Question Google sucks !! - Google Pixel 6 Pro

So coming from a Pixel 3xl and then the Pixel xl and then before that the Nexus 6 and then before that every moto phone all the way down to the og droid. Where does Google get off sending out a phone to the public that doesn't work. I've had this piece of junk now for 2 weeks and it is garbage. 1st thing right out of the gates the fingerprint scanner doesn't work but may maybe 1 in 5 trys. Why would they move it to the front. Who decided that was better. Cause it isn't. The fingerprint scanner sensors whatever they are on my previous two pixels worked fine once in awhile they didn't work they just worked this one just doesn't work. It's the most basic form of the phone it's the first thing you do when you turn the phone on. It's the first thing you do when you pick up the phone and to open it with your finger you would think that they would at the very least have that part right. Then 5G I don't know about where you are I live in Southern California, Ventura county which is just North of Los Angeles county. In every instance that I've used 5G to have 5G on my phone and I'm trying to do something on internet it is slower than 3G it's like we've taken two steps back. I have to wonder if it's like this for everybody I mean all the phones all the manufacturers I got a feeling this 5G wasn't ready yet and they just pushed it out anyway cuz they had to have the next good best thing but then work though it doesn't work. Why would Google push out a phone that just didn't work I thought the whole point of the pixel experience was that everything just worked. It didn't have to have the best specs they didn't have to have the greatest screen or the most memory. But they worked well without all those specs and screens. They worked and worked well cause they were well put together on proven hardware. Then Google brought in their software unmolested. Completely vanilla and the phone's working they worked better than the other phones that had all those high specs and lots of memories high refresh rate screens. The original Pixel XL and the Pixel 3XL they worked ? I'm starting to think that that was in spite of Google. Whoever ran their phone department put one past the bosses there and sent out some phones that just actually worked. My brand new Pro pixel 6 it doesn't work and I'm writing this on my pixel 3 xl you know why ? Cuz I'm done with it. After 2 weeks I put it in the drawer I'm done with it and it will stay there until there is some kind of major update they going to fix everything. I want nothing to do with that piece of junk. But here's the deal there's nothing else out there unless you want Samsung and I dont. I've had a plastic Samsung before I was not impressed I sent that back after about 2 weeks as well. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place what happened to the good old days of Motorola and HTC when the phone companies were competing against each other to actually put out good product and we'd have root for these phones before even they came out. Before they even hit the streets. What happened to the good old days when they had cheesecake..I had the bionic I don't know if you guys remember the whole story with the bionic but we had we had cheesecake for it for over a year before before they finally released what 4.0 or something like that. But I think they skipped ice cream and went straight to jelly bean ( os's ) because Verizon couldn't pull their heads out of their butt in and approve the final version of the os...but Motorola was writing a new one every day and since we had cheesecake and we would take it every single night we would have a new rom just about every morning. We were overclocking our phones.. they were cracked flashing ROMs. These phones were fun I miss those days of samurai and living chaos all those guys there's a different form once you guys probably don't even know about I probably shouldn't say the name of here but it was we had them we had a thread it was probably the busiest thread on all the internet in regards to phones and it was pretty much run by a guy named samurai and he had designed some tool ( House of bionic ? ) to help you root your phone and put these new ROMs in it. Anyways the thread went sideways after a while to say the least but drama was fun and it was over these phones we all lived for these phones now it is these phones are Just junk they don't even work anymore and no one cares no one cares they justice deal with it to do a work around where to work around barely work too I'm not going to do a workaround anything either. The fingerprint scanner should just work and it doesn't.. It's so frustrating. Why did Google even send this phone out to the wild...is ridiculous they should have had the fingerprint scanner running first thing. That should have been the first priority but it's not and then they send it out to the wild with a broken feature like that ? Just seems to me like they're cutting their own throat by doing that back in the day Google would have cared today they don't care. Just get it out there start selling it make money lie to the people. . It's a crying shame what this whole community has turned into and not I'm not speaking about us I'm speaking about the equipment they're forcing us to use. We choices do we have anymore we really don't whatever happens to that phone Google is going to make where you can buy your bits and pieces and put together yourself whatever happened to that that was a good idea. It was probably too good of an idea.. but doing that that way they probably would not make amy money. The bits of pieces we provide will probably be too good in the last forever .I'm going to rant again. I'm going to stop sorry guys. Just just how I feel about things now. I'm just so very very disappointed in this phone to say the very least very disappointed..

