Question Google Messages - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

Hey all,
I got my Fold4 a little over a week ago. The version of Google Messages on my Fold3 has a few additional features that are missing on the Fold4. The feature with which I'm primarily concerned is the reminder function. On the Fold3 I can long press on any individual message within a conversation and a little clock appears up at the top of the app. Tapping on the clock gives me the option to schedule a reminder to respond to the message. There is no such feature available on the version of the app installed on the Fold4. Anyone else missing this? I want it back.

I could be wrong, but I think this was a Samsung Messenger feature and not Google Messages. I just tried it on my S22 Ultra and Fold 4, neither worked in in google, but the long press both worked in the Samsung app.

I'm looking at both phones right now. I appreciate the input but, yes, you're wrong.

Copy that! In all fairness, I wasn't aware that this was a feature until tonight lol. Kinda disappointed I can't get the extra features in google too.

I'm pretty sure I've figured out the explanation now, but it still doesn't make good sense. The version installed on my Fold3 is "messages.android_20220822_05_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic" whereas the version installed on my Fold4 is "messages.android_20220822_05_RC00.phone_samsung_dynamic." The menu icon has changed from the Google Account Profile icon to the typical 3 dot button. When using Messages with the phone closed (just the front cover display), the conversations are shifted down lower on the Fold4's version, making it easier to reach the top conversation without using two hands. And there are a few other minor but convenient feature changes. But none of these changes should necessitate the removal of reminders. Screenshot of the reminder button on my Fold3 is attached.

I've also noticed the fold4 specific changes. I hate the new wasted space on the contact menu. I wonder if we can install the Fold3 apk on the fold 4.

I tried and was unsuccessful. I'm sure the Samsung-specific version of the app will be updated and fixed fairly quickly. Not sure what your talking about with respect to the contact menu. What the heck is the "contact menu?" If you're simply referring to the message list on the cover screen, I think the design/layout update makes sense. I can now reach the top conversation with my thumb when using a single hand.

Yes i'm referring to the messages list. I think It is a terrible design choice to force people to only be able to see 6 text messages at start. This should be a checkbox option.

I've hadn't have any issues sending timed messages. I know in the Google Messages version, after typing out your message, press and hold down on the send arrow and it lets you set a specific time to actually send the message.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about setting reminders for individual messages within a conversation. You're talking about scheduling messages to be sent automatically at a later time.

I disagree. It's a much better design. You can easily scroll down if you want to see more conversations.

It has to be removed via ADB, as it's a bundled app. Admittedly, I haven't yet tried that.

Use adb appcontrol. It's free and you can just disable it. It's a windows app.

Google finally fixed this issue with the latest version of the app.

WP7 Annoying Call Menu

Hi guys
Who else thinks that planning of making calls in WP7,
is very annoying to click a button (marked in red picture) to open a menu specially Speaker
What do you think?

For over 3 months this never annoyed me honestly.
Hasn't annoyed me yet either but i just got my phone this week. I was thinking of a better way they could have done it but all of my ideas have pluses and minus just the same so guess we got what we got.
No issues here... has worked fine for those time when I need to speaker phone it or use the keypad.
not annoying. it's a minimal design, so why have those options always display if you don't always need them?
Not happening here
I don't use speaker as much so it's no biggie, nor do I often use the keypad during a call, though I do sometimes. But overall it isn't THAT annoying, just a little.
I use the speaker about 50% if the time and I whole heartedly 100% agree with the OP. Its a pain to have to hit that little button every time
it doesn't ruin the whole experience for me, but it is pretty annoying.
<3 hTc
If I want something from the menu, it's not too much hassle to have to click, and what's even better is that thanks to hTc's Attentive Phone app if i want the speakerphone, i just put the phone face down on a surface and the speaker automatically activates. Simples.

