Themes / Apps / Mods Solution for non-functioning proximity sensor (for GSIs) - Samsung Galaxy A32 4G

11/05/2022: UPDATED the instructions and the rules.
NOTICE: This method is no longer relevant for the U2-baseband firmware and Android 13-based GSIs, they should work out of the box.
After a couple of weeks of the real-world use of SM-A325 with LineageOS GSI installed, I've found that the phone has no real proximity sensor and that's a real problem. The so called "virtual" proximity sensor mentioned by Samsung is obviously just an emulation done by reading the tilt sensor (vertical position) and the touchscreen (touch anywhere in the upper half).
Almost all of the GSIs use the generic Call app, so just a slight accidental touch with your ear or finger and you can have a whole bunch of functions activated. There is a solution though:
Install the "Automation" app (open-source) by Jens Schröder
Go to the "Rules" tab and press "Add Rule"
Give the new rule some name (e.g. "Turn screen off during call")
Press "Add trigger", "Phone call", "State" = "started", "Call direction" = "any". Press "Save".
Press "Add action", "Turn screen on or off", "Deactivate"
"Save Rule"
If the rule is marked with the yellow dot go to the "Overview" tab, start the service and give the needed permissions
Also press "Control center", "Settings" and make sure that "Start at system boot" is checked.
And another, mode advanced version (if that's too complicated you can just import the attached settings file):
Go to the "Rules" tab and press "Add Rule"
Give the new rule some name (e.g. "Turn screen off during call")
Press "Add trigger", "Phone call", "State" = "started", "Call direction" = "any". Press "Save".
Press "Add trigger", "Device orientation"
Position the phone vertically (Pitch = 0±5) and press "Apply"
Enter tolerances: 180, 70, 180
"Must apply" checked
Press "Save"
Press "Add trigger", "Screen state", "on"
Press "Add action", "Turn screen on or off", "Deactivate"
"Save Rule"
I recommend setting "Signal frequency" in "Device orientation settings" in the settings to 500 ms. This way there will be much lesser chance of lag when phone is lifted up to the ear, while the battery consumption by the Automation app will still remain negligible.
That's it. Now when you receive a call the screen will be turned off. You can turn it on during the call by pressing the side button, the call will not be interruped. When using the advanced version of the rules the side button works only when the device is held horizontally, unfortunately there is no way to improve this but I think that is a very minor issue (or just use the simple version instead).

Updated rules, working with Automation v1.7.6.

This causes an issue in video calling on whatsapp where the phone turns the screen off again and again.

Try the rule that I am using now. It's much simpler and much more reliable. If it does not work for you then probably this solution is just incompatible with WhatsApp. BTW, I am not using it and don't recommend to anyone as it's the privacy-violating app.

It seems that this problem is no longer present at least with the latest Android 13 stock firmware (A325FXXU2CVK3) or even slightly older used together with LineageOS 20.0 or even 19.0. Using the Android 13 firmware also cures another long-standing issue - the non-functional MTP file transfer. Analyzing the kernel source reveals that Samsung obviously abandoned their own f_mtp_samsung driver in favor of the standard f_mtp.

Hi! First of all sorry for my mechanic English hehehe.
I just broke my proximity sensor cause water... , Now im trying this method but I have a question.
Exist some way to put audio in the calls speaker ( the topside speaker used in calls)? For example, I want to listen some Whatsapp audio in private.
I want to put the smartphone on my ear and then automation change the speaker, besides turn off the screen.
I didn't saw any option, just the script option that I don't know how to use it and the "boardcast" option that i dont know how to use it neither.
Thanks in advance.

I am sure that Automation can't do that, changing whatever speaker is used for sound output is ruled entirely by the particular phone app.

