Tab S 8.4 LTE SM-T705 random disconnects from mobile network

Hi
Anyone else get random disconnects from mobile network? My device says H+ has a good signal but can't transfer data. Enabling/disabling flight mode fixes. I believe it's linked to cell handover or LTE <--> WCDMA handover. Does not do it if device is stationary. Sim works fine in my xperia z3, likewise sim from Z3 (different network) has same issues when installed in TAB S.
To complicate things, I have also seen issues with BT tethering, using phone for data transfer when device in this non working state. Again, in/out of flight mode fixes. WiFi works just fine.
Device is latest stock firmware, not rooted because I like OTA, and have no time to fiddle these days.
Just switched it to WCDMA-only for a test tomorrow. I commute same route by train each day.
Really annoying. Afraid tab is headed for fleabay if I can't solve. Beginning to think it's a designed-in Samsung issue. [emoji20]

I am experiencing the same issue with my LTE signal. it says 4g with 2 bars of signal then suddenly the arrows stops so transmission of data also stops then airplane mode sometimes no longer work. i would have to put the device to WCDMA only then back to LTE.. I can force my device to use LTE only bad sadly the signal drops almost 1 minute after connection

Is your device exynos based or snapdragon. There are two variants doing the rounds with the snapdragon only in the US. On exynos based devices, an Intel LTE chipset provides the LTE connectivity. I believe the US version uses the (faster and better) snapdragon due to a lack of LTE band support in the frankenstein exynos/intel solution. I wonder if the intel lte chip does everything or if the exynos is left to do 2g/3g?
I have disabled 4G on my tab s and the random disconnects appear to have stopped. Did not buy a 4G tablet to have to disable 4G to make the ruddy thing usable though!
Device is also very jerky in comparison to my snapdragon based phone. Not enjoyable to use really. Prob due to all the junk (touchwiz) that samsung shove on it. Its a huge shame because I love the design and build of it, as well as the elegant way in which the stock cover attatches. Good hardware let down by very poor software for the most part.
I think i'll give up on it as a bad job, shove it on ebay and buy a Z3 Tablet Compact instead which is snapdragon 801 based.

Been fiddling with band settings in the service menu in order to solve this issue.

I have disabled the 2G,3G and 4G bands that my network does not use - at least it will save the device from hunting for stuff that it is never going to find. Of course, it will need to be re-enabled when I go abroad.
Will see if it makes any difference. One thing it is useful for is preventing the device switching from LTE to 3G where the LTE signal is marginal, and the 3G signal strong. Just disable the 3G band, and the device is forced to hold onto the LTE signal. Its also useful if you have a tablet and thus find 2G useless. Disable all the 2G bands and the device is prevented from connecting to 2G networks. It will then hold onto that 3G signal as much as possible rather than dropping down to a stronger 2G signal.

I have the exynos version of tabS 8.4.. this fooled me when I bought my device since I was hoping for a Snapdragon version.. but too late. I had to live with this.
what I normally use is *#2263# same with my galaxy note3.. I disable the wcdma and gsm. so forcing the device to LTE only. but this problem is that data transmission drops frequently.
when I tried what you said. signal seems to be better.. I'm still testing it out. thanks for this!

Possibly related is the S5 DUOS phone is also reporting issues with dropouts on LTE.....users are having to reset or enter Airplane mode to 'reset', could be a common chipset/firmware/modem issue perhaps.

So... I fixed my issue by buying a Sony Xperia Z3 Tab Compact.
Superb device, and so so so much faster than my Tab S + battery lasts much longer. Not had it long, but some initial thoughts here:

it's a LTE band problem ; this is how to fix it

first before u do anything , you have to look for the LTE frequencies used by ur provider , for example here in Morocco my provider Orange works on 800Mhz , 1800 Mhz and 2600 Mhz , which i LTE B3 ,B7,B20 .
So , i had to select only those bands only in the service menu (*#0011# : Back Back /UE setting & information/ Setting / Protocol /NAS/Network Control/Band Selection/[1] LTE BAND
All you need to select in the service menu is the Bands used by ur provider to avoid lost of network by ur Tablet when it s switching between bands which causes rebooting everytime .
i hope it works for u , because it works just fine for me

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Samsung Galaxy S8+'s LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.

I get a low 4g signal at work whereas on my s7 edge I didn't get anything

Mine is a lot better than any phone I've had before. Usually at home on all my other phones I have 1-2 bars and on the S8+ I have at least 4 bars.

Bars are no indication of true signal strength. My S8+ doesn't get nearly as strong of a signal as my Pixel XL. I drop signal a lot more often now. I was rather disappointed with the performance of the cell radio actually.