I've had my pixel 6 Pro since launch!! And yes I do agree with the finger print scanner. Had my share of disappoints with it but update after update it just get better... I'm on custom ROM my preference.. it's actually closer to stock with minimal tweaks added.. Also note I've had all the pixel including the nexus line and by far this is the best pixel I've used... And the 5 g problems none here I live in Canada Telus network.. everyone has their gripe!! Best thing just return it

TLDR

Bro... Samurai? You talking the Droidrzr forum that I WAS A PART OF? Dude...that was like 10 years ago...let it die...the thing is they were INNOVATIVE back then, they were creating new things that have never been tried before, and pumping out things that "could" work. We are now at the point where we just want a good screen, long lasting battery and a great camera. All of which the Pixel 6 Pro do NOT do
As the owner of the pixel 6 pro, from a LAUNCH DAY T-Mobile oneplus 6T, I am not going to lie. The 6T was faster after 3 years. I just couldn't stand the camera anymore. But my SERVICE on that phone was great. And the battery life I would squeeze 10+ hours SOT like I do basically every phone that I have anymore.
For overclocking, you realize we're pushing over 2GHZ right? Overclockimg back theb was taking an 800mhz chip and pushing it to 1Ghz. That was MONUMENTAL for such a small chip back then. But you need to google a few things before you rage over some abilities. The CPUS back then were 45+nm small!!. That's effing TINY compared to a human hair of 80,000nm! But we are at 5nm in THIS phone. That's 9 times smaller. There's only so much heat you can push through a chip, but we're also running wayyyy more complex screens, GPU's, GPS, bluetooth, everything. It's all done on one tiny chip. So there's going to be some give and take.
As for the fingerprint scanner, you gotta put the same finger in the phone at least twice and move it around, slight movements alllll around the finger and you will have a perfect scanner. Mine only fails if it is laying on the table and I try to unlock it without picking it up. But in hand? Every. Time. It works. Also? Wash your hands.
And for 5G? Fam...I get wicked stupid fast speed...the problem is if you are in an area that is congested...which it totally sounds like you are, your speeds are going to be horrific. Terrible radio aside, this is just the gamble you're in and you're losing. I recommend just switching it to 4G anyways since battery life increases by a literal hour or two just by that move andddd 4G travels further.
And did you mean "Cupcake"? Wth is cheesecake? I have been with android since Froyo, and don't remember cheesecake I could be wrong.
But my thing is reality vs. expectations piss even ME off at times, and usually it's like,"Okay...my bad...I figured for $1200 this phone would be great."
My biggest disappointment? The 50MP sensor. It's just 12mp. Just like everyyyyy other pixel. My 3a XL takes better pictures than the 6 pro. Fight me. It does. But I gave it to my mom. Are the 6 pro pictures bad? Not really. But it's not as capable as they touted it to be. And considering MY PHONE overheats anytime I try to use it really blows. But because my phone decided to crack itself in the heat one day google wants me to pay for the screen to fix their hardware BS which I refuse for the 4th time.
And Samsungs are not plastic anymore my dude...you need to get in your time machine...my girlfriend's S21 Ultra is wayyyyyy more premium feeling compared to my 6 Pro hand in hand. A better phone all around. It is faster, charges faster, takes better pictures, wayyy better video, last longer SOT, doesn't EVER get hot, charges STUPID. QUICK. He phone was at 20% and she has it capped st 85 for longevity but we started using the "fast charge" with my Easeus 100 watt cables and charger? Bro...her phone charges in 20 minutes. If that. We were BLOWN. AWAY. and it DOES NOT GET HOT. So I recommend trying then again and not letting past experiences from 7+ years ago fool you...
But yes, you're correct in some ways, they went backwards with "quality of feel" but you did get what you paid for...a phone that is overpowered with a slightly underpowered chip. But without proper thermal handover, an "overclock" would just throttle and ruin the experience more...
Sorry fam.

Oh yeah, the old Bionic days...that phone was a little tank! And then you get a forum like droidrzr where the devs and owners were all easily accessible and incredibly helpful and yeah we had a lot of fun there. The landscape has changed a lot since then (like Gytole said), and imho I think the rom scene took the worst hit when Google shut down G+. G+ was the one stop shop for roms and their devs, and when they shut G+ down everyone just kind of scattered like ants on a destroyed anthill although most of them came here. But yeah, although I am disappointed with my P6P I won't rage about how things have gotten worse because, hey, at least Google hasn't gone the Apple route and completely locked down their phones and ecosystem (yet lol) and they still do offer AOSP and we still have awesome devs around who are willing to use their time to give us our custom rom fix.

Thread cleaned!
Greetings to all. Just dropped in for a little cleanup. Please do not forget about XDA Rules regarding member conduct. Whether Google stinks or not is irrelevant, how you treat each other on the other hand, definitely is! So let's keep things polite and civil shall we.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My fingerprint scanner is about 98% accurate these days, it is very rare for it not to unlock my Pixel 6 Pro on the first attempt. that said i'd still prefer a capacitive on in the rear.

