General Hardcore tuning experience? ROG 6 vs ROG 5 - Asus ROG Phone 6 / 6 Pro

Hi,
Does anyone here have experience with hardcode tuning on the ROG 6?
On the ROG 5, I was able to mess with settings in hardcore tuning to make it just as fast (even faster than) the Gaming mode level 3 (which forces you to use the fan, which isn't great at cooling). SO I was trying to replicate this on the ROG 6, but the settings have changed (reduced significantly), and I cannot even achieve the same performance of the ROG 5 (both phones fan-less at this point).
Also noteworthy, on the ROG 5, I was able to tune it such that the max processing frequency (2.84 GHz) was always showing in the game genie panel, while playing my game... but on the ROG 6, i cannot figure out how to max it the same way using hardcore tuning... The game genie panel shows a blue bar instead (Which grows and shrinks with the frequency) rather than showing the current number...
Any comments? Is the only truly way to get better speed using the Aero Active Cooler 6? My goal is unlock the speed, then use external cooling, like I do with ROG 5..... right now my 5 is faster than my 6
Thanks

Hi.
Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question.
However, if you have both of these devices, will you help me? Which model has better speakers? I mean the volume and depth of the bass. I am interested in the effect with the use of an equalizer.
Thanks

All i can say is , Asus havent fully unlock the phone potential . But thats a good thing , during hardcore gaming section( genshin impact max setting) , rog phone 6 without fan barely reach 43°c, while my rog 3 could reach 50-52°c under minutes. and the fps ism ore stable . I think Asus wants to prevent rog 6 from becoming hard brick cus of overheating too early so they lock some of the feature in hardcore tuning .

[Q] Poor Optimization? Lollipop? Metal?

I have my G3 for 3 weeks now. Sold my iPhone 5S to get back to the Android scene. I installed GT Racing 2 but framerates aren't as smooth as it is on the 5S. The game's graphic settings is even configured at Optimal (not best graphics) and this phone should be handling it easily considering the chipset.
Is this how the G3 really performs?
EDIT: Rooted, flashed CloudyG3 2.3 and Gabriel kernel then overclocked GPU to 657MHz. Now I'm getting acceptable framerates when playing GT Racing 2. Definitely better than stock now. It's sad to think that we need to overclock our phone to get a better performance.

G3 has more then 4 times the amount of pixels on the screen then the iphone, furthermore most likely the phone is clocking back the CPU (if you're on stock rom) as the chipset is a hot head.

Overclocking and Gaming question

Hello,
I would like to ask about overclocking my device - Zenfone 2 ZE550ML 720p (1,8GHz/2GB RAM). Im playing games on my phone a lot when Im on the trips and later the newest games are started lagging like.. Order and Chaos 2, Dungeon Hunter 5 or Eternity Warriors 4 arent running flawlessly either.
I wanted to ask if I can overclock my CPU and GPU to higher values to get better performance since CPU model is Z3560 (1,8GHz) is almost the same as Z3580 with 2,3GHz and Z3570 got highest GPU frequency with 640Mhz - we got 544MHz or so?)
Samsung Note 5 or Iphone 6 can run these games without any issue why our device cant? :|
Also dungeon hunter 5 looks really awful like on my old Mali 450 device and my friend with S6 got a lot better graphics .. (resolution looks like 480p on mine - textures are really bad)..
Is there any way how to overclock CPU/GPU or its locked by Intel? Should I try custom ROM to get better performance in games or it would make it even worse?
Zenfone 2 got highest GFX Bench values for GPU its over S6/Note5/Iphone6/OneplusOne.. but games are running better on these devices..
Thank you for your help.. my device isnt roother either flashed to another rom Im running on stock but I have no problem rooting my device as long as I can play games without lag.
Intel needs optimisation i think...
Anyone please answer ?
Thanks
The iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6 have better GPUs. The ZenFone 2 uses the same GPU as the iPhone 5S, and it's slightly better than the Adreno 330 used in the Galaxy S5 and the LG G3.
For GFXBench, makes sure you're comparing the "Offscreen" scores.
Well thank you for the answer but I didnt ask for this.. I know what GPU CPU RAM ROM etc.. this phone got. I wouldnt buy it if I didnt do little research. Why I should check Offscreen values when I got 720p display ? Its just nonsense or games are rendered for 1080px in default? Cannot be true..
Onscreen value is the one that we should compare. And there are only 2 phones that can beat Zenfone 2 ZE550ML... so why games are lagging.. while it doesnt on other phones.
Its not overclockable until today. Kernel can set higher clockspeed but the SOC (GPU&CPU) will not run faster than spec clock.
Laggy games
what there is experience if we play the game, then zenfone 2 will feel the heat and the games that we play becomes laggy? does anyone have a solution?
Thank you.
Check Project T. They have an under/overclocked kernel. It goes up to 2ghz. It's not much, but makes a difference. Only read about it, so I don't know if they overclocked the gpu as well.

