Question Can we enable Fall Detection in unsupported countries? - Google Pixel Watch

I had a fall in China facing down. Only Apple Watch Series 8 sounded an alarm. At the time, pixel watch may not even have fall detection yet. But assuming it did have but just refused to work because I was/am in China, could we make it work somehow by rooting? We know LSPosed 1.8.6 and GPS Setter module 1.3.0-beta could do real location spoofing for the phone, but what about the watch? Thanks. I don't want to have another real fall to test it. I certainly want it to show real location instead of a location say in Europe.
I would have bought iPhone 14 and apple watch for my folks, if the US model had come with a physical sim slot or the watch is not only linked to the iphone...Not sure if jailbreaking iphone 14 could have done as much as rooting pixel 7 pro. But that's another topic.

2 Weeks with Huawei Watch

Hi everyone had the watch for 2 weeks now as an upgrade to the Huawei talkband B2. Firstly i love the look of the watch and the screen is superb but for the money i expected a little bit better. The talkband B2 counted my steps accurately, it knew when i was riding my bike without doing anything, it tracked my sleep accurately. The all singing all dancing Huawei watch does not track sleep why?. The report of steps between google fit on my xiaomi mi5 differs massively from the watch as the watch counts biking as walking which is poor to say the least. The only other issue i have encountered so far is compatibility issues between google and dual sim phones, so for example asking google to send sms to someone works until it comes to sending and it cant differentiate between sims so you need to allow it to send on your phone which sort of defeats the object. The only way i can get it to work is to prioritise sims which then routes any call through 1 sim again sort of defeats the object of a dual sim phone as i want to choose which sim to send it on. Also cards from google re appearing even though they have been dismissed earlier seems to happen quite often. Still love this watch its stylish and the build quality is excellent so hoping someone can help me or future updates from Huawei and Google address my concern.
It could be just me....but i noticed on the last rom i was on it kept lagging on me and acting all sorts of weird i finally updated the ROM and watch works great now.

It also could just be me, but I find the watch grossly misses my steps, compared to my Fitbit Charge HR, Gear S2, and iWatch. It usually lags behind by 1500 -2000 steps at the end of the day. I have taken 100 steps and none were detected and then repeated it with exaggerating my arm swing and it picked up about 60%. I'm a small guy, but that should not matter I would think. Would love to get rid of my Fitbit Charge HR, but can't relay on my HW Watch accurately counting my steps with normal walking and activity.

Buy Huawei Watch today or wait for Google Watch next year.

I'm the proud owner of a new Google Pixel XL and am looking for a smartwatch to pair it with. I previously had an Apple Watch with my iPhone 7.
In researching the current choices that are available, it looks like this is probably the best one out there and I love the stainless steel/milanese loop band (and current price on Amazon).
The only thing holding me back is that it sounds like Google might actually be making their own watch now to further the "Made By Google" product line.
Just wondering your thoughts on if you think it's a good idea to pull the trigger on the Huawei Watch now or just wait on what 2017 has to offer.

Supposedly Google will add Android Pay to the next version of Android Wear, but neither the Huawei Watch nor hardly any current watches have NFC to support it. If that interests you, I assume the new Google watch will have NFC.
That said, I don't care about Android Pay and love my Huawei Watch.

Thanks for the reply. My debit card doesn't even support the chip yet so I don't even use Android Pay yet. Maybe it's great but it's not something I feel I'm missing yet.
discovering if you're a 'smartwatch person' asap seems best .. since a used huawei watch on ebay can be had for $130 find that out now and save $200, then be pleasantly surprised when you compare it to Google's offerings next year and discover that you might like your huawei watch more.