Volume Keys Feature

Hey all, I am an iphone convert. Recently purchased the HTC outright. Great phone. Coming from a jailbroken iphone there are a couple of features that I miss. They're not deal breakers but they are really convenient in my opinion..
I love using my phones as a media player. And although there's no equalizer on the desire, I think the quality is pretty good assuming you're using reasonable earphones.
I found an app on cydia for iphone which reassigned my volume rocker.
If I just tap the volume up or down, it changed the volume as normal.
If I hold the volume key up or down, it skipped the track forwards or backwards.
I was hopeful that a developer might see this as a good addition to the Desire and be able to emulate such a function for the volume keys.
Thanks!
Hmm i'm guessing that you don't use the stock headphones with inline controls then. I'm hoping when the device is rooted a lot of hacks should surface. I want to use the optical trackpad press to bring up the lockscreen for instance. And a flashlight app that actually uses the flash and not a bright white screen lol.
nope. Those earphones are way to large for my ears! I can't even fit the buggers in!
But I agree, being able to wake the phone with the trackpad is a must.
Here's hoping sooner rather than later

Excellent idea. There is currently application with proves key rebinding is possible without root (Tasker), unfortunately it doesn't have volume keys and I do not have time now to try implementing a solution for this.
I will personally look into this in a month (extremely busy atm) as a hobby, and hopefully the device will have been rooted by then making this definitely possible. I'm not an amazing dev., but I can hack around to make things work
Went from Dream to iphone, but Android pulled me back with the Desire.
We are all waiting for root indeed! Shouldn't take too long I reckon. It is definately a must to wake up on menu/trackpad or home key. Anyone has some ideas?
No lock also bypasses the lockpattern, too bad. And it looks as if it runs in the background and only turns off the screen. Feels like it wil drain the battery, but maybe I am mistaking.
NoLock is okay, but any key turns the screen on. This could be a pain if it's in your pocket and you accidentally press the volume keys, for instance.
When I had the tweak that allowed me to skip tracks with the volume keys, it took away most of my needs to turn the screen simply to skip tracks. This helped save the battery.
Not only that, it also helps if you are running a different application. You wouldn't need to go back to the home screen to use the widget.
Just a couple more benefits
Hi all,
My 1st post on xda
I'm no developer, and haven't coded anything since ages, but after some digging I think may be possible to implement such a feature.
According to the android developer reference on (sorry, I'm a new user so I can't post links)
KeyEvent
KeyEvent.Callback #onKeyDown
Dialog #onKeyDown
And those forums (search for this on google)
anddev org disable_volume_keys-t10191.html
google groups android developers Long-press hard volume keys
Tell me if I'm wrong, but those links indicate that it is possible to replace the behavior of a key press ("intercepting" it before it gets interpreted by the system that changes the volume setting). Then once you intercepted it, you can check if it is a normal key press (short), in which case you would still allow to "forward" the information to the system. BUT, if you detected that it is a long press, you activate the action "next track" and do not forward the volume information to the system.
Something like (syntax is nor correct, of course)
Code:
public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) // the way I understand this line, it will replace the default behavior of the onKeyDown routine
{
if (keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_VOLUME_DOWN // if the key pressed down is vol_down
...
if the key press is long // don't know the code for that
do the action for next track
return true; // means that you do not forward the keypress to the system
else // if the keypress is not long
return false; // you have not intercepted the keypress, so you forward it to the system
...
else return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event); // if any other key is pressed, forward it directly
}
Any opinions on that? Is the xda forum the right place to talk about code, or are other forums more suited to discuss about that?
Interesting..
If the code looks like that I might have to take up a hobby in learning how to code. It doesn't appear to be tooo difficult at all.
It does look like you may be on the right track there Bricolo_fr..
Cheers for looking into it.
Drew.
I see a potential problem though. You'd need to know what media playback program is actually being used, and it needs to support receiving messages from other programs so that you can tell it to skip to the next track. This might even require different coding for every player program available, if they receive messages in different ways.
In other words, you could end up having to write your own media player program.

Ok, well surely there must be a simple solution?
Why can't we say create an app where you could select which media player you are using (only have a few of the main ones) then we would be able to amend the code as per which option they select before it was implemented?

