Question Fastboot loop - Unable to use MSM - TWRP Lessons Learn't - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hi Peeps,
Further to my issue within thread >> https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/bricked-oneplus9-pro-unlocked-options-for-newbie.4577539
Listed below is how I/we overcame the fastboot constant boot issue. A little background in case someone comes against the same issues.
I bought a OnePlus 9 Pro in the hope to have a degoogled phone. Following the lineageOS instructions I somehow corrupted my device and when issuing Volume Down & Power got stuck in a fastboot loop.
Failed Resolutions:
1/ MSM
Part of the resolutions mentioned usiing the MSM tool (windows only) However in my case, My windows vm only recognised my phone has a Android Phone nothing else. I should also point out it couldn't go into edl(Both volumes+power) either. Probably why not recognised as OnePlus 9 Pro by windows.

2/ Fastboot & Extract payload.bin .img files) & Fastboot Enhanced tool
a/ https://droidwin.com/unbrick-oneplus-9-pro-fastboot-commands/
b/ https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...enhance-payload-dumper-image-flasher.4310553/
Both methods needed to reboot in fastbootd mode unfortunately my phone failed with both methods. Got a message regarding failing to boot into userspace
These methods possible would work if windows could recognise the phone/edl is functional.
(Thanks to @TheGhost1951)
Successful Resolution Below - Big thanks goes to @immortalwon
TWRP Method:
[RECOVERY][3.7.0-12.1][UNOFFICIAL][UNIFIED] TWRP with A12/A13 encryption support
This is an unofficial build of TWRP, based on the Android 12.1 branch, that supports encryption used by Android 12 and 13 ROMs. This build is tested on OP9 pro, but it was confirmed to work on regular OP9 too. As always I'm not responsible for...

Prerequisites:1/ platform tools installed & path set. (works both on windows/linux) I finished mine on linux due to vm usb issues.
2/ fastboot devices recognises your device,
Initially not entirely sure if this next step was still required or maybe the 2nd option(renaming & moving .img into platform-tools folder) will suffice? maybe someone can advise? I just know it worked for me
1/ Extract zip from above download link to folder.
2/ Issue fastboot boot boot-oos13-firmware.img
After completion my phone had the below options
After clicking reboot & sliding to confirm as advised went into fastboot mode,
Final Successful Method:
1/ Rename file boot-oos13-firmware.img to twrp.img
2/ Place twrp.img inside your platform tools folder.
3/ Now from the command prompt, type this exactly: fastboot boot twrp.img
After completion we had a lot more options within TWRP as below:
1 Now click on advanced, adb sideload and swipe right. If you see options Wipe Dalvik Cache & Wipe Cache DO NOT SELECT!
2/ Move official OnePlus 9 Pro firmware into platform-tools folder & rename to a shorter name, I renamed to twpr.zip
3/ Issue adb sideload twrp.zip (During this stage I moved to my local linux machine as vm wasn't playing nicely with usb.
May see some errors on successful completion.
Upon Reboot Happy Days!
Sorry not really a writer as you can probably tell Thanks for all the guys who assisted me. Happy to report I now have a fully functional LineageOS de-ggogled phone I hope this helps someone in the future. Thanks Daz

Glad you got a functioning phone!

[Guide] Unbricking P20

So I kinda bricked my phone when trying to go back from Beta 9.0 to Latest Official. So I decided to give some kind of guide to try and assist the people Who also got stuck. Beware that I couldnt get ADB to work as it kept complaining about drivers which I couldnt make work but it was due toe phone being bricked. If you can get into ADB and have TWRP already loaded then you can simply transfer the three files from below to your phone and follow this guide with the below three files. It works perfectly : https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
If you have the same issue as me then follow the following procedure :
I have the Dual Sim EML-L29C185 (How do I know this?) Well at first I didnt so I had to figure out. So let look at the following :
EML-L29 - Dual Sim Model
C185 - South African Region Model which you can get from the following post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/8-lite/how-to/huawei-regional-codes-t3740473
So now that you know the model number go to this site and type in the model number eg : eml-l29c185 and you will get a list of firmwares for your phone : https://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/?firmware_model=eml-l29c185&firmware_page=0

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click on the file list and in the example below you will see 4 files but only need three. The EM09 and L29 have the same update.zip and same update_data_full_public.zip but different EML-XXX_hw_meafnaf/update_full_EML-XXX_hw_meafnaf.zip files so get the three files you need for your model.
Now download the Huawei Multitool from here : http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=759172&st=0#entry51396624
and The update.zip extractor from here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
We need to manually flash all the broken image files in the phone with the Multitool but the files we need to flash are inside the update.zip file and thats why need the extractor.
So unzip the update .zip file. Then point the extractor to the folder so you can extract the files needed by the Multitool.
The following Three files need to be flashed
System [Called System.img]
Boot [Called Ramdisk.img]
Recovery [Called Recovery_Ramdisk.img] make sure it is in the folder and rename it correctly. Mine was recovery_ramdis.img without the K so had to rename it otherwise multitool wont flash it]
You can also flash it manually without multitool with the following commands :
fastboot flash ramdisk ramdisk.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img
Start your phone in Recovery mode : Switch off. Hold vol down and keep holding it and plug usb cable in. Or in TWRP reboot Bootloader.
Start multitool and click on the unbrick tab on top and follow the instructions. That worked for me.
After it was done I transfered the 3 downlaoded files to the phone and followed the procedure to make sure all 3 files are flashed because multitool only uses the update.zip file and i dont think it fixed all the region stuff but this procedure did :

Many thanks for sharing!
is there a way I can use this to upgrade firmware whilst retaining an existing custom ROM installation like LineageOS?
E: never mind, was able to use the `Update-partitions-fastboot.bat` do do the above just fine.
Thanks again!