Agree. I think that's actually a pretty good design, however I find it clunky. The buttons should be at the bottom, and I do think some obvious functionality like speaker phone should not require you to click twice. That's just my opinion.
TBQH, I much prefer the Galaxy S (Vibrant) dialer interface. It makes more sense.
But there isn't much wrong with this...
There is a point where you can take minimalist so far that it actually starts to impede on usability. This is one of those cases, IMO.
No problems for me either. I actually dig it because it allows you to tap the screen and perform tasks in the background. Alternatively, it allows you to look at whatever screen you were looking at before the call was made or received. e.g. you went into a specific profile under People, you're still able to see their contact info such as email if you were to email something to that person.
Even if those soft keys were available immediately when the call became active you'd still have to do some kind of multi-step process to accomplish some other task you wanted to do on your phone.
Frankly, I'd rather have the information I was looking at prior to when the call came or when I initiated the call, still immediately available to me. All in all seems pretty efficient to me for viewing information.

The dialer app multi tasks. There no excuse for hiding 4 options under a button - none whatsoever. You can simply home out of it and look at the entire page, or even use your data connection unless you're unfortunate and have a CDMA phone...

So you'd rather have the dial pad hidden instead? Or is everything going to be placed out in the forefront? There's only so much screen space, though I guess it could work. I'm looking at the Galaxy S and it looks ugly as ****. Screw that mess, I'd rather have the stuff I was looking at available for viewing in the background then a damn num pad.

It's not shown by default for the same reason battery and signal aren't shown on the start screen. Much cleaner look without the buttons showing. No need to always have them showing.

What's up with Message+ texting as default and...

So Sammy or Verizon made this the default texting app. I'm not liking that I can't even set an individual text alert sound per contact. I even went into contacts, added the extra field "Message Tone" and selected a unique one for given contact but always defaults to same stupid sound for all texts from all contacts. doh
Do I have to go 3rd party app to get what I want?
Nope. I disabled that crap and am using the real message app. It's there...
Same here. disabled and using samsung messages

This is definitely a Verizon App and I'm uninstalling and turning off as many of them as I can. I don't even want to their cloud.
Thanks for the replies. Didn't even realize it was a damn Verizon bloat app. Going to go back to "Chomp SMS" I think.
I think it has some great features. such as being able to text on wifi if there is no signal. if someone send you a link it gives you a preview of the site before the need to click on it. it also handles pictures that have been sent back and forth very nicely. I could go on but check it out.

I was just going to say this. The vzw app is really nice. I have it on my Note 12.2 tablet too. Wifi texting is awesome. It's also integrated with glympse, which is so incredibly useful. my wife and I use it all the time.
Just because it's made by Verizon doesn't mean it's some hellishly crappy battery sucking phone melting app
I started using it last week. I discovered it by accident. It allows me to install it on my computers, my N7, and my phone. I can text from any of these devices and receive texts on all of them.
It is missing some of the cool functionality of the Samsung stock app, but it is definitely worth having. It's kind of like what Apple did with their "being able to text from phone, iPad, or Mac" thing.
Thats kind of cool.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/products/verizon-messages.html
If it works then I could stop using MightyText to text from my computer.
Cool will check this out, thx! I use handcent and pay $9.99 for the gold plan to backup all my mms/sms and can use on ipad, windows to text a year. Will check out verizons app more!
: )
Reporting back and it isnt the prettiest or hardly customizable at all but it works and honestly no complaints. Putting Textra and Mightytext sms app sync on the backburner while I try this out.
I installed the update in the google play market for this app and it allows much more customization with fonts, colors, backgrounds, list types, chat bubbles.
First Verizon App I like and use lol. Saying it here.:good:

It allows individual sounds for different people.
Other than that its texting that works through wifi and my pc.
OK, that desktop app is pretty cool. On my iMac (OSX Yosemite) it wants access to my contacts, then my phone number, then sent me a text with a code that I popped into the app and wham! All my texts are now on my desktop app. Thanks for the heads-up!
BTW - I am still using the default Android text app on my phone and not the Verizon Message+ and I still seem to get the full functionality, so you can have the best of both worlds. One caveat - My Android contacts were not shared on my iMac so some of the desktop app messages show only the phone number and not the contact name. Looks like it is time to synchronize!
:good:
Wow, what a surprise that this app is actually worthwhile. I'm not sure I'm curious enough to stray away from Hangouts though, I get a lot of use out of that app. If only verizon would allow wifi texting to 3rd party apps.
Is it a battery/cpu hog? I'm hesitant to believe this is a well constructed app

Is the "cloud" texting intuitive enough to justify jumping ship from hangouts? I'm really torn here.
Honestly. Just use it for a whole day.
Only disadvantage I see is that its not as polished and if your friends are using hangouts then it might not work.

remove "group messaging" warning?

