Question battery hours screen and advice? - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

hi, I would like to buy Fold 4 but my fear is the screen hours are a bit short on average, how long does it last for you? and if there are more in-depth tips to extend the battery!

I get more than 20 hours of heavy work , with about 4.5 hours of screen on, This is my daily 'office' with three email accounts pushing real time emails , Wifi or 5G UC conncetivity at all times, big screen used about an hour of the the 4.5 to review and sign documents and use CRM tools that reqiure a bigger screen , when I do not have the laptop out of the bag, especially when traveling. No gaming, music, etc. but on the other hand I never use the 'power saving' mode. Here is a snapshot of my phone after it left the charger almost 9 hours ago, 3.5 hours screen on, 5.5 hours off but apps run in the background and 65% still avilable. I am on the phone on calls often, text, email, and use the big screen constantly, and never saw below 25% battery at the end of my day , 12-13 hours after my day starts. Of course , if all you want it to be playing games with 100% CPU utilization , big screen on , QHD 120 Hz refresh rate at all times, speakers on at 150% your experience might be different. This phone, IMHO, is more business like and does the job.

same here, with normal use I usually get 4,5 hours of screen on time with 8 hours or so of the screen off time. I think z fold 4 normal use will have 4 hours screen on time

I get 7 or 8 hours of SOT when using WiFi at home. Out & about on 5G I usually get around 6 hours of SOT.
I mainly browse the web, take calls and use WhatsApp. This is per 24 hrs inbetween charges. My phone goes into Airplane mode (with WiFi off) at bedtime.

[Q] 8.4 LTE Version - Is Battery acting weird or is it just me?

Hello everyone.
I currently own a Tab s 8.4 LTE version for exactly 40 days only. I began noticing battery being so weird last week so I will be direct and to the point as much as I can.
A week ago, I noticed that my battery isn't doing so well, I am just a med (sometimes heavy) tablet user ( I mainly chat, browse facebook, read articles, play some youtube videos and I play music as well) I had my battery charged to 100% before a car trip that lasted for around 4 hours, by the time I arrived to the destination, the battery was on 10% only.
Here is what I did on that trip:
1- Had Mobile network connected all the way (used it for chatting on whatsapp, facebook and reading some emails)
2- Listened to music for 45 mins.
3- Played 30 minutes of clash of clans.
When I arrived to my destination, I waited the tablet till it completely drain then I put it in charger ( I was astonished by the fact that when I instantly put the charger in, it read like 30% instead of 0 or 1%)
Anyway I charged it to 100% and went to test it by watching continuous non-stop 204 minutes of movie (Thats 3 hours 20 minutes) and I was happy that it only dropped from 100% to 67% with 50 percent brightness and (Wifi/Sync connected) then I played clash of clans, 15 mins of clash of clans dropped the battery from 67 to 53 so I was pretty much shocked (like 1 percent for every in-game minute!)
The third day I left it in standby mode to test if it drains unsually when it is idle, I left it for continuous 12 hours on 100% (Airplane mode on, no wifi, no sync) and it only dropped 3% in those 12 hours. I managed to acheive a 4h on screen and 1d 4h battery on time (Which made me pretty sure that the battery is not defective, may be just the reading is faulty)
I tested it today. Charged from ground zero up to 100% then I used it. My activity mainly was:
1- a lot of chatting (like 2 hours but not continuous) on whatsapp.
2- 45 mins of music and 15 mins on soundcloud.
3- 40 mins of Clash of Clans (drained my battery in a significant way)
4- Checking facebook notifications, gmail and browsing some websites on hourly timed intervals.
I managed only to get 5h screen on time and a total of 7h of battery on time. Screenshots in attachments.
More importantly, I used it from 100% till it drained to zero then I put it on charger, it automatically read 15%! (Happened to me before that it read 30% instead of zero or 1% then I drained it from 15% to zero again, put the charger and it read from zero%)
Please help me get answers for these 2 questions:
1- Do you think this battery is defective? I own this LTE tablet for only 1 month. Or do you think it only performs poor?
2- Does a game like Clash of Clans really drain it that fast? Like 1 percent charge for every minute or minute and half?
3- How long should it normally take to charge from zero up to 100%? Mine takes exactly 3 hours or 3 hours and less than 10 minutes. Is that okay? Or should it be longer?
Thank you
Can you go back this this thread and try what I said. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2809818. I dont want to copy and paste it again lol.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Honor 8 before depleting the battery.

