Question [RESOLVED] S22 Wi-fi calling quit working after installing One UI 5 (Android 13) - Samsung Galaxy S22

I have a new Galaxy S22 (SM-S901U1 - USA factory unlocked), purchased and placed into service on October 29 (as an upgrade from an S21). While using the One UI 4.1 firmware (AVI5), Wi-Fi calling worked flawlessly (both making and receiving calls), as it did on the S21 (One UI 4.0) prior to that.
On November 15, I installed One UI 5 (Android 13); BVK1, and have found that Wi-Fi calling no longer works. When I try to make a call, I receive an error message "Turn off Airplane Mode to make this call"; and calls made to me don't ring on the phone.
Wi-Fi calling is, of course, enabled at both my carrier (a T-Mobile MVNO) and on my phone. FYI, the SIM is in SIM2 (eSIM), though I am not sure that is relevant to Wi-Fi calling.
Does anyone know how to fix this or is it a bug in the firmware? I need Wi-Fi calling.
UPDATE: The OTA update from Android 12 to Android 13 revoked all of the permissions for the app "Carrier Services" ; once these permissions were restored (followed by a reboot), Wi-Fi calling became fully functional again.

Wifi calling

So is it possible to enable wifi calling and/or VoLte on stock 8.1 rooted or any firmware of the pixel without being on Verizon? I am on AT&T so just wondering if there is a mod or something I can do to enable it.
Magisk has a module that can do that; VoEnabler .... this module will enable access to the features in the pixel, in Dialer, settings, etc. * but that doesn't mean you can actually use them;
First, check that your carrier/service actually supports the feature .... You can check with a secret code though; in Dialer;
*#*#4636#*#*
Then navigate to "Phone Information"... from there scroll down;
you should see the stuff for VOLTE, Wifi Calling, Video Calling, etc. If it's enabled then you may be good to go..
but if your carrier doesn't support it - enabling it via VoEnabler will do nothing to change that.
Also, I don't know about the US, but in Canada - some carriers (under some plans) do charge extra for this stuff.

It is all carrier dependant, i got my XL from Verizon and I'm on TMO and wifi calling and volte is working but I don't think att supports the pixels for volte and wifi calling

Sort of this. Basically AT&T will not support VoLTE or WiFi calling on any unbranded unlocked devices brought onto their network. Never worked on my T-Mobile Note 4 nor my Google purchased Pixel XL. I was a long time subscriber to their service but once my dependency on MMS messaging increased I had no choice but to switch to another carrier. I wound up on Verizon after a brief time with T-Mobile. Both support full functionality of these devices.

Before installing magisk I dialed that number and they were all greyed out, I installed magisk installed the module and now VoLte and Wifi calling are both enabled in that menu and in the settings menu. I tested wifi calling and it worked. So maybe just need the module installed and it will work. That's what worked for me.

Cool. glad to hear my advice helped... but also using the secret code in the Dialer would've verified if your carrier supports it on their network, beforehand; that's why I posted in that step...
also, just as a reminder; I'd make sure that there aren't any hidden fees associated with using those features, I don't know much about US carriers; aside from that they are (generally) against Net Neutrality.... But I know with my particular carrier, in Canada; If i wasn't using the plan that I am on; they would be charging me extra - and it would add up quick... so best to double check, maybe.

I came to this phone from a s7 edge that had VoLTe and Wifi calling on it never got charged for anything, would it be different with a non carrier phone?

I have no idea: I live in Canada and have never dealt with US carriers ~ that's something that you will need to verify on your own. Some may allow it; some may not... you guys do things quite a bit different south of the border, so I just don't know....
You should be able to find that out in the support/QA area of your Carrier's website ~ if not there, you can ask them directly.
but yeah, obviously, if it was working on your S7 - then your network supports it....
Hello, I am on Vodafone UK, recently my area is getting poor 4G coverage so the vodafone tech guy asked me to shift on wifi calling inside the house. He enabled it from carrier perpective but I have to enable it on handset as well. I struggled to find the option. Now using the secret code above I can see I have wifi calling option greyed out. btw, I am on stock android 8.1. What is the best and least intrusive way to get the wifi calling working on my handset.
I am not a developer but have experience with root on previous devices. If I have to install Magisk( is there a non-root option?) what module etc I need to install to get this working please..