Is there a way to remove this warning about "group conversations being sent as multimedia messages'? Like, i get it, you don't need to warn me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I use group conversations frequently. In fact, I'd say half of my text conversations are part of groups. I've had the phone for a little while now. I think its safe to say that I don't need this little pop up anymore. is there anyway to remove it completely?
THANKS!

Yours is showing the same configuration as mine. Did you change anything in settings at all?
I use Hangouts and I haven't seen any group conversation issues.
Let me try stock messages and see if I get some issues.
Edit: just tested group messaging to 4 people and did not get a pop-up at all.
Are you with AT&T carrier? Did you change any settings relating to texting or MMS? Can you try Hangouts and send a group message and see if anything pops up?
Yeah, I'm with ATT. Didn't change any settings. I just got the phone about a week ago.
Will try Hangouts ...

The reason I ask to try Hangouts is because it's a different app and it would allow me to know if the same problem persist on that app too. If it does then we can try other solutions to fix the problem.

I'm on att and other apps don't do it. Samsung messages is the stock messaging app built into the note 4
One more thing before we try these solutions...
Are you both on 5.0.1 Lollipop or 4.4.4 Kitkat?
What version of Messages are you both on? Mine says version 1.0.0.
Here's some solutions...
1st solution:
In Messages app go to settings and click on the 3 dots at the top right corner of the app. You'll see Restore default settings. Click that and then exit the app. Go back in and try to see if that popup persist.
If it does persist then let's try this...
You have a choice of losing all your conversations or not. If you don't care about losing it then skip the backup steps.
2nd solution:
Go to the Play Store and download an app called My Backup. There is a Pro version if you want to buy it. I have the Pro version and have used it for 3 years now.
In My Backup click New Backup. Then click Data. Then click Local. Check the boxes for SMS and MMS then click Ok. Then you'll see another box asking if you want to rename the backup. You can rename it or use what it has shown as the date of the backup. Click ok. This will save all your conversations.
Once it is done go to the phones Settings. Click on the Application tab then click on Application manager. Swipe to ALL. Scroll down to Messages. Clear the cache and data and then Force Stop the app.
Exit out of the settings and open up Messages app. Make it your default app then do a group text test. See if the problem persist again or not. If it doesn't then great. You can go back to My Backup app and click on My Backups. Click on Data. Then Local and restore your conversations.
If the problem persist then report back and we'll try something else.
I am on stock 4.4.4 Kitkat. The messaging app is the stock "Messages" that comes on the phone. It shows Version 4.4.4-N910, which is the same code for the Samsung Note4.
When i go into the Message app, click on the settings 3-dots, are restore to default, i STILL get that little popup. It remains. I have even rebooted the phone, and it remains. using Hangouts does NOT have any popup warning.

Android Pie and Android Messages Missing Profile Pictures on Notifications

On Android Pie with Pixel 2 XL... just did a full factory reset as well. On Android Messages when I get a text message, the notification for it both on top of screen along with on the lockscreen does not show the profile picture for the individual that sent the message. Are you only talking about within the Android Messages App? I am referring to when a new text message comes in and either in the notification area when you pull down the notification bar or if you are on the lockscreen and can see the new text message there. In both of these areas, the senders profile picture is just a Letter instead of their picture.... but if i go into Android Messages app and view the thread, all profile pictures are shown with no issues.

Mine is doing the same thing. I have not factory reset it though as I can live without the profile pics coming up in the notifications. Hopefully it'll get fixed with a messages app update.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about - the notification bar shows the Other Person's profile picture, but not mine.
Same problem here. Quite annoying. My OCD is going to get triggered with this.
Lol same here. My OCD is what triggered this post. I had issue on dp5..took ota to stable pie and still have. Already did a factory reset with no luck. Issue also happens if I use Pulse for sms so it's not specific to Android messages. Seems to be Pie bug...or maybe something with contacts app? Also my wife with original pixel has it as well after Pie ota..and buddy with Pixel 2 XL has too... Cannot figure this out. Also seems others do not have this issue which baffles me. Any help to figure this out would be amazing!