Funny you say that. It takes 1-5 times for the Fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone, but put it in you cargo pants pocket and it will open half your apps, turn Bluetooth off, DND on, and call 3 different people on your contacts list

5G is probably the carrier. You said VZW?? I had VZW, but the 5G was crap as well as the insane billing. I have T-Mobile and my 5G is fast but yeah, the radios in the P6 have been criticized from Day 1

For me, it was SDX-Developers and guys like Joey Krim who were the masterminds of early Android development, when everything was open source and amateur development was encouraged.

Did you notice the cool thing I did to your post?? They're called line breaks, It makes it easier to read without your eyes wanting to start bleeding

Man, I can't read that poop. Ever heard of paragraphs?
Want your phone to work well? Ditch the factory OS builds and install graphene.
Set it to enable fingerprint security, but NOT fingerprint UNLOCK.
You should never use biometric unlock because it isn't knowledge based and therefore not protected by your right aginst self incrimination.

Holy wall of text Batman!

Fingerprint sensor was slow on mine, but the first update I got in April, corrected that.

I totally agreed with your answer. My Problem is Solved
Have a nice day to all

Bro...

Cheesecake was a tool they used to go after the Motorola servers to pull down the latest ROM every night. Motorola was rewriting the ROM for Verizon every single day and they used cheesecake to pull those rewritten ROMs off of the Motorola servers that were used to send it out to the wild on thier test phones. Something like that. That's how we had it. If you were part of it you would have remembered that. It ended on Droid razr.com. It all
started on the droidforms.net and it went to Razrforums afterwards after we got kicked off Droid forums. I was talking about the overclocking only because it was something we were doing then I'm not saying we need to do it now. My whole point about bringing up those times was because it was so much fun. Everyday was something new and the drama and then The politics of it. We had daily reports from livingchaos who had like an insider inside Motorola of it was just it was all fun. I don't know how much a part of it you were, but I was right in the middle of it. I was one of reasons it all got switched from one form to the next. I had a fight with a guy named foxcat He was a moderator on Droid forms. He said something to me. Samurai thought he said it to him and it all blew up. The next day, the whole thing that moved to Droid razr forms. Anyhow, sorry if I perturbed anybody with my rant. My my ill written rant next time I just won't..

I made it 4 months between January and May before I got fed up and gave my phone away. I went back to my pixel 3 xl. Just like you and I'm currectly in the market for a non-pixel phone. They have completely ruined the brand for me.
My previous phone was the nexus 6 and I still have it. I turned it on a week ago and it is so buttery smooth compared to even my pixel 3 with whatever ROM I put on it. If it wasn't for the old battery and camera I would love to switch back. It has Android 11 on it thanks to the modding community. It might support later versions but I haven't tinkered with it much lately. I'm getting off track.
I say I'm going to leave the brand but it is tough. It's all the small things that you get from Google that I'm afraid I'm going to miss. The notification of what song is playing, call screening, and call hold are all features I use regularly.
I've ordered a new phone and I'm going to test the waters. See what it is like outside of the Google ecosystem. I'm afraid but what choice has Google given me. I either try an alternatives or get stuck with an aging phone.

Android 12 works well on the Nexus 6, but anything close to that recent is pretty slow on it. Battery is not hard to swap on it since unlike newer phones where you have to probably destroy the display to open up, you can just peel the back cover off of it.

Hey I had the Nexus 6 too and loved that phone. It's been downhill since. Goodluck on your venture. I hope you find a phone that suits your needs. If you do come back here and tell us about it. I'm nearly desperate at this point....goodluck !!!

When I had my Nexus 6, (Sitting in the drawer next to me), the last phone I could easily root and modify, a co-worker seeing it told me my phone was like a Muscle Car, and she was right. It was.