Flash magisk and get the module called VoEnabler just sear h VoLte in the search bar it should pop up then after it installs restart phone and you should have the options.
Hi Praveenjohri - did you get this to work?
I too have a Pixel XL and on Vodafone UK; again the wifi calling option is greyed out.
Any layman guides as to how to Flash magisk and go about enabling this? Thanks in advance

Verizon Advanced/HD Calling on Unlocked S9+

I currently have an Unlocked Galaxy S9+ directly from Samsung running on Verizon's network.
I can't seem to find a way to enable the HD Calling/Video Calling/Advanced Calling features.
Some rumors suspected if you installed the MyVerizon app it would enable the advanced calling menu, but that didn't work.
Is there any way to enable these features?
Is there a command through ADB to enable this?
Would I need root access?
EDIT: Model Number: SM-G965U1 - Snapdragon
No way to get Video and WiFi calling to work (yet), but go to Connections, then Mobile Networks and you can turn VoLTE Calls on or off, which is HD voice. It was there by default on my unlocked S9+ on Verizon. If you don't see it, you may need to add HD calling to your Verizon plan (it's free, but you have to login to the website and add it as a feature).

Yeah, I know that they support video calling, along with a ton of other apps, but there is a native video calling option.
They got it working on unlocked S8, using some of the APKs and CSC from the Verizon phone. See below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...to/how-to-video-wificalling-unlocked-t3615027
Or just by flashing the whole Verizon firmware on the unlocked phone (kinda defeats the purpose of getting the unlocked phone):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...axy-s8-unlocked-version-wifi-calling-t3699806
So I'm hoping it's just a matter of time, as I also need the WIFI calling to work on my unlocked phone. I think that's what is needed in order to send texts over WIFI via the Verizon Message+ app, which is what I ultimately need when in poor signal areas (sending texts over WIFI, without getting a second number with Google Voice or asking people to install secondary apps like Allo/Duo). Or I could just switch to T-mobile I guess, where all these things work with the unlocked phone without the additional hassle.
Here is to hoping we can get wifi calling and native video calling working on the unlocked s9/s9+ phones for those of us on verizon.
I have the S9+ (G965U1), and I have used the included Wi-Fi Calling app.
Look for Wi-Fi Calling.

I just got my unlocked S9 what do I need to do to get everything working on VZW I mean HD Calling, and video calling etc.? I've never owned Samsung Phones, I've always had unlocked bootloader HTC phones that I could do anything I wanted with. I don't know anything about Samsung accept "Odin". I still havn't put the sim card in cause I was thinking of returning the phone.
Thanks for the hint Dudeman456! I found WiFi Calling under system apps and went to its settings and activated its permissions. Now I can send text messages over WiFi using Verizon Message+ app (and not the included Messages app or Android Messages). I still don't have WiFi calling through the default phone app on S9. I wonder if there is a different phone app that I need for that purpose (Verizon Phone app?).
Same issue as my unlocked Note 8 I got from Sammy. You can enable video calling in the *#*#4636*#*# menu. You will not be able to activate WiFi calling though unless you flash the Verizon firmware. You also will not be able to use any Verizon features such as watching NFL games (but I think that is changing and won't be a Verizon exclusive) and premium visual voicemail. Really is a deal breaker for me.

What in the world does this mean "*#*#4636*#*# menu"????
All,
This is a KNOWN issue with Verizon.
I got my S9+ on Wed 3/14 from pre-order and could not get video calling to work. Went to Verizon store on Sat 3/17 preparing to wage war with them. The Verizon tech stopped me in my tracks and said it's already known. An email sent from corporate to all verizon stores indicating the problem with video calling. It is an issue with Samsung software which they are "diligently" working to correct and will push an update soon.
Notice this.. go to either MyVerizon app or the website and login. then go to devices/manage devices...then go controls then to adjust service blocks and you will see the video calling is blocked and cannot be unblocked. Apparently this is done for "our own good" until Samsung fixes the issue.
No date from the tech on when a fix will be issued.
DONT try anything crazy to enable video calling..just be patient and wait for the fix. My S9+ is unlocked too and i was assured that video calling will be enabled once a fix is issued.

