Question Pixel watch hourglass icon? - Google Pixel Watch

I keep seeing on and off a white hourglass showing up on the watchface around the 6:00 location.
Googled, but cannot locate any info on what this icon means or how to correct whatever issue is causing it.
Any help/thoughts would be appreciated!
Andy

That means you have an unread notification. Swipe up to see it.

It does not mean that you have a notification. It means you have used a timer. You can open your timer app and delete any current timers and the hourglass will go away.

Unread mail icon in topbar

I'm using Ricky's ROM with topbar, and I can't seem to get rid of the unread mail icon near the top left. When I look at the sliding panel that has missed calls, voicemails, unread emails, etc - they all say 0, but the icon won't go away. Something I'm doing wrong?

I get this sometimes as well. If you know what app created the icon (Outlook, TXT message, 3rd party email, etc), then you just need to click on it and then perhaps click on the message again (even if it is read). It *should* disappear after that.
You HAVE unread messages somewhere Double check....
Whenever you reboot your phone or turn it off and on, refresh the screen, whatever, it will not display any numbers or info next to your missed calls or messages. It is something stupid about the system. It doesn't keep track in a good way of missed calls or what not, but then again, I can't think of any phone that does this well. Most phones that have this type of setup where it displays your messages or missed calls in a panel, don't have the ability to save that info once the phone has been rebooted.
I know this happens to me, it's just the way things are. You just have to roll with the punches. Sorry.
If you are running CHomeWeather, when it updates the plugin, it reloads your homescreen, so this might be what's causing you this problem.
Sorry to jump into your thread with a question, but I've just bought my dash, and already enjoying v23.
my question is what is the 'E'? (is it email? how to get rid of it) and anyway to disable to up-down arrow in the top center?

Yes, you did. The "E" is for the Edge network ("G" is for GPRS.) The up/down arrow is for the JOGGR scrolling feature. You can disable it in the JOGGR settings.

it seems to be a threading glitch.
viewing the message sometimes doesnt reset the notification icon.
As stated above, quickly click on the text message feature in the panel and quickly followed by the end key. WOrks for me.

How do I view old or cleared status bar notifications?

Hi guys,
An app I use (flightradar24) sends alerts in the notification bar. Is there a way to view these in retrospect after they have cleared from the status bar.
Is there a log or history of all notifications that appeared in the status bar. Even after they are cleared. missed calls, text received, updates available etc etc
thanks
Unfortunately there isn't. Once a notification is gone, it's gone. It's not like Facebook where you can go back and view past ones. Sorry!
Imo it makes sense for the app to keep track of data that is still useful to the user. The notification bar is for notifications, not for archiving stuff.

I guess I actually agree with that.
Just to give the question context... When an aircraft declares an emergency a push notification comes to my phone which states "A-XXXX squawk 7700" etc. I click this noifcation and the app opens up and shows the aircraft location and details.
Occasionally the aircraft is gone or has already landed. when I go back to the notifcation bar to get the flight number (A-XXXX) etc, it's gone so I now don't know which aircraft it was that declared the emergency. I need to take note of the aircraft flight number before I click the notifcation to open the app.
I'll report this to the app designer.

That's standard Android functionality. Tapping on any notification in the notification bar causes it to disappear unless the app is constantly running in the foreground. In this case, that would negate the whole purpose of push notifications.
This isn't a design issue with the app, it's just the way Android works. As a workaround, instead of tapping on the notification, just go into the app and navigate to the aircraft alert that way. That way you never tapped on the notification, and it will still be there in your notification bar until you clear it.
You could take a screenshot of the notification with power+volume down before touching the notification. The screenshot will then stay in the notifications until you need it.
Not perfect obviously but just an idea.

[Q] Tasker - to detect app notification.

Is there a way to get Tasker to detect an app notification? For example, I want an action to apply when notification of a certain app shows up, I tried "Event- Notification" and select the app but Tasker does not seem to capture that event, any help would be grateful.

I know this question is kind of old, but I came across it when working on a related problem. I got Tasker to detect an app notification by using the Event-Notification. I had a little problem getting it to recognize the notification because I forgot that the text that I was matching in the notification had to be either a complete match or a pattern match. Once I added a couple of *s in the right places it worked great.
My related problem is how to get Tasker to detect a notification going away. I want to do a task when the notification is cleared and I haven't figured that out yet. If anyone can help with that I'd appreciate it.

Android Wear Notifications Reminder At Bottom of Screen

Updated to wear 2 last night. I get all notifications on the watch no problem but if I don't look it at the notification right away there is NOTHING on the watch screen to tell me that I have unread notifications.
So I basically have no idea if I have texts unless I swipe up from the bottom to check. THIS SUCKS if that's how wear 2 handles missed notifications.
Can someone confirm? Wear 1.5 used to leave a bit of the notification at the bottom of the watch as a reminder that there are some.
Note: I have my notification set to High (Always show) but nope, not always showing.
If you go into (Settings -> Sound & notifications -> Notification previews) you can set it to High so notifications stay on screen.

