Question Moto g60s root procedure - Moto G40 / G60

Hi, guys.
Does anybody know how to root moto g60s xt2133-1?
I mean, I looked for info on this forum but I cannot see any related topic about this device.
Or Am I missing something?.
I think it is all about g40 and g60 devices. I would like to know if somebody has rooted moto g60s and if any of you guys have the files needed to do such thing.
I 'd like to use a custom room like pixel or other just to give a try!.
Thanx in advance and have good day .

You can do it the way sd_shadow suggested. But I personally had no problems simply flashing the Magisk zip from a custom recovery. That should take care of the root, as well. That's about it.
So, in simple terms:
1. download Magisk.apk
2. rename it to Magisk.zip
3. flash it as a regular flashable zip from custom recovery
4. reboot.
Personally, I would not recommend rooting your phone unless you really need to. One of the main reasons for that is that banking apps and likely DRM apps won't work anymore. Yes, there are ways around that...but...if you don't need it, why make things complicated for no reason?

Hi, Do you have the same model?( Moto g60s xt2133-1 ).
I haven't done anything yet, I don't want to brick the cellphone.
To be honest i need root . I know that banking apps are not going to work and other apps related to payments.
I have rooted cellphones before but I need to be sure about the right files to do such thing.
Thanx bro. This comment helps me a lot.

Wait. No, this is not for g60s! This section is not for G60s. It's for G60 (xt2135-2). There is no custom recovery for g60s anyway.

, Hehe, that's what i m talking about, it looks like these models doesn't have some sort of support, what a sad story.
Those are the difficulties that I am struggling with.
Hope to see more info later o find a way to make a test..

I haven't done anything since i posted this due to lack of support and knowledge but as far as I know at least one guy has rooted his phone through the use of magisk. You can find him here at this forum, he posted something about upgrading android 12.

I´ve followed the next instructions in order to root my cellphone. motorola g60s xt2133-1. with android 12
then after bootloader unlock , go to lolinet and download the file that corresponds to your cellphone.
in my case:
lolinet mirrors - firmware, software, iso etc.
lolinet mirrors - powered by h5ai
mirrors.lolinet.com
I am using telcel service from Mexico so I choose RETAIL because I didn´t see amxmx (which corresponds to telcel) on the list.
I ´m using android 12 Compiled version : S3RLS32.114-25-1-3 (check about section in cellphone settings).
I downloaded this version.
LISBON_RETAIL_12_S3RLS32.114-25-3_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
extracted boot.img
then i followed the next instructions.
and that´s all.

Hello.
Why did you want to root the phone?.
Can you modify some system settings with root? Specifically the speaker volume, since Android 12 basically broke it (it's insanely loud).
Have you looked into downgrading to Android 11?
Thanks .

Well, I am the same guy ("Daneka" but unfortunately I forgot my password), I rooted my phone in order to do Mac spoofing and It Is working very well.
About the speaker volume as far as I know there are some apps capable of managing your volume settings but they require root .
Hope this info helps you.
My personal opinion Android 11 ,I think, it Is More Stable than 12 .

Root Sky Devices 5.0L "Elite" (with Android Lollipop 5.1)

I have just bought a Sky Devices "Elite" 5.0L (with Android Lollipop 5.1 stock firmware). I need to root it, in order to appropriately use Link2SD and remove a few pieces of software that came preinstalled. I have tried KingoRoot v4.9.5 (and some others) with no success: phone can't be root, yet.
Has anyone had success in rooting this model?
Thank you very much in advance!
Gabriel, from Buenos Aires, Argentina
Dont Root
DONT ROOT with KingRoot on Sky Devices or One Click they will soft brick and the device will only boot to the logo screen and freeze.
Update: KingRoot V4.9.6 android and V3.2.0 win, should work as they have address the issues with older versions.

Could you successfully root a Sky 5.0L "Elite" (with Android Lollipop 5.1) phone? With exactly which software / version? Just to be sure, bear in mind that KingoRoot is not the same as KingRoot.

I used KingRoot to root my platinum 5.0, with lollipop. I have BusyBox. I had no problems, and did it untethered. I had no problems with bricking.

I tried to root one using the latest version of KingoRoot but only succeeded in soft bricking it! Now it boots to the Sky Devices screen and hang there. I can boot into Recovery but need the proper ROM to revive the phone.
Can anyone help ???

Community development strength

You're a power user. Can the Huawei Mate 9 Pro keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Huawei Mate 9 Pro. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
This is a weak spot as it's no well known worldwide. Dev's are not too many and custom ROMs or even Official Updates are missing.
Official updates are excellent and fast since android 8 dropped. I usually get security updates the same month they are for. But it's true, no real custom rom development as of yet. Hopefully we get better sw once Project Treble compatible roms are available.
The Phone is good enough. Nothing spectacular. When I got the root sorted by using the Krom root, the phone is stable. I have high hopes and expectations for the resurrection remix ROM via the openkirin project, in my opinion the best ROM out there.

