Question Long press lag on the bottom corners with way less touch responsiveness in most Poco f5 devices - Xiaomi Poco F5 / Redmi Note 12 Turbo (China)

Hey everyone,
recently I bought a Poco f5 and had lag when typing fast and noticed that there was lag in the bottom corners, returned the phone, and got a new one and it has the same problem, I tried another unit from someone and it also has the same thing, it annoys me so much as sometimes while typing fast some keys are skipped because of the slow responsiveness in corners, if it is there for a reason, it shouldn't be affecting the typing experience, it is mostly from the firmware but idk tbh, I had the same thing in a mi 11 ultra and sold it, the problem isn't with specific apps, it is within the whole system (probably most poco f5 phones have that thing).
How to check if you have the same issue: go to CIT and go to touch test then long press the x in the bottom corners and compare it with the top corners.
things I have tried but none worked :
1- flashing xiaomi.eu.
2- resetting the phone.
3- changing long-press delay in settings to short.
4- changing the navigation gestures.
5- searching online for other fixes.
here is what I am talking about:

I'm about to buy a Poco F5 and interested to see what others have to say regarding this.
Watching this thread.

Mine f5 have the same little delay but one click works instantly, that's interesting. Tbh i didnt notice that before reading this post, this isn't big issue if any.

Similar behaviour in Nova Launcher, not noticable in every day life. As another person mentioned I didnt even notice this before seeing this post.
Could be some sort of edge palm rejection thing? And solved in future updates/custom ROMs?

yeah, but one click isn't as responsive as anywhere else, long clicks are annoying when holding "a" down and when pressing shift and also when pressing the symbols switch button are not as responsive too. it is especially annoying when you make your keyboard smaller and less shifted up thus more keys are closer to these corners which affects typing experience even more. I can't even stand typing on the phone after coming from oneplus 7 pro which was much much more responsive to type on and almost 4 years older, maybe because I type fast and used to better responsiveness I notice it easily.

I am afraid that it is a firmware or kernel thing.

it is not in the launchers only, it is everywhere within the system (worse responsiveness in bottom corners).

[Q] Input Lag

I went from an Optimus 3D to the Note II
The Note 2 is times better of course, but there is one thing i cant get over.... INPUT LAG
The Optimus 3D is much more responsive in games... I just cant get the timing right in most games because of it... its very noticble
Is there anything i can do about this?
No there is no solution. The Tegra 3 devices have the lowest input lag. The Note 2 is a horrible device. The Nexus 4 is by far the "smoothest" Android device i.e. there is much less microstuttering in the animations, but it also have visible input lag. If you want minimimal input lag buy an iPhone. Once you use an iPhone 5, you'll facepalm for every Android device that you foolishly thought was responsive or had "surpassed" the iPhone.
You might want to try aosp on your phone.

It's a hardware issue. No ROM can counter the input latency between when you touch the screen and it registers the touch.
I think it's do with software optimization/config. I'm not that thorough with this kind of issue but I read a while back its just the way android and iOS handles touch input. The lag is probably due to the way android processes between an accidental or intentional touch.

Accidental touch filtering will have no effect when dragging an object on the screen. Even while dragging a list or page it is centimetres behind you finger. On iOS it is almost stuck to your finger. The Show Touches developer option will demonstrate this clearly.
The problem exists because of the nonstandard 58hz display refreshrate on our note2. There's no way to get around it.
from my understanding, most of the lag is caused by project butter. vsync with constant triple buffer means frames are being prerendered, which means response to touches will be seen 2-3 frames behind each time. thats around 16.6ms of lag introduced per prerendered frame (assuming 60hz), which can be noticeable in fast paced games.
I havent noticed any input lag with the Galaxy S/S2/S3 and Note 1, I would suppose all of the devices have the same input lag?

Yea just checked it out and I have to agree. Although the iPhone does have lag but not as much as the Note 2.

Hi,
Then you probably don't notice it, maybe cause for you, this is the way a phone has to respond, and maybe you're not used to very low latency devices (and also screen and computer mouses that can sometimes approach 0ms latency).
My hope is that a screen can't have that much latency, so it HAS to have a way to reduce this horrible input lag. Yes, for me it's horrible cause i'm used to no latency, and there is obviously more than 1/10s latency here : more than my SGS1.

