[ROM][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 20.0 for Nexus 5 (hammerhead) [DISCONTINUED] - Nexus 5 Original Android Development

LineageOS 20.0 is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 13.0 (T), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*

* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM

* you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.
*
*/
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
The source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit our Gerrit Code Review. Your changelog is whatever was merged into gerrit.
Known bugs:
Screen mirroring via slimport HDMI adapter doesn't work. (won’t fix)
PMF aka 802.11w doesn't supported. PMF SHOULD NOT be enforced in your wifi router! (can’t fix)
Encryption doesn’t work. FDE encryption was removed completely in Android 13! (can’t fix)
There may be a lot of other issues because these builds are experimental!

ROM Installation
To install rom you should increase the /system partition size
This can be done for example with TWRP HH.R
[RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP HH for Nexus 5 (hammerhead)
TWRP HH for Nexus 5 About: TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with...

GAPPS Installation
LineageOS Team have recommendations about GAPPS
My recommendation is BiTGapps for Android 13.0.0 for arm devices.
Google apps should be installed via recovery immediately after installing LineageOS. If you reboot into LineageOS before installing Google apps, you must factory reset and then install them, otherwise expect crashes.

ROM Build
To make your own build of LineageOS 20.0 please use my trees with manifests from LineageOS-UL github.
Currently HAL3 camera is broken in LineageOS-UL repos. You should use my forks of the android_frameworks_av and android_frameworks_base or use roomservice.xml attached to this post.

Comment with google nexus 5 lineage os 20 android 13..just camera and video suddenly stuck..but overall all perfect..smooth ui..this is the most fastest and smooth os i use on my nexus 5..tq so much for make my nexus 5 more powerfull

The only issue I have is that I cannot turn on Bluetooth. I wiped the phone and clean installed it with BiTGApps. Even in the setup wizard I got the Bluetooth keeps stopping message. Apart from this everything I tried seems to be working. I tried to wipe cache in TWRP, but that didn't fix it. Also wanted to clear cache in Apps but Clear storage and Clear cache is grayed out.
Edit: Here's a logcat. Is this some more SELinux policy issue? Because in the logcat I see this:
Code:
11-29 00:19:09.309 1586 1586 E SELinux : seapp_context_lookup: No match for app with uid 1002, seinfo default, name com.android.bluetooth
I'm just guessing blindly. That line caught my eye.
___________________________________________________
Edit 2: Did some more digging and found out this is because com.android.bluetooth is signed with a different certificate?
I found that for another device: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/58
Then I found this patch on LineageOS Gerrit: https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_packages_modules_Bluetooth/+/344542
That topic has two more patches: https://review.lineageos.org/q/topic:bluetooth-cert
Is this what we need? Does this build have these patches?

Thanks for developing latest roms for the Nexus 5! Really awesome of what people can do

@bluetooth-bug,
Yes these patches are included. It is very strange because we have tested bluetooth and it worked. Unfortunately i can't do anything with it without device

@bluetooth-bug and @z3DD3r same issue with bluetooh even i wiped the phone and clean installed it with BiTGApps.
Otherwise the rom is super smooth and usable.
Good work

@bluetooth-bug, @androcib,
Please try new build. Please test with clean flash and without gapps and magisk.

@z3DD3r I dirty flashed it from previous build and Bluetooth is working now. Something was definitely missing from the previous build and somehow com.android.bluetooth was still not signed with the proper certificate.
I knew something was wrong because I dirty flashed the previous build as well and Bluetooth was still borked. (lineage-20.0-20221124-UNOFFICIAL-hammerhead-experimental.zip)
Thank you for all the hard work! This ROM definitely has potential. I think I am going to keep it.

@z3DD3r thanks
bluetooh seems to be ok however camera does not work same for listening msique with app

@bluetooth-bug,
Can you please also check this?

@z3DD3r @androcib
Of course I can check. And cannot confirm the issue, because camera works for me. And works as intended.
I opened the Camera app, took a picture, and I was able to view the picture as well. Next, I switched to video and recorded one. Then I was able to play it back.
@androcib keep in mind that if you play a video you shot for the first time then you will need to raise the volume. Every LineageOS is like that.
Sure the preview window is a bit tiny but that's just how the app is. So yeah. Push volume up and you will see that you will have sound if that's what you mean. This is not a bug.

bluetooth work now , camera also and music too

a reinstallation, formatting and repair file system solves my camera and music issues

I was excited to see Android 13 for my Nexus 5, but is it really discontinued already...?
I'll be trying it anyway. The feedback above seems positive. Thanks for giving us more toys to play with.

This is really impressive and awesome that Android 13 works on the Nexus 5.

