Question OP9 Pro Netflix unwatchable, darkness problem with HDR content (LE2123_11_C.62)? - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hi, first of all, I did all the googling, read reddit etc. so the following problem seems to be quite common, u find it a lot on the internet, but maybe I have not seen a possible fix yet...
So, I got the OP9 Pro yesterday, did all the updates, so iam on LE2123_11_C.62 EU right now. When I watch netflix, the dark / black colours, are so dark, I cant see anything. Video quality looks really, really bad, basically unwatchable. Brightness in the system and netflix settings obv highest possible lvl.
I tried the following:
- changed all the video/picture enhancement options in the settings menu, on/off, combinations, everything. Nothing helped.
- Restarted the phone, tried PIP, uninstalled the Netflix app via ADB (u cant uninstall it manually caus they put it as systems app...), reinstalled via play store
- turned off HW-Overly or so in developer settings, caus someone said this will fix it, it didnt.
I basically read 2h of reddit and whatever not threads, I tried so many possible fixxes, nothing helped.
The colours/blacks are so bad, I cant watch netflix at all, makes no sense. It seems to be a long term problem of this phone, caus u find people complaining abt this back from their OP 7. This is only a problem with the dark/black colours and probably HDR?
For a almost 1000€ Phone, this is just ridiclious... I come from a Poco x3 and even though that screen was garbage, at least it would play netflix content properly...
Maybe I missed smt and there is a fix for this?
Thx so much, if I dont find a way to fix it, this phone goes back to OP.

no idea what to tell you. i'm stock and rooted no issues. have u tried uninstalling netflix and reinstalling after a restart? if that persist try reinstalling your current or latest firmware. OP9 Pro is a great phone with a spectacular screen

Hello ,
I have exactly the same dark and yellowish image problem on netflix and amazon prime video.
it seems that the problem only occurs in hdr or high quality video. so I think that with the netflix 1 screen or 2 screens subscription there should not be the same problem.
indeed in the netfix settings if I lower the video quality (saving data) the image becomes much brighter.
I think there is really a big bug on hdr content, and what is more worrying is that the problem is still present in the oos13 beta despite the problem having been reported several times...

the problem seems to be known for a long time and still not corrected and affecting many users:

Is there a way to effectively resolve this issue?

Apparently not...I'm on one plus 8t on Android 13 and the black section are simply unwatchable

[Q] LiquidSmooth 3.2-2014-07-28, Videos mostly appear only in pink and green

Hello, I've been a member for a while and I can usually figure problems out on my own just by searching, but this is something I haven't seen anything on after some pretty extensive searching (unless I'm just searching wrong). When I try playing most videos, they play as normal, but all the colors are green. There is also a pink color, but it is stretched and doesn't seem to line up with the green portion of the video (which looks to have the proper ratio). This happens in the YouTube app, when I'm screen mirroring on my TV, and in YouTube via Chrome (but only when not in full screen).
Does anybody have experience with this or know why this might be happening? The videos were working before I installed this rom, and it's not this way for all videos, just most of them. Again, these are standard YouTube videos that I have no trouble playing on my computer or TV, and some videos will even display properly on my phone while I'm screen mirroring, but will be green/pink on the TV simultaneously.
I've also attached some pictures so you can see what I mean, since I'm not quite sure how to describe it.
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for it?
EDIT: I've done some more searching around and found some people that have had similar issues, but on PC and not Android. It seems their fix is to disable hardware acceleration, but I don't see anything like that anywhere in the settings. Should I install a new kernel? Could that be part of the problem?
Edit2: I'm going to try flashing a new rom tonight to see if anything changes, will edit with any updates.
Flashed SlimKit yesterday, videos work like a charm now. Seems there may have been an issue with either the ROM or kernel I was using before. Mods, feel free to close/delete this.