I'm talking about input lag, not being laggy, do you confirm that you saw an improvement on display/touch latency with another kernel ? If yes, wich one(s) please ?

i have rooted and tweaked my note2 (just like all of my android devices) first day. Because of this i cant give an answer for stock kernels..
But i never noticed lag problem on games or any other area on NEAK kernel.

lag not found in sgs i9000
i know about this lag, its very obvious for note2. but for my old sgs i9000 with cm10.1, there's not lag. its both jelly bean. i think it has to do with vsync which only max out at 60. could this be modified at the kernel level?
Maybe this app can do this

Nope, doesn't help, cause maybe you don't even notice it, like at least 80% of poeple.
I'll try rooting and your app first, thanks for trying to help.
psycotrompus -> Not a problem to be limited to 60fps, as the screen is 60hz (or 58hz here, not sure), but for sure yes : Vsync adds latency, it pre renders between 2 to 4 frames, so 2 to 4x 1/60s : 30 to 60ms latency, just for that step. Add the capacitive detection, the screen hardware input lag : Can be easy 120ms latency minimum. :s
I consider that after 50ms, the feeling isn't even natural, and above 100ms, it feels unresponsive.
I'm still searching but i'm not sure if old methods for rooting are working on the updated ROM, if i could avoid formating or using my JigRig, would be good , please does anyone know ?
It's pretty bad on the Note 2 I find. My old Desire was better as is my wife's Xperia Ray.
For anyone who doesn't notice it bring down the notification bar and move your finger up and down and your finger can easily be 2cm ahead of where the bar is on screen. Or maybe don't do it or you might start noticing it.

You can also go to your app list, put your finger on an icon, move right and left (or up and down depending of the scrolling orientation of your app list), quite fast => If at anytime you're able to see the icon that is supposed to be under your finger, means the display's late compared to your finger, and you can conclude that there IS input lag. Then if you don't notice it in basic use, then good for you, but I (some of us) do.

Touchscreen delay - anyone else experience this?

Running the latest global beta 7.6.1 ROM just updated tonight... was same on 7.5.16 too
My Google pixel does not experience this.. It is really bad on games too - like Pixel Gun and Minecraft PE
I have similar stuff happening on 7.5.19 Xiaomi EU ROM. But it doesn't bother me.
Basically, I think the ROM gives some tolerance on how far should the initial movement has gone to unlock the pointer from the initial position. Definitely not a hardware problem.
Does anyone else have this issue? I am thinking about returning my MI6.. can anyone else take a video using the multitouch tester like me, and doing a touch and fine movement on the screen without making the circle move? please help! I really need to know if this is just the phone, or whether mine is faulty. thanks so much in advance

Actually the touch is very sensitive, just the way they decide that if you put down the finger like that, no mistouch (no movement is recorded). Whenever I play game, just push enough and move your finger and I have no problem with that (as a habit of gamers, I don't stiched my fingers on the screen that much).
Actually if you put the finger down and move it a little, it move the circle. But if you hard push for longer, slightly move don't move the circle. Hope you can sort it out.
Sent from my MI 6 using Tapatalk
That's what I have suggested to him too.
There shouldn't be a problem if you immediately move your finger upon touch. It's just if you don't move, it'll create some threshold in order to the cursor to be movable from the initial position.
Does the multitouch works good when you are not holding the phone in the hand? try putting the phone on a pilliow and try using 5 fingers on the screen with this multitouch tester app and see if it recognize all 5 fingers.
I had the nexus 7 2013 and it had that problem :/

There's actually no problems at all touching the screen. its only when I touch then drag, I need to move my finger greater than 5mm for it to recognise the finger is moving - if moving the finger slow... Watch the video I posted in first post and you understand.
In a game, for example. playing a FPS game like Minecraft - you select the block you want to remove and then you swipe your finger from that block to the next its very jerky, because the pointer does not unlock with small finger movement. takes big movement then its unlocked. once unlocked its fine - the whole time I don't lift my finger from the screen..
So its really annoying playing games - because I have to touch the screen, then swipe to unlock the pointer, then I can aim and shoot at the enemy or remove blocks in minecraft.
Some have said its the game, but you can also try with the stock launcher - going between screens of apps, you swipe left or right, it takes 5mm finger movement before the screen starts to move to the next..
I tried the inbuilt Finger touch sensor tester, and the touch and move finger 5mm is represented as 2 pixel dots - instead of a line. so something is farked up in the software. I have 2 x MI6 (bought another to test) and both seems the same... Xiaomi need to fix...
Well my Mi 6 is on the way from GearBest China and when i will get it i will install the Global Rom and will try to do this test with this app and will see if i have the same problem as you.
Purchased mine on Gearbest aswell (international rom), came with 8.0.2.0 upgradeable to 8.2.2.0, I upgraded and I have not this problem at all.
Maybe they fixed it with the latest update?