It would be great to have a stable-daily 13 android for our N5!
thanks @z3DD3r

Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.
Broken Features / Known Issues
VIDEO ENCODER/DECODER ISSUES: This results in green lines on videos/pictures taken using the Intel HW encoder/decoder and other playback issues dependent on video formats. See the list below:
Snapchat: thin greeen line tends to appear on recorded videos for snapchat
Asus Pixelmaster Camera App: Super resolution mode does not work. Turning off "Optimizations" from settings clears up any green line issues.
Some video formats do not play as expected
FM Radio is unsupported.
audio is a little weird in Real Racing 3.
sim 2 cannot be disabled (this is true for all CM builds on non qualcomm hardware)
Other than Fugu (Nexus Player TV box) there are no Vendor released M x86/x86_64 builds in existance. You may experience some issues with GAPPS and some known apps not loading or working correctly. Below is a list of KNOWN apps that do not currently run on CM13 based x86 Zenfone 2 builds :
Ingress, Polaris Office, Chase Mobile, Showbox...

FAQ
Does Official TWRP work?
* Yep
* Unified recovery builds as of TWRP 3.0.0-0, same build for both Z00A/Z008
Can I use a custom kernel with these builds?
* At your own risk, don't complain here if something gets broken in the process
*Also, doing so makes any feedback useless to us because the kernel and the ROM are a complete package and changing part of that means you may have broken something beyond our control.
Will this be an Official ROM?
* When all the show stopping bugs are fixed and all the upstream commits are merged, yes.
* Until then, no because CyanogenMod has very high standards for accepting new devices.
* As of 3/17/16 we now have official builds
Do I need to unlock the bootloader?
* Yes.
Upgrade from CM-12.1 ?
* Tools have been put in place to make upgrading from 12.1 nightlies smooth however backups are always recommended. Make a backup and attempt upgrade from 12.1 -> 13.0. Make sure to Flash 6.0 gapps at the same time. 6.0 only applies the proper permissions for system apps on first boot.
* If the above fails to load smoothly, restore your backup, take the necessary backups of apps and such and make a clean flash upgrade instead.
EXTERNAL SDCARD in M
* There were major changes in AOSP in the handling of storage.
* Two options :
(1) used as external storage. Removable, plug and play storage like we all know and love.
(2) used as Adoptable storage. non removable, Sdcard becomes an extenstion of your /data partition. Removing Sdcard will cause signifigant data loss.
* On first boot you are presented with the option to choose how to handle your sdcard. CHOOSE WISELY
* read more about this feature in this article from android central
Green lines on Pixelmaster camera/Snapchat
* In the Asus camera app disable "Optimizations", this should clear green lines/distorted pictures here.
* In Snapchat, issue is far less intrusive and there is no workaround.
FM Radio
* Currently this is unsuported. As of yet we have not managed to figure out how Asus made this feature work. Should we figure that out We'd love to support it but until then it is not a high priority issue to resolve. ** UPDATED** I found some source code for the FM radio implementation but it's clearly marked as proprietary and unuseble by us at this time.
Call Recording
Native Call Recording is a feature that while only legal in some countries, has become very popular on CM.
Currently we do not have full audio HAL source for Intel devices and have no way to implement this in CM for this device.
C-APPS
They're are currently no C-APPS packages for CM-13. Due to the way M handles system app permissions this is not likely to be available at any time in CM13.

Updates issues and notes on upgrading from cm-12.1 .
RIL connectivity is not very good right now, requires manual setup on most sims. Clean install w/gapps is preferred, but CM team goes to great lengths to make sure upgrade path is smooth so a flash-able update from 12.1 nightly "should " work fine. Just make sure to flash your gapps w/ROM prior to rebooting. Flashing gapps later is not something that is going to work well for you.

No, its not ready yet.

I've installed the ROM and this is the bug I've found.
1. First picture from camera is black
2. CM file manager need root to access SD card
3. If you're trying to view image from camera gallery will hang.
Installed tonight, have been trying to get to build on my VirtualBox for a few days, getting stuck on my noobness. Runs dang smooth for an experimental build. RIL, Bluetooth, WIFI both on 2.4g and 5.0g, and Camera all work, only FC I've received was in trying to access IMS settings, but I imagine that is because we do not have full IMS support for this device yet. My thanks for remaining our maintainer bryan2984, I would say this build is ready for the flip to Nightly status. I will continue to test and play. Kudos man!
Running 11/11 build, definite butta. Definitely ready for nightlies here.

The changelog page linked simply says device not supported. Are nightlies going to start rolling out soon or am I missing something? I'm quite excited to try this but am not willing to go back to stock to flash it.
I will agree about the 11/11 build. Things are working great. The screen is not turning off when I answer a phone call though and auto brightness is not working very well (the screen is very dark) but it isn't a big issue. Maybe it is an issue with the proximity sensor or something.
Everything else is smooth.

You don't need to go back to stock in order to flash this. When he says not to flash it over cm13 he is talking about dirty flashing. No matter what rom you're using right now the steps are the same. Reboot to recovery, make a backup, wipe data system dalvik and cache, then flash the rom & Gapps and reboot.

