Question Pixel 6 pro randomly rebooted while charging during the night.. - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Plugged my pixel 6 in to charge and at approximately 1am it rebooted and when I woke up around 8am it asked me for my pin instead of fingerprint to unlock it.. anyone ever experienced this.. I am on lastest software android 13.. thanks

system UI could have crashed? maybe? this happens from time to time. gotta love android lol (and i do)

Kinda what I was thinking . First time in a couple months that I've had the phone . Should I be worried ?

I'd only worry if it happened to me on a regular basis.

This happens to me basically every night while on the Pixel Stand (Gen 1) while I'm asleep. I honestly have no idea what's causing it. This is my second P6P and they both did the same thing. I am rooted so I guess it could be related to that.
I just wanted to add my experience here because I was actually going to create a thread about this but didn't want to get yelled at about NOT SEARCHING before I posted.

GNex rebooting randomly

don't know if this is happening to you guys but i've had this phone for a week and a couple of times out of nowhere it just reboots, is not often and i definitively don't play with it much, like right now it was just sitting there at the desk and boom, it rebooted, that's like the second or third time in a week, anybody else experiencing this issue?
i'll be pissed if i have to replace it as i just put an invisible shield on that shinny screen.
It hapend to me to I waS watching a video in flash ...its his first day with me)

I had the same issue while using juice defender which I originally bought for my s2. It seems to bug the nexus really bad at the moment.

Mine has done this twice now I think. At least the reboot is pretty quick, but not great even though.

Same here. Returned the 1st phone due to the random reboots and now the new one is starting to reboot randomly too. The phone reboots at least 4-5 times daily.
I've had this happen to me about once a day.
I noticed something unusual while travelling for the holidays: I did not experience a single reboot or hard freeze while having a Rogers SIM card in my phone while in Canada for a week.
Within 15 minutes of returning to the US and inserting my T-Mobile SIM card I had another hard freeze.
This seems pretty systematic, over 8 days with a T-Mobile SIM card I've had about one hard freeze per 24 hours. Over 7 days with a Rogers SIM card, not a single freeze or reboot.
Happens to mine as well every now and then. Today just after I had started it and it was lying on my desk.

I also experienced this when I was on stock rom (4.0.1) but it hasn't happened since I started flashing custom roms 3 weeks ago. on 4.0.3 now and not a single random reboot.

done it a couple more times after my last post, seriously thinking about taking it back to verizon, or should i wait for 4.0.3?

Sounds defective man. I wouldn't sit around waiting for 4.0.3 expecting it to help you out. Just get a replacement if its not a huge inconvenience (although random reboots are a big inconvenience ).
Well i went ahead and swapped it out, fingers crossed for no more issues.
the only thing i hate is that i'll have to install another InvisibleShield

I would switch it out for another one.
Mine does it only when my battery gets to a certain percentage, usually when it's low. Also notice it when I use wifi Tether app, when I close the program a few seconds later it reboots.
I dont have one myself but have been flashing and re-flashing on my NS4G since the first SDK port of ICS. My own experience and observation has been as follows: Once the official sources were release and the initial source builds began coming out, there was a problem with random reboots and as things were tweaked and adjusted they became less frequent then more frequent again and eventually in the right ROM/kernel combinations have almost entirely ceased. Its most likely a software glitch and until an update or you flash something custom it isnt likely to go away no matter how many times you exchange it....just my thoughts and opinion on it.
Happens to occasionally too... starting to wonder if its not all the phones or maybe just all androids in general
happens to mine when using gallery..but the phone doesnt reboot, it just powers off.....
Here's a funny off topic, after swapping the phone i picked up another invisibleshield from best buy as i had a rewards certificate, thought of using it instead of going through the hassle of shipping with zagg, got home, got my hands washed and ready to install and my invisibleshield package is empty.....
No $h!t so im pissed now and going back to best buy tomorrow hoping they dont think i stole it or something

Spontaneous Reboot Syndrome?