Security on Samsung Fold

i am not sure if anyone faced this issue, i can open my fold with any finger scan but i registered only one. also my son can open the device via face scan.( we have very similar look ) this happening from before and after new update.
2000$ and very low security. do let me know if any one has this issues otherwise i need to start fight with Samsung

unfortunately it seems as if you're in the grouping of people who never looked into this properly.
it seems like you're trying to compare the android face unlock with apple's 3D face scan.
the android face unlock has never been secure since it came out ages ago, in android ice cream sandwich if i recall correctly.
very few android devices utilize an ir projector like the iphone's face id which maps out a 3D object.
the fold's front cameras (both folded and unfolded) do not use this ir projector, therefore you will never have the same result and/or security.
i personally do not have an issue with this as it is rather well known. i have no problem using the fingerprint sensor.
also, i saw spending $2000 usd as spending $2000 on new technology.

General Even MKBHD Says He’s Done With the Pixel 6 Pro

I've been a huge fan of the Pixel since the original XL. Dealing with this phone from day one has been a struggle. The voice dictation is terrible. The worst I've ever had on a pixel. Also the phone is my daily driver and sometimes I can't even work with this phone. Really holding out for an update to fix the phone so that I can love it, but I think I'm more patient than most. I feel like replying with a real world experience to every made by Google tweet, but I'm not out to jeopardize their business and I understand new tech takes a little while to achieve its full potential. But there needs to be some heads rolling at Google. There's been issues with every Google Pixel launch and this I think is the worst from my experience. I'm glad some others aren't experiencing what I'm going through. Lucky dogs

I'll say the same thing I said in another thread...
The Pixel 6 is a new platform on new hardware. There are going to be teething issues. Expecting perfection isn't realistic. Google has been using Snapdragon SoC's since the Nexus 4, and this is their first foray using their own hardware. When Apple introduced the A7 in the iPhone 5S, they had the same problem - a lot of stability and feature issues.
Remember that OEMs have to make compromises in order to get everything they want into a reasonable package. Bigger battery means less space for the electronics, and heat becomes a bigger problem. Bigger display and more powerful processor means more battery drain. With handheld devices, weight and size are significant issues as well.
If you want stability, there are other OEMs to choose from that are sticking to established hardware - such as Samsung, using both Qualcomm and their own Exynos systems. The Pixel series has been pretty solid up to this point, so while the 6 and 6 Pro have certainly had a lot of issues, the next generation will be improved, as will the next after that, and so on.
When you buy a Pixel, it's for vanilla Android with the Google experience. Don't expect much more than that.

man, i really wish my experience was like yours. i bought into Google's P6 hype for sure... i purchased the phone for dual-sim connectivity so i could use one device for my personal and biz numbers. i started with an AT&T version, returned it due to connectivity issues, and purchased an unlocked version that "seemed" to work a little better. however, inconsistent connectivity (no cellular signal, dropped calls, dropped wifi) forced me to put the phone away for now, and switch to a dual-sim S21 Ultra. i'm willing to give Google a chance to address the connectivity issues, but my confidence in their ability to do so is pretty low right now.

Really this is Google's doing and not singularly the P6 Pro itself; Android 12 is a huge part of the problem. Android 11 was no gem either.
Following Apple's lead like a lost puppy was one of their biggest mistakes. Google Android degrades their market edge by doing so and ultimately fails their customers.
A large part of Google's problem is that they are also control freaks. They want to push their cloud services at all costs even if it conflicts with the customer's best interests. They learned that from MS.

I don't even know who that is, nor do I really care. However, and this is a big but, if he has a following of thousands of users who buy phones for multiple family members and go on social media platforms then it becomes a problem. Not here because it seems no one is on social media round these parts, but this is the extreme minority. So call it where it belongs, the phone is buggy.. big time. I'm not talking about battery life either, I'm talking about not being able to make a phone call or receive a text. That is major. If I want stability I go with one of the big guns, Apple or Google. Pure iPhone experience and pure Android experience. There is nothing pure about this Pixel 6 series. OEMs compromising and releasing a device that is obviously flawed is not a great model for success. I don't want a Samsung or an iPhone. I want a Pixel. There is absolutely no reason I should put up with a test device when they touted this as the phone of the year. Next generation doesn't interest me right about now. I want a phone with security updates that are current and a device that always can receive a phone call and text. It is not the Pixel 6 no matter how many excuses you can come up with.
If this was a test device at least tell me that. If they are working out problems fitting stuff in then let me know. I easily could have kept my pristine P5 but I was led to believe this was a finished product and, I repeat, the phone of the year. the iPhone killer the every other phone killer. Well the P6 just got killed by their own hands and if you can't admit it then nothing I can say will change your mind.
I got a P6 Pro at launch and I haven't had any major issues or bugs. I'm on Dec update and I think I experienced the network drop thing only twice. I restarted my phone and everything was back to normal.
No other issues though..