Questions

I currently have the regular Epic 4G (w/ keyboard). I'm trying to decide if I want to get this phone or wait a little longer. I'm not sure how many people switched from the Epic but there were quite a few bugs. I'm concerned that it carried over to the Epic 4G touch.
I started off with the moment and some of the problems carried over to the Epic. And even after developers on here got ahold of it, they still weren't able to solve some of the issues.
Here is a list of the issues I am concerned with:
1) Switching from wireless back to 3G. On the epic, after switching to wireless and then back, I can't turn wireless back on. It just errors out and I need to reboot my phone to be able to connect to wireless. Does the Epic Touch do that?
2) Time without signal. This issue eventually got solved but it took a custom kernel and some tweaks. This was also an issue with the Samsung Moment. Is this an issue with stock?
3) GPS. Seems like most samsung phones have problems with GPS. I use it alot when I travel and I need something reliable. Does it lock reliably? And I'm not just talking the first time. I'm talking all the time. Maybe it's too soon to tell with this. This was also an issue with the Moment.
I'm kind of weary of getting another samsung. Seeing how long they take with updates and their issues that keep carrying over from phone to phone.
If anyone has any input on the issues above, please comment. At this point in time, I'm going to wait it and see what kind of problems arise. Hopefully by that point, there will be some concrete news about the Nexus Prime.
TIA!
After using since 10:00 am Friday morning I have none of those problems. I had a problem with swype not spacing words but after using for a while it has corrected itself(must be a learning program). I say go for it this devise is awesome straight out of the box.
My last long term phone was the Moment, so I completely understand where you are coming from. I was eligible for upgrade a couple months ago and have since left the moment to go through the 3d, the MoPho and now the E4gT. I had the 3d for about two weeks and loved it, except for the call quality issues so it had to go. Then got the MoPho and I absolutely LOVED it and still do.
The E4gT is awesome, don't get me wrong. The screen size and screen period has the MoPho beat, but not by a whole lot. Im not a big gamer so it isnt that big of a deal. The GPS on both seem to work very well and the call quality is excellent with both. Still sort of early to tell a clear winner there, for me anyways.
I found a case at the Sprint store that has a kickstand but its not near as cool as the MoPho's but it makes a big difference to have that. Plust, the case makes the E4gT easier to hold, because due to its size (4.52inches PLUS how thin it is) it can be awkward to hold at times, but I'm getting past all that now.
Music speaker quality the MoPho does have it beat there. The Sammy's is good, but not as good.
As far as reception, MoPho wins there too. Not even a competition. There is supposedly a fix for this, but again Samsung, why am I doing YOUR work? So that does leave a bad taste in my mouth with that one.
All in all I'm giving it the old college try. I really liked my MoPho and I do miss it, but seemingly less every day. I know the E4gT dominates all benchmarks and graphical rendering, but all I want my phone to do is work, and work well - so far, the E4gT is doing just that and more.
Moving from the Moment, any and all are a SIGNIFICANT step up but still, I want to be happy with this purchase and have no worries about the future. I'm worried about future support from Sammy though. Moto has already updated the MoPho twice since release, we will see how Sammy supports this beast.
If on the fence, try them all out. Remember, WE are the consumers and we have a 30 or 45 day return policy in place for a reason. Do the needful.

Thanks for you thorough response and I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. Since Sprint nixed their premier program, I'm no longer eligible to get a yearly upgrade @ $150. So that means I'll need to pick my phones more wisely since I won't be upgrading every year.
Sprint also changed the return policy to 14 days now so we no longer have 30. They keep nickel and diming us and we still get the same ****ty service and all the carriers cap their data at 2gb. Doesn't fly with me since I average 4-5 gigs a month. So I guess I'm stuck choosing the lesser of two evils, which for now, is Sprint.
I'm at the point where I just want my phone to work without having to flash/tweaking the hell out of it. I know some will say to just get the Iphone but I hate it with a passion and will never own one.
Sammy's support flat out sucks so that's one of the reasons why I am hesitant. They just have a few things that they seemingly refuse to fix even though it's been present in the last 2 phones with keyboards. I'm about fed up with the KB models as well since none of them have worked correctly. Before the moment I had the HTC Touch Pro and I went through 3 of those because of the KB issues. I won't ever buy HTC again.
So maybe the best of both worlds is to just wait it out and see if sprint gets the Nexus Prime. Quicker updates with superior hardware.
Thanks again for your review.

I don't know where you're getting a 14 day return period. Maybe that's at Sprint stores, idk, but at bestbuy I have 45 days due to sprint premier status, and radioshack was 30 days for non-cosmetic issues or however they term it, it basically meant 30 days in my mind.
And if I were you, try the MoPho. Sounds like you are going to be happy with that. If not, try the Sammy. If at the end of either of those you are still dissatisfied, take it back, get money back and wait it out.

ICS 4.0 Set for Q2 2012? Motherfu-

Well, it's going to be a lengthy wait till we get the official release of ICS.