Clicking noise when playing back a video

I am having an issue with videos recorded on my LGG4. During playback on the phone or uploaded to Facebook, there is a constant clicking noise that can be heard over any recorded sound on every video. I have tested several different recordings and all are the same. Here is a short sample that you can listen too...
https://goo.gl/photos/h2aYZNoqCQJNMSoo7
Bad phone or is there a easy fix?
Hi. I have the same playback issue on my G4. I tried recording with Google Camera and I had no problem, no weird sounds or whatever. I guess this happens only when using the stock camera app. Mine is updated to MM v20a.
Hi, same problem here. That's the second exchange with amazon, the first one had display issues (random white noise on the right half of the display) this one has the clicking noise during video recording on the left channel. Seems like it's related with the wifi module: disabling it the clickning noise disappears, but the audio recording is still bad compared to the previous g4 i returned to amazon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9d8oP-uAG8&feature=youtu.be
I have the same issue. Strange that everything is fine when using different app. Looks like firmware problem ? Did you sort it out ? I have just updated my phone to Android 6.0 v20c .
guys, can you try turn off wifi then record video , do you still have clicking sound ?
if u use a case, try record without the case.
Hi. I have switched my wifi off and I did not notice any changes. Still I can hear clicking noise. I do not use any cases. Strange that everything is fine when I using google camera open app... I found out that lots of people noticed the same issue. It cannot be hardware problem...
I have the same problem, but ONLY and ONLY if wifi is on, i get clicking sound in stock camera WITH wifi on, in other apps i dont have it, but when i turn it OFF , clicking sound is gone... even when i record video and during recording i turn of wifi, sound instantly dissapears, for me it's the wifi problem, i can upload video if you dont belive me
I have the same clicking noise with or without wifi on. I did not notice any issues when using open google camera app. Looks like it is stock camera app fault ?

clicking sound comes near earpiece.what default camera does is that it records audio from secondary mic which is near earpiece.whereas 3rd party camera womt use secondary mic.that too clicking sound will come more when wifi/bluetooth is ON.
Same here, and clicking goes away with WiFi off.
Wanted to ask, did anybody return and got a replacement device based on this? Or even had it fixed by service?
I mean, are there devices that don't have this problem? Cause if there are, then it's a valid warranty/service request.
I have got my mother board replaced.

Was that the only problem it had? And is the problem gone now?
We purchased one of these in December and there was no issue with the phone. We had to return the phone for another reason and when we got it back it was updated to the latest version of Android Marshmellow (It was on Lollipop when it left) and the clicking was there. We also noticed a minor reduction in photo quality, not something I can put a finger on it, but when we first got it the photos were awesome, now they are not so clear, colourful, sharp.
Edit:
We sent it back for repair again due to the clicking and when we got it back (last night) nothing changed, it still makes the same noise.
I can stop the clicking but I have to turn off Wifi, Data and bluetooth and then it seems to go away.
As I'm new to Android I'm hesitant to see if I can take it back to Lollipop and see if it stops the problem.
What version of software are you on?
Does turning off Wifi, Data, Bluetooth help? Or does it just reduce the sound?
Do the pictures seem less then what a camera with these specs should have?
Marshmallow v20d. Yes turning off things makes the clicking go totally away. Can't comment on picture quality change, as I updated to marshmallow as soon as I got it.
Had mine sent two times in less than a month, on its way to the third this week.
First time was sent with this audio problem and battery swelling. They replaced the battery and the charging connectors, but said they could not reproduce the earpiece clicking noise during their tests, despite the fact that I had included in the phone a video example showing the problem, clear instructions on how to replicate the problem and the shop lady confirming - in writing - that she had tested and confirmed that there was a clicking noise problem. Problem was, when I received the phone from the first repair I was unable to test whether the audio problem was gone or not because they changed the last account associated to the phone, completely blocking me from accessing it and verify if the audio problem as still present.
Sent back a second time on the same day, with even more clear details on how to reproduce the audio problem - since they failed to reproduce the first time, I assumed it was still there - returned after a simple software upgrade and I was able to finally enter the phone. Came home, tested with WiFi (store's wifi was down) and the audio problem was still there, completely unchanged.
Tested without SIM (in case LTE/GSM etc. could be causing interference with WiFi), tested without SDCARD (at this point I was just trying to see what they did to NOT replicate the problem) and tested with 5GHz wifi, in case the problem was only with 2.4GHz bands. No change, the audio problem was always there.
After reading this thread, and other threads in different forums, I am certain that this is a hardware problem and I will demand that the store tech writes in the warranty sheet that he confirmed the problem, along with a very detailed step-by-step instruction guide to replicate the problem, video example included inside the phone and a link to video example hosted only for them to hear clearly what the problem is, just in case they fail to understand the obvious (https://youtu.be/oZOb8tIl5lw). Finally, I'm going to contact LG directly to report this situation and to take action if the incompetent brand techs fail to replicate and fix the problem yet again.
The only good part about all this is that they have been really fast, no more than week and a half (weekends included) for both "repairs".
NFC was the issue on my android Nokia 3
I have a brand new Nokia 3 running android 7.1.1
It also has the problem of audio clicks on video recordings. THE PROBLEM IS NFC. When NFC is disabled the clicks go away. Not impressed with a 2017 smartphone model having thus issue. Though Nokia probably have the Microsoft bug curse
I have the same problem with my 2016 LG G4. I sent my phone to LG Service and they replaced my speaker obviously not resolving the problem... now I'm sending it back again.

