Android 12 update causes the System UI to constantly reload - can't use phone - LG G8 Questions & Answers

After applying the Android 12 OTA upgrade today, I can boot into the phone, however it looks like the System UI is constantly stuck instantly crashing upon launch, then reloading. the wallpaper is flickering on and off. I can take calls (and reboot the phone) just about, but I can't open any menu aside from the Power menu, or anything like that. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this? I'd try and enable adb mode or something like that but I can't beacuse I can't open any menu. I managed to boot into safe mode, but that had no effect and the problems are still happening.
Sometimes I can get it to briefly show the system icons, but it disappears too quickly for me to be able to do anything. If I was able to open the settings app, i'd be able to put it in USB file transfer mode to get my stuff of it, but I can't even do that.
Using the LG_UP tool, I can downgrade to the previous firmware, however I can't do anything as it then won't accept my encryption pin code. If flash the (broken) latest firmware back on, I can decrypt the phone, but I'm back where I was again where the system UI app just instantly crashes.
Right, so I think it's related to the lock screen. I was able to (somehow) manage to get it to the home screen from where I could open the settings app up and everything was fine, and was able to turn on USB file transfer mode. However as soon as the phone locked again, it stopped working. But it's very wierd.

You could try to do a factory reset. I think you have to start the device while holding one of the two power keys.

I think that would work, but i'm trying to avoid doing that as there's still stuff i'd like to get off of it. Maybe a future firmware update may fix this bug.

Most probably there will be no further update. Do you have a chance to take a look at the system protocol via "adb logcat" during the crash? Typically the notorious "com.android.systemui" is the culprit.
PS: In fact it does not matter, but is your device some 820 (G8) or the downgraded version 810 (G8s)?

It's the G8S. And I didn't have debug mode enabled, so adb doesn't work.

Yes, i'm pretty confident if I did a factory reset, it would work fine, but I really don't want to do that until i've got all my stuff off it.

i hear ya, understood, i just thought id fyi,
that the reset, as undesireable as it is. has appeared to fix the issue and phone, is as far as i can determine fully operational . the finger print reader, phone calls, and messaging all work
i just got the phone fixed less than an hour ago, after installing the 40a update a lil before noon or 2 hours ago lol

No sound during calls

I have Samsung galaxy i919 tmobile version unlocked . Suddenly there is no sound during the calls, the microphone and the speaker working fine, tested .
Tried to disable the Google search like it was advised on different blogs bust still no luck. Did factory reset, installed new different roms all no luck, if i use Skype, voice recorder or listening to the music everything works fine.
Can somebody have or had the same problem and fixed it?
NEED HELP.
THANK YOU ALL!
Your having a modem problem, check your bootloader and modem make sure they match, if not reflash modem so that it matches your bootloader.
Pp.
Can you please tell me how to do it, and how to reflash modem.
Thank you very much!
Download this and run https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
This will show you all your phone info, make a screen shot and post so we can see all the info concerning your bootloader, baseband (modem) and so forth.
Also current rom and recovery.
Pp.
This is the screenshots.
Thank you.
All your info is good and matching, bootloader, firmware, pda, it's a strange situation how your sound doesn't work.
At this point flashing just the modem could repair issue.
Could you describe how you updated to 4.4.4 or did you get phone with 444?

This may work for you before you start messing with Odin and flashing files.
Try starting your device in Safe Mode to check if a third party app is causing this call related issue.
Turn the device off completely.
Press and hold the Power button.
Once the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo appears on the screen, release the Power button.
As soon as you release the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
Continue holding the Volume Down key until the phone has completed the reboot process.
If you can read ‘Safe Mode‘ at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down key. Otherwise, repeat the process until you can boot the phone to Safe Mode
Once in Safe mode try placing a call or have someone call you. Can you hear the person on the other end of the line? If you can then this issue might be caused by certain a certain third party app or apps. Try to find out what it is and uninstall it.