That is odd. I am using my G965U1 on Sprint and my Wi-Fi Calling app is in the regular app drawer with everything else. I did not expect it to work, since it is Sprint, but it did. The Wi-Fi Calling app was available before placing a sim card inside.

I don't think it will unblock. If you didn't buy the VZW branded phone you most likely won't get video calling. I assumed this from the start. I spent a good portion of the day speaking with a VZW 2nd level support engineer supervisor with 20 years experience. He asked is there anything else that could be done besides unblocking video calls to make me happy, because that at this time it is impossible as the phone is not a VZW phone. Look in you phone profile on their website, does a picture of your phone show up? My profile is blank, that means the phone is not in their system of phones, even though I flashed the full VZW package with bloatware and all after first a full reset. My Phone has VZW splash screen and all the advanced calling menus, in about phone it says SM-G960U, but that block cant be removed. Maybe I screwed up somewhere and alerted them by booting with a sim card in? Maybe they flagged my IMEI? I don't know but the rep said point blank they can't unblock video calling on that line, and unlocked phones are not supported.
Are you all seeing LTE+ (carrier aggregation) on your Verizon S9 devices? I'm in Vegas and my device appears to sit on B13 (700mhz) and does not hand off anywhere else.

You need the right apps for Wi-Fi calling and some in framework. I don't own a s9 but that's what you need to do to get it to work. Along with some csc edits

SM-G925F won't get every call but 4g is fine - VoLTE activation?

Hi,
I moved from Europe to the US with the S6 edge (SM-G925F) and subscribed to t-mobile. Internet is fine but I don't get every call.
I've been browsing the web a lot today to find a solution and the best I found so far was to root the phone, go in the servicemode to change the band selection from "automatic" to "LTE_GSM". Now the phone switches from "4g" to "e" when it receives a call :victory: but it doesn't work every time
I then understood it might be because VoLTE wasn't activated but the option is nowhere on the phone.
Voice and data services can work simultaneously only on VoLTE. (If VoLTE is turned off or the device does not support it, then LTE is only data.)

- Do I have to flash to a rom where it is activated? (sm-g925t stock rom for example)
- Can I just update the CSC to activate VoLTE? (if I check it is already set as "true" everywhere)
It seems the question of the s6/t-mobile compatibility is redundant since I've read a lot about it but I couldn't find any solution that worked and tbh it is kind of confusing for the non-experts. (My level: I tweaked a lot/all of my phones but always following tuto carefully)
Thank you for your help!
So I updated the CSC files I extracted from the latest sm-g925t stock rom and now I see the "4g LTE" logo and I can receive call in 4g BUT (and it's a big one) the phone app, message app and contact keep closing so its impossible to actually answer the call or read a message... any idea what could cause the issue?
I noticed it's only when I overwrite the "others.xml" file. If only the "customer.xml" it doesn't change anything and apps still works.

No VoLTE or VoWiFi after upgrade to Android Pie (TA-1045) on T-Mobile USA

Hello,
Anybody else has this problem? All worked fine till the upgrade.
I'm on mintsim and all seems to be well. Volte is on and I just tested WiFi calling which worked fine.
It's the only problem I had after the update on pie.
I used to have volte but now i haven't.
No icon on status bar , first I deactivated the volte from my carrier then I activated again but the problem remains. The support of Nokia have been suggested to
cleared cache on carrier service and made soft reset but nothing done
No problems here, same phone, same network. Ota was sideloaded with no factory reset.
Same here. Same phone, same tmo. I use wifi calling for 99 percent of my calls, and it works just fine for me after sideloading the update.

