Help to get back to work my Fire v stick..without remote and reseted device - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have old Fire tv stick with OS 5.2.7 without remote control, I have lost it . I used the app with my smartphone in the same network connected, but, I decided to reset my fire stick and after that I get message the device searching for remote control, and can not continue forward ...how can that be bypassed or something else to do to get it to work condition again

Hello, i have the same issue , did you manage to get it to work ?

You can always use a USB mouse to navigate the screen to get you back on WiF / re-enable the remote.
Once on WiFi your may be able to use the remote function of the FireTV Android app

Thanks i tried but it does only move the mouse and there us is nowhere to go on the screen to reach the settings

How about a USB keyboard. Then you'll have to experiment with key combinations to exit the screen.
Sometimes works with Android
Esc = Go Back
Ctrl+Esc = Menu
Alt+Tab and Alt+Shift+Tab = Switch Tasks

if you reset it and dont have it connected to wifi only way is to use a physical remote control for the first stage after that you can use hdmi cec or android remote control

How do I know if my keyboard is working v. root/cwm

I just opened up my fire tv box. I have stopped updates on router, stock firmware is 51.1.0.1_user_510055620 ready to go for root, rooted, unlocked the bootloader and am ready to install cwm (my first time doing this on any device).
I have tried an IOGEAR GKM561R wireless keyboard which is reported working on http://kodi.wiki/view/Amazon_Fire_TV#USB_Keyboards, but no dice. My old backup Logitech K120 wired usb keyboard doesn't seem to work either - though it should its as basic of a keyboard as possible (I don't know if its getting power, the caps lock doesn't light up when I press it).
How do I know that they will work before I install cwm recovery? Is there a setting or something I am missing in the fire tv to enable keyboards?
No settings to enable, just plug and play. The keyboard has to be plugged in before you enter recovery.

So just plug in the keyboard and i should be able to use the arrow keys to scroll up and down through menu options on fire tv's home screen?
I wonder why my logitech k120 wired keyboard can't even do that. Do you guys think its worth just buying the $10 amazon basics keyboard and seeing if that works? Would my current (old) firmware be affecting this at all?

[Q] New FireTV Stick, Won't Start

I have an Amazon Fire TV stick. I plugged it into the HDMI port. I tried using the port on the TV and the port on the Set Top Box. On both of them I go to the remote, I press TV Input at the bottom of the remote, by repeatedly pressing TV Input I am able to get to HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. But I'm unable to select either HDMI port. I tried pushing OK/Enter and TV Input again. It doesn't work. How do I fix this?
I have VZ P265v2 RC
and Motorola QIP7232 set top box
The power is fine.
When I have the TV monitor plugged into the SetTopBox, On the screen I see "Verizon press menu to watch FIOS TV ..."
I press "TV Input" on the remote and I see Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component
By repeatedly pressing "TV Input" I navigate to the option I want (Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component)
If I just stay at HDMI1 or HDMI2 it doesn't seem to select it, and the FireTV stick doesn't start. I have the stick plugged into the USB so the power should be fine. Is there a way for me to confirm that. There is no little LED or anything. I played with the FireTV remote, but got no response.
This also happens if I press Menu to go to FIOS TV and then press TV Input.
Then I unplugged the set top box from the TV (so it's a "dumb" monitor). Then I followed the instructions below. Still no success. I have a "no signal" message on the tv screen.
Instructions which didn't help, yet
1. Remove Fire TV Stick from TV HDMI Port, just make sure TV is off
2. Unplug power source from Fire TV
3. Wait 15 minutes
4. Turn on TV
5. Plug in power source to the Fire TV Stick then insert to prefer HDMI 1 or 2 or 3
6. Press any button on the Fire TV remote, wait 30 sec on each input until you see the picture on the screen.
My post on the Verizon forum http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-T...t-HDMI-Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick/m-p/776546#M54911
Use the Original TV Remote
I called Verizon, the tech told me to switch to HDMI1 using the remote that came with the TV (not the Verizon remote). That worked.
I have a firestick plugged into a 42 inch lg tele. The stick has always worked on hdmi socket 1. Went to use tonight and all of a sudden it's saying no signal on screen. Checked the power that's working, why is it saying no signal???