[SOLVED] - Problem with built-in casting function MIUI11

Dear All,
I would really appreciate if anyone could help me here.
I have issues with casting my phone screen to a display, let alone choose the advertised options like cast with screen off.
RN8PRO MIUI 11.0.2.0 (PGGEUXM)
When I am on that cast screen and tickle the cast button to the right, it just does nothing at all.
I have seen online people doing the same thing and then it opens a pop-up at bottom of the screen and start searching for display. For me it does not, it just stays there doing nothing.
If I leave that screen and come back it is again disabled.
So my simple question has anyone managed to cast anything using that built-in function?
I can cast using apps with cast-enabled function no issue, and yes I have Miracast enabled device, yet the built-in cast function seems completely broken -or- I have disabled a service it needs to work, idk.
With the app Wireless Display for MIUI I can workaround this and cast my display at the very least, however, I dont have access to any of the cast options advertised on the cast page.
The fact it does not open the small pop-up at bottom of the screen searching for devices makes me think I have some kind of problem, either permissions too restricted on something or some needed services disabled.
Please help if you can.
Regards.

Those two services are needed for casting to work:
Mi Connect Service (com.xiaomi.mi_connect_service)
UniPlay Service (com.milink.service)
So if you debloated your phone you need those two back on and running. If they are, search for remote display happens and remote displays are found as expected.

Yes that's also the information I have.
However my problem described above also concerns casting to a Miracast device. The built-in method from settings just does not do anything for me, it does not search for anything at all actually. Therefore cannot find anything either
I am surprised not more people are using casting/mirroring features of their phones, RN8Pro being such a powerfull devices it makes a very nice handcomputer.
I wonder if that built-in function works for anyone.
Regards.
The Cast option does not work for me either.
I use the Wireless display option to cast to Chromecast.
Is there a difference between these two options?
I think I found the solution or at least the source of my own problem (took me enough time...).
As I was expecting I had debloated my phone a bit too much and removed some services needed for features I am using which at that time did not look like that needed for me.
Those two services are:
Mi Connect Service (com.xiaomi.mi_connect_service)
UniPlay Service (com.milink.service)
So if you debloated your phone you need those two back on and running. If they are, search for remote display happens and remote displays are found as expected.
Once you have reenabled those two services, the cast button is again available from the quick access and working.

I know that our phone is using the MiraCast technology which google has been removed from Chromecast (it was there before) and Android starting A9. Xiaomi keeps it in MIUI that's why we still have it.
However what I am uncertain of, is how MIUI is supporting Chromecast too? From what I read you can still mirror to a Chromecast if you are willing to use the Home app.
Myself now that I got some Amazon Fire TV stick, I prefer those a lot more for the same price compared to Chromecast, simply because you can mirror your screen without having to be connected to internet, one among many things that annoyed me on Chromecast. And they used Miracast technology.
Hope this helps.