Thank you - I did a factory reset and the problem was resolved. Seems something wrong went during the upgrade to Android Pie. Despite the fact that phone is not rooted or modified in any way.
Having same problem, Factory reset didnt solve the problem... (done twice now). have 3 of these phones... one has volte and vowifi working after update, 2 = no go. Any thoughts on how I can gets these 2 phones working with all of Tmo's services?
Is there a way to check volte? In settings, it's turned on, but I never see an icon. Should I be seeing an icon?
VoLTE will show up at the top of the screen next to your signal icon. (Or VoWiFi if on a wifi signal that is capable). Mine doesn't show because the phone borked it's update and for some reason wont register to the IMS server now. You can also check if you are provisioned for VoLTE and VoWiFi in the phone status by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting the top "phone information". Furthermore you can check if IMS is registered (required to use either service) by then selecting the three dots in the upper right hand corner and selecting "IMS service status".
If you have both options enabled in the phone settings and the Phone information shows you are provisioned for them, but your IMS is not registered... your November update probably borked as well. (this is the hole I'm currently in)
I might add for those that may not know, if you do not have provisioning, this is the fault (or limitation) of your provider. Consult with them to correct. If you are provisioned however and IMS is not registered, Make sure your APN settings are correct (again to your spec provider). If still unable to get IMS registration, well... welcome aboard!

Same for me (T-Mobile US).
In my case, the phone was updated to Android 9.0, but right after that I sent it to Nokia for repair because of frequent call dropping that was happening with both Android 8.1 and 9.0. I got it back from Nokia with Android 7.1.1 loaded on it (?) and was prompted to update to Android 9.0 and then to the November 2018 security update. Since then I have factory reset the phone twice, but it's not doing IMS registration.

So I switched my sim card from slot one to slot two and lo and behold, both VoLTE and VoWIFI are now working. I wonder why? It sucks that you can't use that AND have a microSD card in, but I don't use that much storage so this will work for now ...
I'm having the same problem with AT&T on the TA-1045. Normally I get VoLTE only, but not showing IMS Registered. Just tried moving SIM from slot 1 to slot 2 with no success.

Was looking for VoLTE and found this thread. Yes VoLTE works fine with t-mobile, I tested this week-end while in USA (I'm Canadian). Also to use 2 sim cards AND sdcard you can use an hybrid extender, I am using one and it works perfectly. My Canadian SIM is inside the phone with the SD Card and my other sim (roam mobility, t-mobile,m at&t, etc) is outside and very easy to change.

Mi A2 Lite WiFi Calling?