Maybe went to "sleep", did you press the round button on your firestick remote?
BTW if this doe not work unplug power cord and plug it back in.
Try the following with your Samsung TV: On the TV, go to Menu, System, and then General. Locate the tab called "Game Mode" and turn Game mode "ON". (Most games are connected thru HDMI and changing this setting apparently enables theses ports better access to the Fire TV Stick) After you have the stick connected and setup properly and have actually used it, you may actually be able to turn off the Game mode and have it work properly. Good Luck!!

Shield + Harmony Hub...

Anyone using the new Shield with a Harmony Hub? I have it all set up, the controller works great, I now have only one to replace 4. However, it works via bluetooth... so when you ask Echo to 'turn on the Android Box', she can't get the Shield to turn on. She can turn everything off, just not on... When I get home this evening, I will try to edit the activity so that the Android Box never turns off... it doesn't consume much energy, so shouldn't be a problem & it should be primed to come on with the voice command.
Funny thing is, that with one press of the button on the remote, all turns on perfectly... Anyone else who has it working, please let me know.
how did you set it up, scan for wifi or manually? I haven't gotten around to it yet but on the nvidia forums people have said it doesn't map the OK button properly. OK and select are apparently concurrently sent by the shield remote, but the Harmony only uses select. some apps use OK while others use select. some have mentioned setting it as the Nexus player instead.
as for your question, like I said I haven't set up my shield yet but with my fire TV I can tell Alexa to turn it on and all my components turn on properly. if the fire TV is asleep hitting any button on the Harmony (mapped to a fire TV command) will wake it
Is there difference between shield one and two?
I have a hub working fine with shield 1. It is just a stand alone hub...no remote was included and entire setup was done via the harmony phone app. It turns on/off perectly along with my TV and home theater receiver using either the app or with my Amazon echo: "Alexa, turn on shield"....lol, I love it!

Shield 1 has IR, Shield 2 doesn't.

Set it up by inputting the model number, after setup it asked me to pair via BT. My OK button is working well, as is the controller... I've done a load of setting up, kodi etc. & haven't had any issues with button maps. It still won't turn on by voice command, but that's not the end of the world.
I just got mine to work, I said "Alexa turn on shield" and both TV and shield came on.
So... my Shield 2017 got stuck in a loop of rebooting... it would turn on for a few seconds and then turn off again. Happened while I was watching youtube videos, once when watching stuff on Kodi and also when I had left it idle...
I tried disconnecting from the harmony in case that was the cause. Deleted some new apps I had installed... but eventually did a factory reset this morning before work. I'll check it again this evening for the same behaviour.
Anyone experienced similar?
Is anyone else having trouble with the select (OK) button working on the amazon video app? I can get into the app, but once I move over to select a show/movie, the OK button won't work.

yep, same here.
That was actually fixed a couple days ago. You will need to delete and re-add the shieldTV device inside Harmony to fix it.
Thanks I'll check it out.
I'm curious to know how you got the harmony hub to recognize the shield's Long press button functionality ?
IE: Long pressing the back button on the shield remote inside Kodi brings up the context menu.
[EDIT] -- PLEASE DISREGARD QUESTION ABOVE. Long pressing harmony remote Select/OK button replicates function.

set up fire tv stick without a remote

I have been using Fire TV Stick with remote on my android phone. I reset the stick to factory default as I felt it was running a bit slow. After the reset, it is asking me to press Home button on the remote. I have not used the actual remote in a long time as I always use the app to control. Now, it is not responding to remote even after I changed 3 different sets of new remote batteries. On the app, it can not find the Fire TV Stick.
Any ideas, please?
SOLVED:
needed to reset the remote by holding Menu (three lines)+ Back (the one to the left of home button) + left arrow (on navigation circle) for 10 seconds. Then disconnect the power from Fire TV stick for 30 seconds and then restart.

Bypass Fire tv stick gen 2 setup screen.

Hi,
How do I get past the fire tv setup screen (which says "press home button for 10seconds).
It's been a while since I had the stick and I have lost the remote control.
I wanted to clear all the clutter and apps ,so I formatted the stick...
Now it is not connected to wifi(to use my smartphone as a remote control like usual) and I don't have the remote.
Is there any other way to get past it?
TIA
