I would like to upgrade the SO of my LG-350N (K8) - LG K8 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Developme

Hello everyone,
I have a LG-350N (K8) and I use a mobile app to do my job. Every month I need to update this app, but this month I cannot update it because it is not compatible with my mobile anymore. So I need to buy a new mobile phone or upgrade the SO. The thing is that I checked some of the cheapest mobiles which are in selling that work with Android 11 (for example) and I realised that my mobile LG-350N (K8) has better characteristics. And I was thinking that technicaly it has to be possible for a LG-350N (K8) running a SO newer than the 6.0. But officialy there are not more updates beyond the 6.0, that is why I am here. It can be possible to upgrade my mobile LG-350N (K8) using a non official firmware? do you recommend me to try this? some of you knows where can I find these files? some of you knows which of them works best?
I like my mobile and it works perfect. It doesnt make any sense to buy a new one which probably is even worse just because there are not official updates provided by the manufacturer. And I couldn't believe that nobody thought about this. That is why I arrived to this forum.
I am looking forward to hearing from you guys,
Thanks a lot

that device was deprecated long ago, you really should buy a new one

thanks for your answer. It just need a better SO. Its characteristics are still OK. Nowadays, they are selling phones even worse, but they run a newer SO, just that. Maybe it exists some third party SO to stop this non-sense. My mobile works perfect

there is no much develepment for that device, so no much to do

HTC Desire first in line to get 2.2 FroYo upgrade!

Posted today on Engadget.com:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/21/htc-most-phones-launched-in-2010-will-get-android-2-2/
"most of its 2010 phone catalog will indeed be riding Android 2.2 before the year is through"
It will probably be released just in time for new years eve.
Look people...the best thing to do is just enjoy your phone now rather than killing yourself waiting on this because, frankly, with the wait I'm sure is ahead of us it's going to get real old real quick with the "...any news on when? Anyone have a leaked ROM? Any idea when it'll be ported from Nexus 1? Any idea when HTC will update Sense!?" questions every day for the next 6 months.

Hopefully it won't be that long.
On another not, is there any news on when froyo will be available for the Desire?
We should all be glad they actually announce that they are going to update the desire. I have the touch HD before this and at first they said maybe an update to 6.5 and then they said users don't need update, this was the top of the line phone at the time.
Android since last June have released 1.5, 1.6 2.0, 2.1 and now 2.2. So you can realise that android are releasing a updates every 2 or 3 months. So whats the point in trying to keep up. No manufacturer will ever be able to do this. It's unsustainable. 2.3 Gingerbread is due at the end of the year too. So we will probably get 2.2 a month before Gingerbread, then everyone will moan and complain and want that. Just enjoy your phone as it is now. Google will need to change their behaviour to avoid fragmentation of the OS. i.e. handsets running all different versions. They are working on adapting their updates so they can be delivered to any system via the market without having to be customized for SENSE UI or the equivalent. Lets hope that happens sometime.
I can understand people want to stay up-to-date but honestly, if people keep complaining about HTC taking to long to get Sense on the new Android version, why did they go for a HTC in the first place? Ofcourse, a new OS will always give nice new functionality but i'm actually quite happy the way it is now and don't really see an immediate need to upgrade.
Running r3 MCR with A2SD+ i think i have pretty much everything i need.
Bought my desire on 02 @ £285... about to start using it in the UK, but will be moving abroad in the next few months.
How will I be able to update my phone if I'm abroad ?
I'll still have an 02 sim that I could use.. but would that work ?
I don't want to root / flash it if I can help it !!
Thanks
They say before the end of the year but i don't believe it.
they promised an update for the HTC hero to android 2.1.
it was promised for march 2010 then april, and now its may and still no update
thats how it wil go with the other phones too.
I personally think 2.2 is quite important for the mass market, the main feature being apps on the SD card. Most of Joe public aren't going to root!
Recently I've converted some people from the iPhone and that seems to be the main gripe!
That's just my opinion....

2.2 is probably the most significant upgrade there's been to Android.
Two of the main reasons to root are Apps2SD and WiFi tethering, and both of these are now standard Android.
I especially like the way that you seem to be able to choose where you want to install an app (i.e. to phone memory or SD card) and can even subsequently transfer them.
Hopefully this means that you'll be able to install a set of core applications to your phone, and then have separate SD cards for different purposes, and Android takes it all in its stride allowing you to chop and change as required.
Regards.
Dave
Whats going to happen when app developers have the option to install the app to SD card instead with 2.2 and develop with that in mind but everyone except Nexus One owners won't be able to do it? (Ignore Rooting & A2SD)

They make the app 2.2 only on the market - you just won't see it on phones with earlier versions of the OS.
The Nexus One will get 2.2 first, that's a given, but I do expect updates to more recent phones to come quite quickly this time around.