You were comparing to the Note 5 and iPhone 6, both phones have much more powerful GPUs.
And the offscreen scores just give you a uniform comparison for different GPUs.
But Note 5, Edge and S6 got 2K display my Zenfone ZE550ML is 720p so there isnt any way why this phone would need stronger GPU. When I benchmark GFXBench Im at the same values or at better values than these phones.. its not really about the stronger GPU.. I dont want to be rude guys but Im complete newbie in this and I think that I got more knowledge than all of you. When you are playing game then onscreen value is counted you arent playing on 2K when you have only 720p display.. thats why ZE550ML with 720p display got bigger 3D score than 1080px version ZE551ML.
As i said, this is a intel chip and the Houdini conversion must probably still have some improvement.
For me, this is a software issue....

wow.. but in reality those devices still beats us.. blame the x86 or intel chipset then.. maybe the games is slower because it needs to be translated from ARM to x86 in zf2.. and another thing, our CPU antutu score is only around 46-48k for ze551ml, you cant compare S6 with 60k antutu.. CPU influences GPU performance too..

Btw these are becoz, games are not well optimised for power vr gpu and x86 sadly... Gameloft optimize much for mali gpu, as they teamed up, while many games optimized for adreno
And graphics benchmarks using cpu and gpu not just gpu.. So the scores they scored are including cpu, gpu.. .
Well Im gonna wait for Snapdragon 820 and then I will buy a new phone.. or I will pick Meizu 5 Pro with Exynos 7420.. I though Zenfone 2 will be good device for another 2 years in case of gaming but I got this device for 6 months and games started lagging.. because this phone isnt strong enough thats so sad.. I even skipped ZE551ML for only ZE550ML to have 720p display so FPS in games would be better.. but this phone cant even run newest games on full fps.
Can someone verify if its only my problem that games are lagging or its because of the low power of this device? (Maybe someone who got CM12.1 can check if there is better performance?)
Games:
Dungeon Hunter 5
Order and Chaos 2
Eternity Warriors 4
Asphalt 8 (started lagging little bit too after last update on highest settings)
Every game from this list is play-able but for example Dungeon Hunter 5 got really bad graphic and feels like 15 FPS, same goes for Eternity Warriors 4 and Order and Chaos 2 is running normally like 60 FPS and then lag for a second and making it really awful to play.
Thanks

Not to be rude or anything. But I guess it goes with the saying... "you get what you paid for".... Technically and almost often, the more you pay the more you get. Ip6 and s6 are not eligible comparison to zf2 for 3 reasons.
1. Specs
2. Price
3. They both belong to high end high price phones while zf2 belongs to the mid range.
Just my two cents.
I have never noticed these game stutters and problems other people seem to have. I don't game on my phone much these days, but my 550 and my memo pad 7 me572 (same ram and same atom 3560 as the 550 but 1200p display) have had no trouble with games when ever I have.
If u are in stock rom just go to power saver app and use the customized mode ..... Use high performance and extend battery standby by choosing only the apps u wantbto give uodates in background in notification panel
Performance will improve and no change in battery

Well I would never buy iPhone 6 or S6.. because S6 here in Czech republic (Europe) cost over 1000 USD while Meizu 5 Pro will cost around 500-550 USD and performs better than S6 with the same hardware.. I got my ZE550ML almost the first day that it was released for 260 USD. I was doing a big research especially about the gaming performance and I found that Zenfone 2 is out performing every mobile phone even One Plus One - the flag ship killer. Because its 720p display ZE550ML had the most FPS in every syntetic 3D benchmark. There simply wasnt stronger phone at the time I bough this phone for 3D performance.
Thats why I also dont get it why games laggs on this phone while FPS is so high... S6 got 2k display and got lower onscreen FPS values than Zenfone 2 onscreen. Why is game lagging then. I had no problem to pay 500USD for a phone that could run every game flawlessly for around 1,5 year.. and I though Zenfone with these FPS values was enough so why would I buy 1000 USD or 500 USD phone when Zenfone for 260 USD had the most FPS ? If zenfone 2 had 20 FPS average and 500 USD phone had 60 FPS I would definetly buy 500 USD phone.. but when ZF2 had 35 FPS in TRex and 500 USD phone had 30 FPS.
Thats why I didnt get any MT6752/3 phone with Mali T760 / 720 (MP2?) because they are getting like 7 FPS and cost 150-200USD (almost same as ZF2 - they got even higher antutu because of the CPU but GPU is just trash in MTK SoC).
I will get new Letv/Meizu/Xiaomi for 450 USD that should be released in about 2 months I hope so.. but now Im finding if there is a way that ZF 2 can be capable of playing these games without lags.
- Overclock
- ROM change
- Factory reset ? (I guess it wouldnt help)
- ??