Now that I've experienced this gorgeous 720 display, I can't go back to any lower, but it seems to me with the way things are going, I wont hesitate ditch LG for any other brand once such resolution is available...
It's a shame, LG, you could've been great...
honest question-
why is this a bad thing? i mean, my phone works fantastically.
sure, i, like you, like to be a first adopter and enjoy leading-edge tech, but what's in ics that's such a leapfrog advancement above and beyond gb 2.3.5 that it's worth ditching a device that performs very very well?
again, honest question, i can't deny i've asked myself this very question. i just can't justify giving up this phone because it won't have the official ics for another 3-6 months-ish.
Well, for starters you and I have different level of acceptance. When I buy a gadget with $600 price tag on it I expect it to be working absolutely flawlessly, perfect, or at least not worse then 1 years old gadget. Nitro out of box might seem fast, at first, but it hiccups, screen and buttons are not very responsive (just tell me how many times you pressed back button and nothing happens, before you realize you have to press exactly at that arrow, which is nearly invisible until you press it (face palm) or when you press something on screen and it takes 1/2-1 sec before something happens? 1.5ghz dual core my ass, excuse my french), compass doesn't work, no notifications through headset (I've been using it successfully on 5 different phones). And if you start installing some basic apps, you'll see how quickly the screen become sluggish, in fact, my 1 year old HTC Inspire with single core 1ghz cpu has better screen response, smooth scroll, just like iphone and it's full with installed apps. Ok, it's could be the apps not optimized for such resolution, but wouldn't you expect hardware to compensate?
Said that I was hoping to see a quick update that hopefully would address all or most of these issues, but it doesn't looks like it's gonna happened anytime soon.
So, for the next half a year or more we stuck with what we got. Yes, yes, we all hope the developers will jump on and we'll see some roms going on, but it's not what I'm talking about, it's the whole official level of support, it's the "lets sell them this half-done product and maybe we'll throw them an update or two a year later" attitude. Other companies probably do the same and some even worse, but c'mon just look at LG Thril, these poor bastards have been expecting GB update back in September, now they have to wait another 6 month!
Of course I'm very disappointed about it.
Also when you use GPS navigation and car charging, this nitro will get very hot and it refuses to charge!
I also have Samsung skyrocket, the phone never get hot like this!
You won't need ICS if we can unlock the bootloader. Why is everybody fussin over ICS?? The custom ROMS would be way better than Stock Android ROMs of any version. Just to prove it to u, my Atrix running on CM7 could do about 85% of the things offered in ICS. When I looked at them showcasing the ICS, I kept telling myself, " I have that, and that, and that as well". Nothing is new, except the face recognition unlock and things intergrated from Honeycomb.
So, in my opinion, big deal about ICS. If it does take LG that long to release the update, then hopefully before the time comes, we can get better ROMs.
You are missing very important things about ICS - optimizations.
It's optimized for HD displays, hardware-accelerated 2D drawings (read as UI). Just this two are enough to be excited about...
@netnerd:
it does get very hot with heavy network usage (navigation uses both GPS and network alot, especially if you enabled any additional layers), however mine haven't gotten to the point of refusing charging, perhaps it's your car charger? If it's output only 1.0A, then it might be not enough, cause the wall adapter that comes with phone is 1.1A.
Also note, the "very hot" feel could be due to the metal plate around the camera which is much better heat conductive then plastic, so you'd feel more heat out of it then without it as on Skyrocket...

this in no way whatsoever describes how the nitro i own functions, i have yet to experience any of the issues you have.
also, i paid $150, not $600.
So, you never experienced any slows down or jittering when scroll apps list or text in other apps? It doesn't delay open any apps for you?
After hard reset everything seems to be smooth, very little jittering in apps scroll, but once some essencial apps get installed, the jittering gets more and more.
The buttons issue, is probably because of unusual layout, but the fact that we can't control lights on them and they almost invisible does make it harder to use.
The $600 is retail price, I payed half of that, but I'm not stuck in the contract. I only mentioned the price just to compare what they ask for and what they actually deliver for that price...

it seems to me that the phone gets snappier as the programs most used get used. sure, there have been slow downs, just now going into the market, all my app icons took a moment to pop on screen. i noticed that.
opera, gmail, all the apps i use pop up pretty dang quick, more often suprising me with their quickness v. slow. the scrolling too, i don't find troublesome. yes, over the past several weeks of getting the phone dialed-in like i like it there have been times that i've noticed this and that but now that i am getting it finalized, it is snappy snappy.
and i do notice that sometimes the launcher does not recognize my screen inputs, but the stock launcher noticed them quite well, but to me that just means the launcher is probably not perfected for such a fine screen.
re: the price. i see. even so, sure seems like a better price tag than the google phone. what's retail there, $800? and no deals, subsidized price is locked at ~$300 + i'd pay $20 more a month at verizon.
for me (i.e. not for everyone ) this phone *seems* to make sense. could be wrong but at the same time, we all know what it's like waiting for that super perfect phone.
I tried to stick with the nitro through January and couldn't do it. This news of pics coming in q2 justifies my decision to return it and wait for the galaxy note lte or galaxy nexus for at&t. Hopefully a few devs come along and release this phone from its shackles.

It's not even confirmed for the Nitro HD, instead LG said it's up to the carriers. It's only confirmed for the international variant, the LG Optimus LTE.