Does your device suffer from SRS (spontaneous reboot syndrome)?
This one is strange and I can't say it wasn't happening before the latest update (to 4.4.2). Before 4.4.2 I was not yet a CUCS sufferer (Compulsive Uptime Checker Syndrome).
However last night I was reading a book with my tablet next to me when it made its booting chime and this made me pause. Placing a bookmark in the latest Dresden novel I picked up my tablet and saw the LG logo. It rebooted for apparently no reason. So now I suffer from CUCS (Compulsive Uptime Checker Syndrome). Trying to see if the device is rebooting at odd times throughout the day.
So if all of you running stock 4.4.2 could periodically check your uptime as well so we can collectively determine if it is just my device that is doing this, I'd appreciate the help...
So far my uptime is still climbing and I'm now over 24 hours. If it does continue to spontaneously reboot I will probably start with a factory reset
So you want others to suffer your fate of becoming a CUCS sufferer....?!

Laughs, no, but it is the only way I could come up with to check if it was rebooting when it wasn't being used... So I apologize if you too end up with CUCS!

Glad you found it funny, that was the second goal of my post the first being trying to see if anyone else had noticed the device seemingly rebooting for no reason. It has not happened again (yet). I guess my CUCS must be in remission since I didn't check uptime before I left for work this morning...
FWIW I noticed that mine had uptime of almost a week, until I rebooted it last night after I rooted it.
It might have been influenced from your Dresden book, as Jim Butcher paints such a vivid picture spurious magic is known to flow from the pages. I would contact the white council if it should happen again.
Well, I shut my G Pad down almost every night when I charge it, so I'm probably not the best judge. That being said, my Pad is on for 14 or 15 hours a day, and I've almost never had a spontaneous reboot.

I never shut mine down. For one thing in standby, without being plugged in, I do not see even 1% battery drain after 8 hours, so really see no reason to shut it down.

I've seen probably a dozen reboots since I bought my gpad in December. Considering that I have tried every rom that has been produced for us and the fact I have settled firstly on CM11 Nightlies and now Infecteds CM11 Nightlies, I have to say I'm more than happy.
Especially when you take into account I tested both Demetris gpe rom and Kernel for him.
I've had a couple in the last week or so but again I am on Nightlies so I go into it expecting the odd issue.

I had my first spontaneous reboot last night since I bought it a few months ago. I dont know how long since I last rebooted it, but I know its been a while. Im on stock unrooted KK.
I can confirm at the very least that a spontaneous reboot for me does appear to be quite rare. Thanks to all who at least looked at their up-time as part of this and hopefully this syndrome has no long term lasting effects on us all! Enjoy the upcoming weekend!

Has anyone noticed any stuttering?

I just got the phone. I have probably had it 2 weeks. It doesn't happen alot but every once in a while the phone seems to be getting clogged up. To the point where I couldn't manipulate the phone at all. I would have to wait a few minutes for the phone to catch up. I'm not running very many apps when it happens. I've had 3 different apps going and listen to music and it hasn't happened. Then other times I can be running one app and it starts to lag. It doesn't seem to have any kind of pattern. I was going to just deal with it as it only happens every one in a while. But today it froze so bad the phone restarted it's self. What app was I running when this happened? Feebly I was reading a news article. Hardly a process intensive app.
So my question is. Do you guys think I should get a new phone? Or I was thinking a factory reset could fix this?

If you are within your exchange time period, I would definitely go ahead and swap it out. If you are outside of that then I wouldn't because you will probably get a refurb if you do a warranty exchange through Verizon. The main question is, How time do you have left before you cant exchange it in the store....
Mine doesn't stutter at all even after running a ton of apps when I first got the phone. I read another thread just a few minutes ago that mentioned if you have any stutter or slow downs return it immediately. The original poster mentioned it was a night and day difference when he exchanged it.
Something I found odd with this phone. Is that it has the download Booster. Last I heard Verizon was taking that out of there phones.