I can get over 4h SOT. Nice!
I have been averaging 6 hour OT. Let keep in mind I do not have any social media apps on my phone Had all google services running such as google now, and had my location on battery saving mode. I usually run map for about 15-20 minutes on average.
Really impressed.
WiFi and LTE all the time on, WhatsApp and Skype protected, web surfing and other normal uses. Better than my old Honor7.
Of course never charged.
Edit: it took me over 7 hours before I had to put it to charge.
During my first charge cycle after I started using H8, I got 4 hrs of SOT with 50 hrs of standby time. I put it to charge with 21% battery remaining so it should have given in another hour I think. I am a light user.
Will update once I have tested it through more scenarios and heavy usage.
I let PC Mark Work 2.0 run overnight with the screen at ~25% brightness in Performance Mode. It was in Airplane mode because the benchmark says notifications can interrupt it and this was the first time since getting the phone I've had enough time to run it.
I put it on the charger a few minutes before I remembered to take the screenshot. It was at 18% when I looked at it.
I can use the phone for 2 days, which is definitely amazing. With that in mind, I usually get about 5-6 hours SOT. Brightness set to 30 percent, Many apps (incl Snapchat, Instagram and WhatsApp) are protected. I'm a student so I turn the Internet off for about 6 hrs per day because the Internet connection in the school is just to bad.
Connected to WiFi as often as possible.
Not many games (nearly never in fact) but heavy Whatsapp, Instagram and Snapchat use.
it seems that the phone can average 4hrs SOT for moderate to heavy usage which is very good
During about 2 days of usage I have 4-5h SOT so I could say that combined 18-19 standby and the SOT is what I have which is really nice after my BB Z10. Mostly FB, Messenger, BBM, Chrome, Youtube and photography.
Hello, I just gotta say the battery works really good with this phone. I'm really happy I picked the honor 8

I've seen it on the Screenshots above and I see it on my Honor 8 as well.. Why is does the software need much more battery than the hardware? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Here it's 6-9 hours of screen on, average a little over 7. Maybe I keep the brightness a little low, people tend to say that it's dark but it's comfy enough for me. I mostly use WiFi and the same apps that used to drain my Galaxy S4 before it was evening. Now I can go to bed with 50% to spare.
Around 4-5 depending on how many games I play . I use it quite heavily as a phone too (I know, shock) so I'm more than content.
Standby time was close to two days
Played games etc. Took it from loading at 6.10 am ended at 22:00 with 4℅. Love the battery <3
Here the screens:
It depends on the network usage !
If you use cell data you're ready for 3-4 hours SOT
If you use Wi-Fi you can hope for around 7 hours
Yes.

Got 6 hours sot on my first usage starting at 90%, wifi only - internet/youtube/light gaming
Not impressive but decent, not as terrible as I thought sd820 was going to be aside from it being hot
Could be better but with all of the battery saving features you get, I don't have any issues with how long the battery lasts with the screen on.
You can also change the resolution to FHD. It will increase the SOT and FPS while playing videogames Great new feature :good:

6 hours of heavy usage with LTE would be very impressive, S7E exynos can pull off 6-7 hours in that regard.
6 hours with wifi and light usage is pretty typical even for mid range phones, my 7 years old iphone can pull off similar results in airplane mode.

No ****, eh? I am beyond happy with the SOT with this phone... hell, the battery period. My POS LG G3 couldn't go more than 3.5 hours SOT with light to moderate usage.