Sure you can do that; buy you'd have to examine each of those apps, work out if they accept messages, and work out what format said messages need to actually be in.
One would hope they would implement standard interfaces, but that's all it is, a hope.
Well personally, I use the stock player. It ain't the best but it gets the job done. So if it was just created for that at least I'd be more than happy
Thanks for the comments.
FloatingFatMan you are indeed right. I didn't know that all media players don't behave the same. So not all of them accept incoming messages, and not with the same protocol? Hum...
Does that mean that widgets for media player control are only compatible with a specific media player, also?
About the code itself, do you guys think can work?
I'm quite new here, is xda a place about writing code or should we discuss that in another place where people are more used to that?
Cheers
now that the Desire can be rooted...
on the Nexus one (probably other devices too) with the cyanogenmod roms, this feature is availale. just long press vol+ or vol- and you get next/prev track
can this be done with a moded rom on the desire also? what kind of changes need to be applied to the stock rom to add this function?

You can try Flashapp on the Market. I can post URL yet but you'll find it...]
Another excellent example that long press on a hardkey can be implemented without root is Quick Settings (great app btw): it can be brought up anytime, no matter what app you are running by longpressing the search key.
Did anyone ever get any further with this?

Apologies as I know it's a bit OT for this thread, but just wanted to make sure you were aware of the LED Desire Light app (http://www.appbrain.com/app/nostovic.android.desire.ledLight) - the latest version even has a nice wee widget to put the flash on/off, but the main app also offers SOS and turning text into Morse code!!
oxygen mod - based on cyanogen has:
* Skip tracks with long press volume up/down

update: it's a cyanogen feature, so all mods based on cyanogen have this
it works with screen locked.

"Transform into" and Auto shape options in S-Note suddenly gone after 5.1.1 update
Hi, just updated my device to the latest 5.1.1 Android version,
and for some peculiar reason, some features in the S-Note app are suddenly gone,
such as the "transform into" option that was extremely useful to me.
Done some googling and saw that the app used to have an extension pack option,
though nothing like that exists now in the app.
Any sort of help would be much appreciated.

This cannot be. I just updated my device to the latest android version 5.1.1 as you did yourself. I am able to have every feature i used to in the previous android version including the "transform into". When you are taking note on top of the S note app there's a "bar" with features such as pencil, eraser etc. Have you tried to extend this bar. If so; you'll see there's the tranform into button along with some other features. Try it out, let me know what happend.

Hi, the bar was already extended, and the only options i can recall are the basic ones, such as the pencil, eraser, the cloud thing (to select things with it), and that's about it. no transform into button, and also not where it was located before, after you select something with the lasso, the option is completely gone..
Would you please take a screenshot of the app and show the option?
I am 200% sure i've checked everything.
Unfortunately I already burned the Kitkat rom on my device so I can use these features again..
but if i am mistaken, and indeed missed it, I will update again.

Look at the screenshot and:
(1) Select the area you want to transform using the "cloud thing" you mention above; which's happens to be the lasso.
(2)You should be able to see a new bar like the one in the screenshot.
(3)Now, choose the second option (quadrangle thing) and it will ask you what tranform you want to operate, for instance math formula, text, shape, shape + text etc.
Hope I helped ya at all!!!:fingers-crossed:

Solution found
For anyone still interested I found a solution.
It seems that for some strange reason and for some lucky owners like me the Andorid 5.1.1 update can render the S Note not fully operational (transform into missing). So I used the Smart Tutor app from Samsung and the tech guy told me thar after checking everything he found that the only way to correct the issue was to return the tablet to its factory settings (i.e: reset the tablet) .
So there it is. You have to restore the tablet to its original 5.1.1 state. Before starting BE CAREFUL , you have to backup your data (via google account, via samsung account and even better via the samsung's Smart switch app that's you call). Otherwise the reset will wipe out/delete all personal data.
So after doing you backup watch this video to perform the reset: youtube.com/watch?v=NDp_9mfBS98. There are similar videos on youtube so again your call. The process is quick.
Once you reset the tablet and restore your data you will have to do some adjusments but you will not lose data (if previously backed up).
Everything went as suppossed and now I have the S Note app fully operational.

Incoming call notification very small

Anyone knows how can I change incoming call notification popup to something better/bigger like all other phones use ?
Can't add picture but it looks like on this video (sorry can't post links - (Google youtube video "MIUI 12 Incoming call"), but imagine that popup window is all black so you can barely distinguish it from background and recognize that 'buttons' to answer or reject call.
It makes especially big problem when I am driving and using navigation. It's may be danger to look closely on screen to read who is calling and trying to hit small buttons with your finger. This is the only phone which doesn't have dedicated popup window for incoming calls, just use regular like all other notifications. Even Pixel phone, which use same Google Dialer, has normal one with two big green/red buttons.

