Question Origin keyboard and other issues - iQOO 9

Good morning you good people.
So I pulled the trigger on the 9 pro and purchased without realising that it was the origin and not the fun touch os I bought. It runs well enough but there are certain things that are getting on my nerves.
Firstly I can not get any launcher to stop as a default for a long time. I go into permissions etc and set as default but after a while it just reverts back to origin.
Secondly the keyboard is doing my nut in. The English input method still has Chinese in there and if you decide to search on Google the keyboard lag is pathetic (space bar input is not existent).
I want to love this phone as the hardware and quality is top notch but after a week I may class it as a loss and sell it for a loss.

After installing another launcher (I recommend Nova) and setting it as default in Nova settings, you can additionally disable the original launcher using, for example, ADB AppControl.
You can also change the keyboard app to a different one. Nothing limits you.

I am a bit of a ham fisted goon so that appcontrol may be hit and miss lol.
What keyboard would you recommend as play store is pants. Lol

I advise against keyboards from outside the google store. There are a huge number of keyboards in the google store. Try the two big players:
Gboard - the Google Keyboard - Apps on Google Play
Fast and smart typing with Emojis, GIFs, and more
play.google.com
or
Microsoft SwiftKey AI Keyboard - Apps on Google Play
AI keyboard from Microsoft, now with ChatGPT and GPT-4 access from Bing
play.google.com

my main ubertips are..
replace stock music player for 3 (cubed)
replace stock texting for handcent
get the 3d gallery apk
get xiialive lite
get beamwidgets torch widget apk
use the stock Power Control widget
install the voice to text with keyboard apk (post #38)
install the text to speech updates (TTS Extended) from the market (goes on ur SD card
install google translate which utilises the above
get hypnotic spiral & new scientist apps
additions:
looking for a remote control for your PC?
MultiRemote works fast & functional with your mouse & VLC, winamp etc (also custom)
be sure to check out the accelerometer mouse control
Snowstorm weather widget works brilliantly here, I was sick of the stock weather app that tells me if it sunny now or raining, but to get a forecast was like getting water from a stone. This app uses a good data source and works very very well for all conditions.
Replace the stock keyboard with the HTC_IME modded keyboard, its the same but 10,000 times better
and last but not least..
definitely get AppBrain to replace the standard market app (and post ur complete applist HERE in this thread c'mon!)
anyone else got some killer apps or stock replacements include here in this thread
replace stock keyboard with swype
http://rs55.rapidshare.com/files/37...-WVGA-trial-release.1.16.12.5228.2.19-fix.rar
Know of a replacement for power control widget that takes up less space by any chance?
How do I go about getting the music player (cubed) I cant seem to find it on the market....
Search for abrantes might help
Worked out how to get the music player app, have to go through appbrain. My first thoughts using it were wow. It is such a nice music player and it'l even find your album art for you (which I have seen there are paid apps on the market for but this includes it free). The whole interface is very nice and I would definatly recommend it. Nice find OP.

I have installed this keyboard but cant seem to set it as the default one to use. How do I do that. Under settings and keyboard I dont see the option for Swype. There are swpye settings but I cant choose the swype keyboard as the one to use.
long click in an input field (f.e. browser), then you may choose swype? try that
Excellent, thanks.
great thread will try out a few
Not sure if I like Swype yet or not. It is kinda hard to type sometimes because it doesn't seem to pick up words, and it's really slow on manually typing. I can't type "still" on it! lol. Comes up as "Stol" Wtf is stol? Think I may be going back to the normal keyboard. This is a pretty good list though! Thanks! I had some of them, and added a few new ones too.
My pleasure guys, I love sourcing top notch soft/freeware so its only fair to spread the word.
I liked the idea behind Swype, it really works so technically I'm absolutely astounded by it. But I like to type the word, it just didn't feel comfortable for me to swipe the word. So I'm back to the stock keyboard with haptic feedback for now till something better comes along.

Look on the Swype website, they have videos on there on how to use it effectively.
For double-letters you basically circle the letter, or simply go out and return.
Well, I am going to keep Swype on there for now. No harm in having options for input methods. Will play around with it here and there and see how it goes.
My little tip - don't install the Playlist Alarm app. It will keep the phone in PartialWake state 100% of time (checked with the battery usage tool) and the result is very poor battery life.
I was charging every day and was starting to worry about the battery quality.
However, once I uninstalled it my battery life increased dramatically.
Thank you very much for the advise! I would give you my advise, but I don't think it would help anybody since the Desire is my first Android phone and I have had it for a few days.
Keep the good tips coming!

Instead of Swype consider using SlideIT keyboard. IMO a lot better and with multi-language support, which, at least for me as a Finnish citizen, is very important. Can be found from Android market as well.

