What charger for the Galaxy Tab S

Hey guys !
I just bought an Galaxy Tab S (8.4) from eBay but it came without any charger/cable.
As it is a Micro USB port, there's no real problem, I have literally tons of usb chargers available.
The problem is that most the chargers/cable I used only charged the battery at a 0.3A rate (measured with an USB voltmeter + battery app).
I know that the original charger was 5.3v 2A. I tried with some powerful 5.0v charger (3.0A/Quickcharger 3.0 compatible from Anker) but no luck so far...
Is there a specific charger/specs know to work well with this pad ?

I'm using this aukey 3.0 compatible wall charger and so far it's charging as expected

How fast does it charge ? I only get 0.3A with this charger, which charges really slow...

0.3A is 300ma i am surprised the battery charges at all at that low rate, My 10.5" draws 1700ma from my third-party chargers according to my usb monitor, I have managed to charge it as low as 1000ma from my notebooks usb port, but you need a charge only cable as a data cable will not charge at all.

charging issues with most chargers

Every charger i use chargers my pixel xl super slow. I've used the note 7 oem charger, choetech fast charger, aukey fast charger, etc. The only fast charging i can get it with the pixel charger. Anyone else dealing with this?

From what I've heard neither the Pixel nor Pixel XL support quickcharge or adaptive fast charging. They use something called USB POWER DELIVERY for fast charging, this is the technology that allows generic USB-C chargers to output 100W of power when charging USB-C compatible devices like the new macbook pros or the Chromebook Pixel. So unless u use another charger that support USB power delivery you shouldn't be able to fast charge your Pixel phone.

It has been hit or miss for me. If I use an adaptive fast charger that came with a note7/s7edge I will always get the charging rapidly indicator but charging can be dreadfully slow to somewhat quick.
I am assuming your device will show "charging rapidly" with the Samsung chargers?

To fast charge with the pixel or Nexus phones it has to be a USB c to USB c cable with the adapter being a USB c one. Not USB c to a.

I get rapid charging from my Nexus 6 charger and a USB A to USB C cable. I don't believe it's as fast as the Pixel charger, but it works well enough.

As others have stated, the Pixel uses USB TYPE C specification with Power Delivery. It does not and is not compatible with any other type of proprietary fast, quick, rapid charging methods.
You should be able to get 5v 2.4A using the Pixel's cable or any proper cable A to C cable with the proper 56k ohm resister

That's what I am using and can go from 0 to 100 in just a little over 2 hours. Same time with note 7 charger and cable.
Seems pretty fast for me

I wonder why the device reports "charging rapidly" when using a Samsung adaptive fast charger?

fast charging pickyness

I've had a nexus 5x before and own a pixel table. Both come with USB C port to charge. So i bought a itian qc3.0 charger at that time. (http://www.gearbest.com/chargers-cables/pp_389793.html)
Now i changed to the lg g6, but it refused to do the 'fast charging ' when i use that chargers qc3.0 port and even says 'slow charging' when connecting to the usb c output.
Is it the combination that's just flakey or did they put something specific in the original charger that comes with the lg g6?
I'm bit lost on the topic of chargers currently, anyone care to enlighten me on what should could would work?

I'm using the charger from my Nexus 6 and my G6 says that it's quick charging. Only QC 2.0 on that one though.

Works fine with my wife's charger from her Galaxy Note 4 as well. ? (Pretty sure that's a QC 2.0 charger as well.)

Does LG not provide a qc 3.0 charger with their own phone ??

Mine came with a MCS-H06UR charger.
Rated @ 9.0V 1.8A / 5.0V 1.8A
After a quick Google search I've had no luck ascertaining if this is QC 2.0 or QC 3.0.

From what I can tell, my phone charges as fast if not faster using the 5V/3A charger that came with my 6P.
From what I've read online, the LG G6 also supports USB-PD.

Off topic a bit. Thoughts on overnight wireless charging. I have a great charging cradle that I want to use but don't want phone to crack at night from hours of heat. Sony z2 and z4v had issues with that

Shouldn't really get hot once it's fully charged?

The charger that comes with it is a quick charge 3.0 charger and can completely charge your phone from zero in less than 2 hours easily. You have to use the cord that came with it though, or at least one that is compatible. If you look at the icons, you will see a different one than the usual charging icon. Pulling down the menu shows something about fast-charging when its active.
My experience comes from the Sprint version.

i use one from Tylt each night since im always on-call. havent had a problem once.

None of my QC 3.0 charger fast chagrge my G6. The QC 2.0 chargers do.

I've bought a Choetech wall usb charger, QuickCharge 3.0 with its usb type-c cable, and when I plug it on LG G6, it says that there's fast charging.

I do not believe the LG stock charger is qc qc 3.0 compatible because its fixed mat output at 9v is 1.8a
qc 3.0 defines the max amps at each voltage level from 5v to 9v to 12v
I ended up buying anker qc 3.0 chargers for my car and for ac wall outlet. also bought their nice braided usb c cable. every combination yields a fast charger notification in the drop down and the ampere app confirms this. also watching the real time output is impressive from all these chargers.
the benefit to using a certified qc 3.0 charger is that the phone will tell it exactly what amps to deliver based on charge & temp.
further, the G6 has a heat pipe to help cool the entire phone including the battery, to help prevent a galaxy note scenario.
wireless charging is slow Qi spec and is NOT fast like samsung. however, slow charging over wireless is great for overnight.
I use anker's qi charging puck and it works great except I have to remove my case. same with the samsung fast charger puck. my wife doesn't have to remove the case on her S7 to do regular or fast charging. LG's design is obviously inferior for the Qi to pickup and activate the coil.

and when LG G6 is connected it shows that is in fast charging mode.

