Samsung S9 Question - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I ran into some malware on my PC and my phone somehow wound up with it too. So what's happening is when my device is hooked up to any device it automatically pairs 2 separate devices. One is the phone and one is called a Bluetooth LE(Low energy) 1927237798 etc. I have the snapdragon qualcomm phone and the canadian variant with Fido. I was looking around in developer settings and I do not see any OEM unlock.. Is there any way to flash the phone without it?
I need to flash the phone because the malware persists through factory data reset. I can't access any files that are relating to this bluetooth device and I have a feeling there's an embedded profile behind the screen that I see. I also noticed the script that ran put in a virtual SIM and draws mobile data when I am not hooked up to wifi. This bluetooth LE device automatically connects to surrounding bluetooth devices and infects them with whatever payload and it's like a super virus/worm from Russia/China I believe since the researcher told me some of the payloads on the PC were in russian language. Anyways, some help would be wonderful because my phone is infecting everything...
Also notably there are a string of nested file folders with no files in them. I am unable to delete them, all I have been able to do is move them up folders to the parents and try deleting but they always come back and there are a lot with really weird names and ^43%HlLuy etc.
I just hope to be able to flash stock firmware without the OEM unlock in order to wipe the old data that was changed by the malware in the providers area/root area.(No the phone was not previously rooted - I think it's not possible, but they got into protected folders and edited files somehow. I'd love to know how)
Thanks for your assistance. I have rooted a phone or two in my day but I can't remember if I can just flash stock firmware or even the best place to source it.

Doing a clean flash using ODIN should hopefully resolve. But you must do a clean flash using CSC file not HOME_CSC. OEM unlock is not needed.

Thank you so much. I will hunt down the right files and get this sorted.

[Q] Restoring IMEI i747 ATT

So I hope this thread isn't too useless. I've been researching how to restore my imei after losing 4g signal when my phone randomly (just sitting there on the desk, not touching it), decided to get stuck in a reboot loop.
Here's my specs:
Network: AT&T
ROM: CyanogenMod 11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-d2lte
Modem: UCUEMJB
Recovery: ClockworkMod 6.0.4.3
Device Model: SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
Product Code: Not Active
PDA Version:
Baseband Version: I747UCUEMJB
CSC Version:
Kernel Release: 3.4.104-cyanogenmod-g9f57632
Kernel Version: #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 11 22:15:56 PST 2014
ROM Build: d2uc-user 4.3 JSS15J I747UCUEMJB release-keys
Android Version: 4.4.4
BusyBox Version: 1.22.1
SU Binary Version: 2.40:SUPERSU
So here's what I've learned. My IMEI was lost due to a weird Samsung backup procedure that backed up my /efs folder with essentially a blank copy of important information. I have my IMEI, but writing it to the phone is very difficult. From this tutorial I learned to download QPST, and somewhere else I heard about EFS Professional.
So I tried to use EFS Professional first, and have been able to connect my phone (Had to install adb first via the official android sdk). I was able to make a backup of my efs folder. I was also able to change the usb settings to DIAG + MODEM + ADB. Then I launched the Qualcomm NV Tools. From there, by unchecking "Send SPC" and "Read Phone" I was able to connect to the phone, but any other button I pressed didn't accomplish anything except disconnecting the phone again.
This is when I turned to QPST. I knew from EFS Professional which COM port my phone was using each time, and I added the COM ports to the QPST Configuration program for listening. But my phone was never listed as available in the ports tab, nor was it listed in my device manager under COM ports. I tried using the RF NV Item Manager anyway, entering in my IMEI "backwards" with an 8 in the first line and an "a" after the first real number in my IMEI, but my phone was never really connected, so of course nothing happened.
I learned this was probably because I have no IOTHiddenMenu / Qualcomm USB Settings Menu / whatever you want to call it with USSD codes, because I'm using an AOSP ROM (Cyanogenmod). This thread and this thread were useless in enabling DIAG mode, because of broken links and scripts that no longer work on newer versions of CM.
My next plan is to change ROMs to a TouchWiz ROM, but I haven't found a good one yet, especially considering I've upgraded my bootloader and I know that if I flash a ROM with a downgraded bootloader, I'll definitely brick my phone. So is there a ROM I can use with an upgraded bootloader that won't brick my phone and will allow me to enter DIAG mode so that I can connect to QPST via a COM Port, use the RF NV Item Manager, and put in my old IMEI? Or am I just going about this all wrong?
You do have to be on a TW ROM with a stock dialer for ussd codes to work. Based on everything you posted you should be on the mjb boot loader, but confirm that first. Enter this into a terminal or adb shell:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
If you are on an mjb bootloader, then this ROM should work for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47816011&postcount=18. It's a rooted deknoxed at&t stock mjb.
Good luck.