Hi
I updated to 4.4.4 with kies from samsung, after a couple of months the sound was gone, as i said before its working with skype, viber etc only with calls no sound. So i flashed the device and installed 4.4.2 still nothing , then i installed another rom still nothing eventually i reinstalled 4.4.2 didn't help and i updated with kies again to 4.4.4 tried to do safe mode before still nothing, the device is empty no apps installed.
Thank you.
I worked with odin before, if you can explain to me how to flash the modem and where to get the rom for modem will be very appreciated!
Thank you.
When you updated with Kies the process flashes the entire firmware including modem, so at this stage I would conclude that your modem is not the issue.
I think one of your communication apps that you installed corrupted some files and that's what's causing the problem.
Did you try ( if not, do it ) uninstalling all that had to do with communication, Skype, Tango and anything else that does the same , but before deleting apps manually delete the "cashe" and "data" in system, more, application manager. then delete.
At this point you will do a factory reset, because the deleted apps will hide stuff in files that "delete " can't find .
Now reboot phone and test, do not let phone update apps from play store before test, if not working redo Kies again, after reboot do not update apps and test.
Pp.
That's the thing i did it already. Current status of my phone , its empty no apps installed whatsoever , no skype , no viber nothing the phone is empty. did factory reset, everything. As i mentioned before i flashed the device couple of times with different roms is still not working.
Thank you.
Maybe i still need to flash the modem?
Modem only deals with call conectivity and wifi reception, both of which you have working.
Sound is a whole different component on the motherboard and system firmware.
But at this stage it wouldn't hurt to try.
Pp.

Here's the link for the modem
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95864024717073471
, d/l ,open Odin and click PDA slot , attach file to Odin and flash phone while in download mode.

Hi. I flashed the modem , didn't help unfortunately. I am going crazy what it can be, cause the speaker and mic works fine.
I believe that one of the call apps you installed created some file changes that jacked - up your ability to have sound while making calls.
These apps can make changes that are hard to reverse, they purposely write to areas in your system that even if you delete the app the change stays there for ever.
Reinstalled firmware should overwrite and repair but apparently it's not happening.
One last thing you can try is going back to Odin and flashing the stock NK2 firmware again but un-check re-boot in Odin and after its done flashing pull the battery (do not allow Phone to reboot )
Wait 15 seconds insert battery, hold power - volume down - home go right back into download mode and flash again with NK2 firmware, you'll be doing a double flash, after the second time pull battery, re-install and allow phone to boot up normally.
This may do it, if it doesn't work after this you may need service repair.
Good luck.
Pp.
I am having this issue as well. It does not happen all the time but it is very annoying when I get or make a call and we cannot hear each other. I have reset my phone and the problem continues. Phone has always been stock. Interesting is that the problem will not happen if I chose all calls made over WiFi only. That's not much help though when you leave the house.
I'm hoping an eventual update to lollipop will fix it. It seems like a corrupt file somewhere in the 4.4.4 stock Rom. If not, I'm sending it to Samsung for repair. It's not an app issue imo.
Downloaded signal check pro to see what was going on with my signal and it seems to be related to the switch from lte to cdma when I answer the call. Odd thing though is that sometimes it works fine. Random. Frustrating.
This could be a firmware/hardware issue with some of the S4's, early in the release of the S4 there where random reports of phones losing sound, and with active warranties people would walk into the local T-Mobile stores and phones would be exchanged on the spot.
It could have been a batch of phones from a certain production run ? Who knows, at least this is what Tmo and Samsung where hoping for, but it appears that whatever this is it is still around or its resurfacing again maybe due to component wear. ???
Maybe some forum member that is familiar with this or knows someone or works for T-Mobile can chime in.
Pp.
Flashed the modem twice as you said, nothing happened same problem!
Here's one more test, take out the sim card and reinstall it.
There have been cases where the problem was the sim card, remove and examine, or the holder (this would entail a repair shop visit )
You can test it by installing someone else's card and make a call, have someone call corresponding number of sim card.
Pp.
Did this before, removed the simcard, removed the memory stick , still nothing. Will have to go to repair shop then
Thank you!