Not receiving notifcations/Receiving them late - Note 10+/Exynos

Hey guys.
I have been using this phone for a number of days, and it seems like ever since I activated a battery saving option which I can't seem to single out, I stopped receiving notification when the phone is locked and/or I'm receiving them with a delay. receiving
I'm also having a problem with things that requires the phone to have an active data/wi-f- connection when locked, like WhatsApp Web or Google photos backup.
There is no data/wi-fi saving or limiting option enabled. I specifically added gmail, whatsapp and other app that I wish to receive lock notifications from to the "Not optimized" list.
I'm attaching my battery settings screenshots for reference.

I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks.
This issue is old for like 2 years now.
Happening in my note 8, 9 and now 10.
Not a single solution that will work.
I'm having the same problem. Never had it before
Follow these steps! I found my Zedge app that controls my custom notifications in the 'Sleeping Apps' container. Once I removed the app, all my notifications started working again.

I have Zedge installed but I didn't give it notification access. Your link is wrong :silly:
I had a similar issue with delayed notifications on my S10+ and turning off Adaptive battery helped. You can also try that and pls do post back if it helps. Thanks.
Having the same issues here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/help/apps-updating-phone-t3962558
It looks like disabling Adaptive Battery helped a bit, but it is still not perfect. In addition, I don't understand why adding the specific apps to the "Not Optimized" list does not affect anything.

Sorry about that errant link to Fantasy Football.
Here is the link to follow to remove Apps that Adaptive Battery settings put in 'jail' so they won't ever run in the background.
Promise its not Fantasy Football but steps to help fix notifications/slowness
I don't think it's anything to do with adaptive battery.
If you go into the developer menu and down to the bottom there is an option standby apps. Once in there you'll see apps listed, if they're set to ACTIVE they are allowed to do what they like. Even with full battery optimisation set Gmail is always ACTIVE and is still having issues. I think it's actually an issue with the phone going into some kind of standby mode. Sometimes it does and therefore notifications are off and sometimes it doesn't and everything is fine.
I tried everything mentioned here and it seems to work for about one day and then the delay was back (especially in WhatsApp).

Further to this, it doesn't seem to be an issue when the device is charging so presumably thats keeping something alive.
This thread has been inactive for weeks but I think this problem still exists. A Google search for "lockscreen notification delay" brings up a number of reports from various Samsung, Oneplus and other Android users - but still no single solution.
For a while I did not even think I had the problem because it does not appear unless your phone is inactive for about 10-15 minutes.
The problem appears to have something to do with changes to Optimize Battery Settings not sticking.
I found a workaround but it has to be done everytime the phone is rebooted.
- Under Optimize Battery Usage make sure that Whatsapp,Gmail or whatever notification app is being delayed is NOT Optimized
- Use the ADB command "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable". This has to be done from a computer with the phone connected to it. Or if you have root you can run it directly from the phone using Terminal Emulator.
Somebody from the Oneplus forums has also created a Magisk Module that appears to work on Samsung phones. You can find it in post #65 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-notification-fix-100-t3865551/page7
Is this the only way to fix this or has somebody found a better way?
At first, when I downloaded, installed, put the accounts, and all pertinent stuff, I observed this problem, no mails and no whatsapps until waking the device, or worst, had to enter the apps, but, I found the above solutions/steps, and, everything is working fine since Sept 13th, no delays, all working fine, even battery life is really good
I've got the issue only when activating moderate power save.
I set none app in the optimise wishlist.

The moderate power save also caused issues with late notifications on my device. I've only turned it on to test it but even after putting back to optimised and/or high mode did not rectify the issue. Somehow, few days later, I've managed to correct it but I've done so many changes that I've no idea how or what fixed it.
I had this issue on my S10 + to particularly with whatsapp! Messages would come in delayed or i just wouldnt get the notification for some reason! I never figured it out unfortunately but thankfully it seems to be ok on my note 10 + which is strange because i literally have this device set up EXACTLY the same as my S10 + in terms of settings etc ! If i remember correctly however, My S10+ didnt have this issue at the beginning!