Would you please explain how did you root your phone with mentioned method (kroom root) ?
Do you think I will be able to root my phone Huawei Mate 9 PRO (LON-L29 8.0.0.378(C432)
I have been searching for root for a long time now, but I am very confused since there isn't really good community around this model.

Assuming you have unlocked the bootloader.
You can download Krom from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9-pro/development/kangvip-rom-b354-mate-9-pro-links-t3790605
When you unzip the rom files, you will find Run.bat Run that file and when it's time to install, you get to the install menu, you select option 2 instead of option 1. Your phone will then be rooted and reboot. Enjoy.

But in download section of kangvip roms the latest version of kangvip is m9pro... E.8..370, mine is 378 do you think it is going to be problem if I use that, or should I try to downgrade somehow?

Thank you very much for the support. I am still searching for the best way to get root to bypass safetynet. It seems like magisk root is best way to do so. I am also looking for twrp supports decryption, I might have found one I didn't try it yet. This is the link https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3783353

Well I guess I will not be able to root after all since I don't have the bootloader code. I contacted Huawei support, they do not promise anything but there is still a tiny hope.
I know there is options like DC unlocker etc but I didn't get / read any confirmation about that anyone have successfully rooted their mate 9 pro [No EXTERNAL SD double sim version (LON-L29)] with a DC given code.
In this point I don't know what to do. Even if if I somehow manage to get the bootloader code I still need to find proper magisk root method. Mate 9 pro has no good community unfortunately.
I know my next phone is gonna be root friendly device like One Plus 6 or Google phone etc.
I hate not having full control of my own device.

I'm with you on this one.
Owning this device has taught me a few life long lessons:
1. Buy a popular phone, more spare parts, cheaper repair
2. Buy a popular phone, more community support and custom ROMs
3. Buy a popular phone, cheaper, especially second hand, which I personally prefer
4. Buy a popular phone, got an issue? Someone else already solved it

To root the Moto G5 you need
An unlocked bootloader (goto moto bootloader unlock website if you haven't unlocked the bootloader)
TWRP recovery (if staying on stock use official twrp - if flashing a 64 bit rom eg anything android pie use an unofficial twrp)
Magisk
Flash magisk in twrp recovery - latest magisk can be found in the magisk thread below

Hi Devilman,
Yes basically that procedure should work, if you want a more beginner friendly step by step guide with everything from unlocking until root i hope my guide helps you (for Oreo). https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/how-to/root-how-to-flash-root-g5-opt-remove-t3884992
I used the older version of that guide your link refers to to root my phone on nougat, and the basic procedure is still the same, but a little things changed so my step by step guide hopefully saves you the three days I needed to get my phone to work on Oreo.
Best wishes and good luck!

Greetings @roberto_1986,
Your choice between A9 and A10 will summarize easily. Do you need one of the new features provided on A10 which was not present on A9 version? If you do not know or if you are not sure, then you dont need A10, stick to A9 for now. Less bugs, better performance and battery life. OS is more mature.
Now regarding rooting, on A9 Rom nothing as easy as pressing the root button under the LR TWRP (1104 version for A9 1210 for A10), then pressing the Closing AVB 2.0 button and you are done. From there you can update to latest stable version within the OS (do not use the beta ones, no point using those and it did not work for me). Works like a charm. I am on MIUI 11.0.2.0 (A9) EEA and never had any kind of issues using this method a few times. I never tried the A10 version of the LR TWRP so I have no idea if they offer the same option for rooting on A10 or not.
You can also unroot from that same LR TWRP in case that would be required at some point.
Hope this helps.

I am unsure if OFFICIAL TWRP 3.4.0 is meant for A10, I suggest you to read their its thread to see if people are using it on A10 or not. Personally I installed it yesterday on A9 and it saved my day restoring a backup made with some other UNOFFICIAL TWRP.
The UNOFFICIAL LR TWRP (chinese/english) which was released last year is the version which includes the rooting ability for A9 (and maybe for A10 too). OFFICIAL TWRP does not have such additional goodies since it is the OFFICIAL branch of TWRP.
You can check this guide using the UNOFFICIAL LR TWRP to root device, ALL steps you need to take to root your device properly are explained here. That's for A9, not A10.
[GUIDE][BEGONIA]Unlock Bootloader, Flash TWRP and Root[PROPER]
Note a quick search within forums would have probably leaded you there, try it next time, that's helpful feature of forums
As for the UNOFFICIAL LR TWRP (by wzsx150) thread for P and Q you can find it there:
[RECOVERY][begonia][UNOFFICIAL by wzsx150][P/Q]TWRP recovery for Redmi Note 8 Pro
Rooting A9 from the LR TWRP 1104 is guaranteed to work. That's what I used myself. As for A10 (Q) I have no idea, check/ask the thread.
Let us know how it turns out and you did to make it work.
Good Luck!