i was on s21 ultra and switch to pixel6 pro if iam kinda sad? yes definetly and iam not big fan of samsung but compare to p6 pro samsung was way better
I bought the unlocked version, and I've had no problems to speak of. My former daily driver was an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Been switching my VZ SIM back and forth to see which one I'll stick with.

My concern is that Google may not find a solution for the P6P reception problems and will have a Nexus 6P issue on its hands. Lawsuits caused many Nexus 6P to be replaced with Pixels so in theory it could happen again but 10 months is a long way from now.
Somebody other has problem with photo quality and strange artifacts? Here look in bright part ....pls dont be a stupid and dont say its becouse saturation or something photo is normal standard photo with no setup right from camera
I'm on Dec build in UK (not sure if that makes a difference but O2 network), I have had small teething issues but nothing like some of the major bugs that have been mentioned. Are we using different variants or something?

He's got 15.2 million subscribers on YouTube. But I agree with you. You would think Google put a little more resources behind it, especially with their big marketing push.
I have a typo and almost every single sentence when doing voice dictation. Maybe I have a stroke happening and my speech is the issue but I'm heavily dependent on it and have been relying on it for years without a problem.
It's just one of the many bugs I'm dealing with, but by no means the end of the world... I ran the A12 betas on my 4XL and it was a rather good experience. Basically all the new features I use specific to the 6pro are broken. I'm hoping that January will be our lucky month
The only issue I have is a bluetooth audio streaming. I need to reconnect it one or two times to make it work.
yeah my second Pixel 6 pro went back to google yesterday, I have had issues with both 6 pro`s I have had, so I`m back to my 9 pro for now. guess wait and see what happens with the S22 ultra or the 10 pro.

All this seems a bit excessive to me, especially considering that I gave all this information on a 15 minute call, but what the hell do I know, I only did elevator electronics tech support before becoming the manager of that unit.

The issue is simple, my Pixel watch will not charge. I have two charger pods bought from the Google store and neither one charges the watch. I can place the watch on either of the pods and the charging animation does not come on and the battery level does not change from the way it was when I woke up: 57%. Two things I noticed is that the watch will get warm if left on the charger, and the app on my Pixel 7 Pro shows connected but never syncs.

Good luck. What is it about "not charging" that they don't understand! Obviously, they have a menu of items no matter what the issue.

I missed the part when you performed a factory reset twice and powered off the device for 5-10 minutes before you add any 3rd party apps.

Nope. I'm not doing any resets at all.
I'm waiting for them to tell me to do that and I'll expect a promise to replace the watch if the issue comes up a second time. I don't think having to do resets is normal in any way.

Not really the point. I simply don't want factory resets to be the new normal for me - I don't plan on doing it on a daily basis. Or even on a weekly basis.
If that's the case then I want my money back. I want them to promise me a new watch should this occur again.

To gain a better understanding of your line of thought.
-- You'd rather Google send a replacement instead of you trying to correct the issue yourself.
-- You are hoping that if and when you get a new watch, that all will be right in the world.

Mostly correct.
I have no problem doing a factory reset - I object to having to do it on a regular basis.
I would hope a new device would work correctly. I had a Samsung Galaxy watch years ago and when it failed for the fourth time, I took a freaking hammer to it - it was more satisfying to do that than to continue having problems. Pixel Watch better watch out (sorry about the pun).
And, no, no way in hell would I wear an Apple device.