You probably already discovered this in your research, but just in case. When you get your imei problem solved, before flashing something other than a TW ROM, enter this in a terminal or adb shell:
Code:
su
reboot nvbackup
That will fix Samsung's whoops and give you a working efs backup partition instead of a blank one.
Thanks! I'll try this and get back.

You were right about the bootloader - when I looked up the ro.bootloader property, it spit back what I thought was my modem identifier, I747UCUEMJB - so yes, MJB. I'll get a chance to flash the new ROM tomorrow or the next day and see how it goes.
So, two steps forward and three steps back. I did install the new ROM. Initially, it appeared to work, because I was able to dial *#7284# to access the service mode menu and change UART to MODEM, and then dial *#0808# to access the USB Settings menu and change that to RMNET+DM+MODEM. After that, the phone showed up under COM5 in the Device Manager. I opened up QPST Configuration and added COM5 (labelled it "COM5") under ports. However, the phone never showed up (Phone column read "No Phone").
I then tried EFS Professional, but it was unable to detect the phone. I opened up the command line and tried an adb shell, but it didn't connect. Of course, the phone was in RMNET+DM+MODEM mode, not and ADB mode. I then went back into USB settings, changed it to DM+MODEM+ADB, and reconnected the phone. The phone wasn't detected by the computer, and hasn't been since.
I've restarted the phone and the computer multiple times (Windows 7 32 bit), uninstalled the phone drivers, reinstalled them in two different versions, uninstalled and reinstalled QPST (removing the relevant registry entries in between installs), and went through a number of combinations of settings on the phone. I tried with UART set to MODEM and PDA, with USB settings set to DM+MODEM+ADB, RMNET+DM+MODEM, MTP, and MTP+ADB. I made sure superuser was installed correctly and that developer mode was enabled. I still have not gotten the phone to charge in that USB port or show up in Device Manager in any way, even though the USB port on the computer still functions (can access flash drives from it). I plan to do some more googling and troubleshooting about this, but I haven't had the time to yet. On Wednesday I'll hopefully have a minute to try using my work laptop to access the phone. I think once I get the phone to be recognized via USB again I'll be able to have QPST Configuration recognize it, then I'll be able to use that RF NV Item Manager to enter in the new IMEI.
Also, in potentially unrelated news, my install of Titanium Backup is unable to recognize any apps I backed up, even ones that have been previously restored. It sees them in the backup folder (backup folder location says this folder contains 52 backups), but no apps wee listed in the backup/restore tab. Maybe this has something to do with the mount namespace separation setting in SuperSU? I'll test that later.
Some newer ROMs will install but not give you cell service without the newest bootloader and modem.
Try flashing the last release of CM11. I would not touch the bootloader, modem, or EFS folder until you try an older ROM.

Thanks for chiming in, but I don't understand how this applies. I was on CM11 when my IMEI was removed. When you lose your IMEI, the main symptom is that you can't connect to 4g anymore, and you're stuck on EDGE, which is what happened in my case. I can in fact make calls and send texts, and even load web pages without wifi. It's just slow and prone to call dropping.
As for your advice to install an older ROM, I just flashed a stock ROM, the one linked above. It didn't cause my current lack of USB connection, because I had a USB connection for a while until I changed the UART and USB settings.
I definitely will not touch the bootloader - I've been warned about the dangers of downgrading from an MJB bootloader. I'm not sure what you mean by not touching the modem, but I'm going to assume it's as scary/difficult as the bootloader, so I'll be sure to stay away from changing that too.
As far as not touching the EFS folder, as far as I see it, that's my only way out of this hole, because my end goal is to replace the IMEI that I randomly lost last week, and that's part of the EFS folder in some way that hasn't been explained to me (although I know it has to do with NV settings, maybe some file called nvdata.bin that I've never found, or the /EFS/IMEI folder?). So I think I have to ignore that bit of advice, unless you can give me a good reason to change my goal in all this.