So does the market show the highest compatible version with your version of the os? or does it just remove the app from the market completely?
was thinking of rooting my desire but undecided now, anyone have a clue when us Desire users will get froyo? (preferably uncooked)
I think the main point is, no one nows when the desire will get froyo officially, everyone can make guesses, but it could be june, it could be december.

As far as I'm aware, if you want to support multiple versions of Android with your app, you need to publish them individually with different names.
Of course, this only really matters if your app uses deprecated APIs, or features only available in newer versions of the OS.

Just found an Arc LT15i. Should I keep it?

Edit: Bumping this to ask again! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55441666&postcount=5
TLDR:
1) Sell or keep? Buy something else with the money?
2) Is there a stable ROM, good for a new user, which updates over time, and unlocks SIM?
So I found an Xperia Arc, new in box from years ago, that I got for cheap but never needed. Now I'm wondering: should I sell it and keep the money?
Or should I flash something on it and give it to the old man (who could play with his first android phone)? Or maybe I should do both: Sell the new in box phone and buy something else with the money.
What say you, XDA?
PS: Does the stable ROM you suggest have the ability to update itself, so the novice owner I give it to can keep it up to date? Will the ROM unlock the carrier SIM lock?
Personally, I would recommend getting something newer and better. Single-core phones and 512 MB RAM are really outdated. Development is active, however ROMs based on Jelly Bean and beyond have some non-functioning features and may be unstable at certain moments.
SIM lock can not be removed with the change of ROM. Depending on the manufacturing date, it can be done via paid method (produced before 12W11) or not at all (past 12W11).
1. You should keep it as Xperia Arc isn't worth much at all.
2. You can't flash kernels and such if you don't remove the simlock first. I suggest you to buy a simunlock + bootloader unlock at wotanserver.
Sent from my Xperia C using Tapatalk
I won't recommend you to keep it either. It's a 2011 phone and if you sell it you could get something better with greater support. Even ARC is having great ROMs but they won't function that good on a half a gb RAM phone + Since sony ericsson broke a long time ago and you have a simlock therefore you won't even get a good official suport. So your best bet would be to sell it and buy something with greater support
Cheers,
AJ

I've dug this out again to give to the parents. So let's try again!
It has android 2.3 right now. Should I stay on that, or update it? I just installed "PC Companion" but came here to check with you guys before I ran it. I could also do a custom rom if you think that makes more sense. Thanks!
sell it and keep the money fot you -_-
its old now and you cant use a lot of applications on it cause it has low ram

Who knows? We don't even know if our devices will get an official 4.4.4 let alone 5.0.
Samsung won't ever give you confirmation of something like an upcoming update as usually their support desks seem to know so little that you may as well ask the man in the moon.
CM12 will bring AOSP Lollipop, but it's still work in progress

I wouldn't give up hope just yet (Lollipop hasn't been out for long), but neither would I be holding my breath for an update either.....
Samsung has to integrate TouchWiz and do a lot of quality testing , if they released an unstable or unsecured release of Lollipop it would cause more problems and customers as they have a reputation to keep, if you look at Samsungs line of products maybe only one or two products actually have Lollipop, as they are probably slowly testing feedback and bugreports, if they just recklessly just throw an update to every-device it would cause havoc
If I had to guess I would say sometime next year (probably within the first 3-4 months) this tablet will get a update.

This is what they should be doing, but if you look at this years 4.3 Jellybean release for Galaxy S3 they appeared to have done none of it. Also, just read this morning that the Note 4 will skip straight to 5.0.1 - so they're probably not going to waste much time porting many more snapdragon devices to 5.0, which could mean an even longer delay.
Please excuse my cynicism, I've been a Samsung customer for too long....

I'm guessing May or June of 2015 for Android 5.x and that will be the last update. I really hope they get Lollipop on the Note 10.1 2014, which is more important to me than my tab pro 8.4.

by using your logic, the galaxy s5 hasnt got 5.0, because it hasnt got 4.4.4 too

Say what?
Where did i say that one was dependent on getting the other?
By my logic Samsung haven't confirmed one or the other - not the next incremental revision, let alone the next version.
From past experience they are unlikely to respond fully to enquiries about what updates are due and remain very non commital at the best of times.
pretty straight forward to understand......
Lollipop 5.0.2. just started rolling out to the Tab S series:

Hopefully it's not that big a leap to get out the Tab Pro series as well. I don't think the differences were anything radical....

Samsung Lollipop update uncertainties
I was about to buy a Galaxy Tab Pro (3 actually) but this whole Lollipop update thing has given me cold feet. I'm going to stick with iPads. I just don't like the feeling they're withholding OS updates in order to drive new (Galaxy Tab S2) hardware sales. I always felt that was happening with Windows and PC hardware vendors and I ended up buying a Mac because of it (and never looked back).
Good luck guys and may all your Lollipops be as fruity as an Apple.