Question Google Screen Call For OP9/9Pro

Hey there guys!
I just wanted to post this in case anybody out there wants to have Google Screen Call feature on their stock phone app.
It's pretty easy to be honest
Since the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have the google phone apk built in, I had to look at a bunch of info to see how it could work but figured out that it's a lot easier than I thought.
Requirements needed:
-Rooted One Plus 9/ 9Pro
-Termux installed (Play Store)
- Busy Box module installed
-Magisk Hide Props module installed
-PrefEdit installed (Play Store)
1st Step:
Open Termux
Type
su

Grant root permission
Then Type

Click to collapse
If you have enable Device Simulation then skip 2nd step (If not then continue)
2nd Step:
Type in "1" ( to edit device fingerprint)
Type "f" (to pick a certified fingerprint)
After that you are going to choose Google and type the number it corresponds to ( Mine was 7)
It will show you a bunch of phones.
Just find the Pixel 4 XL and type the number it corresponds to ( mine was 23)
In reality I don't think it matters which phone you use just make sure it was a pixel phone that has screen call built in.
It's going to be give you some options of which OS version you want
I chose android 11 just to be sure
Type
2
Click to collapse
Then it will ask you if you want to reboot
Type in "y" to finish the 2nd Step
3rd step:
Open Termux again and redo 1st step
once your on the page it should say "device Fingerprint (active)"
Type
2

Click to collapse
The next page will show you a bunch of options that you can enable.
The ones you need to enable are-
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10
Click to collapse
(DON'T enable "8") I accidentally enabled it and screen call didn't work
once it says it's finished Type in "y"
then it will reboot
4th Step:
Once your phone has booted up
you need to go to settings then apps and clear phone data and cache
then find Google Play services and clear data and cache
After that open the phone app and go to settings to see if screen call feature is there
If it isn't showing up then you'll need to use PrefEdit
Close the phone app (if you haven't already)
Open PrefEdit and find Phone
It should show you like 5 files
Choose dialer
Once there tap on "dialer_phenotype_flags.xml"
then search for "speak"
Find this code line
G_speak_easy_bypass_locale_check
Click to collapse
tap on it and change it from false to true
then tap the save button
Now you're finished!!
Things to note once you go back to the phone app you'll need to be on Wifi to enable the feature.
If you have any questions just let me know and I'll help you out as best I can !
I will post ScreenShots of what to do if you need to see how yours should look like.
Outstanding guide ty!
Have this option already without any mods.
Very nice guide! Man, I'm super conflicted. I'd love to have the screen call feature, but I'm already using the OP dialer for call recording. No way to have the best of both worlds I guess.

Hey that's a really good guide. And a good way to get that feature. But can u not still go back and just change the flags??? And make it work with out changing the fingerprint?

I don't know. I have the EU Version and I am from Germany. This feature may already be officially available here in Germany. I have no other explanation for this.

I'm translating so I could be wrong but pretty sure that's "Caller-ID and Spam" which is the option you get when you don't have Call Screening. So you don't actually have Call Screening I believe.

I tried an older method that worked on my 7t and it's now working but it had to be done on an older google dialer ver 39.270.
It's not the fancy newer version but it works

Hey there guys!
I just wanted to post this in case anybody out there wants to have Google Screen Call feature on their stock phone app.
It's pretty easy to be honest
Since the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have the google phone apk built in, I had to look at a bunch of info to see how it could work but figured out that it's a lot easier than I thought.
Requirements needed:
-Rooted One Plus 9/ 9Pro
-Termux installed (Play Store)
- Busy Box module installed
-Magisk Hide Props module installed
-PrefEdit installed (Play Store)
1st Step:
Open Termux
Type
Grant root permission
Then Type
Type
Then it will ask you if you want to reboot
Type in "y" to finish the 2nd Step
3rd step:
Open Termux again and redo 1st step
once your on the page it should say "device Fingerprint (active)"
Type
The next page will show you a bunch of options that you can enable.
The ones you need to enable are-
(DON'T enable "8") I accidentally enabled it and screen call didn't work
once it says it's finished Type in "y"
then it will reboot
4th Step:
Once your phone has booted up
you need to go to settings then apps and clear phone data and cache
then find Google Play services and clear data and cache
After that open the phone app and go to settings to see if screen call feature is there
If it isn't showing up then you'll need to use PrefEdit
Close the phone app (if you haven't already)
Open PrefEdit and find Phone
It should show you like 5 files
Choose dialer
Once there tap on "dialer_phenotype_flags.xml"
then search for "speak"
Find this code line
tap on it and change it from false to true
then tap the save button