:good: Running 11/11 here also, runs very well. Problems so far:
Screen does not turn off when answering a call
Auto brightness makes the screen very dim
Apps do not rotate into full screen
Accelerometer doesn't seem to work. Downloaded GPS Status & Toolbox and ran a diagnostic, sensors were not found.
I wonder why d851 isnt getting nightlies yet
Hopefully soon. I'd like to keep using this, but the screen rotation problem is becoming bothersome
Cm14.1 - 11-23-16
No nightlies yet, but in the meantime, here's a new build. It should fix the sensor issues some of you were having.

Awesome, downloading now. I'll test and let you know. Thanks!
Works great!
Proximity sensor working
Adaptive brightness works better
Auto rotate working
Accelerometer and sensors are found now and seem to be working
Installed the ROM today just as a test-bed for the LG QuickRemote. Trying to duplicate a problem someone had elsewhere (CM14.1 on a non-G3 LG).
Didn't really kick the tires but most things are working well.
The aforementioned issue with the File manager is still there. It and the built-in root aren't playing well with each other. Does that also happen with SuperSU?

If you want many ROMs then do not buy another Samsung. Their closed sources and locked bootloaders make ROM development kinda hard.
Thank you @side

ok @side, first of all I'm occasionally getting 'silent calls' that persist until a reboot. Do you need a log for that or you already know how to solve it?

Why arent you make a thread for mokee rom? Sorry if my question isnt related with this thread.
Amazing job!
I've flashed the latest version and tested it today. Runs really really smooth. Amazing job! :good:
There is a problem with the internal mic(s). It works only for sim calls. I tried recording a video and also I did a video call but there was no audio recording from the mic(s). But instead I connected a headset, and the mic audio from the headset worked.
I'll still use this rom as my daily driver, I just can't stand MIUI!
Looking forward for future updates

Maybe pocket mode doesn't work well with fpc fingerprint sensor. My device uses goodix so I blindly implemented for fpc.
When screen is black and proximity sensor is covered, fingerprint sensor will stop work, this is expected behavior. Can be disabled in Settings->Additional buttons. goodix works as expected but idk how it works with fpc.
Thank you for making the rom. Hope Mi Note 3 will have the sub forum soon!

Hey there, I flashed this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74893764&postcount=1431 and it works, kinda. I mean the portrait mode works , but right after you take the photo, the app crashes but the photo is still saved.
Update: I flashed the latest version (05/02) and the mic works. I also deactivated "Prevent accidental wake-up" and the fingerprint works all the time, and also the battery life seems to have improved, or it might be just me
Amazing job. Thanks a ton @dianlujitao !

GAPPS Installation
LineageOS Team have recommendations about GAPPS
Here are the most important two copied from LineageOS WiKi:
If you opt to use Open GApps, they offer a variety of sizes of packages that include and overwrite different apps. We only recommend package sizes up through nano. If you use a larger package, we can not guarantee that everything will function on your device, as in many of these cases our included apps are overwritten in favor of the Google App equivalents.
Google apps should be installed via recovery immediately after installing LineageOS. If you reboot into LineageOS before installing Google apps, you must factory reset and then install them, otherwise expect crashes.
Patches
Patches you need to apply to the source code to get the same functionality as in my builds. All patches are actual as of Jun 24, 2022.

Those issues you mention don't seem to be related to this ROM. I just flashed this ROM on my N5 and my TWRP did not get overwritten nor did my partition sizes get reverted to the stock sizes. I don't know what has gone wrong on your side.

Magisk v21.2 installs and works without any issues. Makes sure you flash an up to date version of Magisk, redownload it if doesn't install.
Yes, thank you. I was using a bit older build that didn't work.

Maybe but judging from what he said I think he says that his TWRP got overwritten and his partitions got reverted to the stock sizes right after flashing the ROM. So it looks like he did something wrong or doesn't read what the setup asks him...
Wow amazing a lot of thanks for this rom
Latest build ( lineage-18.1-20210109 ) seems to be stuck in a forever-boot-loop.
Here booting well
Having no boot problems with 20210109 comming from 17.1-20201231
It doesn't work with fresh install (just a constant boot loop), but updating from 20210108 to 20210109 works.

My tester said that everything works fine after clean installation as well as after update. But there is a problem with latest test package of opengapps. Device can't boot. So if u used opengapps then this is your problem.
Anyway before posting such reports try to perform a clean flash of the ROM without additional packages (gapps/magisk/mods)
I haven't used my Nexus 5 in a few years and now I would like to update it to android 10, in particular your LineageOS 17.1.
But being many years since the last update I was wondering if my recovery, kernel and radio were compatible with android 10. Would you be able to suggest which recovery, which magisk version, which kernel and radio to install? Maybe kernel and radio now come bundled with the OS (?)
Lastly, there is any peculiar step for a clean installation procedure?
I tried to search on the thread beforehand, but couldn't find the answers. Sorry if you already answered my questions.
Thanks a lot for the your time and effort!