I should note that I took a look at my EFS folder while writing this last post, and it's completely empty now. So that's fun.
I suggested flashing back to an older ROM because you made some changes since your original post.
I suggested not touching the bootloader, modem, and EFS because flashing an incompatible bootloader/modem combination can hard brick the phone.
Since your bootloader and modem match, I'm out of suggestions other than perhaps visiting a repair shop to have it fixed.

Thanks for the clarifications. I did visit a shop to see if they could fix it, and all I got were blank stares and people who don't want to deal with IMEI repairs. So back to my own attempts! I realized a couple days ago that my problem in connecting to the computer is that I've developed a crack on my phone's USB port. Also, I think my home desktop's messed up. So with a nice, sturdy cable I installed all the necessary program on my work laptop (Samsung Drivers, ADB, ES Professional, and QPST just for fun). I tried ES Professional first and by using the Qualcomm NV tools I was able to restore my IMEI! I rebooted the phone and now by dialing *#06# I see my IMEI followed by "/ 17".
So now onto the next problem: Still no 4g signal. Under Connections > More Networks > Mobile Networks, there are some errors. I only have one APN, named "ATT Phone" with an APN of "phone" and an MMSC of mmsc.mobile.att.net, and under network operator it simply says "Default Setup". Some research later, I realized this is a common problem, and I guess it has to do with my NV Data being messed up. Obviously, item 550 (0x226) is correct, which I was able to verify using a program called NV-items-reader-writer, but something else is screwed up. Peoplearmy has released a tool that can restore a backup up QCN file, which of course I don't have, so I'm in the process of seeking help from a generous soul who has an app that might help me. Apparently I could also use someone else's NV Items backup, replacing their IMEI with my own. But, I don't have one, so I'm stuck waiting on someone to be nice to me
I did try the method posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808408&page=16
But it didn't work. This thread and this thread and this thread were helpful to me for research.

I got it! Problem solved!!
So what I realized after going back over those research threads quickly was that I was using Peoplearmy's QCN generator incorrectly. Here's how I fixed it.
1. Opened QPST, followed directions here to connect my phone and start up QPST Software Download.
2. Having already injected my IMEI, I used the backup tab to make a backup.
3. I opened Peoplearmy's SG3QCNGenerator and imported the QCN file that QPST just created. I left "inject IMEI" unchecked, since I already had my original IMEI. I clicked Save As to set the directory and name of the new file, and clicked the Verify IMEI button that appeared to verify that it was correct.
This was the step I had missed - because I never had a valid QCN file to import, I never was able to create a new QCN file. My error in thinking was that, since my current QCN file was obviously messed up, I couldn't use it to make a new QCN file, but that's the whole point of this software.
4. Once I had the new QCN file, I went back to QPST's Software Download program and used the Restore tab. The QCN file generated by Peoplearmy's tool didn't match my model number, but I approved it anyway. It restored the QCN file correctly, but it had an error when it tried to reset the phone.
5. I rebooted the phone manually, and I now have 4G signal!
So, to summarize the difficulties I had:
1. I didn't make an nvbackup before I flashed CM a year ago, and it didn't hurt me until now.
2. I lost my IMEI and couldn't restore it because 1) I was on CM, which stopped me from putting my phone in DM + MODEM + ADB mode and 2) The computer/cable I was using to work on my phone, for whatever reason, were being stupid.
3. I didn't understand that in order to fix my phone I needed to restore my IMEI and repair my nv items (.qcn file)
4. I didn't realize that I could use Peoplearmy's tool to take a messed up nv items qcn file, fix it, and restore it to my phone.
All the tools I ended up needing: Samsung Drivers, ADB, ES Professional, QPST, and Peoplearmy's SG3 Data Restorer. Hope this helps someone else out there.
:good: thanks for posting fix.