For me, the signal is about the same at home. But at work, the S8+ performs much better than the Note5 that I had... Must be an extra band or something. The Note5 would hang on to an unusable LTE signal or drop to 3G/1x inside my job. The S8+ stays on on LTE with a usable signal.

It's worst Then S8 as I used that before shifting to S8 plus. But download speed is great.

My S7 was better. The S7 ised a new duel antenna tech, I am not sure the S8 used it or not.

My AT&T Note 4 and my new S8+ get about the same signal, which is really disappointing

I generally see around 5-8dbm better then I did with my pixel xl at home..notice the s8+ does drop signal little easier tho then my pixel in fringe areas

Tested right outside my house. Never had these speeds on my Note 5.

Comming from a S6, the signals and speeds are far better, also my s6 was missing a few bands so never ever got speeds like this on my Jio 4G Network in India

At work on LTE Im getting 31 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. Not bad! Faster than our company wifi!

I used to get 54Mbps which WAS faster than the company wifi. Then we bumped up to 500Mb.

Poor Reception in Canada on Bell Mobility
I just got an unlocked S8+ that was apparently originally from Sprint (because that is where the home page goes in Samsung Internet).
I do not get very good reception on it – even in urban/suburban areas. Sometimes, when I am inside a building, it disappears altogether. I often get 1 or 2 bars on the reception indicator. If I check the “Sim Card Status” screen under settings I get -105 dBm 3 asu. I don’t really know what those numbers mean.
Is there anything I can do to improve reception? Should I be calling Bell and maybe they need to know what kind of phone I have? Should I expect an S8+ purchased directly from Bell (they also carry this phone) to have better reception? Or is the reception of “105 dBm 3 asu” fine and it’s just the indicator showing low levels?
As much as I like this phone I cannot be missing calls randomly. I have a business to run.

Hey fish you want it down, the dBm i mean. Here's a quote "-50 dBm is great signal or full bars. -120 dBm is very poor signal or a dead zone." you at 105 dBm is garbage, no wonder your missing calls.. Since you are experiencing network issues, you could get a replacement, but i don’t think it will make much difference. as it's all same hardware. Why not get a Google Pixel XL i heard they got awesome reception! Or if you’re at home a lot, purchase an lte repeater booster ? Problem Solved!

Drop in signal & Block sign
Im living in UAE - and my service provider is etisalat, and my 4G signal is dropping and sometimes i get block sign, i tried my sim in different device it working.

I went through a whole “carrier switching” routine (details found somewhere on these forums) and after changing the CSC to Canadian I flashed Bell Mobility's firmware. The phone now shows that it’s an SM-G955W which is the Canadian model. And apparently now supports additional LTE bands 29(700) and 30(2300) which were missing from the SM-G955U (I determined this by dialing *#2263#).
I have no idea if it *really* supports these bands or just *says* that it does but my gut tells me that it really does support them. I suspect that the hardware for the SM-G955U and SM-G955W is 100% identical and any differences are controlled through software only.
And I seem to have better reception now. I am getting 4 to 5 bars in most places and under -100 dBm in most places. Plus Wi-Fi calling works now so I have reception in my basement at my house.
The true test will be when we go camping next summer.

Network strength difference on S10+ vs Pixel (or others)

Hi,
Bought S10+ in INDIA yesterday however i saw low/less network bars hence i checked the signal strength for comparison.
To my surprise, this was a known bug on "some" S10+ hence i should request for a replacement from Samsung but i need to be sure before Samsung acknowledges. No call drops recorded as of now.
I get -78 to -84 dBM on Pixel while i am getting -81 to -91dBM on S10+. (using same location for comparison)
Also, i used to get LTE on my PIXEL XL and now i get 4G sign on S10+
Does anyone compared the network strength with their old phones or am i the only one facing this network issue on S10+?

Regarding the LTE and 4G symbol, that's probably because India doesn't have real LTE yet. It's basically glorified HSPA+ and carriers are bsing everyone.
Here in the US I get LTE, but when I took this phone to New Delhi, India and popped in my Vodafone Sim card, I only received LTE in parts of New Delhi (speeds up to 40mbps/40mbps), other parts it was 4G (speeds up to 10mbps/2mbps). So that's that regarding the symbols, pixel probably didn't have a differentiation between either connections and labeled it as LTE.
Download LTE Discovery, it will tell you which exact bands you are connected to, you can pop your sim card back into the Pixel for comparison.

