Samsung Focus S - USB Tethering: Confirmed Working

Anyone get this working, the old method doesn't work. The computer found the phone and installed the modem. Does the Samsung Focus S have different connection strings?
In the diagnostic screen there are more options than the Samsung Focus:
Zune Sync
Modem, Tethered Call
Modem, USB Diag.
Zune Sync, Modem.
Modem_QC, USB Diag.

internet sharing was loaded by default on my system settings.
Turning it on will trigger AT&T to enable the Tethering Plan. When I turned it on few months back on my Focus AT&T sent me a card within a few days stating they would turn on tethering automatically unless I called to tell them no. I used the USB tethering prior for 6 months with no word from AT&T until the I turned on internet sharing.

That will not prevent it at all. Without that you won't be able to turn it on, but once you do turn it on AT&T will message you saying if you continue you'll automatically be enrolled in a tehering plan.

The exact thing happened to me. I've USB tethered my phone since January no problem and a week or two after trying internet sharing I got the message from AT&T. I figured the internet sharing triggered that but in fear of loosing my unlimited data plan I haven't tethered using either method since. Have you used USB tethering since getting the message with no problem?

Yes, few months with no issues. I called AT&T yesterday and asked if any more "tethering" triggers came through and they confirmed no. I am 100% positive the internet sharing in system settings triggers the plan if you don't pay for one.
The USB method that original worked for the Samsung Focus doesn't work on Samsung Focus S. I have tried on 3 different computers that worked previously; I can easily connect my Samsung Focus but receive dial-up error 628 or error 619 on the Focus S, the strings have be different. The main reason I upgraded was the 4G speeds which are amazing on this phone.
I have uninstalled all the drivers, deleted the modem and reinstalled with no problems. I just can not get past the error. We need to get us new Samsung Focus S owners our modem back
Got it working...

I think I changed too many settings in my modem which caused me to uninstall everything. Hopefully the quick route will work for most people! I am glad you got it working! I have never had AT&T notify me this way, only using the Mango tethering option.
Hopefully we can add this to a sticky and under the Samsung Focus S section when it is up and running.

Good job. The Samsung Focus S forum needs to go up soon!
Hello is there any way to make usbthetering on Omnia7 available? wolud be very nice
Have you tried following the same steps used for the Focus / Focus S?
Alternatively, have you tried a search?
USB tethering for all gen1 devices, even things like the DVP which otherwise have very little homebrew, has been known for many months. I don't recall if you had to tweak it slightly for the Omnia7 or not, but I don't think so.

Any ideas?

That did the trick. Using my phone as a modem right now... thanks!
Are the instructions in this forum so that I can use my 3G connection on my Samsung Focus S by my laptop that doesn't have Internet?
Or is it the other way around so that I can use my laptop's Internet connection so that my phone will be able to have Internet as well - just by connecting to the USB port?
I'm assuming it's for the former but I'd also like it if someone could point me to the latter.
It's for the former. For the latter, that's built-in; just connect the phone to the computer by USB and start the Zune software. It will create an Ethernet connection over USB for the phone to use, off of the PC's Internet connection. You could also use Internet Connection Sharing from the PC over WiFi, and connect the phone to that (it may help to use software that causes the PC's WiFi to appear as an access point; I'm not sure if the phone supports Ad-Hoc networks).

Awesome! I didn't know that Ethernet connection over USB was able just by having Zune and the Windows Phone. Tried it and it works great!
Would that only work with Windows Phone or any other phones/devices I use while Zune is running?

Where I can get this app "Network"?
Some of those steps are placebo, and unnecessary. That will only get you 1x internet, and dependent on your location you may/may never get 3g to work they've been blocking off more cities from flashed phones from getting 3g..

Moto E4 Guide To Fix Freedom Mobile Stuck On 3G

This guide is similar to my Moto G5 Plus guide, but is a bit more complicated due to not having a signed image with the correct EFS items.
WARNING: These tools can easily brick your phone, use this entirely at your own risk. Only advanced users should attempt this.
Requirements
Moto E4 Qualcomm version (tested on Verizon XT1767, but should work on all)
QXDM software (specifically, EFS Explorer) and basic knowledge of how to use it
Steps
Ensure you have a working QXDM setup, you can follow this tutorial step 1, then from step 4 until step 9 only
Insert Freedom SIM, boot up phone and ensure it can connect properly
Shut down phone. Hold the volume up and down buttons at the same time while pressing power
Press volume down button until you get to the "BP TOOLS" item, tap the power button once on it
After the phone boots up, start up EFS Explorer from the QXDM suite, connect to the phone (it will show up as "MSM8917" under QPST Configuration). You can do this by selecting the phone from the QPST Configuration screen and going to the "Start Clients" menu item and choosing "EFS Explorer." Choose the same port on the next screen, leaving SPC code as is, and press OK. Refer to the linked tutorial above.
Navigate to nv -> item_files -> wcdma -> rrc. In this folder, right click in the file list on the right hand side, select "Copy Item File from PC" and select each of the files in the attached zip (wcdma_rrc_fast_return_to_lte_after_csfb_timer, wcdma_rrc_fast_return_to_lte_after_csfb, and rrc_b66_plmn_support) and press ok (do this one by one). Ensure "Overwrite Allowed" is selected.
Go to the phone menu -> reset phone. Then reboot your phone.
Proof
Note: If you remove the SIM card you may have to do this over again.
I have implemented this fix and it works great.
Just some tips to save others some time.
1. You do not need USB debugging/Developer options on or the Motorola USB drivers installed.
2. The archive in the linked QXDM/QPST tutorial is no longer available but someone reposted in the last few pages of that thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73160851&postcount=1187
3. If using Windows 10 you must boot your phone into BP Tools mode before you connect to the PC. After connecting the phone under Device Manager you must go to View > Show hidden devices to see the Moto E4 appear 4 times under Other devices.
4. You must force install the HTC driver that came with the archive I talked about in step 2. However to do this you must disable signed driver enforcement in Windows 10. Unfortunately I could not disable this with the command line option so you have to do the following:
Click the Start Start menu and select Settings.
Click Update and Security.
Click on Recovery.
Click Restart now under Advanced Startup.
Click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options.
Click Startup Settings.
Click on Restart.
On the Startup Settings screen press 7 or F7 to disable driver signature enforcement.
5. Once Windows 10 boots up connect the phone that booted in BP Tools mode. Once you are in the Device Manager > Other devices you will update the driver of the 2nd instance of Moto E4 in the list of 4.
6. After installing the HTC driver you should see the HTC Modem appear under Modems in Device manager. Right click > Properties and get the COM port of the HTC modem to use with QPST.
Hope this helps someone.