8.0 update made mobile data not work

I have the Honor 7x, and recently update to the 8.0 Oreo android update. Immediately after the installed the update in the morning, I noticed that my mobile data was no longer working correctly.
Wifi can connect, I can make phone calls, send text, literally everything else about the phone works perfectly.
A day later I got another update 8.0.0.332, however I am still unable to access my mobile data.
I use At t for my phone service, and do not have any damage to the phone (havent dropped the phone, water damage, etc).
My friend has the exact same phone, with the exact same phone service, and got his update the same day without having any issues.
Thing I have tried in attempt to fix the problem already based on google searches:
I have tried turning my phone into airplane mode, waiting, turning off airplane mode (also with trying a hard reset on the phone).
I have switched my simcard to slot 2.
I have put my simcard in another phone, and verified that the sim card is still working properly (the other phone was able to access data just perfectly).
I have tried turning off 4G data, and putting it back on.
I have tried resetting the APN back to default.
I have tried manually typing in my APN.
I have also tried network setting reset.
And finally, I have tried a factory data reset.
Running out of ideas of what else to try, hoping you guys have some ideas to help me out with this problem
Much thanks.
Flash a ROM and see if that does anything, if you want. Another thing to do is to do what the post below mind says, thanks.
Or join the Telegram Honor 7x group chat lol

Back up and reset
Reset
Reset network setting

Power saving mode - Can't change this setting in demonstration mode

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra (Exynos) and when I try to activate the Power Saving Mode I get this message: "Can't change this setting in demonstration mode". I looked under Developer Options and the Demo Mode is not enabled. Any idea why the option is greyed out (Under battery settings) and giving this message (when clicking it under settings or under the notification shade quick toggle) ?
Thanks
Personally I never use this mode as it goofs up display settings.
Maybe the firmware is corrupted; if so not worth reflashing if this is the only issue.
Try clearing the system cache and a hard reset.
Try turning off Developer options.
If that doesn't get it, boot up in Safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app causing it.
Factory reset but I don't recommend it...
hi there im also having issue on my note 20 ultra and i stick cant get it to worl
hello is anyone here that can help me solve my issue i won a note 20 ultra and i have the same issue i cant seeem to fix it were you able to fix yours and if so please how didi you go about it thanks
I've tried clearing the system cache, hard reset and also flashed the latest android 11 firmware and still I get the same message when trying to enable power saving mode. I did not reset the CSC when flashing however, to not lose all my data. I have a strange WWB active CSC. I gave up for now.
Sir do you personally think its a hardware defect or a software update can fix it, i tried flashing a combination firmware but i was getting a pit file issue
this is very frustrating honestly
Sounds like a Samsung firmware bug.
Samsung will substitute smaller chipsets and components as needed during a production run.
So the base firmware may not be compatible with those devices unless Samsung recognizes the issue and modifies the instruction set for the firmware.
Congratulations, you're now a Samsung beta firmware tester...

Eventually Samsung may role out a fix.
If what I described above is the case Samsung is dependent on customers sending the phone in for repairs to physically see which chipsets or components were used in the build.
If it can be fixed by firmware they will likely roll out a patch if they get enough blow back.
If it can't be patched, replacing the mobo is their only solution.
If what I described is the case, sending it in under factory warranty is the only guarantee it will be fixed.
How to fix its? help me plzz
Try loading a early version of Device Care.
This is the original one loaded on my Note 10+.
It has 360° so if it loads firewall block this apk.
It may not load or behave erratically on a Note 20 or other models that aren't a 10+.
Not clue what will happen... are you feeling lucky today?
I encountered the same issue after upgrading my Note 20 ultra to android 12 via Odin flash. It's working and I also chose home_csc to retain my data. Trying to turn on Power saving keeps giving that same feedback, I wonder why. Also while typing this can anyone help me get mobile data toggle in my notification menu, I have all other icons except for the mobile data toggle
Edit: I've fixed the data and hotspot toggle using adb. The power saving mode is still unsolved
We need to change csc to vietnam

Has ANYONE figured out how to clear the cache (partition) ?
I updated yesterday, without reading anything first (I figured it was "stable", right ... ), and now I can't get my mobile-network to work (either 5G or reverting to 4G, including APN reset, etc) for more than a few seconds at-a-time.
I chatted w/support, who of course told me to clear the cache (I've had this fix other network issues in the past, stale DNS and such), and seemed puzzled that the option doesn't exist, in Recovery-Mode, you can only do a full-format, period...
So, I'm hoping someone here figured it out?