There is zero performance incerase even if I play games in ultra power safe mode they are just running the same as in performance mode.. looks like placeholder for "newbie" people.
Hmm... in this case, something is wrong with your phone. On mine, its a clear difference.

Questions about Xiaomi Mi Max Before I Buy It

I'm interested in buying the Xiaomi Mi Max. But before I do I got some questions:
1) Is it compatible with T-mobile USA on their 4G LTE?
2) Can you install Marshmallow on it?
3) Is the phone easily bendable making it not structurally sound?
4) I saw a review that said that the video recording was jumpy and not stable. If this is true, is there a fix to this?
5) What are any problems with it you dont like?
6) Which is better, this phone or the Doogee Y6 Max?
7) Do you recommend this phone?

I own a MI Max 128gb helium, and all is perfect for me, Miui 8 is android 6.0.1 the phone doesn't bend at all already had a go and it's solid good quality device, that bloke on the web must have bought a bad one, As for the dodgee I have a friend who has one and they really are dodgey the battery life last at best half a day with it, where as the MI MAX will easily reach 2 days with moderate use, The performance is absolutely great on the MI Max Prime, as for video recording mine is perfect so must be just the odd person getting a broken device, overall I highly recommend the MI Max Prime best phone I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of Android devices sure you will enjoy it too!
The MI Max Prime supports every band in the UK so should work fine anywhere else, in fact it uses more bands than most UK bought smart phones so all good
PS I highly recommend you spend the extra 40 bucks and get the Prime 128gig model, for the storage extra gig of ram and the snapdragon 652 with 2 extra cores making 8 in total it's a rocket of a phone
Sent from my MI MAX using Tapatalk
look, this phone is pretty great, it comes with Android MM out of the box, the performance is outstanding and perfect, the Camera is very average, if you are looking for a phone with a good camera then the Mi Max is not for you

Well its a delightful phone for gaming especially with headphones. GPU is not top of the pop's but it will run things smoothly in 96% of Android game title's present on a play store. For instance Real Racing 3 (EA Game's) is totally smooth wile GPU is kept at 433MHz (out of 600) most of the time as it doesn't need more power for it on the other hand Xenowerk utilities GPU fully at max frequency & on longer bigger lv's after 15~20 min it throttles down a bit but still effect it totally smooth game play also available games based on Unreal Engine & Unity will run nicely. I didn't tried the Dolphine Emulator nor do I intend but I don't think Adreno 510 is a stellar choice for it (nor that their is a phone right now with a GPU for it that I would recommend).
Best regards.

Appreciate the indepth response. Do you know if a PS2 emulator can work on it?
I know that the phone wonk work on tmobile USA's 4G LTE. But will it work on its 3G band?
Its a coin toss now between the Xiaomi Mi Max and Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra. The Xiaomi is prced at $160 while the Asus is at $500 but with a 7 inch screen. And I love big phones. I'll probably still go for the Xiaomi. Let mw know if you know if it can use tmobile's 3G.. and thanks.

Think PS 2 Emulator will work just fine.
I don't live in the US but in EU & in most EU countries LTE works with an exception of Netherlands. 3G should work in the US I think. A tip; go to the GSM Arena & compare bands to the carrier used ones.
The Mi Max Prime 4/128 GB is still 300$ without import taxes the lesser Prime model (3/64 GB still with S652) is probably the best buy & Asus is actually 6.8".
Best regards.

User experience question - how smooth is it, coming from older but faster phone?