Unlock network bands, enable voLTE and 5G on nonsupported countries

Hi,
Other phone models can use EFS Tool, QPST tool to do all the mentioned tasks.
And some phones to do that requires rooting phone since they dont have Engineering mode, and some with Engineering mode support doesnt need rooting to use the mentioned tools for example OnePlus phone.
So my question, does LG phone also has this thing called Engineering mode? since LG wing is not supported for bootloader unlocking by LG yet.
Anyone has more experience with LG phone and perhaps the mentioned tool can shed some lights on the concern? Thanks.
Goid app. Well made
on LM-F100EMW,
1) use dialer code #*462633*#100#
2) go to Field Test > LTE Data Test > Tethering Mode, and select QMICM
3) go all the way back to first menu and go to SVC Menu> Port Check Test> Port Check Test and select enable
after that I am able to connect QPST. I used EFS explorer to fix CA-combos and carrier policy for my region/provider.
After doing your work, revert the changes to have a regular USB connection!!
for VOLTE first try to
1) make a new file or folder with name "enable_ue" (without quotes) on your phone's internal storage.
2) use dialer code #*462633*#100#
3) go to Field Test> Universal Enabler > Create New Config , enable VoLTE and confirm.
to add VOLTE indicator next to battery and signal strength on notification bar
1) use dialer code #*462633*#100#
2) go to Field Test > GPRI VoLTE/VoWiFi > IMS> select Sim Slot > Registration > VoLTE > and enable VoLTE Indication.
after all these
1) use dialer code #*462633*#100#
2) go to Field Test> IMS Settings> select Sim Slot > Test > Restart IMS process > select Yes
now you should have VoLTE enabled with notification bar indication

For volte i didnt change anything from EFS.
The changes i did in EFS was to add 5G for any carrier, because my carrier was not supported, and also to take the CA string from another phone's firmware, that my carrier has good support, and paste it where the outdated ca string was inside my wing's EFS.

Can you tell if you were able to get Volte on LG Wing without mbn loading. Also if mbn loading is needed, what is the process and where do you find the files for LG wing Malaysia carriers that I can use. I have another Samsung phone and that is fully volte supported. Can I copy something from it?

Other phone models can use EFS Tool, QPST tool to do all the mentioned tasks.
And some phones to do that requires rooting phone since they dont have Engineering mode, and some with Engineering mode support doesnt need rooting to use the mentioned tools for example OnePlus phone.
So my question, does LG phone also has this thing called Engineering mode? since LG wing is not supported for bootloader unlocking by LG yet.
Anyone has more experience with LG phone and perhaps the mentioned tool can shed some lights on the concern? Thanks.

for VOLTE first try to
1) make a new file or folder with name "enable_ue" (without quotes) on your phone's internal storage.

When i go to field test and click on ims settings it is showing not supported. I formated my phone and it became like this. Before formatting it used to work and I could see ims settings. My phone I bought from a shop and the shop keeper sent it rooted. Thatd when IMS settings were working..but after I did a reset saying not supported. How to bring it back?

Where are you located and what condition is your phone in? I've got an AT&T branded phone but I'm on TMO...maybe we can switch!
When I go to field menu in my Lg Wing, I go to IMS settings, it is completely blank. Someone please help me in registering the Volte in my Lg Wing. I am already rooted by able to patch the stock boot.img using magisk. My phone came with an unlocked bootloader and its the European firmware. I am trying to use this phone in Asia (Malaysia). Surprisingly, when I got the phone from the seller, it was not enabled volte but IMS settings in field menu would also show up (unlike now when I go there and it is blank), and also surprisingly, my volte worked also but by mistake I formatted my phone and after that it never worked. I then tried to flash the stock firmware and did root, installed voenabler but nothing seems to be helping.
I even tried loading mbn files of different carriers via PDC but no help. IMS settings always stay blank and volte doesn't get activated. Such a good phone but not able to work because my carrier here only supports volte.
If someone has an interest in helping, will be great.
How to edit CA String.
