HTC U20 5G General Question - HTC U20 5G Questions & Answers

Good day to all, in the event to limit the posts I thought I roll it up in one. I just have a few questions regarding the U20 5G. I am currently on a Samsung S21 on T-Mobile and hit a road block on root/unlocking. My previous device was a HTC u12+ and up until the screen completely shattered it was my phone of choice. Looking to relive some of the old HTC nostalgia I was wondering a few things:
1. Does the U20 5G work well on US carriers? I am on T-Mobile and see the U20 supports a few LTE/5G bands but does anyone have any US carrier experience?
2. Can the U20's bootloader be unlocked and can the device be rooted? I have read a few posts and it was a mix of yes and no. I was hoping the HTCDev Bootloader unlock tool still works and I can root with TWRP/Magisk.
3. Is HTC still supporting the device and providing updates? One of the problems with the U12+ was the lack of OTAs and firmware availability.
4. Does anyone know a site where we can download OTAs and firmwares? (Assuming HTC dropped development and for recovery)
Many thanks in advance and look forward to the responses.

[Q] HTC one xl

Hi all,
I have an HTC ONE XL, its Australian on Telstra but not network locked.
Its not listed here, but I'm told its an X but with LTE hence the L
Ive rooted a wildfire s before n was thinking of doing this phone, tossing up between root this or buy a newer phone.
My question is, if I follow the procedures for an X, as in here on this forum, if I root, will I lose my LTE capability?
Anyone recommend any great ROMS?
cheers

[Q] Dual Sim Variant

Hi All,
I was just looking for some assistance as I am interested in the dual sim variant of the HTC one M8.
I have been searching the web and can see that it is stated to have been launched. I have also noticed there are 2 threads here relating to rooting it.
The 2 questions I have are:
1 - Where can I buy one from?
2 - Would it be better to get the Chinese or European version to works properly in Australia.
I have also seen that there is another Dual Sim variant to be released next month that is marked as LTE-A. Is there any reason to wait for this variant or with mobile services in Australia I will not see any benefit.
Thank you all for your assistance and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Hi! I bought it from microspot.ch
I don't know which frequencies you are using in Australia but the advantage of the European version is the non-existing Chinese apps
Compare the stated frequency support to what your carrier uses in the lists linked below.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks#Oceania
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Oceania
Thanks all.
Have you been able to root the Chinese one and remove the non existent apps?
So... It seems no real advantage between the Chinese and European version.
Does anyone know any details about the LTE-A Dual Sim coming soon?
Sent from my One Xl using Tapatalk
I got in contact with microspot.ch and they will not deliver outside of Switzerland. Also, I do not think they have any stock.
Are there any tricks to get deliveries outside of the EU or does anyone know of any other places to try?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

HTC 10 in Japan, ok for root?

I am living in Japan and I definitely want to buy the new HTC 10.
I am concerned thus that I could have problem to root it or unlock the bootloader since it's my first time to buy a phone here in Japan, not sure if that could be a problem.
I was considering to ask my friend to send it to me from UK, to have a European version.
What do you guys think? Would it be fine if I buy it here then root it as I always did?
Thanks in advance!
In Japan, too, and will be snapping this baby up hopefully when Au releases it in June (my guess, based on past summer releases and what I have seen on HTCsoku). I've had no issues unlocking and getting s-off on HTC phones (Desire then the M7, my current phone) here in the past, so I don't see why we'd have any issues this time. Hopefully, we'll get some joy from Sunshine soon enough and can find out for sure.

I was a bit concerned as I own a UK M8 now with a BiCSim provider sim card, but it seems like I cannot get a 4G signal, as I don't have band 1 unlocked on this phone.
For this reason I was a bit worried, you never know...
Just out of curiosity, what kind of ROMs are u flashing on your HTC? I mean, is there a thread specifically made for Japanese phones/ROMs?
Thanks again!
No probs. It's early days yet for everyone, things being tested, guides being made, so keep an eye on the forum. Very few people even have the phone at this point, and we are still at least a month away from Japan release. Be patient, grasshopper.
I have TWRP and still have stock on my old M7. Was easy-peasy. As far as Japan-specific phones go, in the past they have basically just been one or two sub-threads within the particular phone's forum. There are a few XDA folk based in Japan, but not so many HTC users - who knows, I haven't fiddled with my phone for almost two years, so there may be more these days). Best idea is to keep an eye out here and on local HTC fansites (like HTCsoku, as I mentioned - you might need Japanese ability to get the most out of them, mind you).

HTC in Japan
Also living in Japan. I have the HTC One rooted with Android Revolution HD 92.0 installed. I have a Rakuten Mobile sim card and LTE works fine (when available which is not at many places).
I am also planning on buying the HTC 10. I haven't yet found the detailed differences between the different versions but the Asian version may be preferable to the European version (at least that's what I decided for the HTC One).

How reliable do you think it would be?
There are no reviews yet and I am scared it might be as scam...

True, I checked also on the amazon UK website and its definitely cheaper, around 85.000 yen, about 550£.
I still have a 50£ voucher on Amazon UK, still thinking to buy it there and ask my friend to send it to me, I guess even with the delivery will be much cheaper.

