[Q] Google Now / Google Voice

Currently on my N7, I get the message "This device cannot perform the action you requested." if I try to initiate a voice call or a SMS using google now. I have google voice installed, and it can perform both of these functions...
Is there a way to make google now play nice? ( I've even set the default messaging app to google voice using Default App manager, and nothing )
Well first Google voikce has never been a VoIP its call forwarding service, that's why you can't make a phone call.
As for SMS (I use it voice all the time and it I my only number). Google voice is like a red headed step child for google the service is open and never integrated into anything outside of the app

Hangouts Calling! How to disable LG Dialer/incoming call notifications?

In leu of the newly released Hangouts app with Google Voice integration and Hangouts Dialer release, I downloaded and tried out the new Hangouts Dialer just now. It's awesome! However, I'm noticing that if someone calls my standard number or my Google Voice number the stock LG dialer intercepts the call and makes me answer it through the stock interface.
So now I want to permanently disable the stock LG dialer apps safely. I used Titanium Backup to freeze the "Answer Me" app but the calls still come through the stock dialer. Anyone know what else is required to freeze/uninstall to get this to go away?
EDIT 1:
I partially figured it out. In order to freeze the stock dialer app from intercepting calls to your Google Voice number, freeze the following 3 apps...
Answer Me 2.0.0
Phone 4.8.24 (VOICEMAIL)
Phone/Messaging Storage 3.5.16 (SMS/MMS/APN)
This solves the issue for your Google Voice number or if you've forwarded your standard number to your Google Voice number. However, if you don't have your standard number forwarded to your Google Voice number, calls to your standard number will still come through the stock dialer for some reason...
EDIT 2:
I also noticed that if you click on a phone number in the phone's browser (Chrome in my case) or Google Maps, it still opens the phone number in the LG dialer app, even though the app is disabled. So to make a call in Hangouts you need to copy the number then paste it into the Google Dialer. This obviously isn't a great solution by any means. Hopefully we can figure out a way to make the Hangouts dialer act as the stock dialer across everything within the phone.

Yeah, it's obnoxious. It's got me missing the AOSP ROMs on my Nexus phones. With AOSP you can just set the Hangouts Dialr as the default phone app and call it a day.
My understanding is if you stop forwarding your number to your cell phone on the Google voice website, it will stop ringing your cell number and the only ring will be Hangouts. You may find you also need to remove the now largely uneeded google voice ap, it conflicts with hangouts... NOTE: if you do this, you will not receive GV calls if you do not have a good data connection. You also wan't dial out on GV if you don't have a data connection. Since they aren't going to your cell number anymore.

How to make Google Voice the default messaging app?

I just bought an LG G4 (on Sprint). Google Voice is not an option as the default messaging app (you must choose between Hangouts and the standard messaging app). I have tried a number of suggested tricks to make it work but it appears if I want to use Google Voice, I must also use Hangouts.
I just want to use Google Voice. Short of rooting my phone, is there any way to make Google Voice my default messaging app?
Hangouts is Google's replacement for Google Voice. I had to transition to it from Voice a while back and couldn't imagine using Voice again. I don't believe you can set Voice as your messaging app unfortunately. I now use Hangouts on all of my devices, disable the phone's phone app entirely and solely use my Google Voice number along with Hangouts & Hangouts Dialer for all my SMS / Messaging / VideoCalls / VoiceCalls and can continue my conversations on my other devices. It's nice once you've gotten used to it.

Thanks. I think I just have to make the adjustment.
Yeah, it took me a bit as well. Change is rough sometimes, but in the end I think using one app that I can access freely on all of my devices has really made me more efficient. I'm rooted and have actually disabled my phone's phone / contacts apps and solely use Hangouts + Google's AOSP Contacts app for incoming / outgoing / messaging, etc... Nobody even knows my cell number, since I don't use it, only use my Google Voice number. It's working out quite nicely now.

Voicemail Question

I have a Pixel XL and use google voice for voicemail. There is a tab in the phone which displays messages for Verzion Visual Voicemail. In the phone setup I changed voicemail to Google Voice. The messages do not show up on the tab in the phone app, I still have to use the Voice app. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have it all in one place.
Is there a way to get messages from Google Voice to show up in the voicemail tab of the phone?
Go in to settings g in the Google voice app. One of the options should be to display in call log with a check box next to it. Tic that and profit
That did it, thanks.

Turn off native messaging app notifications LOS 17.1 OnePlus 6T

Hello all,
On my OnePlus 6T running Android 10 and LOS 17.1, the main notification on-off slider is greyed out in the native mesaaging app, and in Setting -> Apps and Notifications. I cannot turn them off.
Need to keep the app active ( or get another ), because I use Google Voice for my primary number, though my *actual* cellular number is different. This means, that when someone texts me a V-card, I can't do anything with it in Google Voice ("File type not supported ".
To remedy this, I have the native LOS mrssaging app pointed at my actual cell number. In this way, every mesaage i receive the text in both apps. On the rare occasion someone sends me a V-card, I can see it and save the contact to my contacts in the native messaging app. I then periodically delete the messages in that app.
The problem is, that now I get notifications on both apps. I'd like to retain the notifications on Google Voice, but suppress notifications for the native messaging app.
Anyone have any insights into why I cannot turn of these notifications?
Thank you
NBUK