Keyboard doesn't play sounds anymore!

Hello everyone! I just got my One X on Monday and so far I'm pretty happy with it, despite some small hiccups due to the first version of the SW.
Today I have installed an alternative camera app from the Market (Lg Camera Pro) and I turned off in the options the sound of the shutter. Guess what? The HTC stock keyboard stopped playing its sounds eversince, and no matter what I do there is no way to have them back. I have also uninstalled the Lg Camera app, but to no avail.
My idea is that the app has somehow overwritten some system file and as a result the keyboard is now mute. But is it possible, considering the handset is not even rooted yet?
Any ideas are very welcome.. if I don't find any other solution I will have to go for a full reset.
I have a heap of iPhone mates that I wish could find this LG app you mention. They all sit there in the room, going tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick on their phones while txting...sounds like a bloody stenographer's convention!
Sorry, I have no answer to your problem, but I am glad people around you are enjoying the silence

How about your screen lock / unlock? Is the sound still on? If doesn't then try to install some sound manager apps (ex: Audio manager) and check the volume level for system.
Awesome tip OP! A way to remove annoying keyboard sounds, will apply it if I get this phone and trial it on other devices.

You can always disable the keyboard sound via the keyboard setting menu. Most of the HTC device come with keyboard sound turned off.
I normally use the keyboard on mute, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I should be able to turn the sound on if I wish to do so!
Anyway I had to do a factory reset from recovery to have it back. Thanks to all.
Best tip I can give you : go to vip.swiftkey.net, sign up for the beta and download free Swiftkey 3.0 beta!
The keyboard is amazing compared to any other keyboard and since it's beta it's also free ;-)!

It's an entirely different way of typing. Swype is faster because you don't have to remove your finger from the keyboard (at least not that often).
Swiftkey is faster because it predicts words insanely well, if you write "I'll be there in 5 min" for example it will suggest "be there in 5 min" after you write I'll.
It's a very intresting piece of software which learns what you type the most and how you type it.
Also the new beta even adds spaces between words if you have forgotten it (check video in the thread in VIP section of swiftkey for example).
I tried Swype, Swiftkey, SlideIT, stock keyboard, Sense 4.0 keyboard and I still love Swiftkey the most. At the start it isn't that great but when you use it a few days it becomes 10x better (because of the "learning" of the software).

Mi6 strange problems

Hello
im new to Xiaomi, used samsung s2 & s5
So far i have strange problems - maybe its because i used only till 6.0.1 ver
mostly i play Lineage 2 revolution and pokemon go on it.
so far:
1. even after i locked lineage2 and pokemon , they still restart if i switch for even 10 sec to whatsapp/facebook/cantacts/sms
2. while charging with Type C charger (samsung type C) my screen gets really but really sensitive... if i try to dial 1 tap on a number show me like i pressed 10 times. i have no idea where to buy original Xiaomi charger ( not the fake crap from Aliexpress and Ebay) and this means i cant use my phone while charging at all.
3. when i lock screen, change app or other basic things, my music volume jumps up and down - as i listen to metal - this isnt very fun ;/
4. im used to keyboard of Galaxy s5 6.0.1 and i dont use auto correct. now i got 2 keyboards: google and swift, both really different without option to cancel autocorrect
and the red annoying underline is just really annoying. and i cant seem to find the keyboard in app store.
5. while playing Lineage2 and walking on the street with the sun on me, my screen colors change into weird weak colors. when i get into a room, darker place or no sun - everything get back to normal
6. cant make apps shortcuts to have few icons of the same app. cant find a way to do it.
any of this problems have a solution? cause this is an amazing phone and this 6 things bother me, making me think i bought a broken phone or something
thank you in advance

1. Go to apps and then under those two apps make sure battery optimisation for those apps is off. Then they can run normally. MIUI is set to kill apps in the background. Annoying but can be adjusted.
2. You need to try a stock charger. Was the phone second hand? Buy a decent third party charger somewhere. With Stock charger I can use phone and charge no problem.
Could be a warranty issue...
3. Not sure about this. There is a reported issue with headphone volume on Mi 6 since latest version even in the new betas. I'm hoping this gets fixed by next stable release and if not we need to start hammering Xiaomi to fix this.
4. I use Google. Some people like swift. Play around and try all the keyboard on the play store etc and see if you find a new one you like. Maybe the Samsung one can be found here on XDA for other devices?
5. That's a clever mechanism which you actually benefit from. It allows the screen contrast to be raised and so you can still see the screen in bright lights that dark colours would not show under.
I don't think that's something that can be turned off unless you disable auto brightness? Maybe try manually adjusting brightness to avoid it.
6. Can you elaborate? You want dual apps your you want more than one icon for a single app?
Try another launcher such as Nova launcher. Much more flexibility.
Dual apps can be found under settings to have two instances of the same app.
I hope that helps and yes Mi 6 is a very good device with only a few issues and they're mostly forgivable as the value for money is phenomenal