Yeah I figured this finding would be probably useful to someone. Took me about 3 months to come up with the solution out of random tbh. Strangely none seemed to experience that issue judging by the number of answers I received in that time. And I am expecting people on XDA to debloat their phones out of the box like I did, maybe they were just more cautious than me and went a bit less aggressive on the matter. idk.
Anyway I am glad my findings could help you out too!

It has been a while since I last attempted to solve this issue.
Last I was working on this, my researches has lead me to think the resolution of the phone which is quite big, might have been too big for casting receiver devices to process smoothly. Casting receivers do not have as big of a display resolution which often is 720p max or maybe lower for some.
As a result my investigations suggested me to try lower the phone display resolution before casting.
Unfortunately I am lacking time to test my theory and see if lowering phone resolution actually improves the playback on the casting device.
Please let us know of your findings if you decide to test those hypothesis yourself.
Good Luck!

I am sorry I have not had time to do some testings myself.
All I know and noticed was while casting from apps with built-in casting feature, it worked like a charm, however as soon as I started to mirror my screen, then it was lagging too.
Back then I assumed it was because of phone resolution vs casting devices because it was way bigger than casting receiver (usually at best 720p max and even 480p for older devices), but if you are saying it does not change anything well I am running out of ideas at the moment.
You changed both the resolution and the density of the screen using the following two commands?
Code:
begonia:/ $ wm size
Physical size: 1080x2340
begonia:/ $ wm density
Physical density: 440
Those are original RN8P resolution and density, they might be both too big for casting devices to handle, idk, might require testing.
Please let us know if your findings.

Question Prime Video HD

Also found that if uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work, try deregistering your device in PrimeVideo's Device list.
I got license generate (iirc) error few hours after, and PrimeVideo were stuck in SD again, where uninstalling and reinstalling don't work. But deregister the devices and logging in again after reinstall made it work again.
So either Amazon did put pad 5 on their whitelist or this is just some bug in their software.
When I got the Pad 5 Amazon Prime only worked in SD. But I just checked again and I can now confirm that Amazon Prime is working in HD. I didn't need to reinstall the app. Maybe it got whitelisted by Amazon in the meantime.
The Amazon App was updated and now Amazon works fine. On my Redmi Note 10 5g Amazon in sd

I got a bug on mine, not 100% sure what's the cause. But sometimes the Widevine become downgraded from L1 to L3 (usually when i realized why is my netflix stuck in SD), check DRM Info and DRM randomly becomes L3.
Fix that work: Clear all Storage for netflix (app and cache), restart the device. Then log back in into netflix.
not 100% sure but most likely caused by either dark more or reading mode, as it often triggers when those two were on.
EDIT: have tested it all, Dark mode, reading mode, adaptive color, dolby atmos, 60hz mode. this bug still exist
At this point I'm clueless to what might cause it. It happened sometimes regularly, just let the series or film plays for less than 5-10 minutes and the screen freezes but the sound kept playing. It would say "Device Failure occured. Please Try again (500.-116)." At this point, netflix logged out itself, and when you check DRM Info your widevine level will be downgraded to L3. Other devices work fine without issue.
Going to try factory reset I guess.
EDIT 2:
Have tried factory reset twice (One through factory reset in the settings and the other from recovery menu). It seems that's server side issue, as it happened in regular fashion at the time, but now without doing anything it doesn't happen yet.
EDIT 3:
Tried disabling Automatic Brightness, it work so far. I also think that the issue seems to happen when it was used in a dark room and not when using it them in a well lit room.
EDIT 4:
No clue, still trying few things, none of them work.

Usually restarting would reset it back to L1.
It seems I've found a temporary fix. Not 100% if this is the fix, though. I've had these L1 to L3 random downgrade today, every 10 minutes. One thing I haven't tried to disable is Automatic Brightness, I did, and voila it has not recurred anymore... so far.
So far IIRC these errors would always appear when I'm using it in a non well lit room.

