Question Screen brightness is very dark for Netflix and YouTube - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

Hi everyone,
I got mi pad 5 in india few says back. And I'm facing below issue whenever I'm watching dark scene on Netflix or YouTube, even though my tablet brightness is max still that scene is very much dark that barely can see faces of characters. I'm not a tech guy but i know I've spent 23k on this for watching movies or tv shows and because of this issue I'm really frustrated.
Can anyone please help to how to resolve? or is this pad fault? Is it a software bug or hardware bug? or xiomi will fix this in upcoming updates?
Please help me here.
Screen comparing of same scene from lenovo tablet and mi pad 5(in white case with dark screen)

Change the color scheme to standard, it helps a little with the contrast, another fix I didn't find, very frustrating as well with the hdr and dolby vision support you see very bad dark scenes

Yes sir, I've tried this but still not as expected.
Do you know is this a software bug or hardware? Means is it better to wait for xiomi to fix or to replace tab with other?

I don't think it will be fix, the tablet it's already on the market for almost a year and its not fixed, from what I saw if you have a download movie and you watch it with km player or mx player and choose the colours scheme to standard it's ok'ish but in Netflix app is terrible in dark scenes

you get what you pay for folks, it ain't no Ipad / Samsung Tab quality hence the low price tag

If you use a player which you can control the brightness and the contrast you will have better results, so that means the tablet is capable of better results

I wish HDR - Dolby could be deactivated. But it's impossible, even with root.

Do you have auto brightness turned on or off? Is this HDR content on Netflix?

We must push feedback

Yes the brightness is a little low so I have to watch Netflix in a dark room!

SDR content is fine for me, so definetly HDR/Dolby Vision is the reason
you can try downgrading your netflix plan to Standard which removes HDR/Dolby Vision support
but of course this may not be practical for you
another solution is to use Kodi + Netflix plugin, it has the ability to disable HDR/Dolby Vision even if you are on a premium plan
It's a shame because the screen is actually really good, I don't think its a hardware problem
But I also doubt it will be changed/fixed, maybe if we throw enough report at them

So the fix for this would be to go to special features and then sidebar inside which you have a video toolkit
Enable it for Netflix
And then whilst playing Netflix videos open the sidebar and enable the vision booster option in the sidebar if it shows

this issue has been reported to the official xiaomi forums
feel free to write a reply there that you have the same issue, so it gets more attention from xiaomi
also you can report it on your device from settings -> feedback and provide the Report Id to the feedback team at the forum
https://c.mi.com/thread-4072183-1-1.html

I use this apk to watch netflix in hd without hdr. https://mega.nz/file/kVgDFARC#rA6ASZB-cR65_t-PlHHUwV-6VobbEBc-dEMniK563cI
It from a post in galaxy s2 forum to active hd in unsupported l1 device.

The Display are to dark for HDR Content. 500 nits are not enough

I tried this. Enabled video toolkit for Netflix and selected "Outdoor" as style. The dark scenes became immediately much brighter

But sadly we don't have a fix for custom roms
If anyone has any inputs on this then pls share

Unrealistic colors for Movie/TV viewing... any way to calibrate?

Coming from a professionally calibrated plasma TV, I find the colors very unrealistic when using the Tab S for movie / TV viewing. The colors are way too intense / overblown, and peoples faces appear too pink/red. Is there any way to fix this?

Have you not tried switching display modes?
I find basic mode to be the most realistic, the colours are nowhere near as saturated and much more natural.
I've tried cinema mode. It works for me.
Make sure Reading Mode is not on.
There is a way to calibrate the screen, but for now it involves building kernel from source. I was doing it back on my GT-P6800.
If someone more skilled in kernel patching would make a sysfs interface for that.