My device is less than 3 months old. The time works, Google Keep works, the heart rate works, the temperature works, and the time to Sunrise works.
There are no scratches, no dents, no dirt, no dings, I did not try to drown it, I did not tape it to a stick of Dynamite, nothing physically wrong with the watch - it is stuck at 57% charging.
WHAT will a picture tell you?
I have the Google charging pods - wireless, in case you are confused.
If you insist on pictures, then we are done. All you would get is a picture of a perfect-looking watch.

I guess I will ask: Have you tried a RESET or reboot or restart or whatever at all? I don't see that mentioned in the original post but I might have missed it. If not, a reset would be the place to start. It does not mean it will be a permanent requirement. It might just clear up the current glitch, whatever caused it. I did have to do a full reset the second day I owned it. But now it has not had any issues. I have had it about as long as you have.
I will admit, I would definitely like better battery life.

I could, and I will, but I wanted it to be on the record, for them to ask me to do it so that if it happens again I can pressure them into giving me a new watch.

The reasoning behind Google asking for photos is to clarify and to answer the magic question on whether the item is damaged in any form or fashion.
Somewhere along the lines of chasing ghosts - you might want to consider hiring an attorney that specialize in defective products if you want to escalate this to a new level.

I have told them that the time works, the date works, the heart rate works, the weather works, Google Keep works, weather works - why on earth would they think it's damaged?
I'm 73 years old and have had to resort to tech support from time to time, I have never been asked for pictures of a product. Hell, I'm typing this on a Pixel 7 Pro that I got with a trade in for a Pixel 3A, sight unseen, and no photos!

Bear in mind - Google has been hosed by a great number of scam artists over the years regarding false accusations and dirty tactics to get Google to replacement product under false pretenses.
-- Therefore, by you not complying to their request will raise a red flag whether you like it or not.

I personally believe that it's absurd to have all those requirements before speaking a single word to me - I still have not had a phone call from this guy.
I will be selling my Pixel 7 Pro, and my Pixel Buds - I feel that I can't trust them anymore.

I feel your pain. Gone are the days where a simple call to customer service was all that was required.
In today's world of high tech and bad actors, most of the Fortune 500 companies are becoming very weary of their bottom line.
In my last job, I didn't work for a Fortune 500, but I did work in tech support, the real kind - definitely not a call center. I started as tech support, became senior field tech support, and wound up being the manager. I traveled all over the United States, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Canada.
The company is an elevator controller manufacturer, all the equipment was built in-house. Anything from the controllers, the door operators, the panels, and even the switches were built in-house - motors too. It was a privately owned company until the owners sold it to a venture company from SF. They were in their 80s and didn't trust their own kids to run it.
When someone called us we talked them through any problems they were having, any at all, with any equipment that we built. We would help with installation and troubleshooting. I gave symposiums where union members could get college credits. I even wrote technical manuals.

I remembered back in the '90's when simply hanging up the phone and redialing several times until you actually hit paydirt with someone who actually cares.
There has been talk over the decades of the 'Decline of Customer Service in America', but all that shows us is that most of these companies just need re-evaluate their training manuals but continue to blame it on the tight labor market or a shortage of qualified employees. But it often comes down to not taking the time to instill core service training for all customer-facing employees.

I completely agree - everything in that last company I worked for was done as on-the-job training. We hired right out of college for the most part and we taught them everything, took them to job sites, and introduced them to the customers. The elevator industry is a small one and you develop friendships, and relationships with the customers. One of the best jobs I have ever had.
I made tons of friends, and the owner gave me an Amex card and he told me to "use the **** out of it" - the deal was that I'd show up to a place like Chicago, go to three or four job sites, and then buy the guys food and drink all night long. I did this in almost every big city in the US and Canada for years and never once had to fill out expense sheets.
What really kills me are call centers - I hate them with a passion that surprises even me. Whoever came up with that should burn in hell for eternity.
I had this happen to me once and all it took to clear was to hold down both buttons to do a Hard Reset and when it came backup it charged again.
Have you tried that? Hard Resetting doesn't factory reset the watch it just powers it down and reboots it.