Hi there, thanks for your reply.
My intention was to update the necessary partitions whilst retaining my existing LineageOS 17.1 installation. Looking at the contents of the firmware package, there seems to be a batch file (Update-partitions-fastboot.bat) allowing me to do just that.
Kind regards

Bricked - Locked Bootloader but access to Fastboot+MI-Recovery - "The MIUI version can't be installed on this device"

Hello, out of nowhere this morning I found my Redmi Note 5 Pro to be bricked. It was stuck in a boot loop. I had an unlocked bootloader and tried installing miui 11.0.3... but I left the lock option on in MiFlash. So the phone now says "The MIUI version can't be installed on this device" on MI-Recovery screen. This wouldn't have been too bad had I had the ability to flash again, but the bootloader is now locked. Already I have lost all my data which was devastating... now I'm intensely worried my device is gone too. Fastboot works but I cannot flash anything and so does the recovery menu. I am stuck and have no idea what to do. All the service centers are at the other side of the UK for me so I would greatly welcome support in unlocking the bootloader or flashing the stock ROM.
How to Unbrick Redmi Note 5 Caused by ARB ProtectionStep 1. Download and install ADB-Fastboot Drivers on your computer.
Step 2. Download Mi Flash tool and install it on your computer as well.
Step 3. Download modded MIUI ROM with unbrick tweak for Redmi Note 5 on your computer. The modified ROM is available in two files. Download both of them (anti_test_note5.zip and anti_test_note5.z01). Make sure you put both files in the same folder/location.
Step 4. Double click the anti_test_note5.zip to extract it. You will get a folder called “anti_test_note5“.
p.s: Make sure you have WinRAR, WinZip, or 7Zip installed already.

Thanks for this tutorial, but my bootloader is locked so it won't start ;(
Update; I tried using the Recovery Roms in the Mi Flash Pro program with this rom while in MI-Recovery mode which went through successfully, but it did not solve anything. Within the program it now refuses to flash older firmwares and the newer miui 12 ones are "beta" so they do not work either.
After looking at the box which my phone came in, it has chinese text on it (also to be noted it does not say pro on it...). Perhaps I was wrongly installing the global rom on chinese hardware? It had global rom installed on it when I last used it. I'm looking for ways to unlock the bootloader again, but the Mi Unlock program refuses to do it saying that the account is not on my phone (the connected devices list on the website says it is). Clearly I am not an expert in this area and I am beginning to become desperate but repair costs are too high to justify.

Lineage OS 19.1

Hello everybody,
I tried to install the unofficial Lineage OS 19.1 ROM through this link and by building it myself, both using the TWRP recovery and the Lineage OS recovery. While old signed nightlies (eg. lineage-18.1-20210411-nightly-channel-signed.zip) of Lineage OS 18 get installed without any issues, both the downloaded and the built zip files (lineage-19.1-20220527-UNOFFICIAL-channel.zip) fail at step 1/2 with the message:
error applying update 28 error - Updater Process ended with ERROR: 1
The steps I've tried to follow many times with the lineage OS 19:
- adb sideload copy-partitions-20210323_1922.zip -> success
- TWRP (twrp-3.5.2_10-0-channel.img)
Wipe: selected all options
ADB Sideload file (e.g. lineage-19.1-20220407-UNOFFICIAL-channel.zip) -> error 28
ADB Push file, then Install file -> error 28
- LINEAGE OS RECOVERY
Wipe data \ Factory reset
Activated Sideload from ADB
ADB Sideload file (e.g. lineage-19.1-20220407-UNOFFICIAL-channel.zip) -> error 28
ADB Sideload the old Lineage 18 file (lineage-18.1-20210411-nightly-channel-signed.zip) -> goes to step 2/2 and installs successfully.
As I'm relatively inexperienced with modding (all I ever did was to just unlock the bootloader and install the roms), I wonder if anyone had the same issue or can help. The USB cable appears not to be the issue, as it always fails with Lineage OS 19 but succeeds with 18. Might it be an issue related to the system partition space?
Thanks in advance
Check installer script and find why installation break.
I can check for you. Find fail and send issue.
Thank you! From the computer terminal the loading process appeared to be fine:
~/Downloads seekhey$ adb sideload lineage-19.1-20220407-UNOFFICIAL-channel.zip
Total xfer: 0.87x
From TWPR (sorry for the bad quality, I couldn't take a screenshot for some reason);

Unfortunately, I coundn't gather any significant info from that.
I found the issue, as usual it was just under my eyes.
Since the channel build for Lineage OS 19 uses part of the blobs and settings used for the ocean device (Moto G7 Power), the partitions table should have been rewritten as in the Moto G7 Power, for which the ocean_gpt.bin file was provided in the same folder of the lineage-19.1-20220407-UNOFFICIAL-channel.zip file. So the command:
fastboot flash partition ocean_gpt.bin
let the builds be flashed correctly. Unfortunately my own build bootloops (not surprised, as it was my first build using some ocean blobs I found on GitLab) but SyberHexen's one works fine!
Assalamu Alykm Everyone! I'm using official Linage 19.1. How I report any issue to the developer? I.e. MOTO ACTIONS are not workning.