A brief history:
Several weeks ago my stock Gingerbread G2's touchscreen started dying. Replacing the touchscreen didn't solve the problem. I was able to continue using it via the keyboard for a little while and, in the meantime, enabled USB Debugging (thank the stars!) while I waited for a replacement phone to arrive. I could still access some functions using the keyboard & thumbpad, although usability was limited due to the inability to back out of an application. Cue lots of battery pulls to restart at the homescreen (a pox on designers who forget one of the fundamental rules of UI: It should always be possible to go back using the current input device!).
Then the screen started a somewhat frazzled HTC image loop during boot, shortly after I started testing ADB & fastboot. Curiously it was still booting the underlying OS, as evidenced by the various chimes telling me I had messages etc, and I could still access it via ADB.
My new phone arrived (a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. I still would prefer a proper keyboard though. Another pox on designers/manufactures who focus on marketing fads instead of functionality. I don't give a rat's arse if my phone is only 2.48291mm thick and has a screen the size of my 1st laptop. I want something small enough to use in one hand, and that has a hardware keyboard) & happily downloaded my contacts from the Borg....I mean, Google, but not notes or SMS/MMS etc. Leading to today....
I tried Sony's transfer app, but without screen viewing let alone touchscreen ability it wouldn't work (PC version, due Android version on the problem phone wasn't acceptable). Ditto problems with other root exploits. Even trying to use a recovery image on the SD card wouldn't work due to the non-root status. The recovery menu would only accept a stock image. An overriding consideration was that I didn't want to just gain root by what ever method, but I wanted to preserve my notes & sms/mms data, so fastbooting a factory image wasn't satisfactory - as far as I could tell, that would delete everything. After over a week of 0300, 0400, 0530 bed times while reading & trying the methods given in some huuuge number of XDA threads and some other websites, last night I was able to get temp root using the fre3vo exploit! Yay! At one point I had 70 threads open. It was an XDA-dev. thread that gave me the exploit though. Still couldn't do a simple Linux/Unix cp command in ADB shell to save the data but at least the file system was accessible now. Bloody frustrating!
Anyway, a bit more Googling & XDA-ing to find file locations & command formats and tonight I was able to use the ADB pull command to download the whole of the /data directory to my PC. Data saved! Even better, the Linux distro on my PC already has SQlite software to open the files. Even more yay!
I haven't tried to upload to my Xperia Z3C, but I will soon. Meanwhile my data is now available in my PC so phone access isn't as important anymore.
Some thoughts on what I went through:
Manufacturers: You do your customers a vast dis-service by making it so hard to salvage the data.
Service providers: Ditto, due to your insistance on locking down the system on the phones you sell
XDA contributers: I couldn't have done this without you, however.....it would have been easier if you *always* specified what would change/be wiped when you describe your exploit/change/recovery process. I was hesitant to try some methods due to not knowing if my data would be wiped in the process.
And after all that: Who the hell would ever want a phone that wasn't rooted? I don't even install Linux OS on my systems unless root can be gained (Ubuntu & Mint, I'm looking at you! Sudo isn't sufficient...) so I've learnt a lesson on my phone. If only I'd rooted it while it was still fully functional!
Next task? Rooting my Z3C before something goes ' bzzzzt!' on it!