So it's even worse then we thought...carriers will only start thinking rather update or not their devices after LG releases the update...
That's the way it's always worked.

Once it's rooted n unlocked, i dont think it matters if u use the optimus LTE update, does it?
yay for us! LoLoL!!!
I think LG is thinking all they need to do is put out a phone with monster specs and that's it, they're done. If it were a few years ago, before people knew that smartphones had an OS let alone know what 'Android' was, then yeah you don't have to care too much about OS updates.
But this is today and the Nitro is a competitor to the Galaxy Nexus. You better believe that EVERY OS update that comes out, the Galaxy Nexus is going to be the first to get it...So any 'decent' competitor should up it's game and follow suit closely behind. And 6 months later ain't closely behind.
I'm starting to talk myself out of the Nitro. My true love and want was the Galaxy Note but I got tired of waiting for a US release and jumped on the Nitro instead. But the funky menu/search button, no indicator LED, bad compass, sometimes sluggish performance, etc...
Unfortunately for us there are no rules or regulations how manufactures should handle their products. That's why they more focus on creating new models rather then supporting already sold, maybe it's a good business, but this actually explains why so many people prefer overpriced Apple products...In fact after playing a bit with iPhone 4s on xmas, I'd be sold for it too if I wasn't interested in doing something myself to phone system as we can on android platform.
im sticking to this phone for now, no matter wat. I will make it work with wat it has, n im sure, in a couple of months or so, we will have much more things with this phone. I mean seriously, this phone is only 23 days old, and we make it seem like this has been out for months and has no hopes of improving. Give it a break and show some patience guys. We are even damn lucky to get a permanent root so easily. look at the rezound, who's been out longer than the Nitro; it still doesn't have a permanent root. And in 23 days, we have the support of a couple of devs trying to get us CWM and several great users working hard figuring out the innards of this phone. To give u an idea, Tenfar did not even come out with CWM for the Atrix until April, almost 2 months down the road.
So you know wat, I'm not giving up on them. They've all worked hard to help us have a better phone, and I am not leaving them and their hard work to vain. I know it's about money and being stuck with a phone for 2 years or so, but hey, that's the price we pay as early adopters to technology. Want something proven and guaranteed, wait a couple of months when everyone already has the phone.
That's my 2 cent on the current situation; about ICS, about Unlock bootloader, about this and that. Things will improve in weeks to come, as long as we stick together and help, instead of complaining on how the phone is lacking this or that.
p.s. always remember, the SG II has a much lower resolution with same CPU, thus performing under less stress. And the Galaxy Nexus has a pentile AMOLED screen, again also using less power thus stressing the CPU less. That's where this phone is getting hit with lag and battery issue.

Have I been taking crazy pills?

My contract is up in August and because sprint barely works where I now live, I will be jumping ship to verizon.
I have been planning on picking up the GSIII when I jump, but the last few days the Galaxy Nexus has been looking better and better.
I know that specs wise the GSIII blow the G'Nex out of the water but the dev community on the G'Nex looks pretty awesome and tehre are tons of people building 4.1 roms already.
Specs aren't everything and I know that *most* gnex owners are loving their phones but it's hard to pull the trigger on a phone that is already 8 months old.
Also, I would wait for the next Nexus phone but my girl's contract is up around the same time and we're gonna hop on a family plan. She has a awful Droid 2 and can't wait to get an iPhone. :-/
The only real downfall to the Nexus is no Gorilla Glass. It's only the scratch resistant so it you drop it it's most likely done for.
No GG would be a deal breaker IMO.
I would go with the GSIII, i was at the sprint store today and held the Galaxy Nexus(which I was sure I was switching to when I could) Next to the GSIII and the absolutely beautiful screen, the extraordinarily light weight, the melty buttery smoothness. The GNexus just couldn't compare. If you have to pick now I would go GSIII. IMO
well at the same time, if your going to verizon, there has been alot of news about verizon locking the sgsIII bootloader so no root. but that only matters if your wanting to root.

but then that doesnt mean it wont, or hasnt been rooted. just means might be a little harder to do than with other carriers.
It would appear there is already a guide for rooting it, i didnt read it, but just something to consider...
guide
no you're not crazy for jumping ship, per se. If the phone service does not work where you're at most of the time, then what are you paying for?
As for phone choices, if you root, I think that takes some heavy consideration. Also, since the SG3 just came out, the community is still building. The Nexus has had about four month start. With all the major carriers taking SG3, it'll come. It'll just have Verzion's quirks.
I would also look at the long term. Assuming you go with the low price you can get, you're looking at phone you'll have to two years. Thus, which phone will be able to handle what you want to do now, and what you think you'll want it do in say, eighteen months. Thus, also specs are not everything, in the long term, they could be important. Developers will design with faster hardware in mind in the future. See the Evo 4g development versus newer phones such as Evo 3D or LTE.
Also, how dare you like the girlfriend go apple. Show her the true power of the greenside, LOL.