Mine clocked 8 hrs with wifi, you tube, moderate gaming and online music.
I've managed about 17hrs SOT on my Note 5 once*
*Attatched to a battery pack lol
Snapdragon model note 7. Had 6 hours 30 minutes of screen on time, 3 more hours of standby, WiFi, Bluetooth, WiFi calling, and AOD all active, location set to battery saving, none of the power saving features active, spent lots of time in Firefox and Facebook messenger, watched a full movie from SD card at 100% brightness, sketched in autodesk sketchbook with the s pen for maybe an hour, and I still have 35% remaining. Been at full bars of reception all day, though, so no drain from low signal. Either way, I'm impressed. Especially coming from my HTC one m9, haha. And the phone stayed pretty cool all day, especially compared to the m9.
Hi, I'm looking at around 5 hours of SOT.
I believe I am experiencing severe battery drain on my phone. My phone doesn't last a complete day without needing a recharge.
Here are some quick stats.
- My phone has been on for 6h20m. Screen on for 2h17mn. Battery left is 58%. Although, I've turned on MAX power saving mode for about 1 hour or two today to ensure that my phone can last throughout the day.
- I usually have screen brightness at 50% or lower.
- According to the device maintenance app, and depending on past usage I have enough juice for another 6h50mn. That would lead to screen time of about 4 to 5 hours.
- I'm using dark themes whenever possible to reduce screen battery consumption.
- I've played a game for about 10 to 20 minutes today
- I've noticed that when my screen is on, every couple of minutes (maybe 5 minutes at the most) my battery percentage will drop by 1%.
- I mainly use my phone for gReader (RSS Reader with dark theme modee), WhatsApp (with black wallpaper) and the Economist.
- The top 3 items that have consumed my battery so far are: Screen (33%), Android OS (21%), Andoroid System (16%)
- I'm using two SIMs on my phone
- Believed to be Exynos. Bought it from the Middle East
- Always on Dispaly has 4 clocks on at all times. Probably using more battery.
Am I a heavy user hence why my battery is running out quickly. Or are there certainly issues with the battery?
Thanks for your feedback
I feel as if I'm getting horrible battery life as well. Been hard to tell being that I have horrible signal at work, if it doesn't improve with real world usage this weekend I'm going to phone att for a replacement.
SOT is a useless measure on it's own, doesn't tell anything about the battery life. I doubt you can get 6h SOT and that your phone can last until the end of the day. Yesterday I got about 4h SOT and around 14h uptime before I plugged it in again. Can't say that I am unhappy with that.
5 hours of playing Deemo and have 14% remaining, probably going to refund it for a S7E with exynos instead or keep it and sell it before S8 launches
Wifi only, brightness was around 30% auto. Not a gpu intensive game at all so not as impressive as it sounds. I believe the S7E exynos did 5 hours of pokemon go with max brightness.
I'm getting great battery. Better than my Nexus 6P, which I didn't expect. Seemed to run hot day 2, not day 3. Not...sure why. Love the power options, normally I hate to touch power saving.

Quoting myself here. Day 4 with the phone, 4:10 SOT with 18 h of on-battery time. Battery went down to 4%. Just a normal use, few videos, lots of music played (Deezer and Pandora), about 30m of Pokemon Go, news, etc. Once again, not unhappy with the results. I would prefer if I have another 5-10% left to account for the unexpected. Otherwise, all good.