Sprint note 4 n910p (boot failure) recovery image from working note

I have created boot recovery files based on Samsung's pdf titled "[14-96]_Boot_Recovery_Guide_Qualcomm_APQ8084_[includes_SM-N910F]__Rev_3.0"
These were done on a 32gb clas 10 microSD, they are imaged to a file via Norton Ghost portable (GHO file.
If your note doesn't boot, that might help. (No charging light, PC detects as QHUSB 9008 mode etc)
Download these GHO files and norton ghost portable.
Insert an empty microSD, Open norton ghost > Local>Image>to Disk the choose your microSD.
Your disk capacity might show up less, but don't worry, you can restore later on with Minitools (Check online on how to use).
I have also created an eMMC backup image of n910p running MM (PE2 build version)
It's a 2gb file, on unzipping with 7zip, around 4gb. (While creating, the output from adb shell is shown in the pick. Not sure if it's an error... is it supposed to be bigger? it was on a clean stock but rooted.. no user content)
Follow this guide http://www.droidsavvy.com/unbrick-qualcomm-mobiles/ to check it's in new 9008 mode.
Then my file might work for you.
All files are at https://mega.nz/#F!qRAGBZDY!_k24QWYaA0We2IQoAgE2Ng
Hi,
and Thanks
Well I have tried these Gho files but no joy. Ghost says file sizes are 19. After writing to the mirco SDCard there is no spaced used and 3 folders that are blank.
I am looking for these files below to recover to use QPST (QFIL) / MiFlash , maybe you can extract them from your device but I have no idea how to do it.
MPRG8084.hex
-8084_msimage.mbn
-rawprogram_32GB.xml
-patch0.xml
-Settings.xml
Thanks

And my phone its same
I hope to find way to solve it
i have also same issue does any one solve ?
an interesting read... curious, under what circumstances would this be more convenient / more practical than a simple odin flash?
is this supposed to recover hard bricks / bad bootloaders?
Took N910P back to Sprint.
I experienced my problem when I was using my secondary (not activated, clean esn) Sprint N910P as an MP3/MP4 player. After the last update which i don't know... it would not boot into the OS after the Sprint splash screen, so it would continue to do this constantly after removing the battery and rebooting even after optimizing apps screen. I researched and found XDAs forums with a lot of How tos, troubleshooting and workarounds. Long story short the Reactivation Lock was not disabled and even using the techniques supplied here I did not have any success.
I took it to the Sprint store and they deactivated my Primary LGV20 and activated the Note 4 so they could service it and then flash it to the current OS. They couldn't flash it and were going to have to send if off to replace the motherboard or replace the phone. The tech told me that this has been happening to Sprint Note 4 phones after an update and since it was a update error there will be not charge to me. Now I had insurance on the Note 4 for six years prior to upgrading to the LGV20, so they had to activate it to be able to service it. I will update their findings when i receive my phone in 7 to 10 days.
I pray this helps someone in my situation, as for me it is bittersweet. I didn't fix my phone but I found a new forum and I can tell everyone here is as passionate about what they do as I am!