:) PLease help ME i would like for my phone to work again :)

Okay, so I have no idea what is wrong with my att note 4.This thing has always been kept in an otterrbox. It has been kept in perfect condition until an ota forced its self upon the phone. After that it started acting weird. Reboots, freezes, black screens, and sometimes something would get corrupted and the phone wouldn't boot at all. Sometimes the phone would make a constant buzzer or it would go straight to recovery but say sbl1 partition doesn't exist. Flashing stock worked for a while, but the problems would come back shortly and have gotten much worse.I just bought a brand new battery fully charged it and flashed stock 5.0, 5.1, 6.0. It doesn't matter i have tried it with the pit, without the pit same things happen. I have tried both batteries, fresh wipes, different firmware's, and now I can't even get it to boot at all no matter what I Try.
What do you guys think my problem could be i have no idea what it could be
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP

Hello,
After the marshmallow update I am facing the same. but i kept it running by downloading wakelock app from playstore . It somehow helps I am not sure the reason. Please select PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK option once you download.
Try to not to shut down the phone because of any reason.
I hope this helps! and do let me know if it does.
my phone has been doing this for the past year after the update to 5, I purchased it on ATT Next in december 2014 so I think i have 1 more next payment. thing is it was the BEST phone prior to the update to 5 then it has been hell. i've purchased 5 batteries which someitmes helped for a short period but currently i can't even use any of my tricks to get it to boot.
I have came so close to crushing the phone so many times. thank goodness ii'm older and wiser or else it would be long gone

I have read many sources available online. These updates sometime is not compatible with our phones. In case of note 4, certain model's CPU faces shutdown trouble due to update the moment we lock the screen or in standby mode. To keep them running there are apps like wakelock. Download that and select option Partial_wake_lock. This will help a bit hopefully. Worked for me. But this isn't a permanent solution.
Apologies in advance if my terminologies aren't correct or the solution doesn't work.

Factory Reset To Improve Battery Life

I got my Pixel 2 XL on 10/24/2017. From the day I got it until the February update the battery life was incredible. I was getting up to 9 hours SOT and 40 hours off the charger. The February update resulted in a noticeable decrease in battery life. The March update made it even worse. I'm now getting up to 6 hours SOT over 24 hours off the charger. I got the April update yesterday morning and despite the release notes mentioning 4 different battery life "improvements" it hasn't improved. It's still only a day after the April update but it seems like it might have gotten even worse.
I'm considering doing a factor reset but it's really a pain in the ass. Backup data, reset, reinstall and configure apps, restore data, reload music, etc. From start to finish it's a several hour process.
My question is, has anyone else with decreased battery life done a factory reset? Does it actually fix the decrease in battery life caused by the February and March updates? If it will really make a difference I'll go ahead and spend the time but I'd hate to waste the time to have it be the same after I'm done.

I was hesitant to admit it but my battery probably isn't as good as it was the first 3 months. I never got the numbers you did but comparing old screenshots to what I get now, both SOT and off the charger numbers have declined.
I've been contemplating doing a factory reset sooner than usual. I usually wait for 1 year with my phone but I might do it at 6 months, end of April, just to see. Would be nice to see someone confirm it helps or debunk that it doesn't.

You mentioned that you usually wait a year before doing a factory reset. Has it had any impact on battery life when you've done it in the past?
Just for a reference here is an old screen shot I still have. It was taken in late November/early December. Off charger is only about 19 hours but with 9% battery left which would easily get to 40 hours in stand by back then.
Great question mate. I thought i was the only one have similar issue. I had great or say exceptional battery life in December update or earlier. But as more and more updates came battery life decreased. I had almost 9 hours SOT but now after underclocking, greenify , servicly etc it harldy reaches 5.5 hours SOT. Earlier i hardly needed to underclock or needed any help of battery saver apps. I wonder wat it could be hardware issue or software.
And to answer your question i clean wipe my phone before any new updates twice to make sure m not have any issues due to previous software. And yes i take all that pain to backup my data n then setup whole 35gb+ data again every month.
It's probably overkill, but I factory reset every month when I get the security update. Since I've been doing that, I have not had problems with battery, or anything else for that matter. Can't say for sure that's why, but I'm a believer.

I'm not quite that diligent, but I'll do the full wipe and FR every 3 months to keep things clean. I don't have any issues either ??
I am on my second day of the April security patch and my battery life has gotten much worse. I got it launch day and I have always gotten 5-6 hours SoT for 18 hours off charge and still have 30% battery left. Yesterday I got 3.5 SoT for 18 hours and was at 4% when I plugged it in. I never had any adverse effect of battery life with the monthly patches until now. I havent factory reset since I bought the phone.
My battery life has gotten worse as well. It drains 10% hour just at idle. Mine was also incredible until the Feb-April updates. I'm considering doing a factory reset, or root it.