I have the 10.5 and am praying someone makes a basic kernel that allows this. The tablet just has a nasty orange/greenish tint when showing human skin. It's the only thing about the tablet I don't like and tried getting used to but can't. Watching videoe, looking at pictures, it's very annoying and forget about editing photos on the tablet, with this tint it's so hard to judge colors that I can't edit raw files using photomate r2 anymore because I end up compensating for the tablets natural tint that the edited pics look ok on the tablet but lacks greens everywhere else.
Anyhow, I'm rambling, but praying for a kernel that allows us to edit the screen tint in synapse!

Found one more screen mode in Accessibility settings AMOLED Cinema (standard), but a bit less contrast.
To try it you can go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision > Color adjustment
Now you'll be offered to sort some color tiles. If you place them correct, it'll say that 'color adjustment unnecessary', but if you switch couple of them, it'll enable color adjustment. It looks like some hue shift, not too much use for healthy vision, but you can turn the 'Color adjustment' slider down and will have that less contrast mode.
Please check it and say, what you think.

You dear sir, has made my tablet experience so much better! Skin tones are now life like and doesn't look completely unnatural. This is a welcomed improvement though it seems to also adjust contrast which I'd rather it not do, but I'm still quite pleased.
Thanks again!

By configurations you mean order of that color tiles? Can you remember how did you ordered them and how that affected the image?
Amazing stuff here. Thanks!
Please, have a look here
Went through the the color sorting thing and after I was done it said "Color adjustment is not necessary", so I guess mine was set up right. The only time people ever looked overly orange to me was when I was watching Jersey Shore repeats.

OnePlus 3 [email protected] recording!!

Guys, I recently received my op3 hoping it would finally have 1080p 60fps video recording in full speed with sound. But, no luck. The Sony imx298 sensor is capable of it according to a PDF I found from Sony. Has anybody had luck with being able to activate that mode.

Does it record audio in highspeed mode?
Could you please try to open the video with the Google Photos app:
On stock OOS 3.2.2, slowmotion videos are treated as high framerate videos
and you can manually set the postion for the slowmotion to start and end just like on the iPhone.
The other areas are played in regular speed. Unfortunately without audio...
Would be great to have both audio and the above method working!

I have not found a slo-mo/full speed changer option in Google photos, you'd have to use an external video editor. But sound is working. One plus must not like high speed recording
Yeah I wish there was sometype of workaround/mod released, kinda sucks too because my Galaxy Note 4, S5 and onward were all able to do 1080p 60fps recording STOCK.

Seems to be legit, checked it in After Effects and every frame is unique.
Has anyone tried Open Camera to record 60fps at 1080p? I tried this on an Honor 7 (as 60fps doesn't come as standard on that phone) but the results were no better than the standard camera app at 30fps. Wondered if the Sony unit on the OP3 would allow Open Camera to do a better job but can't find video examples of this anywhere.

Xperia XA1 videos in apps (Facebook/YouTube) sharp and pixely

I've just got my xperia yesterday and have now noticed in Facebook when I'm scrolling down my feed when I see a video it's very sharp and pixely. It's driving me mental.. In the YouTube app all the videos I watch are very sharp/pixelated, lower the quality the worse it gets but in full HD 720p 1080p it still looks bad but it's not pixely it's just very sharp.. Dont know how to post pics to show you. I've went through the phones screen setting and tried everything but it's still pixely and sharp it's driving me insane.. Anyone else have the same problem?
It it just me having this problem? Is anyone else having this problem?
I know what you mean. It's a big screen, but I think the PPI is not that high. I also took out an Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom with the Xperia so I could compare both, and the Asus' screen is miles ahead in video and graphics quality. That being said, the Xperia's shine is in it's .5 inch larger screen.