Yea, the more I think about it the more I think that the GNex is the way to go. The GSIII has some great hardware specs and amazing software features but I know it's just a matter of time before I get bored with touchwiz and go AOSP.
Either way the phone will be rooted but I love the idea that I can almost instantly be on the cutting edge of android roms with the G'Nex. The hardware isn't a big deal. A nicer camera and screen would be great but then again, the camera and screen on my evo have been just fine for me for the last two years.
As for the girl, i tried...Not surprisingly, her crappy droid2 (purchased BEFORE we started dating...I would have never let her buy that ) started slowing to a crawl and getting AWFUL battery life so I backed it up, rooted (pain in the ass) and installed CM7 on it. She likes it but still wants an iPhone bc she's a nursing student and has all her medical dictionary's on her ipad and she can run them on an iphone at the hospital. Ah well, can't win them all
Just in case anyone is reading this...
Does anyone know if I can buy a used phone (thunderbolt or something like that), sign a new verizon contract and activate the phone and then get a discount on another phone down the line?
I'm having trouble pulling the trigger on the G'nex when I could wait a few months and potentially have my pick of a few different nexus devices.

Done with the Turbo 2

Well, it was a nice device, in concept. But, after 5 replacements for various defects, I'm done. I ordered the Samsung S7. Never owned a Samsung before, but I have to assume the support is better than the new Lenovo owned Motorola. I've been a loyal Moto customer since the OG Droid in 2010. Plus, these phones are too big. I'm not a huge guy, so a screen that is hard to hold, and fit in my pocket is a non starter. Hopefully, the battery is decent on the S7, and the phone reception is good. Otherwise, I can live without some of the great Moto software features, as nifty as they are. Software isn't much use when the screen is defective, or people can't hear me talking.
I must admit when I saw the title, I thought you were gonna leave because of the lack of MM update. Sorry to hear you've had so many problems with this phone, I hope the S7 brings you good luck.
You will hate how locked down the s7 is. Should of went 6p. I sold my turbo 2 for a 6p and love it. I had 2 turbo 2's never had an issues but the battery life on my 6p is about the same and I get USB type c unlocked and a fingerprint reader so this is more of what I wanted.

I had the S5 and I really miss it. I thought I would like the Turbo 2 but it hasn't lived up to any of the promises so far, except I haven't tested the toughness of the screen. My replacement Turbo 2 came in today and I'll get it setup tonight. If it fails me, I'll get the S7 Edge because of the larger battery than the regular S7.
I've only had this phone for 2 months and it's developed hardware problems. I never had a hardware problem with the S5, just some stupid lack of updates from Samsung AND Verizon. I was lured by Motorola's false advertising of 3 days of battery life. I can't get 1 day of battery life if I actually use the phone. If I leave it face down and don't touch it, I could probably get 3 days. Face up, the stupid motion sensor (that I haven't figured out how to turn off) wakes up the screen all the damn time. The battery lasts 1 day, less than a day or just over a day and a half in my experience over the last 2 months. A day and a half was with VERY minimal phone usage.
I wish you the best with the S7 and I hope it's far better than this POS.

Start moto app, tap right top corner, actions, first option on the list...
I don't believe Verizon ever said 3 days of battery. What I saw was up to 48 hours with mixed usage.
I average almost 20 hours and 5.5 OST.
Much better than the M8 I had before it.

Sadly we don't have girls (or they're really rare) here to confirm the size really matters
The 6P is a huge phone and ugly as sin. Great for updates, but if you aren't a front speaker aficionado (which I'm not) then it is just ugly and wasted space.

I've had my Verizon turbo 2 since about 2 weeks after release and have had 0 hardware problems and haven't replaced it once. You're either really clumsy or really unlucky. People don't know how to take care of their phone and I'm assuming you're one of those people, considering you've replaced it 5 times. As far as the battery life I'm a heavy user and push 24 hrs before I'm out of battery. Learn how to train it and uninstall stuff that eats up the battery. I see so many people leave like 100 different apps open in the task manager (the built in one of course) and it kills me. They wonder why their phone is so slow or why it's always dead so quick and their too ****ing lazy to click a button and kill tasks. Anyways I'm sure you don't have the ignorance of people like that otherwise you wouldn't be browsing and posting on XDA. The only reason I would see me moving on from this phone is for root and BL unlock. I love my Roms and kernels. When I was still in school I had a gs3 that I had a new ROM on every day I came to school lol. I miss that **** but I just don't wanna go back to Samsung's mediocre feeling phones, just not a trade-off I'm willing to make. But if that's what you want, all power to you man and gl.
Believe it or not, people have been unlucky and have had hardware issues (green line issues and power button issues to name a few), consider yourself lucky.