Yeah, similar, except that I can only get *some* SMS, or perhaps "delayed" might be more accurate.
As such, I'm sort of locked out of both my Authenticator apps, which seem to not like the fact my mobile-data is sketchy (seems reasonable, actually), and then want to reset things, of course using SMS, but they require the codes to be "timely", which circles back...
Support is lost, if you ask me, they seemed confused about the cache issue, until I sent a pic, and then they just wanted to wrap up the chat, with no actual solution, other than "we'll have someone contact you in 24-48", which I seriously doubt will happen.
It's weird, almost like OP doesn't realize people use their phones for critical tasks, or they don't care, it's hard to say. If you go back and read some of the B2 threads (apparently the last B2 build was the release), it's more obvious that you shouldn't upgrade, and I wouldn't have, if OP had mentioned this, anywhere, in the release-notes...
I shut down backup/restore, right away, so I have a A11 backup, sitting there, now I just need to go find the right APK (support also had no clue there) and matching MD5 (yeah, I'm sort of paranoid about this), and cross my fingers, toes, and more... ;-]

Stupid suggestion, but have your tried swapping Sim slots?
That seems to work for some people for getting 5g back...
hello all, same issue here.
i tried everything besides wiping data completely .
i do not want to do this before there is 100% confirmation that this can help.
about the suggested solution of trying the 2nd SIM card slot... i can see 2 sim cards options in cellular settings, but i dont see any other physical slot in my device to enter my SIM card, so i cannot try this method.
i dont understand how there is not patch for it, what we suppose to do in this case?
Thanks.

My 9pro has a second slot, marked SIM2, on the other side of SIM1...
Yes, but even if i had the 2nd sim card slot, im not sure that this would have been solved this mobile network issue.
How to wipe caches:
Requirements- Root, computer, platform-tools
How to -
Dalvik through adb:
sdk/platform-tools/adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ su system
[email protected]:/ $ cd data/dalvik-cache/
[email protected]:/data/dalvik-cache $ rm *
[email protected]:/data/dalvik-cache $ exit
[email protected]:/data $ exit
Or
Cache through fastboot:
sudo su
fastboot erase cache
Will it do the trick in this case?
edit - maybe wiping all data completely will fix this issue?

Okay thank you! Will try it in a few days time once I am able to give it the time needed.
It is happening to me too, I'm on stock 13.0.4 SKHMIXM, bootloader locked, it happened in 13.0.3 too. Sometimes, I see I have no services, no data, no GPS. But WiFi works great, so if I'm in house I don't always see it, but it means I cannot receive call!!!
I tried to enable/disable sim/data/location/airplane/etc nothing works.
Only way to re-make it works is to reboot the phone, and after 2 or 3 weeks it will happen again, this is the price to pay to have cheap chinese phone...
Try booting into Android with Safe Mode. (and disable Airplane Mode if enabled)
Power + Volume Up > Safe Mode
Or try this:
Settings > Updater > Tap on the "13" several times, this will enable additional Updater-features. Download the latest package and install it.
My guess is that your update may have been corrupt.
Other than that.. Factory Reset or connecting phone to PC and flashing ROM using Fastboot & Mi Flash or Terminal.
I've 13.0.7 and everything's flawless.
So the Xiaomi service center told me that it is possibly a motherboard issue. How can a software update suddenly awaken a hardware issue?
So I had not unlocked my bootloader via my Mi account and it needs mobile data for the same and hence I am unable to flash it since my network is still unavailable even after a factory reset. Any other way I can flash my phone with an older version of MIUI or I will have to submit my phone to the service center?

Could you elaborate the whole process? I do not know how to do this. Thanks
Same issue i am facing after MIUI updation for 13.0.3.0 SJCINXM ... suddenly all networks are vanished ... if i do manual search for networks then i get a message 'Couldn't search for mobile networks' . Voice call is only possible if wifi is enabled.. This is really a horrible experience and i am unable to find out a way to get rid of this situation.. I am using Redmi 9 Prime handset .. Before this update everything was surperb and flawless.
It is still happening with the latest Android 13 and MIUI14, it's frustrating... sometimes when the phone switch wifi/lte/wifi/lte/etc when you go outside, the modem crashes, it internally bootloop and the phone becomes warm and can lose 25% battery in like 15 minutes. Only way is to reboot the phone.
I had a similar problem. Were you able to solve it?