I work for a Google school and I think that's just about the biggest vote of platform confidence anyone can give. We do need at least one new Android tablet to test Appinventor Apps and we will buy. However, KitKat has been a frustration. Not being able to capture direct to MicroSD for example is unforgivable in the modern OS era. Lollipop promises to fix a great many KitKat issues and I think the HARDWARE partners like Samsung have a responsibility to get the customer base past KitKat ASAP.
I do not know what you mean when you say: "Apple holds update releases". But if you are suggesting that Apple only applies software updates to ONE generation of hardware you are totally wrong. I have an iPad 2 which has now had 5 different iOS iterations from iOS4 to iOS8 and is now possibly 3x better than the already excellent device I originally purchased. I've never had to even wait extra time because it's an older device. I want this for Android as well! and I reserve the right to put as much pressure as I can to make the hardware vendors give it to us. Let's not forget the damage platform fragmentation does to the Android developer community. It's in the best long-term interests of all hardware partners to keep as many of us as possible on the newest version of Android but they are not walking the walk. We need to encourage them.
My intentions are good, peace out.

Well, the youngest that MacBook could possibly be is October 2008! Unfortunately it's a 32bit machine which is just a different technology generation. It is a bit of bad luck though. I have a MacBook Pro from Mid 2007 that's running the very latest Yosemite OS just fine. It's pretty amazing when an 8 year old computer just keeps getting better and better for free. AND THAT'S EXACTLY THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. Screenshots of the system profile can be posted if you have doubts.
I don't know why people are trying to argue this, it's a simple fact that Apple are just better in updates than Samsung will ever be. The main reason for it is that it's easy for Apple to support since they make their own hardware and software that doesn't run on thousands of devices like Android. Samsung should still try to do a better job at updating. I don't like how they didn't even say whether the Tab Pros will get Lollipop or not, even though they were released only a few months before the Tab Ss (which did get Lollipop) and are just as powerful (they use the same chips).
Regardless I myself am gonna flash CM12 on my Pro 8.4 because I don't know if Samsung ever intend on giving us the update we deserve and regardless I am tired of TouchWiz.
Well one thing Android will have that Apple never will, is Android IS OPEN SOURCE and also Samsung is pretty good in releasing the source code for its products and kernels, meaning even if they don't release an update for a specific device it can still be supported by 3rd party firmwares or if you want to compile it yourself. - let's see someone do that with Apple.
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception.do
You don't think Apple has IOS 8 or 9 in the works? if it was Open Source like Android then Apple users would be doing the same thing begging for the update, but since Apple is closed source you don't hear about it until they tell you.
2 Cents
Also I still think the Tab Pro series will still get an update , I think Samsung owes at least one major version update being it was released at nearly the same time as the Tab S - I am suspecting it will be next in line for the lollipop update - considering its the Pro series line it might need more security and testing then the S series does.
lollipop update for tab pro.

3rd party apps not being able to write to the SD card is a deliberate security decision. However, it is easily overridden by an app from the Play Store. Search for "sdfix". BTW, it is also needed in lollipop so waiting for 5.1.1 won't help.

[Q] What Android for HTC TP2?

Hi, I dare to ask this question since the threads I can find on this dates back to 2013
So I like to try android on my HTC Touch Pro 2 Rhodium 100 phone with English WM 6.5 (Hard SPL'ed unlocked), but what I rather would like is that the phone ran only android. And a newer version than the ones presented in the 2013 threads, it seems the last one there would be 2.3.7.
Is that possible and do you have some suggestions?
With kind regards

Possible yes, done nope.
What I meant by that is that the latest fully (as much as it can be) working android version for this device is 2.3.7 and the most stable ROM being CM7.
Hardware wise the phone should probably be quite able to run android 4.0 and there is a ROM built but most things are not working so you would need to either learn how to build an android ROM/kernel and fix missing things (which would be a lot of hard work) or find a developer that is willing to do it for you, which would probably be impossible so I'd say just run CM7 or you could sell your device and buy some other ultra cheap device that has a newer android version.

Late reply but read this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049567

Also dude this phone is really old it obviously would be impossible to run any version of android newer than 4.0 on such low specs and no one made a version of 4.0 that has enough working to be usable as a phone or under any other usage case.

Can I change ONEPLUS7T T-mobile ROM to Oxygen STOCK ROM

Ive been using Oneplus5t that I bought from Oneplus March 2018. I love the phone and brand so I recently got the latest one plus phone from T-mobile and it arrived today. I hate the display and the apps. I'm not sure if its the T-mobile version that has the display or if i have to change it but I thought my 5t had the latest oxygen os so I thought one plus would be like that as well.
Wheres the link and instructions for this? I use to do this stuff in 2007-08ish in high school and been out the game for a long while. I know that I have to unlock a bootloader and thats it lol.
p.s.
Im trying to be a software developer, Im going to coding bootcamp from jan-may. I assume a lot of mobile app developers come on here? Its funny cause when I was in hs I never knew what this forum "developers" meant and that software is related to that lolol. Anyways how does mobile app development compare to web developent? I think web is kind of boring , however I think im going to try to get in any field first for experience.