Ok so I'm very disappointed that the WiFi Calling function (VoWifi) has been disabled in this phone, along with Volte, take a look in your phone information by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and you will see that they're both there but disabled. You can enable Volte by dialing *#*#86583#*#* and you will see an enhanced 4g LTE Mode option appear in network settings and get HD (calling) in the status bar when on 4g, depending on your network.
BUT, there seems no way to enable WiFi calling? There is a Magisk module available called voenabler which I have installed, it has enabled the wifi calling menu, but when I make a call with no mobile network I get the message "Mobile network not available. Connect to a wireless network to make a call" as opposed to the usual "Mobile network no available" So it seems that it's trying, but not seeing my network?
I know it can provider dependant, I get HD calling and IMS registration, just seems like an odd error msg, can anyone shed any light on this please?
From my research it seems that this could be an AndroidOne license thing, my Brother has bought a P20 lite and it works out of the box, are Google saving the functions for it's flagship Pixels or network contract phones? Wouldn't surprise me, maybe Pie will switch it on....... Doubt it.
I'm surprised that there is not more activity on this thread.
WiFi calling is very convenient in poor signal areas but as you say it seems to be disabled on this phone.
I'm now using A2 lite as my daily phone, VOLTE working great but lack of WiFi calling a real disappointment.
Just for mental support, I'm also very disappointed that this feature is missing. I really need this feature in my well isolated home. I have to go outdoors to make phone calls.....
Under debug (*#*#INFO#*#*) it's indeed still locked. Disabled carrier check for VOLte as you said with *#*#86583#*#* though.
Yes I've all but given up... I've had the phone months but not used it.
I'll keep it until the pie update, a comment on the pie thread said that it enabled volte with a working ims, I asked but no one confirmed wether or not vowifi was enabled or switchable in the info settings.
Trouble is there is no information about vowifi in any other android one phone? If I knew it was available I'd buy a Nokia 6.1 plus for example.
Reset phone back to factory, installed Pie ota, both volte and vowifi are disabled as in Oreo. Real shame as this A2 is a cracking phone for the price, but I'll have to find something else. Preferably AndroidOne with WiFi calling!
VoLTE & WiFI Calling not working for T-Mobile USA. Even 2G/3G calling is spotty at best. If you want to use the Mi A2 Lite for calling on T-Mobile in USA, good luck. 4G LTE, data, MMS/SMS are flawless, however calling is really bad.
Wifi calling is working fine, if you're supported the toggles show up in google phone.
I used magisk module voenable although I don't think it did anything, could be wrong but wifi calling and volte working great
Thanks Boe!
I see you're in the Uk, what network are you on? Contract / sim only? I've tried most in my A2 Lite and none worked but they were just payg sims. I haven't tried the voenabler again after installing Pie.
Both networks are contract ,Vodafone uk and EE UK, they both have wifi 4g calling enabled in there provider account , plus didn't work untill I dialed that number , flashed magisk also with module voenable. I didn't check for wifi option in Google phone before magisk so don't know if it helped or not. Reading in xiomi forum, it's disabled for certain countries including UK even though it's a global use phone, which is rediculous.Have a look in your provider account if you have one, or create an account so you have access to sim provider config.
Latest beta v27 Google phone if that helps.
Cheers. I'm on BT uk and have vowifi enabled as I've put my sim in an iphone and it went on wifi calling. My brother has ee, I'll try his card.
They seem to have done something new for Pie as previously only one sim could get 4g? Looks like I'll have to re-install magisk and try voenable again, was it simple in pie with the different bootimage?

They seem to have done something new for Pie as previously only one sim could get 4g? Looks like I'll have to re-install magisk and try voenable again, was it simple in pie with the different bootimage?

Same process but with 10.20 patched boot in pie dump thread, i still made my own though, seems logical to use your own patched boot. Although check to make sure its the right size as first time i did it, the patch had zero bytes. Wifi calling enables on both sims and hd calling, i assume its just a bug, sometimes it works as expected and sometimes it enables everything on both sims lol, battery goes quick. Wish i could get nfc on it but theres no chip so thats a no go. As long as you dont mess with the system partition outside of magisk ota's will be more simple to sort out, keep stock boot as back up on pc and phone. Busy box is one file in sbin folder if you install it.

I used magisk module voenable although I don't think it did anything, could be wrong but wifi calling and volte working great

I can confirm that Wifi Calling works on Orange Poland after installing VoEnabler module in Magisk:
Cheers Guys!
Reinstalled Magisk and Voenabler after removing it to upgrade to Pie, and have Wifi calling on BT uk! Tested and working.
Definitely something to do with Pie as would not work in Oreo (or without voenable in Pie)
Glad you sorted it bro, it's nice to have functions working.
Yes it is, you're right it is ridiculous that it's disabled and I still suspect it's androidone licensing or network pressure limiting the functions.
And it shows what a load of BS and miss-information there is around wifi calling, I called BT and asked saying I wanted to buy a new phone with it, the first guy who seemed quite bright said it should work if the phone's not on their official list as long as the phone supports it (he seemed a little reluctant, like he shouldn't be telling me) The second call when I asked if they could check I was sim enabled I was told by a lady that it definitely would not work unless I bought a phone from their list - Xiaomi? Who are they?
And according to my BT app I still don't have either volte or vowifi.....
I'm well pleased, I have no / borderline network signal from any provider in or around my home so now I have a working phone!
Guys any idea if the Pie update on A2 made possible the Vowifi? I tried on mine but only Volte seems to work. Cosmote Greece.