I love large displays and fast phones on the budget. I was considering Pocophone F1 and Honor Note 10, but both don't have LTE band 4 for Canada so that's a deal breaker. Mi Max 3 looks awesome, but the CPU is slower than my current phone (Le Max 2 with Snapdragon 820, which cost me $200 2 years ago). It's Antutu score is around 140,000, and Mi Max 3 118,000. So my question is how smooth would be user experience, launching apps etc. coming feom a 2-year old phone with faster CPU? If it's just detail level or loading times in some heavy games - I don't care really, but if it affects everyday user experience, it may be a problem. My Le Max 2 started having stutters and slowdowns so I need to upgrade, and Mi Max 3 screen size and package looks very appealing. Question is whether I would be disappointed with the user experience? My typical use is Waze, Facebook, Twitter, Email, browsing, media playback, DJI drone piloting and very rare gaming.
Wrong forum I guess. Are you asking about Mi Max 3 (nitrogen)? This forum is for 1st gen Mi Max (hydrogen / helium)

Question Is there any way to "un-throttle" 9 Pro full potential?

Regarding the OnePlus throttling gate, you can read here:

The OnePlus 9 seems to be throttling its performance in many popular apps
The OnePlus 9 Pro seems to be limiting the performance in popular apps like Chrome, Twitter, Zoom, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and more.

This is just stupid, I have been running a 7 pro for 4 years, it has been, hands down, one of the best smartphones I ever owned, performance has been great from day 1 to last day and it is still living with a relative of mine, and he is supper happy with it, I have play a lot, like A LOT and it has worked flawlessly every single time.
I got a 9 pro in october past year and it has been a pain in the ass, the poor performance has been annoyingly usual, the only way to play 120FPS in some games is a magisk module intended for a Samsung F62 which I can't figure out why (because I have no knowledge about this) but it makes some game run 120FPS, however performance is really bad, there is frame drops in some points where my couple's nord 2 demolishes with no issue... I can't figure out why a nord 2 outperforms my 9 pro (i know nord 2 is 90Hz but it is much more solid 90FPS being lower tier).
Let me explain, my couple nord 2 remains 90FPS where my 9 pro gets as low as 30FPS, it is noticeable and annoying.
Is there some sort of magisk module or something "comfortable" for newbies which can be enabled or disabled at taste? I don't mind rebooting phone (I do every time i want to play some games with module I mentioned xd)
I did not tinker with kernels (not yet, did in the past with my former LG G2 and Galaxy S3 but it was quite different). I would like to remain in the Oxygen OS path for now too.
I tried lots of things, AI booster for magisk, also Adreno drivers and nothing seems to work, just performance scaling which seems to lower freq in order to improve battery life, but never higher performance (high performance mode in battery settings seems to do nohing, also tried)
Looking for this as well, as well as a module to disable annoying Doze by the SystemUI. I tried a few modules but the devices still dozes.

The links you posted, those articles are not RELEVANT to YOUR issue. The throttling you're experiencing is a thermal throttling behavior that is literally NORMAL and part of EVERY OEM/Phone.
If you're on a STOCK ROM, the only way to somewhat "kill" the default throttling behavior is to disable/freeze the BATTERY package (app) either via Titanium Backup or some other app. That will prevent the phone from throttling based on the SKIN/Battery temperature.
Otherwise, Custom ROMs based on either OOS12 or OOS13 don't have any of that stock OEM throttling behavior.

Is it really thermal throttling? I mean, phone does not get any warmer than usual and for example, Brawl Stars is capped at 60 FPS like most games in BBK phones (but Brawl stars worked 120FPS flawless some time ago, not much, a year ago or so I had a Realme GT Neo 2 which ran games buttersmooth and has basically the same software, color OS, which now has the same issue, games capped to 60 FPS and crap performance)
That is not normal behaviour because Brawl Stars devs claimed the game is fully unlocked and if it works below screen refresh is because of the phone software, that's the "throttling" I mean, don't know if it is because of the famous whitelisting of Oppo.
What I mean is in previous software games worked properly and now performance is a joke (I mention realme GT Neo 2 because is what I could test in the past, I loved it, that's why is a bummer getting a "better phone" which works much worse).

An Xbox? Are you from USA?
I just want my phone works as it should, I don't care about battery.
Also tried disabling battery app and no difference, same behaviour, I'm in OOS13 latest update.
Maybe I should give a try to custom ROM...

it is because of thermal throttling, literally. The phone doesn't get warmer because it's being limited, hence the point of thermal throttling.
The refresh rate - FPS - in a game depends solely on the devs. If the game has in one device for example support for 120 FPS, and it doesn't have in another device, it's not because of the device but because the developers either didn't "whitelist" that specific device or weren't updated in a longer time.