It is just like that for the moment. Can't really tell if it was software related, or that there's some background homing stuff to xiaomi server to maintain Widevine and that their servers were busy at the time this issue appears, or some broken/buggy app/battery optimization that stops a service that's vital for widevine at random times(that's why a restart brings the cert back to L1??)
So far, there's no 100% fix, all you can do is reset the cert back to L1. Or just wait for few hours, as usually it only happen for few hours then it works again no issue for few days.
And if you browse the internet a bit, you can tell that many MIUI device with MIUI 12 suffer from this issue—downgraded L1 to L3 until restart. Which also includes requesting new cert via fingerprint payment settings (which doesn't exist for the MIUI os for this tab)
Here are my current steps:
Close the streaming app.
Hold the app > press the app info button (circled "i")
Clear all data (this will delete your downloaded video and your login)
OPTIONAL: Disable: Darkmode, Reading Mode, automatic brightness, and Adaptive colors. (I still have Dolby Atmos on, 120hz on, Vivid display with default temperature *Why Optional: Because not sure yet whether this does actually do anyhting. Cause it's really hard to replicate the issue, since this issue happen at random times. Sometimes the downgrade just happen reliably every x minutes over few hours whatever I do or change—which frustrates me and I just switch to another devices—or sometimes they don't happen at all for a few days.
Do a restart/Shutdown then turn on the device.
Log in back into the streaming service.

The hard part is that it happens only once a day or so that I struggle to capture it. So I'd probably have to run on safe mode for a long while, I'll see if I can get Google to replace. Cheers
I've never had that, I'd RMA that if I were you!

Hi, anyone has this issue with pixel 6 pro. It only happens on video from YouTube and very intermittent. Does not happen to the same video. Have not seen it in full screen or on other apps. Very strange bug or is it hardware issue in which case I should get a replacement

I definitely had that happen last week when I was watching Youtube! This was after a factory reset too so I wasn't sure what was happening. Same exact thing, lines flashed across the screen just like yours. I have not seen it happen since or perhaps I haven't been watching enough videos on the phone since.
Have you contacted support, and what did they say? I'm kind of scared to contact them with all the outsourcing now and other stories I've been seeing about them not being as helpful as they used to be.

I'm not sure but am wondering the same thing. I was not able to get a hold of Google support but will try after the new year. If the OP can see it happening randomly I bet it is happening randomly for us too but we haven't caught it again. It looks like those old CRT TV's. I unfortunately was not able to get screen recorder open in time to capture when it was happening.

There is no need to record your screen. you can send google the op recording
I hope google will fix this phone.. I guess that is what you get for being a Tensor early adopter.
I just had this happen too for the first time, happened to quickly to get any recording of it. Also on YouTube as I was adding a video to my watch later. Are you using Vanced by any chance? Maybe it's just the software glitch with that?! Hope there's no hardware fault going on here...

I am using the regular Youtube app since I pay for premium. I don't think its related to any app as the OP said it also happened on other videos.
Also have this happen to me somewhat often (once or twice a day), but it's only ever in the youtube app. I'm using the YouTube vanced app and It's never happened in any other app.

Interesting.....let's hope a fix is on it's way at some point...
Have you guys noticed a graphical glitch in Google photos? When in landscape and the video is paused and you scroll up from the bottom of the screen for your settings, a glitch appears!
It was first mentioned in Reddit.
I've had the same thing, but it appears at the bottom of the screen (it's happened a few times, maybe 5 or 6) - and for mine it was about an inch high. It was really odd - never seen a glitch like that before. usually you can tell if it's the display or software but this was very similar to op's - and it stayed for like 10 seconds. using Brave Browser, not watching a video (pixel 6 pro on december build)
YES YES YES! Thank you for the post, OP!
This wasn't an issue till about five days ago and it only occurs in the YouTube application! It's difficult to reproduce, but usually having a video running, opening the comments section then successively minimizing and maximizing the video (in Portrait mode) can trigger this error.
I suspect it has something to do with a change in refresh rate, since this particular change causes just that.
It's not annoying to the point I have considered turning the phone back, but it's mildly concerning especially since the first time it occurs, you're unsure whether it's a hardware or software issue.
Same here with YouTube Vanced in the exact same Spot, never seen in another app
Try newpipe instead. Hint: no ads