My XZ1 compact story

So I bought a new phone since my old Onyx (One+ X) died (cracked screen and charging port is getting iffy). And finally I decided on this one, a cheap Chinese docomo branded one off Ebay.
I was so exited when it arrived, the UPS truck was at my gate when I got home that day, ready to leave, but the driver was nice enough to wait and give me my package then and there. Pheew.
Well, now to my, bootloader unlocking, recovery flashing, after market os installation and rooting story...
Bootloader:
The phone was supposed to be unlocked, and I guess that only meant SIM unlocked, because the service menu read "Bootloader unlock allowed: no". Damn.
A few Duckduckgo searches later, turned up I needed the "S!Unlock tool" which I found a copy off online, but username/password fields needed to be filled in, and I think I found a pirated s/n which didn't seem to work, (might have if I had tried harder).
But since it was just over £22 at https://networkunlocking.com/ I thought I could spare that on the off chance it worked. I was very surprised when it finally did, truth, I needed a few tries. And it actually did turn that service menu's pesky "no" to a thumbs-up "yes". Yay!
So now, pulling the cable, holding "volume up" and inserting cable for that blue light goodness, and running the "flashtool.exe -i 0x???? oem unlock bootloader 0x????????????" comand.
Not so fast, that doesnät work with newer flashtool versions...
Finding the old one from my Xperia Arc days and runnning it again, Yay!
(Wish I had read ahead and done that temporary root trick to rip my DRM codes off my phone first. But I don't plan to revert to stock, and I gather (might be wrong) that the DRM is only needed for stock roms, and not Lineage OS and such.)
Recovery (TWRP):
Now the problems start for real, getting into recovery was a **** and a half. Most guides for the phone says to push "volume up" multiple times during the boot-process. This turns out to be plain wrong. The actual button combo is holding "volume down" and "power" button together atleast until the screen goes blank after the unlocked bootloader warning.
Now, I wanted 17.1 on the phone and the recommended TWRp is 3.1.1 or something, and this works to install lineage fine, but don't forget to erase /data partition as I did. Stupid mistake that made wifi fail miserably, and probably a lot of other stuff, that I never tried before noticing my mistake.
However trying to get my own set of ringtones on the phone turned out to be another issue, going back into recovery when I noticed my ringtone.zip had failed. Obviously the media folder had moved since los 15.1,so no wonder right? Turns out it wasn't the only problem. TWRP 3.1.1 (or something) failed to unencrypt the root partition, so changing anything via recovery was a lie. fortunately the latest recovery, 3.5.2_9 did. So after installing that everything was rosy peaches.
Rooting:
SuperSU? forget it.
Magisk? yeah, but how? No really good step by step guide out there, except download from the github page, but what version?
A little trial and error, tried with the arm64 version and it turned out to be the right one. (Sometimes you just get it right on the first try...)
Renamed the apk to .zip put it on the phones memory, entered recovery and installed the zip, et voi effing la, Magisk root installed.
Root checker verifies root status, TitaniumBackup and RootExplorer works. Yes, my phone is playing ball.
Final notes:
This above looks simple right? In fact this was a two day process since the guides are surely lacking for this phone, a lot of trial and error, the greatesthurdle was getting into Recovery, until I found the right button combo I accidently managed to enter it once making me believe I had the right combo and something was wrong with the phone. 4 hours or so wasted trying different versions rebooting and flashing. Getting back my Viber messages turned out to be a problem to, TitaniumBackup got the messages back, but the db had references to my old images on my old phone, and probable pointed at the wrong directory so trying to send images either from gallery or take new photos crashed the app. Solution, backup the messages to my google account, uninstall and reinstall viber and restore from that backup. TitaniumBAckup is good but no magic bullet, it's a ***** that we have to rely on Google for backups though, I am allergic to the cloud, something about it makes my skin crawl.
Otherwise I like the phone, it says docomo on the back, something I can live with. The Chinese vendor even supplied one glass screen protector for the phone and a clear soft plastic case, in case I wanted some extra protection. I only wish there was a screen protector that had the same surface as the one that was on the phone in the box, that slightly opaque cloudy feel was so nice on my finger.
Can I recommend this phone? Nah, if noone writes a step by step guide that will cut down the time I spent on making this phone palpatable, I can't. But if you, like me, don't mind to tinker and don't want a phablet or spend way too much for the privilege to get a screen size you don't want, then sure. But why do we have to get them from China?
My trusty xz1 compact is slowly dieing on me and i am looking for a replacement how much did you pay for yours and is a really new or just refurbished ?

This Phone is in the mobile Sphere already ancient. Don't expect to get any help here or newer hot to guides.
my biggest problem is the fastboot recognition of my Windows. If this would work reliable i could better flash the phone but getting the right driver is a kind of roulette for this phone.

Also had a non-connecting fastboot issue on Windows until I ran into this guide showing me it was not about a driver but an installation method:
How to install Sony Xperia Drivers Manually (Super Easy Guide)
Step-by-Step guidelines to install Sony Xperia Drivers Manually (this method can be used on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10).

The phone completely refuses to boot?
Do you have recovery installed? If not, are you able to install it via fastboot on linux?

