Question connect to your own hotspot from the same device - Moto G30

Can I connect to my own hotspot from the same device? (I have root) Sorry my English

If the Moto G30 had two separate hardware WiFi modules, then yes. However, I don't know of any phone that has this capability.

[Q] USB Tethering Problems

Alright hoping someone can help me out here. I had a note 3 and s5 before and used them to usb tether on my work laptop. Company shut down wifi all together so wifi tethering is out of the question. So the laptop will install the samsung drivers and it allows me to usb tether. I have also tried with a droid maxx and it would tether as well. Well I got the G3 (verizon) and it will not allow the modem driver to install on the laptop so that I can use tethering. So does anyone know a way I can fix this? Such as change the way the g3 usb tethers? Make it act like a samsung phone or motorola? Installing the drivers is out of the question because you have to have administrative rights to do that
anyone?

USB Dongle Laptop Internet to G3

Hi, how can I use my laptop Usb dongle internet on my LG G3 phone? Wifi internet was easy to use.
Read about reverse tethering app, is this it? I can use my G3 internet on my laptop through G3 Hotspot wifi active, but want it the opposite way..
Thanks

Z1C stock - ad-hoc Wi-Fi

Hi there!
After spending quite some time trying to understand why my rooted 5.1.1 phone can't connect to my ELM327 Wi-Fi module, I realized it's because of the missing support for ad-hoc mode. I'm only able to see the ELM327 network with a third-party Wi-Fi app.
Most of the related threads on Google are more than 4 years old, so I was unable to find a working solution to my issue.
I tried the wpa_supplicant file supplied on androidtablethacks.com which seemed promising but Wi-Fi was not turning on at all anymore so I reverted.
How do I activate ad-hoc mode on my Xperia? I'm dumbfounded that a basic feature like that is not supported.
I'm willing to install another ROM if needed, if it's stable.
I really don't want to buy a bluetooth adapter, I hate bluetooth!
Could I manually add the ad-hoc network somewhere in my phone's configuration files? I know the name and channel of the network.
I don't need a full ad-hoc capability, I just need to connect to this specific network.
Cheers!

WiFi sharing

Hi folk, is there a way to have WiFi sharing on our beloved device?
Is it a SW limitation, or HW that need device to be rooted or is it just impossible with this HW?
It seems P3* has it!!
Thank you

Look under Wi-Fi preferences for "Wi-Fi Direct". Is it not there? I don't have my P2 handy or I would check myself...but it is there on the the P3. I've never used it before but I see other peers in my house available to connect.
I don't have WiFi at home (digital divide problem) so I need to use my P2XL as router and device both at same time. Eg. to use my device with Chromecast

You asked about "Wi-Fi sharing" which is a different technology from using your phone as a hotspot where it uses your phone's cellular data to create a Wi-Fi hotspot your other devices can use. Is this what you are trying to accomplish? If so "tethering" is definitely an option IF your carrier and/or plan allow it. On many carriers it is plan-by-plan. If your plan is pre-pay it may not be available. There are ways to bypass the carrier tether checks but it requires root. Not sure if you can stream to Chromecast via tethering because I don't own one. Maybe someone else who does can confirm.

Specifically Chromecast needs WiFi and because I don't have it so I'm trying to simulate it throw WiFi sharing.
Tethering doesn't work unfortunately. Tried several times.
Because P3 allows WiFi sharing I thought it was possible in P2 too (but honestly no idea if it's HW or SW).
Ps: my phone is rooted.

WiFi-Hotspot allows all your other devices to connect to the Internet by sharing your phone's mobile data; while WiFi-Sharing achieves that by sharing your phone's WiFi connection. Since you do not have Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi sharing is not an option for you, regardless of which Pixel you have. There are many tethering guides on how to modify your build.prop to bypass your carrier's tether checks. Which carrier are you on, and is it a pre-paid or post-paid plan? As your phone is rooted, you may also want to search XDA for enabling tethering depending on your specific carrier/plan. Best of luck! :good:

I do this exact same thing you are describing via tethering. I make my Pixel 2XL a hotspot, then connect chromecast to it. Then I can stream things from the same Pixel 2XL to the chromecast. The key is getting tethering to work.

Vodafone pre-paid v12xke
I'll looking for it, thank you. Anyway I don't have problem about Vodafone checks, instead I can't connect to my Chromecast ultra without WiFi. That's it

If you cannot enable and setup a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone you DO have Vodafone tethering checks. It is Vodafone blocking you from using the tether function! The tethering function on your phone will use the phone's Wi-Fi radio to create a Wi-Fi hotspot and then you will have Wi-Fi to share with your other devices. You can do simple edit of your build.prop to bypass the restriction. If you are rooted, you likely have Magisk installed and there should still be a working tethering module that will do the job for you.

Ok suppose I've created WiFi hotspot and I'm sharing my WiFi with Chromecast, so how can also connect my phone to Chromecast if my phone is busy simulating WiFi router with Chromecast?
Here the graphics:
1.
Chromecast --> router <-- phone
So Chromecast and my phone can communicate throw the same router, right?
Ok now I simulate router using tethering on my phone:
Chromecast --> phone
At this point my phone is busy being router for Chromecast!! I should use another WiFi in same my phone to connect it to Chromecast! Make sense?

Thanks for the "graphics". Suppose you did not read post #7 in your own thread, and suppose you haven't successfully created a Wi-Fi Hotspot yet? Best of luck. Out.

I think one thing you are misunderstanding is that if you use your phone as a "hotspot" -- essentially you are making your phone a modem & router -- then wifi is actually forcefully turned off; therefore using any data connection other than the device's own (connection) is impossible [like another router/modem or data line]. Anyone who has successfully ran the device as a hotspot can attest to this...
I mean, it kinda makes sense... If the device has to receive a wifi signal, process the data throughout the internet, and send the corresponding data through the same wifi signal, then it'd be too busy & impossible for it to also be connecting the same wifi signal to send and receive to another source. As technology is now, it'd be crazy for a smartphone to have and employ more than 1 wifi radio or multiple wifi radios...There's really simply no need for it (right now at least...).
Hope this clears a little up....

Thank you very much simplepinoi177!! Now I understand..?
So no chance to use Chromecast without WiFi.
I'll put on sell.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!!

No wifi tethering with AFWall

Hi All,
my moto g7 power is unlocked, has LOS18 (lineage-18.1-20210724-nightly-ocean) installed and is using AFWall+.

Tethering doesn't connect through WiFi when there's VPN (unless your system has an option to allow it).
You can, however, you can add yourself an IP address manually and connect. Not sure about whether you'll have Internet or not. But you'll be contacted.
The solution in my case was to simply allow connections for [-12] (Tethering) - DHCP+DNS-Services in AFWall+ and luckily nothing more like mentioned in other posts online.
I checked AFWall for some connection like that in the first place but nothing showed up, don't know why.
But in the end it did the trick.
Thanks for your answers anyway.
