[Q] Encryption is Broken on Rooted Galaxy S III

Hi, I've tried to search for info on this but most of the relevant things I find were pre-4.3, pre-KNOX, I don't want to ruin something so I'm going to post.
I would like to root and have encryption working, but since I rooted, the phone will not encrypt. I had tried to root after encrypting the phone, maybe that messed something up.
Here is exactly what I did:
-Got the OTA update to 4.3
-Turned on full device encryption. it worked fine.
-I then realized you have to use the same passcode for encryption and screen unlock which is a pain. Found an app which purports to allow you to use separate passwords for these: Cryptfs Password
-Requires root access.
-Ok, so I root the phone using Odin 3.07, CF auto root. (CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710)
-Success in Odin, Reboot phone, enter my encryption password
-It hangs at this screen indefinitely: (forum won't let me link picture.... black background, green android robot split in half like gears/puzzle, no text)
-I can no longer use phone, so I do hard factory reset to remove encryption, phone boots up
-Now I update SuperSu in play store and it disables KNOX popups; root checker says root successful.
-So now I have a rooted phone, but no encryption.
-I try to re-encrypt phone.
-When I hit "encrypt", I get that same android robot screen for 30 seconds then phone reboots like nothing happened, asks for passcode. Obviously encryption didn't work.
????
What steps should I take so that phone is both rooted and can use encryption?
Tried some more things:
-Flashed the phone with the factory 4.3 ROM, MK3 everything...
-Now encryption worked again.
-I do a factory reset to remove encryption.
-This time I root with a different method: flash philz touch recovery, "DE-SAMSUNGNIZER_KNOX_REMOVAL_SCRIPT_V1.0", "UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86"
-root checker says everything is successful
-I try to encrypt and it hangs at that screen with the android robot who is split in half, for 30 seconds, then phone reboots
Am I missing something?
Does rooting + 4.3 + encryption not work together?

Restore your phone to stock with Odin and the latest tar file.
Root your phone with CF Auto Root in Odin, be sure to enable usb debugging mode first.
After it's rebooted open supersu and it should ask you if want to disable Knox, select yes and change your supersu to grant and you can do whatever you're trying to do.
It seems as if Knox is keeping you from doing anything encryption wise as it's doing it's job protecting the security features of your phone.
After you've done all this, let me know.

Thanks so much for the reply, appreciate the help.
However, before I saw your post, I kept tinkering with different combinations of rooting and encrypting and I fixed it.
Here is what I did.
-Started fresh with stock 4.3 recovery/rom
-encrypted
-rooted with "saferoot", it was a .bat that I ran while the phone was on
-no problems encrypting or decrypting anymore
Now that I had root access, I could use the apps that allow you to change the encryption password independent of screen lock.

Hi, Read thus

Need locked bootloader to install 5.0.6 OxygenOS (Oreo) but...

My girlfriend has a OnePlus 3T and is stuck on Oxygen OS 5.0.4, and it doesn't matter if I download the update via the update settings or install it locally or via adb, or use twrp to flash it, I tried all those ways.
Regardless, the update fails every time. I also tried deleting the ota folder, and rebooting her phone to recovery and deleting cache... that doesn't work either. I also tried using adb and typing in - adb reboot "dm-verity enforcing" - still nothing.
I also used the toolkit from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/toolkit-oneplus-3-toolkit-unlock-t3398799
and I tried to lock the bootloader. It took me hours to figure out how to get the bootloader unlocked again, cause I had to enter a password to get in, and at the time my girlfriend had no password on her phone at all.
After I figured out about unlocking the bootloader again, I made a password in the security setting, re locked bootloader, still nothing. The password works while phone's bootloader is unlocked, but not while it's locked.
I made a video to further explain and show the situation.

Still nothing?

I watched your video,
Before you relock the bootloader you must install the stock recovery for your device, you can't relock while TWRP is installed, use this guide, (read the guide once completely before you start).

Also make shure you use the latest ADB drivers Inside (SDK Platform-Tools) from google:

Good Luck!
It worked like a charm. Thank you!

ANDROID 10 with MAGISK ROOT working on s10+

*****This was done on an EXYNOS s10+ SM-G975F*****
All you have to do is download the firmware
Get the AP file
Patch it with MAGISK
then take the patched file and flash it in place of the AP file WITH THE REST OF THE FIRMWARE FILES with ODIN
But make sure you uncheck auto reboot
Then when you are done flashing turn if off
The turn it on holding the recovery buttons till the first screen comes back for a couple seconds the let go
You should now have ANDROID 10 (Q) rooted with MAGISK
Enjoy
Taking this one step further, would we be able to insert a twrp image into the AP file so that we also have TWRP installed? Or is it incompatible?
I might try this later.
Really? its good news. But is battery life any better in Android Q?
need to unlock oem or not ?

1- unlock oem
2- unlock Bootloader
3- root
can we patch twrp too and pu that in the ap file?
Has anyone managed to root Android10 but without losing data?
Tried it but ended up with bootloop: Unable to disable quotas on /dev/block/platform/13d60000.ufs/by-name/userdata because /system/bin/tune2fs is missing. Followed instructions exactly. Pathed image, moved image to odin along with the other files, flashed, passed, turned off and started with recovery buttons.
Need to press and hold buttons in order to start device in rooted mode each time you restart or power off and power on device??

This what i don't want. I believe mostly people don't like this method too. Device must be work in normal mode with root and key combination to enter in recovery mode.

hi. you meant its not working in root mode after restart if we dont press the combination button ? Is android 9 same thing ? Sorry still new with Magisk things
I mean you have to press several buttons to enter in rooted mode after rooting your device and it's obviously not a good way.

yes, work
hi. i was running android 9 rooted and i decided to upgrade to android 10. i also included twrp in the installation using magisk and patching the AP file.
The first boot was fine. i had to reboot the phone and now if i start with root, i can't unlock the screen, i put the pin,it gives black screen and then pin request again. i rebooted with no root (same problem). i wiped the cache and now i can use phone if i start without root. i tried to remove pin and fingerprint, but anyway if i start with root i cannot use phone, it goes in bootloop after the unlock screen.
Any suggestion?
thank

Cannot get root access in TWRP (Decrypt fails)

Hey there,
so I am kinda confused here. I've just flashed TWRP and LineageOS onto my Motorola Moto G5S. Now when I want to install Magisk to get root access and therefore boot into TWRP it prompts me with a password entering screen. Despite entering my correct passwordd (Also tried it with a pattern lock) it only says that the decrypt fails and the password would be wrong. Unfortunately I cannot try an older version of TWRP or Android because my main phone died recently and I don't want to use my data completely.
I hope someone can help me and I'll thank y'all in advance.