I can attest to this, my first turbo 2 had a green line the first time I turned the phone on 2 days after release, fortunately I hadn't walked out the door yet so they swapped it out immediately. as for the power button issue, surprisingly making a seal with your mouth and blowing hard seems to dislodge whatever dust might be getting stuck and fixes the issue (found this solution online, it has worked like a charm)
This is truly unbelievable, I paid off my DT2 600.00 that I got in October. Nothing wrong with it, excellent shape. I pre ordered the s7 edge and was going to trade it in and knock down the price a little on my new one. ISYN, they only offered me 36.53 for it! I thought was a mistake so I asked several times. Looks like I will keep this one as a backup.
They always say NOT to use task killers

just for the recordd, i think the hardware issues probably have more to do with how verizon handles. stores and ships devices cuz its nvr seemed to matter what kind of phone ive had ive always had 3-6 warranty exchanges, and we all know those dnt come brand new in the box, usually actually someone elses defect return. there arnt 10000 dt2 out there that are defective, there are 1000 and vzw has sent them to 10 people each :/
Unfortunately, the only way to have a brand new phone is to be first in line opening morning release day. And even then, that you don't receive a phone that has already been tested/used by a Verizon employee and repackaged. Fortunately, knock on wood, I have my original purchased opening morning.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your phone sir. I've had nothing but awesomeness with mine. I will admit I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of dev support for the DT2. I would love to learn how to Dev for this, but I'm way too busy with life. I left Samsung bc I got tired of the VERY SLOW AND LAGGING OS. I would've gone the Nexus route, but I've really been impressed with Lenovarola lately. I know some of you aren't but I'm having good luck.
Anyway best of luck to you on your Samsung!
Okay, had the T2 since 3 days after launch. The Green Line appeared about two months ago, got a replacement. The mic would not work unless on speakerphone. Got a replacement and now the phone all too often heats up, and I get instant battery drain. When this happens, I lose about 30% of the charge in 20 minutes... Plus, little tiny scratches on the phone screen. I have never had a screen saver on any phone, and never had a problem...

I HAVE to get this out....

This phone.......WOW, this phone......
Im on my FIFTH replacement....yes, you read that correctly, my 5th replacement. 4 regular verizon swaps and 1 insurance assurion $150 replacement from LITERALLY BENDING the phone in half over PURE frustration and breaking every single board in half THATS how pissed off I have gotten with this pure garbage JUNK excuse for a phone.
Ive owned galaxy series since the 3 came out, got tired of replacing screens so I decided, "Oh look at that shiny kiosk over there with a shatterproof phone for sale". What a mistake!. 13 days into this "upgrade" I decided wow, this phone performance wise is literally on par with a galaxy s3 or 4! I want my money back!!! Went to the store was told, "sorry sir were out of galaxy s7s so we cant steal 10% of your money on a garbage product to return it and give you a ACTUAL upgrade, come back tomorrow hopefully well have one in stock to swap". Came back next day, no sammys.....huh, well I just deal with it its not THAT bad of a phone.
The day I bought the phone on my way home I call the wife to brag about new phone......DROPPED 2 CALLS!!! HUH, okay......must be because its updating my contacts and apps, no biggie. Got over that, then Continuous garbage call quality from there out until I realized THEY PUT THE MIC ON THE BACK OF THE PHONE???!!!!!! REALLLY>>???!!!!!! Wow....no more shoulder calls...Ever! Well played motorola....well played.
Phone drops data like its going out of style during gaming sessions for no apparent reason...
Oh but it has TuRBO CHARGING you say??? AWESOME!!! Let me have an ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS mobile device while its "TURBO CHARGING" because unless the 5 phones Ive had are 5 of a kind then DURING turbo charging you have a phone thats almost too hot to even HOLD with your bare hands, BUT if you can manage the heat then what your left with is a phone with performance LITERALLY on par with early 2000's flip phones during the charge! Youve GOT to be kidding me?! I havent dealt with lag from a phone for 6 years....This phone LAGS on even phonecalls during charging...DATA or GAMES during a Turbo charge??? Forget about it. Unbelievable to say the least. How they were able to sell more than 3 of these pones is because people like me haven voiced a real opinion on it in a timely manner. Pure junk.
Never again Moto...NEVER.......EVER again. fool me once shame on you....fool me twice? .....Well you cat get fooled again...Pure junk.
So you joined xda just so you can ***** about a phone. Well played well played and yes I'm being sarcastic.
I think we've understood the sentiment here.