That's very wise not to install stuff you find from internet from unknown sources.
Not sure how you found that website, but I never heard of it or even seen it for the matter. I would not consider it safe myself.
I used to be able to download stuff from MiFirm which *looked* more legit but who knows.
You can find the required files from the xda threads I posted above, it may come from individuals, but I do consider it safer somehow because we have feedback from xda users. Back then when we installed those unofficial version there were not official support of any kind anyway so we kind of had to be 'advanturous'. I dont even remember from where I got mine myself.
Best I can do for you is to provide you with the checksums of the file I did use to root my A9 and reflashed not so long ago.
Code:
$ md5sum recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
e41bba28984f14ea56da98448cd2c17d *recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
$ sha256sum recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
8f203aec69f1ed021badac0f94d1906fcf0530f0e41beddcbc49652705c8731b *recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
This way whatever source you are getting the file from you'll be able to check it against my sums which will guarantee you got the same version I did use. However I cannot guarantee they are 'legit'.
Before you proceed any further, I want to stress you never told me the flavor of the phone you own. Mine is Global EU phone flavor running an original stock MIUI.11.0.2.0_A9_PGGEUXM. If own a Chinese flavor (ordered on Alibaba, Aliexpress etc etc) you need to be extra cautious for example as they tend to brick more from what I read.
I also remind you need an unlocked bootloader and I strongly recommend you to apply the Anti-Brick solution as described in my previous post. If you restored to stock image using MiFlash or SP Flash Tools it is very likely you need to reapply those even if you did it before. Best to apply them twice than none.
Hope this helps.

The Megathread is pretty much self explanatory for the Anti-Brick method, I cannot explain it any better than how it is explain there. Please refer to the link given in one of my previous posts and just apply the first part with flashing preloader.bin and lk.img as explained.
It will basically provide you with a safety belt in case you do anything wrong with your phone on A9 resulting in bricking the device, bootloop or whatever, so you can Flash stock back on using MiFlash / SP Flash Tool without having to need an authorized account.

This file might not be there, it is a file you have to delete to prevent OS to restore Mi Recovery 3 over your TWRP at reboot (making impossible to have TWRP stick on the phone).
In order to see that file you first need to mount 'system' in the options but as I said it is not always there.

As I said earlier, I have no experience in A10 (Q) problems as I am not willing to jump in there staying on A9 (P).
A10 benefits is not worth the risks to me. The Anti-brick method is well explained in the Megathread I posted the link few posts earlier, however, it's for A9 only not A10.
Looking at the lists of bugs still present on A10, I really see no point running A10 atm. But well anyone does what pleases him/her he he
Good Luck!

It used to pass before, at least it was when I first installed it. Then google made some updates and it is not passing anymore. I am not an expert about that, but I know there are some threads where people are talking about this particular thing.
What is it useful for?

I see.
No actually it was the other way around. When I first rooted in Feb it was passing both tests (green true).
Then one day after google made its changes it stopped working. But I only retro-graming so it is not so important for me.
Have you tried MagiskHide for the games you want to play with?
I cannot really help you with this further because I never tried to fix these myself not really needing to.
Anyway if you search Redmi Note 8 Pro forums you will see some other people are having the issue, at first I thought it was a A10 problem but probably is with the device.
Also you may found help in the telegram group REDMI NOTE 8 PRO OFFICIAL many gamers there I think.
Good luck and please let us know of your findings.

Question Custom ROM - moto G40 & G60

Dear all. Recently bought a G40F and ever since I was on the lookout for custom ROM support. more specifically, a well tested and "straight forward" custom ROM installation sequence. for a noob like me that's very important.
although Moto shares their kernel source code to custom rom devs, the ROM scene for G40/G60 is nowhere comparable to other phones like Poco X3. Im guessing thats because it's launched only in the Indian market(so far) and it hasnt attracted a lot of devs worldwide. well, its a shame tbh.
I have scoured the internet and was disappointed to find nothing of that sort. just a pile of generalized guides(beware of bricking) which is just copy pasted for every devices out there, probably for clicks and running ads. Yet, thank god I found this guy Selva Kumar A. He wrote a detailed guide and tested it on his own G40, and also has a guide if you happen to brick it.
once again, i am a noob and this would be my first custom ROM. So don't take my word for it. I am here reaching out to the community hoping to find better opinions and corrections to the techniques mentioned above. If any Devs reading this, please spare some time to evaluate this. bricking my phone is such a nightmare, but I want root access and try out some cool stuff.
Bootloader is not unlockable at the moment
Correct me if I'm wrong.
With an unlocked bootloader I can root the phone.
whereas for installing a custom ROM I should wait until a developer makes one that'd fit g40f, which also requires a unlocked bootloader
ERAAF said:
bro I'm guessing you're that youtuber no? Would you suggest I return this phone and wait until Poco x4 or something that'd have a big community support, hence custom roms n everything

As per my understanding, someone has to make a custom tailored rom to fit every model that's out there
Yeah , but bootloader's not unlockable right now!
Unlocking through adb , it says failed to load unlock data
Moto saif we are working to solve it!

Yeah already its there
50% build is already complete, rest needs an unlocked G40, if you somehow unlock BL of G40, reach Dev's through official moto G40/g60 Tlgrm group

Some tweaks needed but it needs the unlocked G40, if you somehow unlock BL , join thr tgm group you will get everything