Going to add to this, if it doesn't show up in your dialer settings, clear the cache from both your Phone app and from Google Play Services, then open the Phone app again, and wait a few minutes if you still don't see it. Once you do, toggle it and see if your basic phone functions are still working. Believe it or not, some people's microphones wouldn't work with this trick in effect.
And now a rant of sorts.
The problem with this process is that in doing such, you are tricking not only the Google Phone application into thinking you're running actual Pixel hardware, but everything else, too. So this opens a whole can of worms when it comes to things like software/OOS updates, kernels, Magisk modules, etc.
For example, Elemental Kernel refused to install on my OP 7T because it was identifying itself as a "Pixel 4a." And even then, while I did get call screening to work, briefly, having to revert the changes to update things, then redo the changes, and hope they stick again.... wasn't worth it for me to do all that. I just wish we could officially get their call screening technology on EVERY Google device. Or at least ones that can use the Google Dialer framework.
So be prepared for a lot of troubleshooting and frustration. You may have to ask yourself if this is worth it.
Ty so much for this. I finally had time to do it. But the weirdest thing happened it never showed the screen option or hold for me option. But like 9 hours later I used my phone and there it was setting up.
Is it possible to enable call recording with this method as well?
according to the link, call recording should be integrated in the dialer starting vom version v63:
OnePlus exploring adding automatic call recording support in India
OnePlus devices don't support automatic call recording, but this may change in future in India, at least according to a staff member.

So I've tried this a numerous amount of times with zero luck on firmware 11.2.4.4. does anyone have any ideas as to why it's not working for me?

Could you explain? Which part is failing? What isn't working? The call screen part? The dialer?

Question (FIXED) POCO F3 Touchscreen doesn't respond well to precise small touches

(POCO F3 LATEST MIUI 14 STOCK)
I got this new phone yesterday, overall it's pretty good, but i noticed something weird, when playing games, specially shooters where you need presicion it doesn't have a good response to small movements,
it's like having high deadzones with a analog stick from a controller, it doesn't recognizes position changes of the finger immediately after the start of its movement.
i have to pass a couple milimeters of distance from the initial position to the next to register, i haven't seen much people talk about this but some people say that it is a phone issue, others say it's a miui or rom issue, i seriously want to root the phone to test other roms, but i don't want to lose the warranty right now so i want to make sure if i can do something i didn't do.
My poco x3 nfc didn't have that issue, but i sadly can't do comparisons because it's not longer working.
Video example from reddit, not my post but it is my exact problem.
Thanks for reading.
(EDIT) i fixed it! it was just to manually adjust some settings in game turbo, this was getting through my nerves, please watch this video if you have the same issues.
I have the same problem with that, but i tried a lot of roms and fixes for that nothing helped.
If you really need only in game's, i found a solution of small movement via gyroscope, maybe that could help you.
This sucks... Yeah i use gyroscope to do these small movements for now.
Do you have the same phone? I'm thinking of returning it, but i still don't know if this one i got is a bad unit or all poco f3 suffers from this. I'm still thinking what is the best thing to do.
I have same phone i don't think its unit problem . Root your phone (you can easily unroot later) and use increase touch magisk module by vito hermawan.

You have to adjust touch settings manually for every game and set it exactly like this, if you don't know where to find this watch the video i linked in the post

Pro mode for some reason sucks i don't know exactly why, it feels really bad but maxing these three options make it feel perfect.
Dont use Pro mode, just go into custom and to like the guy said on video.
I don't recommend you to change any of those touch settings.it becomes more choppy. Just disable swipe to screenshot feature.