If you look here the price is cheaper on amazon.de:

The only thing is I am not sure the HTC10 sold in Europe is exactly the same one that is sold in Asia

This is the only thing I am worried infact, because my M8 currently doesn't work with LTE here, but is basically a 2 years old phone, at that time 4G was still kind of new.
For a while I will keep looking..
I should have looked better: there are apparently only two versions available, US and EMEA (see here: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_10-7884.php).
For Japan, the bands available are not that great.
Docomo is mostly on bands 1, 3 and 19.
AU on bands 1, 11 and 18.
Softbank on bands 1, 3 and 8.
The HTC 10 EMEA version is on bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40 and 41.
The US version is on bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 28, 29 and 30.
If you are on AU, you have only one band available whatever the HTC 10 version chosen.
If you are on Softbank, the EMEA version has all three bands covered.
With Docomo, either versions are possible (only two bands covered)
This was my main concern, if the HTC 10 EMEA would cover the LTE signal or not, hope it will work with my BiC SiM card, I am using Docomo carrier.
I am wondering if 2 bands are enough for a decent LTE signal thus, but if we really will have only 2 HTC 10 version, it should work..

So... anyone in Japan purchased and rooted the HTC 10 (HTV32) yet? Just about ready to make the visit to the AU store and say sayonara to my M7. I have been looking for experiences on unlocking and rooting on Japanese sites... can't see anyone having done it as yet. I am guessing jcase's method (sticky on the HTC10 forum) will work with this one just as well, but always nice to see others do these things on the exact same version of device prior to diving in yourself (well, for relative noobs like myself, it is less nerve-wracking!)

I bought my HTC 10 from Amazon and I noticed that it has been delivered from Taipei, of course Asia firmware.
No problem here working flawlessly, S-OFF, unlocked bootloader, Lee Droid ROM, ElementalX Kernel.

Awesome - used the method I mentioned? (jcase) I assume it was already unlocked. Which carrier you using, btw? Amazon: might look into that.
Actually I don't even know what is "Jcase" method.
I always follow xda's guide.
I don't have a contract by the way, just using iijimio monthly sim card plan.
Edit: Sorry I forgot to tell you that the HTC 10 I bought is not the Japanese version you mentioned, here:

No sure if this is the right thread but for the Japanese HTC 10 models, what keyboard is installed to input Japanese?
With US models, TouchPal is installed and that does not have a Japanese option.

Touchpal does have Japanese input, I am actually using it.
Just click on top of the keyboard on the "world icon" and add Japanese.

Mine doesn't seem to have it. Can you show me how you added Japanese? (Are you using a Japanese model of HTC 10?)
Thanks!

US HTC 10 unlocked in Europe

Hello,
with the help of a friend, who is currently in USA, I have ordered an US unlocked HTC 10 directly from the htc.com. I am yet to receive the phone.
As i am living in Europe, Bulgaria, i was wondering whether there will be any problems with the OTA updates - will I be able to get them ? Are there any difference between EU and US HTC 10s in that regard, and should I be concerned? I have looked all over the internet and couldn't find the answer to my question, sadly .
Another friend of mine has made the same procedure - bying a phone from the States, but with an Iphone 6s, and has no problems at all with carrier network in Bulgaria and OTA updates. Therefore i thing that I, as well, should not have any problems? or am I wrong?
If this is a duplicate theme, I am sorry - I could't find any.
Appreciate any help in advance.
i have htc 10 USA unlocked in Italy, for my phone no carrier network problem unlocked version have all lte band working, for ota i wait the first, why when i buy my htc 10 is arrived already updated at last version of software for now 1.80.617.1 a wait the ota of july 1.90.401

Note 10 plus variants. Which one to buy to be able to root? Can't find a clear answer

Hi. Today I decided to go on eBay and buy a Note 10 Plus (here in the UK). I cannot live without root, and reading through some threads I've learned that only some variants can be rooted. I don't seem to be able to find a definite answer on existing threads, and I just want to make sure I buy the right one. Which one should I buy? Thank you.
anyone, please?
A few answers for you.
I've seen (not 1st hand) that folks here on xda with US variants have been able to use a online pay service to get their bootloaders unlocked. This may or may not apply to the UK variants.
I'm in US but went the route of purchasing the SM-N9750/DS to have root as that service didn't exist on launch of the Note 10+.
You'd want to check to see which Bands your carrier uses with which the 9750 supports and decide from there.

It appears the Unlock method is only for US variants......you could probably message them and see if UK works with their unlock service
You know what, on second thought (unless it has changed), i thought UK variants were all unlockable......
Maybe that changed....I'm not sure
Thanks for your answers. I've been reading some more and it seems that Exynos ones are easy to unlock and the Snapdragon ones you have to use those online paid methods. Is this correct? Which variant one has more ROM development? Exynos I suppose?
Yes Exynos has way more development. (Virtually none for the Snapdragon), and yup, US and Canadian Snapdragons are locked bootloaders....while the Brazilian, Chinese and a few more international Snapdragons are unlockable like the Exynos. From my limited understanding, the Exynos variants don't perform on par with the Snapdragons...so that's something else to consider.