okay i will explain.
i had this common issue with this running out of internal space (13GB pictures i could not find, only 300MB left) and after looking into it i figured, that, due to my constant app installing and deinstalling, i had literrally thousends of little images (thumbnails, icons, you name it) that got not deintalled for whatever reason and clogged up my internal memory. So i made a Backup and decided to completly wipe and flash the newest lilac from Modpunk (18.1) and did a big Mistake here. i go into recovery and wiped EVERYTHING...without checking that recovery is untouched. then during the same session i installed the ROM and rebooted...so far all nice and dandy. Setting up the Phone, then get the newsest Gapps and then try to reboot into recovery to install them...well did i mentioned that i had wiped EVERYTHING? Well, there was no recovery anymore. Not my first rodeo i headbutt myself into the desk and spun up ADB/fastboot...only to run into the same problem i run everytime due to improper intalled driver i forgot already about. Longs story short: after some time handy refused to boot also into system.
Phone is now unbootable into any state, but Black screen fastboot over hardware buttons...
i COULD still try to make a blind fastboot flash after following the driver install instruction from above, but consider my lucky or clumsyness i will **** this up too and only waste time. and due to my current covid recovery i have not the energy nor the patient to diddle around with this sorry excuse of an absolute restrictive Phone and rather get me a S5 mini or something else that has no bootlock whatsoever and let you flash it from the very start.
i am plain running out of patient with sonys harassment.
/€: Also the constant "cannot get root" on a rooted phone is plain BS³. having permanent trouble to install adaway or use my sdcard proper is so friggin annoying that i now will search for a android version that got rid of this bull**** and will buy any phone that is suported by that ROM.
It is MY phone, and not Goolge nor the the phone company will dictade what i can or cannot install on it. i decide and i carry the risk, period. and the biggest security reason holds the phone anyway.
@muhschaf okay so it doesn't seem bricked. Pretty sure you just need to flash the recovery through fastboot and flash a ROM. Try that on Windows with the driver method; if that fails boot a Linux distro e.g. EndeavourOS, even from a USB without installing no adb/fastboot driver is necessary for Linux, it just works. You can do it.

i known, the question is more "i really want that?" like i said i struggle with this phone ever since. and i realized yesterday the problem is not the phone itself, it's the bull**** of androids security architecture. Google seems to be very prone to make sure that they can shove any amount of advertisements down your throat. Given that they earn their money with ad network it doesn't surprise me.
i came to the conclusion that in reality i want to have a reliable way to install ad away on any given phone i own. i archive similar things on my desktop with Firefox and umatrix and ublock. And what can is say: Having Advertisment fee Internet is a bliss and i not care a bit about "but the free stuff" and i incrisingly fury about my inability to archive similar things on my phone i rely quite a bit.
@muhschaf I get it but you know what they say: good things require effort. But I find that once I set my Android up, I'm happy to have done it.
In regards to ads, you can actually install uBO on Android Firefox now, and many other addons also.
So i gave it a try again and the result was that it detects now a "?" under fastboot but ADB can't see anything failing sucsequently to flash recovery. i am also seemingly unable to get even into hardware fastboot anymore. But could be quite possible that the battery is already drained again. so i recharge it the night.
4qx: i was going away from uBO several years ago. Wonder that he has survived the drain after his "whitelist" decision, but it seems like.
Adaway block advertisement in apps and this is mainly the feature i wanted, see advertisment have gotten out of the browser itself into the Base/apps systems (Android, Windows) and therefore the Adblocker have to go with it. under windows i can control the System itself pretty easy and throughoutly with Powershell and package debloating scripts or regedit. under Android i haven't this option and have to rely on app like adaway. This shortcoming is pretty frustraing for an "Open Source" OS
After nearly a Year i stumble upon something windows related and now i have finally my xz1c back:
Windows USB Hubs of ANY kind (Monitor USB Hubs, Powers external USB Hubs, hell sometimes even the PCH, that is technical also a USB Hub), can and sometime WILL prevent proper lowlevel access to devices like...USB Headsets (Logitech Pro X) and Mobile Phones in fastboot mode (xz1c).
To circumvent this you have to connect the phone to a USB Port on the Back of your PC Motherboard DIRECTLY. every other Port can have an USB Hub in between that alters your write or readout and therefore failed the flashing.

I need help with my Pixel.

I need help with my pixel (taimen), and I don't know what to do. In attempt of resizing partitions with help of parted, I somehow deleted all the partitions (even though it showed they were recreated successfully), and now the phone won't even boot to fastboot. Is there any way how to repair it? I've had it for long time and I don't feel like loosing it today.
There are a couple of other threads where a user posted firebase files that could be used with existing firmware. Those files and a copy of MiFlash on the PC may be able to restore the device, but only if it shows up as a Qualcomm USB loader in Windows. The only other alternatives are to pay Google to fix the problem or sell the unit for parts.