As I mentioned in my post above. I have e it set to High but it doesn't do anything different. I restarted the watch too and still. Notifications come in and disappear until I swipe up to check if I have any.
Anyone else have this issue? Can someone post picture of how a notification will be waiting on the watch? It is like 1.5 where it stays shown at the bottom of the screen so you are aware you have a notification?
Sadly on AW 2.0 there is no notification reminder anymore

On the dev preview, it behaved just like you describe-notifications vanishing even when set to high.
On final 2.0, well, it is broken too Sometimes notifications stays on screen..it is in full screen ambient, showing the content of notification, with small time at the top. But sometimes, it just vanishes

This seems to be dependent on the source app for the notification. For me, messages from gmail stay, others disappear.

This is just stupid. How does huawei release such a buggy upgrade?
Whatsapp notification realiablitly is close to crap. Twitter notification always hidden when they make it to my watch and google inbox notifications has now stopped.
What the heck?

Is this really true? OH MY GOD, what good is a smart watch if that is gone? All I used mine for was to have a quick peak to see if I have pending notifications and then grab my phone to read or respond. So now I have to check my phones to see if I have missed notifications?

Going to rescind my last post. Sometimes the notification will stay, sometimes it won't. Might be when I get multiple notifications, but not really seeing the pattern yet. Not having a "nag" to the notification is wildly frustrating. If I check (down swipe), the notification are there. But that means I have to check.

No. Swipe up on your watchface to see whatever notifications may be waiting for you, as you mentioned in the OP. Not as convenient as them just being there, but more convenient than taking out your phone.

My Play Store watch face has an option for "Small peek card". It used to work to have a small notification at the bottom, but now all notifications are full screen.

How is that better than how it was on n 1.5? The idea of a smart watch is to see notifications at a glance and not having to check manually every time. I might as well do that on the phone then. This is beyond frustrating to me.

It's not. Most the apps I use are mainstream and well-supported, so the setting to always display notifications works for me in most cases. I suspect that as app authors get around to updating their apps to the new 2.0 standard, most others will work as well.
Someone asked how the "high" notification looks like:

Well the frakking problem is, they had 1 year to do that thanks to devprev, but after all that time, whole 2.0 seems like it has just been created.
I'm not sure why others are having issues with notifications. On my HW1 that I upgraded from 1.5 to 2.0. I am NOT set to High and if I have notifications that I missed, there is a small white dot at the bottom of the screen telling me I have notifications. Works with all my apps that allow on my watch. Maybe I'm missing something here.

Are you sure you dont have any special app or watchface that handles this? The white dot is there in ambient mode too? Could you please show a screenshot/photo of how it looks.

I'm not wearing the watch today at work. Wearing job-issued iWatch, but will try to send it when I get home tonight. I don't have any special apps. The only app I use is Feel the Wear to have select notifications (GMail) use an audible tone, when I get a new GMail. Otherwise, my notifications vibrate when I'm wearing the watch for select others. This dot is the same as I see on my LG Watch Sport, which I rarely wear -- too damn big.

No notifications here, either, despite being set to high. There are supposed to be dots....thought I just might be not seeing it or something... A few lines down to the below noted link - on Google's own site - alludes to said dots that I have yet to see appear on my Huawei.

Notification Icons not showing in status bar

Hi all -
Trying to see if this is normal behavior or a bug, but I have two notifications on my lock screen (Messages and Outlook). When I unlock the device, in the top left, I just see the clock and "AT&T". When I drag the status bar down, I see my messages and outlook notifications (they are not silent or minimized). Why would I want to see AT&T instead of these notifications? Is there an option I'm missing to remove the carrier info?
I'm having the same issue, you are not alone. I spent more than an hour going through every single setting, but found nothing on how to fix this issue.

Fair enough, my apologies.
I have Sprint, and this is happening on my Galaxy S20.

I think that is actually super helpful information. This appears to be a OneUI issue, rather than an android, carrier, or particular model issue. So it needs to somehow get reported to Samsung for a fix... Does anyone here know if there a public place where Samsung tracks bugs for these devices?
Or does anyone know a writer who would pick up this story for a media outlet to shine some light?
Just to try something, have you toggled the setting in status bar section that says show all notifications?
I'm taking about opening quick settings toggles, pressing the three dots menu and then status bar.
I hadn't tried that, no. However, I just did and that didn't change anything.
My wife has an S20 Ultra on AT&T, and she's seeing this as well. I know there's a way to request support or post your issue to the community in the Samsung Members app. I may try to do that from her phone later today.
I've had issues with app notifications and icon badges since the S8, they never seem to get them to work properly

UPDATE
I was using the trial for Sprint's Call Screener program. I turned it off earlier, and now I no longer see "Sprint" in the status bar. I see the icons like I should. I have no idea if that is what solved the problem or not, but I didn't receive an update today and that's the only thing I can remember changing.
Go to settings, display and change 'Full screen Apps' to Auto for all
I played with that setting. It didn't have an affect on the notification issue.

Vinsuja, that setting did not work for me, however you sent me on the right path. I have had this same issue with notification not showing. I found that the camera cut out setting is causing this. Go to settings > display > full screen apps > click 3 dots for advanced settings > turn on hide camera cutout. This adds a black bar at the top, but fixes the notification issue
Edit: You can turn the setting back off and notifications will appear. This seems to be an issue with the full screen UI
Try using QuickStar in Good Lock (if you don't have good lock yet, its in the galaxy store). Under "visibility of indicator icons" you can turn off "Network Information" on homescreen, lockscreen and Expanded QS panel, that should hide your AT&T/Sprint etc etc label in the status bar. Interestingly enough I have a Bell S20, by default for my region carrier name is not shown.. which is a bonus...