The refresh rate - FPS - in a game depends solely on the devs. If the game has in one device for example support for 120 FPS, and it doesn't have in another device, it's not because of the device but because the developers either didn't "whitelist" that specific device or weren't updated in a longer time.

Hmm...
With the magisk module I mentioned device name changes from LE2123 to SO-52A or something similar, makes also work codm 120 FPS pretty good, much better than brawl stars which is much weaker in terms of graphics quality and detail.
Is there any way to spoof model name to test this? If so devs are lying big time. When launched 9 pro they announced collab with many games, even hypertouch feature which is gone and for what seems now touch sampling rate is just 120Hz from the 360 advertised (monitoring with apps say so).
Also tried to disable battery app and no difference, behaviour is the same.

Disabling the battery app is for the throttling workaround, not to increase the frames in the game that don't support it on your device. lol
Anyways, blame the devs...They're the ones that need to add support for the specific device to go above the XY FPS.
The smartphone wasn't intended to be a gaming device. Chipset and battery not rated for it. Get an Xbox or some similar device for gaming that it was intended for! Just my opinion.
You can test the throttling using a CPU/GPU Throttle Testing app. The OP 9 starts throttling at a low temperature, I can notice FPS dropping in games starting at 38 degrees.
I use a cooling fan attached to my OP to keep the phone at a constant 32 degrees. I also bought a heat dispersion case to help further.
Also using Konabess to undevolt the GPU also helps a bit.

I'm not asking for it to perform in graphic demanding games, I'm telling you even a redmi note 10 pro (that thing is actually not rated for anything) outperforms the 9 pro in light gaming because it is not capped.
Blame the devs, blame OnePlus, I just want to know if there is any solution, I purchased the phone a few months ago and I'm finding stupid behaviours an "allegedly" flagship should not have.
Jeez even my couple Nord 2 is much better in games, that hurts...
And yeah. Get an Xbox blablabla, I do own a PS4, a powerful laptop and a powerful desktop, I just want my stupid phone to do what it should do or at least know why or if it can be solved, this is not r/xbox.
This is an issue many people complain about but OnePlus ever stated anything.
For what I can see my options are getting a cheap 120HZ phone or custom ROM (I saw a blackshark 4 for 200EUR which runs games fine)

The thing is when released the 9 pro, OnePlus brand had collabs with many games, even hypertouch, all of it disappeared into thin air...
That was the main reason for me to purchase, I had a great experience with my former 7 pro and I couldn't even think this could be a thing.

This thread is of the main dev of the game I'm talking about. He claims the brand has to whitelist app in order to make it work 120HZ/120FPS.
Is there no way to modify that "whitelist"? I've read sometimes about this but rarely found anything (anything users can do about it lmao) and we all know how lazy oppo is with this things, there can be a thousand posts in OnePlus community ther will never answer.

This is a GAME SIDE issue, not a phone-side issue. There is no whitelist on a phone that will enable you the unsupported FPS.

An Xbox? Are you from USA?
I just want my phone works as it should, I don't care about battery.
Also tried disabling battery app and no difference, same behaviour, I'm in OOS13 latest update.
Maybe I should give a try to custom ROM...

If you want to try a custom rom, Extended is great as daily driver and for gaming as well
Well, if XBox isn't available then look for a Microsoft Play Station instead!

You are totally correct my friend... I have been tinkering with vmos app, I created a virtual machine in my own phone (lmao sounds like science fiction, but damnit this 888 has muscle) and it is just because devs do it intentionally.
I tried different phone makes and models... Casually Snapdragon flagship cap the game to 60FPS, but NORD devices make it run 120 FPS (you can set FPS settings in the VM option).
This is hilarious. Seems to me OnePlus just broke some contract conditions and this is devs punishment... Makes no sense, I have to test further but this is what I found for now. My doubt is if I might get a ban for using the game in a virtual machine... This is not relevant for this post!
Hope it helps someone, for exclusive games working just 120HZ in some devices you can spoof model name without root

Try your own phone model in the virtual machine. What happens?

If I set up OnePlus LE2123/20/25 game runs 60FPS.
If I set for instance, my couple nord 2 DN2103 runs 120FPS same settings, just device name and brand changed!
Presets for S20, Xiaomi 10, vivo x50 all run 120 FPS.
Which for me is big yikes It is clearly devs fault, there has to be something odd...

So what are you saying exactly: if we spoof our device to a different one, we get more fps?