Hmm I'm not sure about the multi tasking then...
Keep fiddling you might get it to work.
You should just use whatever the stock charger was but if that's causing the problem try a third party charger. Doesn't have to be expensive but don't get a cheap one. Get one that will protect your expensive phone
Keep trying the audio options. Some of the enhancements are good. Some sound like sand bags in my ears haha
Definitely try another home screen launcher like Nova Launcher. The Xiaomi launcher is pretty but has literally not functionality and reminds me of iOS. Then you'll be able to add as many short cuts as you like!

4. Have you manage to fix? is swiftKey the app you are talking about? I use it as well and manage to turn that stupid auto-correct feature in day 1. A quick google revealed the steps for you to follow: https://support.swiftkey.com/hc/en-us/articles/201592021-How-do-I-turn-off-SwiftKey-Auto-Insert-Predictions- PS: in case you are talking about other app...then I suggest you give this one a try.... I used it for very long time and it just does the job very well...you can customize the color and size easily
EDIT: 6. check in widgets if the app you want to make a shortcut has something already available, otherwise....just install a 3rd party app, like the other user suggested, Nova or so
I don't quite understand his problems :silly:

Anyone having odd Samsung Keyboard errors?

Ever since the update to One UI 2.1 where I think the Samsung Keyboard got updated, I've been having horrible typing experience. The word prediction and auto-correct are broken. Example, I am trying to type "Pork" and it auto-corrects to "Prom"
Yes!... For some reason I keep getting "ication" just added at total random. I've even cleared the keyboard and reset it. Not sure why

They updated it to be able to write in multiple language without having to switch.
But i agree, i got some issue like suggesting a single word with the same but with a second word "br" after, which is none of any kind.
After some "practice" though, I got less strange things.
Mine was completely unusable and had to go to Gboard for now.
Sam sung keyboard errors are difficult to overcome

How is it better on Gboard? It states on Google playstore: "Multilingual typing – No more switching between languages manually. Gboard will auto-correct and suggest from any of your enabled languages."
I hate having suggestions from both languages at the same time, even though I switch between them. I wish there was a fix for it.

Well, it takes one click on the 'globe' to switch between languages, suggestions come for the current language only, and while not perfect, Google offers a far better and closer suggestions to what I try to type than Sammi keyboard does. I do admit I haven't got Sammi a chance to improve, I type tons in my phone and can't be a their tester, not when I pay $1,000 on a phone..
Yes, I have troubles too either with French or English. I came back to my old "Swype+Dragon" keyboard - unfortunatly no longer available for new users.

Question P6P Keyboard Recommendation?

Hi all,
I have done some searching on this topic so forgive me for this post, but I am struggling with my P6P keyboard experience. The accuracy is so terrible. I have been using GBoard and also SwiftKey with the same results. It's so horrible! And I do use swiping and voice, but I'm not always in the mood or the position to use those and need a better keyboard. I did set the keyboard height to extra tall but still horrendous. It was even bad (not as bad) on my Oneplus 7 Pro. The ONLY thing I like about my work iPhone is the keyboard typing!
If anyone has other apps or tips/tricks that seem to jive with the P6P, that would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I was on SwiftKey for years. After MS purchased them they went to crap. I've been on Google Board for a year+. It has been fantastic. It probably has to learn the way you type. Give it some time. It probably has to learn the way you type.
Make sure your settings are correct to remember what you are typing and your operating system on data collection.
I like Gboard when the phone isn't freezing
Went from Swiftkey to Gboard and don't regret it. Swiftkey was so good once upon a time.
+1 exactly what the other two said.
Same with me. Was a Swiftkey fan until it got bloated crap. Switched to Gboard almost 5 years ago and love it.
The issues with the keyboard come down to this;
1) the space bar should be much taller to avoid hitting the bottom row of letters when reaching for it.
2) the screen isn't wide enough. A rebuild of the aosp keyboard could gain a few mm by trimming the edge of p, q, shift, and backspace, but what is really needed is for google to pull its head out of its ass and instead of having the display size growing into absurd vertical dimensions, widen it up!
Thanks for this feedback! Swiftkey was crap, and I tried OpenBoard which seemed decent but the swiping is terrible for the times I switch to swiping. I went back to GBoard which seems to be the best option. I will play around with the setting maybe.
Thanks all!