Sometimes I wonder if it's just the degradation of the battery in general like what's happened with the iPhone 6's and even 7s. If I could get a replacement for $25 I'd do it in a heartbeat. I would certainly try a factory reset at this point, I might even do it one day when I have the wherewithal to reinstall everything. But if you do it then run full stock for a day or so adding only the apps that you desperately need to function. Then if the battery life improves dramatically slowly start adding all the junk back in and see what happens.
I'd be curious to know myself but as I said I'm not at that point yet. Close though. I'd also run Better Battery Stats and see what kind of partial wakelocks and alarms you are getting. My fitness band drains a lot especially when active so I've taken to plugging in for a half hour when I'm done with the workout to give it a bump. Love the fast charge.

That's terrible. My phone has been off charger for the same amount of time and it's sitting at 99%. Email, browsing etc. You should get BBS https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 and try to figure out what is happening. Long OP but worth the effort.
PS. I'm on a Pixel 2 not the XL which has an even smaller battery than you do. I find that these devices (other than for root) are pretty much the same when it comes to things like this. Some have criticized me for cross posting but I really don't pay them much mind.

Batteries do degrade. That's just a fact. However, I don't think that's what's going on here. Battery degradation is something that happens gradually over a long period of time. It shouldn't be noticable after only 5 months even if you do things that accelerate it. Plus, since it is gradual it shouldn't result in a sudden overnight drop. Fine one day, do an update, much worse the next day.

Yes, you are correct it should take longer than 5 months. On my OG Pixel that happened after a year and it was slight. I really noticed it when my GPS completely just crapped out and Verizon sent me a refurb / new one (couldn't tell it was in great condition). But after that the battery life was back to when I first got it. I hope it's not the update that did this.
BBS does not need root. I've been running it for close to 2 years with no root on my 5X, Pixel and now the Pixel 2. There is a command in the OP I think it's in post #3 that has a command you enter in adb (no root $) that will give you all the statistics that root would give you. I believe its heading is something like: "If you don't have root..." If you can't find it let me know since I know it's a very long 3 or 4 OP posts.

Believe me I know. It's why I haven't done it so far.
The April update has severely impacted my battery life in a positive way. That said....I'd run in Safe Mode a day or 2 to see if that brings battery life back to par if I'm having issues before nuking with a factory reset.
I do a factory reset after any major update...and the April update was a major maintenance release so I did a reset. Before that, I did a reset in March (just because I had time off and was bored), and prior to that, I did a reset after I got my phone in December and it updated to 8.1 out of the box.
The April update seems to have improved my standby power draw a bit, that's about it. My battery life has been consistent since I bought it.

Does the ADB method do anything to the phone that would cause a warranty or insurance claim to be denied if it was detected? That's the biggest thing that keeps me away from rooting.

The April update has severely impacted my battery life in a positive way. That said....I'd run in Safe Mode a day or 2 to see if that brings battery life back to par if I'm having issues before nuking with a factory reset.

I haven't tried safe mode in years but I remember it doing strange things to my phone. I don't even remember what it did since it was so long ago I just remember a hassel getting back to normal usage after going back to normal mode so I've been hesitant to do it again.

Unlocking the bootloader doesn't not void your warranty. As far as root goes, if you fastboot a factory image, it'll completely wipe your phone and no one would be the wiser

The adb method will do nothing that can be detected or cause a warranty issue. Just delete the BBS app. At this point or for your issue I'm not sure what root will give you other than agita. I'm not a fan of safe mode either. It always caused weird stuff to happen. You can read this and they kind of confirm that 3rd party apps might cause issues. I'd just do a factory reset if you can't see what is happening with BBS.

Interestingly enough I decided to factory reset after the April update. My battery life was awful today after the update and was already about to die. I had 31% battery according to the phone before the reset. After I factory reset the phone turned on and read 51% battery. Just find that a little odd. Will see if battery life improves now and report back.