Just got my Note 10+ 5G. Whilst I wait for sleepy Kettering to get the 5G coverage, I was wondering about 'LTE Advanced' (4.5g 4g+?). I'm with the UK network '3' and on my previous phone - the Huawei Mate 9 - it supported LTE advanced (I knew this because I got a '4g+' icon instead of the normal 4g icon in the status bar).
Since putting the same sim into my Note10+ I've never seen the the 4g+ icon! It might be a coincidence (as the signal has always been a bit patchy round these parts) but I'm curious! I'm well out of my depth, technically speaking, so is there anyone who can advise me. I tried calling 3's helpdesk, but they seemed less clued-up than me.

I get the same on 3, but then in areas where I've had 4G+ with the 5G phone a speed test has shown sub 5meg download speeds while near my house where it shows standard 4G I see speeds up to 120meg, I'm thinking there is just a reporting issue between 3 and this phone, or something is very wrong. It's the same as the volte icon never shows up but 4G stays active in calls so it has to be active, it just seems strange.
But then where I live is getting 5G this year, so that will be interesting to see.

Just heard back from 3 who said they'll reset the phone from their end, but I'm not holding my breath for it to make any difference.

Question A52S signal strenght?

I'm seriously considering replacing my moto G8 power with the A52s 5g.
I sometimes work in areas with low signal strength so I want a phone with decent antenna. Samsung traditional did pretty well in this area but I have seen some reports about poor signal with the A52 (none s version).
Most reviews claim that a52 and a52s is identical except for the updated soc. But a52s have lower sar values indicating better antenna.
So I would basically like to know how people experience the signal strength with the A52s?
I know user experience isn't scientific but I think experience compared to other phones could provide usable information, so any info would be highly appreciated...

It's not very good for me, not better than my old S4 and both haven't great signal strength (at my locations). Sometimes I haven't any signal in buildings that are high and have glass walls.

Hello, I got an A52s 5G, also come from an S4 I9505 and I'm amazed by this very fluid A52s, the signal capture is excellent, even in extreme conditions it keeps the signal stable, but it all depends on the operator and location, I'm in Portugal the coverage of operators here is good.
In the rest, the A52s doesn't disappoint for the range where it is inserted, very good screen, automony even in extreme use lasts more than a day, the gps is quick to detect, wifi, bluetooth, it works perfectly, in normal calls, video calls , social networks, and numerous other applications that I use so far 5 stars, the cameras are very good for those who are not very picky they draw pretty good spells, video is not something I use regularly, but it is within acceptable limits for this model, better just going to other more expensive ranges.
in the end it turns out to be an excellent phone for the price it costs in the mid-range.

That is nice to hear. It seems Portugal use same LTE frequencies as my country so antenna efficiency should be identical.

I have been using my a52s for 2 weeks and find the antenna quality average -just about equal to my previous phone a moto g8 power.
But the moto g8 had problems reconnecting when I moved from an area without signal back to a location with fine signal, requiring toggling airplane mode to regain a signal.
The A52s doesn't have this problem. So that is good.

Is it worth to buy this phone? It would be my first premium phone. Right now using 5 year old LeEco Le 2

I like it a lot!
It is pretty fast, battery easily last a day with 8 hours screen on time. (I'm a power user -on a normal day I stream tidal hifi and run google maps while driving 3 hours). 120hz screen is very smooth -my first high refresh screen so didn't really know what to expect. Compared to my previous phones from Motorola and Xiaomi everything just seems to work out of the box on this Samsung. And because of the physical similarity with regular A52 accessories like screen protector and cases are very easy to purchase.
Only slightly negative is Samsung's apps -I'm used to google contacts, calendar and calc. Samsungs browser is kind of nice but the other Samsung apps seems pretty redundant to googles stock apps.
I wanted an affordable and snappy phone with dual sim (it serves double purpose as work and private phone), flat screen, 5g and plastic back. For me Snapdragon soc and water/dust protection was also "nice to have" features. So the A52S is pretty perfect for my usage.
That said I got this phone cheap (with a 6 month contract). If I had to pay full retail I probably would have kept using my (painfully slow) moto g8 power. I honestly don't know any cheaper phones that would meet all my demands...

Signal reception is good where I live, Sweden, Europe, for the A52s. I have tested it with some of the major networks and it does well on par with most other current models. I can't really detect any substantial, real-world difference between the newer phones. They all perform the same under the same circumstances.

I have the A52 5G (none s) version.. I'm with T-Mobile, and have absolutely no issues with signal strength.

In my A52s, GPS signal is little weaker than previous J5 2017 and wifi much weaker than J5 2017. And USB OTG don't recognized by phone. (That is check in Samsung Service).

Makes sense considering wave reflections on mirrors and attenuation because of the wall thickness/height.