Sometimes the simplest solutions lead to the best results I'm glad i can help.
The issue we're experiencing on this phone with video playback is flash in browser.
Tried with Chrome, Opera, lightning browser, same issue. In-app video playback is decent. Maybe not as good as other Android phones, but still good enough to enjoy.
Flash just doesn't deliver a good experience on this phone. The XA1 Ultra is otherwise nice and good value, just too bad it doesn't deliver good video playback in flash. Probably not a big deal, as flash will hopefully soon be a thing of the past. Haven't tested HTML5 in browser yet.
I see this phone can be rooted, so a custom ROM would probably fix this, but no idea what the camera compatibility would be with custom ROM's on this handset.
On a side note, didn't like the UI of the stock Album app, so installed ported Moto G4 gallery via APK.
Same here. Any fix? Ridicolous happening in Facebook Instagram ecc
It's an easy fix guys. Just turn off image enchancement in display settings
It's off for me. No vivid no enhancement

Question Horizontal split screen in Portrait orientation

My question is, is there a way to have a split screen mode in portrait orientation where the apps are above/below each other, instead of left and right? Just like how a phone would handle this.
What i have right now
What i want
Each window has a handle, but you can only swap they position, instead of changing the alignment.
Thanks!
If you turn off miui optimizations you'd get the normal split screen but I noticed the 3 fingers screenshot won't work also.

*EDIT2:*
If someone arriving to this thread later on, i'm on version 12.5.8.
Also as i seems, disabling the optimization, you have to give up on floating windows too.
EDIT3:
since MIUI 13, disabling the optimization, won't disable floating windows.
Unfortunately this wasn't fixed in MIUI 13, which is pretty disappointing.

In the latest version of miui 13 by disabling the optimization does it still allow you to do the horizontal split screen?
Im thinking of buying this tablet but horizontal split screen in portrait mode is essential for me
Also can you move the split bar making one app bigger?

Interesting, it's still MI UI 13 but turning off optimization split screen works in portrait. Previously you've lost the floating window feature because of that, so it's not really worth it. Although it's still broken a bit. So in landscape you can resize the apps in a 33/66 or 50% or 66/33 ratio. In portrait you only have 50% 33/66 doesn't work its snaps back to 50.

Also what do you mean by broken?

Sorry, forgot to answer your question.
I'm not sure about the performance difference between to two tablets, but Lenovo tab p11 pro has a OLED screen, that's a big plus. Although Xiaomi's LCD is good enough for general content consumption, but it's not good enough for HDR movies. In my country the P11 pro was 30% more expensive then the Tab5, and although i would prefer an OLED screen, i was not willing to pay that much.
You can playback two videos in two different apps in portrait split screen. I've tested this with Youtube and Twitch. What you have to keep in mind, that portrait split screen is stuck in 50-50% app ratio. You have no option to change it to 33/66% which you can do in horizontal.

Question Video Fainting while playing on the device

Hi, well I was new here so I was thinking of starting with one problem at a time but,
Whenever I try to play a video, like from all platforms (Prime Video, Youtube, video players like VLC, websites, etc....), the normal color of the video is hindered like there appears to be some kind of a fainting screen overlapping the video reducing the color and playback experience.
And the main thing is this seems to go away when we press the Volume rocker button and until the volume bar appears on the screen the natural colors of the video appear but as soon as it disappears, it goes back to the hindered color version.
It seems like a film is pasted over the screen area and as soon as you press the volume rocker, it is removed!
I have tried formatting and also deleting specific apps used for playing videos and reinstalling them, but of no avail.
Could someone maybe help me out?
Idk if it will work but I would suggest to turn of all options in menu called "Dark Mode options"
Maybe it will help

It seems like a film is pasted over the screen area and as soon as you press the volume rocker, it is removed!
I have tried formatting and also deleting specific apps used for playing videos and reinstalling them, but of no avail.
Could someone maybe help me out?

Nope I have showed it to the xiomi sevice center and they think it might be a motherboard issue and asked me to let them keep the device for a couple of days but since I'm not free enough I couldnt give it to them! Am planning on giving it next week!

Hi there!
I changed my motherboard due to another issue with networks but the video issue still remains!
Now the service center guys are saying that it is a feature in the device but what kind of a feature it is if it doesn't let us use the amoled screen with the original colors and darkness!
Well currently don't know any solution have suggested to feedback app in miui but no updates of the same!
If you have got any solution please do tell!
