base, that's why I'm on GPE cause it's way more visually appealing.
I can tell your a smart person just reading how you write .rooting devices before you'd know it really isn't that hard .

I know it's not hard, but if root my phone I will lose hours and hours on flashing different ROMs, kernels, mods, tweaks, etc. I would'n stop on one thing. So I'll wait for Sense 7, i know HTC would done a good job.
And I don't know what to say about Google and Lollipop... Every device on L has bugs, and battery life is shorter than on 4.4.4... It will probably take them a year to reach stability of 4.4.4. It looks way better, but in the background it's not that good. Step backward, my opinion.
What's going to make Sense 7 any different.when I flash a ROM I just use it the way it boots stock,I don't search for bugs to report even after reading before hand witch bugs have been reported.
Do you have a source link to the Sense 7 information you've been reading to share.I'm an At&t user that converted to Dev edition to receive earliest Sense OTA's .when is Sense 7 ETA do you know
Of course I don't have any information about Sense 7 (maybe it will be Sense 6.5?). But I'm saying, when M9 comes, it will have new Sense, which will probably be better than this (full Material design + other some other features). I don't have any information about it but it's likely to be expected.

Can you change the boot logo?

Yeah, I'll agree with you there! And I believe it's called the splash screen if memory serves. At least that's what it was called in my DINC days. What a great device that was! :good:
Well all we can know for sure is that the (horrific) boot logo is stored somewhere on the device. It's also most likely stored in one of the boot partitions. However, we don't know how the bootloader processes the file, or even what format it is in. Nothing that a little rummaging around can't find out (hopefully)
Update: Yeah the image files are not on the boot partition/s. But I have found them (I think). There are a bunch of .raw files on the abl.img file in the firmware (I'm using the android p beta 4). The files are called like: Charger.bin.raw, Unlocked_Pause.bin.raw and NS.bin.raw, and so on and on. I don't know what to do with these raw files, so any ideas are very VERY appreciated.

does substratum work?

Can anyone confirm that Substratum themes work on this phone?
Substratum wont work on this phone until we have root. Android Pie only allows Substratum to work on rooted phones due to Google's deletion of the overlay management service.
Cool, thank you. It's working on other rooted devices running Pie right? So it's a pretty good shot it'll just work once we have root?

Oh yeah any other device running Pie that is rooted Substratum should work fine depending on the theme. Once we get root we should be good to go.

They probably wont ever say but they dont like us tinkering around with their apps. There was a petition to keep OMS in Pie but they just ignored it and decided, as they usually do, to do what they want. Its the same thing with the Old style navbar,,,the code was there like OMS, just leave it in there for users to use it if they want. I have been with Android since it started and the "freedoms" we once enjoyed are being slowly eroded and choices taken away. Pretty soon we will be Apple and everything will be proprietary.
Annnnd yet another feature taken away from us! I mean really,,,I use this feature just about everyday and now its gone probably like this Pixel 3 will be when I send it back to Google!

I think they just blocked 3rd party overlays, not dropped OMS completely. IF there was no OMS, then Substratum wouldn't work properly, right? A ROM would need the necessary commits from Subs team (frameworks, etc), like we had to do with Nougat. Yet, you can run it on stock AOSPie, as long as you're rooted.
I may have it wrong, lol, I know I'm just ready to get my P3XL

Not sure why I didn't try it. I just assumed it wouldn't work. Not only does it work, everything is themed.
Thanks for saying something. That white ui was painful.
Swift Black on the 3 XL is a God send
Now in all the System and Google apps, you can't even tell there's a notch. Everything has a beautiful silky black look, and you just see the time in upper left and network info in upper right, and no idea there's even a notch in the middle as everything is black which totally hides the notch completely, but it's nice to see that info in the upper corners, makes the screen look like it goes all the way to the edge.

Unless the procedure is different on the P3XL as compared to my P2XL on Pie, the procedure is as follows.
Install the latest substratum from the play store, and grant it root and storage permissions.
Download a quality theme, and there are several.
Open substratum and tick the theme you want to apply.
Select "build and update" to create the overlays you want. Once done, reboot the phone, then go to substratum again, open the manager, then check your overlays, and select enable.
That should do it :good:
I think someone already answered but most forget to go back into Substratum and click enable on all the overlays that you built previously then rebooted. Its not like Oreo where all you had to do was just build and enable. Now, you have to build and enable then reboot and go back into manager and enable the built overlays again.

If I may ask how did you change the navbar ? And put those icons ?

Just Got My Red Magic 5 - Software Limitations

This is the Global version that just came out a couple of days ago. Some minor annoyances that was hoping to get some help on:
1. There seems to be no way to display the battery percentage.
Does anyone know of a system app that I need to disable to get this to work? None of the solutions online work with the Red Magic 5G overlay with Android 10, and I don't want to install a third party widget to get this done.
2. As far as I know, I can't customize the lock screen outside of a wallpaper.
Just shows a general date and time but I would like to put widgets or additional information if possible. If anyone has any insight let me know.
I know the phone just came out, but these two issues are EXTREMELY annoying. I honestly might have to flash this when a method becomes available because I'm definitely not liking the lack of customization Nubia has put on with their Android 10 overlay.

Regarding #1, you are screwed. I've seen this mentioned a few times on different YouTube reviews. Regarding #2, you are correct. But even more surprising and ridiculous is #3, which I'll add here. It appears Nubia is forcing you to use the stock launcher! Yes, that's right, it's currently IMPOSSIBLE to use ANY launcher other than the one that comes out of the box. Nubia has said that this is INTENTIONAL! CRAZY!
I have battery percentage on mine.
Settings > power management > electricity percentage.
There is no settings > power management
Yeah same don't have those options.
Also can't figure out how to access APN settings
I've read that the only way to see % battery is to activate AOD, and the % will be displayed.
Best regards.
You have the latest firmware. My god the launcher is so buggy and bad. They really should let you use whichever launcher you want. Also no setting to change screen dpi or size and it doesn't even have the android 10 notifications. You can't expand or delete or reply from notification drawer. This is really really poor
What versions does everyone have.
I am NX659J_ENCommon_V4.05
Pulse version of phone.
I have no power management options.
I can reply in line to notification in the notification tray.
How is your Wifi speed? I have tried mine on 2Ghz and 5Ghz and I only get about 30MB down, whereas my Honor View 20 gets 100MB.
Launcher is fine once you have it all setup, but kept saying shortcut already exists. If you rebooted you see they are there.
Now I have it all as want it, thats not really an issue now, but not a great setup experience.

That's so weird no updates available for mine also
Battery Meter Overlay was the only app that I found to be able to show the battery % (choose the "Overlap the Statusbar" option). You have to buy the paid version if you want to hide it in full screen mode. It is not perfect, but it is better than nothing. You can choose from different kind of themes and change the colours, scale and position so it is pretty customizable
I already new about Nubia blocking the use of custom launchers (saw a review where it was mentioned) before buying the phone and wrote them about it and asked them to revert this bad decision (and I also told them to fix the missing battery %). I hope you all write them about it as well, so they know that they have to fix these issues. And if they don't allow the use of custom launchers they have to give us a better stock launcher with much better customizability.
Do different models have different firmware?
Have they ever pushed an update in previous versions?
Anyone getting poor WiFi speeds?
Mine is just about 30mb down on 5ghz WiFi when my other phone pushes 100mb.
Tried 2ghz even worse.
Thanks

Hi, anyone have any idea when will the global rom be released? Waiting to flash on my CN set..
Just noticed. All incoming calls are showing as "unknown" doesn't even show the caller number.
On O2 in the UK.
Anyone seeing this?
Thanks
Russ