Those who bought QC 3.0 charger and those who trying different cables with LG G6 charger, Try Cable from Oneplus 3, I get an improved charging of 10-20 minutes less compared to stock LG cable

The issue might be the cable you're using. I've had no trouble fast charging using an old ASUS QC 2.0 charger, or a cheap car QC 3.0 charger. Even when using microUSB cables with USB-C adapter tips, but I'm using decent cables (mostly Monoprice and Anker).

I've confirmed that the charger that came with my G6 is QC3.0 (model MCS-H06UR, UK 3-pin). Using a USB power meter, the voltage will increase from 5V to 9V in small steps. If I use a QC 2.0 charger (stock charger from Note4/S7edge), it will jump from 5V to 9V immediately.

How much time does it take to charge fully? Did you record time ?

Charging cables amp issue

I bought from Aliexpress about 15 charging cables for me and 2 of my friends ... all of us have S8+ phones
The cable's description shows 5V 5A cables for Huawei Mate 9 10 P10.
The issue is these cables are not FAST charging our phones as needed.
Are there any requirements for the fast charging cable other than the current rating?
My understanding is the Adaptive Fast Charging uses 9V 2A (18w) while the cables are rated 5V 5A (25w) which means the cable bought should be superior to what is needed.

Yes, they went bad. I buy cables from five below, and usually the type c 6ft works out of box. Then if you drop the cable so many times or do something, it stops fast charging. Now sometimes it doesnt work out of the box. Idk the construction behined the fast charge cable but the oringal samsung and more expensive dont seem to have this issue

Gemini PDA picky about USB-C chargers?

My Google Pixel or ASUS chromebook chargers don't seem to work unless the pda is off. I'm disappointed that this device didn't implement USB-PD and that I can't charge from either side. What's the point of a standard connector if you need a proprietary power brick. MediaTek Pump Express was a poor choice.

I agree. So plugging into your charger when the Gemini is off WILL charge it?
I have a USB-C charger in my truck, and I will say that when my Gemini is plugged in it will hold the charge at whatever level it's at. It won't charge it, but at least power won't be depleted. Still disappointing, for sure.

Yes, if my Gemini PDA is off-off, my Google Pixel USB charger does seem to charge it. I don't have any numbers, but I doubt it's using the higher voltage modes so it's probably a slow charge. The red charging light comes on after maybe a second. Same poor behavior using an Anker PowerCore+ 26800 USB-PD with J5 Create JUCX01 USB-C to USB-C cables (an expensive but highly regarded cable supporting 100W power delivery AND 10 Gbps transfers). My car's AOLIEKS 48W USB-C USB-PD cigarette lighter port adapter is also useless for the gemini PDA when using the 30 W USB-PD port with a JUCX01 cable. I'll try using the QC 3.0 USB-A port with Gemini-provided USB cable tonight.

I was adding a 6-outlet wall tap to the outlet near my bedside table today, and while consolidating chargers I plugged the Gemini's USB-C cable into the AUKEY 12W Dual Port Home Travel USB Wall Charger Adapter - Black charger I have. It charges the Gemini, whether it's on or off. Not sure about voltages or numbers either, but the Battery page in settings showed "Charging by AC" and the time remaining seemed pretty short.

There does seem to be some magic sauce with the included USB cable. Using that cable worked fine with my power bank, but not my car charger.

I've done some testing using a Pluggable USB-C meter (can't post links due to being new, it's on amazon).
Charging is only on the left port. (More on that later.)
Using the supplied charger + cable I get 8.8v at 1.35A (close to the 9v the charger has printed on the back, charger says it supports 12v according to the back but I guess the Gemini doesn't).
Using an Anker PowerPort+ (60w, one type-c and USB A ports) I get:
- Anker USB A to C cable: 5v (well, 4.78v), 1.8A
- Anker USB-C to C cable: Nothing. :/ (the pluggable adapter doesn't even turn on, presumably not seeing any negotiation to even turn on).
Also tried a few other USB C cables and power supplies (Apple, Chromebook) and they don't charge it or pass power.
While the left port is the only one that will charge, the Gemini will take power on the right hand port -- the amount varying by usage it seems (I've seen between 0.15A and 0.41A when worked hard), so presumably it is possible to take power from a hub which should mean the device stays alive for longer but won't charge.
I hope it's possible to add proper PD / type C charging in a software update, for me a huge advantage of type C is not needing to have different adapters for fast charging... (I'm a little confused because pump express claims to support USB PD on mediatek. c o m / features/pump-express (sorry mangled url because I can't post them...), not sure what that means in non-marketing speak as it obviously doesn't work).
Forgot to test with it turned entirely off:
- It does charge off the Anker USB-C charger via C-to-C cable, but only at 4.96v, 0.38A, i.e. you're going to be waiting a while for a charge. Makes me hopeful this is a software thing though.

...which does lead to an interesting trick:
Turn it off, plug it to the type C charger, then it will continue charging at a low rate while on. Could be useful if you forget the right charger (which is totally something I see myself doing).

But I had an LG phone that couldn't reliably charge from a MacBook Pro USB-C power supply--and it seems that charger can't charge my Gemini at all. Two rather mainstream companies that can't manage to implement a standard and make it work right, Gemini can't make it work at all, isn't unique in having problems, but clearly on the bad end...
Sounds like the USB-C standard is badly designed.