Bought new Z play/kind of disappointed with the battery life

Hello all,
I bought a new Z play to replace my ageing phone, and I have mixed feelings about the battery life. The phone has received universal praise for its battery life, and while some of it is true in my case, I can't seem to get those high SoT numbers that everyone brags about.
It's very difficult for me to break the 6h SoT barrier, and I consider myself a light user: whatsapp, browsing, some reddit, and the occasional music (through headphones). I don't play any games, or perform heavy tasks. Also the phone is connected to WiFi 85% of the time, get decent signal, and the screen is set on auto-brightness.
Running latest version of the stock rom, and I performed factory reset + wiped cache + reset network settings countless times as per suggestions.
Attached some stats for 50% that I just took.
Is there something I'm missing?
Take it with a grain of salt, just because people brag about numbers does not mean they are real or obtainable by everyone. Battery life will vary for every user and phone. The time you have is in the acceptable range and I would not worry.
Yes, even I have never achieved the 8-9+ hrs of SOT that's I've seen in some threads. Based on my usage I get a minimum of 6.5hr SOT with the phone lasting a good 25-27 hours before I have to plug it back in.
Since the phone is new it might take a few cycles for the battery to truly show its stamina.
Those answer are definitely right. It all varies on the users. . Also please makes sure you have bluetooth and wifi scanning off. (Location> Scanning > Bluetooth & Wifi Scanning) Another factor is apps. Get rid of facebook and facebook messenger. Apps that use GCM eat battery like a range rover eats gas. I've hit 8--10 hr of SOT before. Let your phone get use to your daily activities. I believe it'll optimize itself over time.
It's normal.
I was also getting earlier 5-6 hrs SOT(When the device was new) but not I'm getting 8-9 hrs SOT.
So as your phone is new it might take few cycles for the battery to show its full stamina!
Cheers!!
Thanks for the replies and for putting my mind at ease.
Bluetooth and wifi scanning are off (forgot to mention that).
Anyway, I understand. Those insane SoT of 10+ are best case scenarios with careful use of the device. Still happy with my current capacity (anything which lasts until the next morning is great).
And yep, the phone manual (who reads those anymore), did mention the battery taking a few cycles before reaching its capacity.
Now, for a different issue. If I'd like to disable turbocharging/quickcharging my phone, would a USB C to A cable coupled with any charger (including the quickcharging ones) do the trick? Based on my understanding, the cable limits the chargining power, so any regular (quality) C to A cable should restore normal charging speeds even when using a fast charging charger. In case you're wondering why I'd like to do that, it's because the phone gets way too hot for my liking when using the Moto turbocharger and I'd like to reserve that for when necessary.
Well, guyz do have a point.
The screenshots are showing you have almost 3hrs SoT after day and a half. This is normal.
Those >10 hrs of SoT aren't achieved with careful usage. Coming from my experience, I got 10.5 hrs SoT with 10% battery left, BUT, in one day. My Moto can last up to 3 day with one charge, but in those 3 days I'll have maybe 4hrs SoT. So, in average, my Moto lasts up to 2 days with 6/7hrs SoT (I mostly use FB, Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, YT, Instagram, stock 6.0.1). It simply depends how you use it. That big, almost 11hrs SoT, I could only achieve on weekends, coz otherwise I don't have the time to stare in my phone so much.
On that other thing, Moto does get pretty hot while charging. And you're right, the cable does limit the charging power so it will probably work.
I was one of those users getting 10h SoT early on. But I was doing that inside a 24h usage window. Your 50% stats have you stretched out to like almost 3 days off charger. Idle time vs. screen on time is ALWAYS a trade-off.
I look at battery drain in terms of drain rate at idle, and drain rate with screen on. Early on I was seeing 6% drain per hour of screen on, and 1-1.5% per hour screen off. So basically 5 hours of idle time costs you 1 hour screen on. Those were my numbers on the original MM build. My battery life has gotten worse with every software update. I have NOT done a factory reset, mostly because I don't want the hassle and I still get a day off normal use with plenty of battery to spare. But I usually see 18h off charger and 3-4h SoT in a normal day, and that leaves me at 40-50% when I plug in.
Looking at your stats, if screen on costs you 6% per hour, you have 17% worth of screen on drain. That leaves 33% idle drain over 38 hours, or sightly less than 1% per hour idle. Seems pretty darn good to me.
Your cell signal is definitely not helping your battery life. Switch to 2g when on wifi, your signal bar should be full and it'll probably help your battery life.
Enjoy the fact that this phone lets you keep BT/WiFi scanning/Facebook/etc. on without having to worry whether or not you're going to make it a full day. I use all that stuff, have multiple live widgets updating, brightness at least half way, T-Mobile Digits running, and still make it a full day. Additionally, it's great to know that if you do have to make it 2-3 days with minimal usage because you don't have a charger handy, you can. However, I'm willing to bet that 99% of users are able to charge their phone daily. To those users, I say enjoy all the features and don't worry about it.
Really depends on the screen brightness...I can hit those number with my screen brightness turned down a good bit...probably around 30 percent and auto sync off...if i have brightness anywhere above 60 percent then battery life drops a good amount...still well enough to get me through a 12 hour work day but there is a difference

Question On the brand new OnePlus 9 Pro, there is a battery issue.

However, I'm having trouble with my battery. Without doing much with the phone, the battery fell to roughly 20% after 19 hours of complete charging.
I started with 85 percent this morning, then drove 600 kilometres while listening to music on Tidal. During that drive, I didn't look at a screen at all.
I spent a total of 27% of my time on various apps, including 4% on Tidal, according to the phone. Now that I've arrived at my location, I've eaten some meal and checked my phone, only to discover that it only has 23 percent battery life left. To be honest, I think this is a little excessive, and the battery doesn't seem to last even half a day when I use it.
I'm using full resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. AoD is turned off. The most recent software is available.
Hi Sanji, congrats on your new phone!
For me, I tend to power off my device for a few mins a couple times each month for consistency. Especially after the primary Google Assistant app updates (this one).
I am also using FHD and 120Hz refresh. I have AoD on for 15 hrs/day.
I turn off bluetooth & location when I'm not using them.
A typical day for me includes about 2-3 hrs screen on time (SoT) and 40-50% battery left when I go to bed. The screen is always the #1 draw.
Weak wifi or cell signals can contribute to rapid drain.
Hope this helps!