I also have Nexus 7 2013. The problem was jittery touch when you do multi-touch. It's kinda different problem.
But the case in Nexus 7 2013, it can be fixed by pushing the fix via ADB.
Same here.
But i think the developers want it.
I think it is a feature, not a bug. For better usebility.
Yes lol, a feature that we don't really want exactly like the notification light new feature which is that it only have one color - white.
Hmmm.. Maybe I'll order the OnePlus5 when its out... and use the MI6 as a spare

I tested this, on a friends Xiaomi Rednote 4, the touch delay wasn't there as far as we could see, so it doesen't seem to a feature of MIUI, maybe it's a bug or something.
It was running MIUI 8.1 I believe.
If it is a bug, you should ask Xiaomi to fix it.

(High latency) input

I just change my phone from my old one (Xperia C3 Dual) to A2 lite, and the first thing I noticed is that every time I scroll, it fell slower/less responsive; It's like you are scrolling something heavier (that what I fell?). My old phone is really laggy, running android 5.1, but still give me the better feeling when scrolling through setting, fb, web,... Is this how most xiaomi phone is like, or is there something with my unit?
I don't think there's something wrong with your unit. I have the same problem too, especially when typing something (for example in WhatsApp)... If anybody knows a fix, please post it.
After some research, there seem to be a same problem on the mi A1.

It sends to this topic here in XDA.
It says that it's a screen problem. You could check the LCD model installed in your device entering the test menu *#*#6484#*#* and doing the first test on the list "Version information". Then you could report it here, so we can check if the problem is related to some brand of screens or not.
For my device, that doesn't seem to suffer this problem at the moment, the screen (and other related hardware) is:

Have same LCD as you and do not feel there is a problem with the Input latency. But to be honest sometimes the sensor does not register some touch events. It is really occasionally, for example after unlock the phone with the fingerprint and try to swipe right in the launcher, sometimes I need to touch two times, could be probably the unlock animation still does not finish (but I see the launcher).
Sometimes while typing if I do not press exactly in the center of the letter it does not register my touch input.
Could be probably that I had a Huawei y9 2018 with 18:9 (instead of 19:9) and bigger camera and I used to that and needs more time for the a2 lite.

Yes, I think so, because of it not happening always, and because doing the touchscreen test (from the test menu I posted before) it looks fine.
same problem here i also had this issue on on older redmi note which was fixed by flashing with different firmware.
I can't replicate any of these problems. Maybe I got lucky with the touchscreen model? My version information is the same though..
Happens to me also on home screen with a heavy lwp and typing on messenger. Maybe a cpu or gpu issue? Can't handle the load?

I was just going to buy the phone tomorrow
I had a similar problem when I had Xposed installed, removed it and now the phone is working great. So if you have Xposed, this is probably your problem.
Can you guys shed some more light on the issue? I am interested how many of you are encountering it and to what level.
No issues here. The phone is smooth, and I neither have Xposed nor Magisk installed.
I have the same problem
Help
i did this , open developer option then tick force gpu rendering and set animation scale to 0.5
it helps to get rid off laggy
anyone using crossbreeder lite (magisk module) on a2lite?
Me too with Mi 6x,
having high latency input and got keyboard typing errors, latency is prominent when scrolling smth even in settings scrolling. I hav compared with redmi note 5 side by side and note 5 did really fast touch TBH...
may b it got fixed by getting miui + touchpanel firmware updates Zzz

Touchscreen a bit "laggy"

tl;dr my phone is laggy only when I'm typing and sometimes reverse letters.
I've had a Xiaomi Mi 5 until recently, then I bought a Redmi Note 8 and I noticed the typing experience isn't the same. I mean, the screen is different and I didn't use MIUI on the Mi 5, but that's the only difference. I use the GBoard app with the exact same configurations as it were on the Mi 5.
The problem lies mostly when I type letters that are in the border of the screen, like "q", "p" or the button that change to the Symbols and Numbers. The typing feels a bit "laggy" and sometimes the q's and p's reverses the order like when I type "problem" it goes like "rpoblem", same with "queue" and it goes like "uqeue". When I type fast, the problem always occurs, when I type slowly it's more rare, but also occurs.
For the center of the screen, no other letters does this reversing thing, but I can feel that when I press the letters, there's a micro-delay between me pressing and the letter actually showing, something that I've never felt while using the Mi 5.
I'm tempted on rooting my phone and changing the OS, but I don't know if it'll solve the problem. Did anyone feel or notice something similar to my rpoblem?
(I've had to correct nearly all the words that came out reversed while writing this)

But if you have any other keyboard app suggestion for me to try I'll do it.

Used to use Swiftkey, but Microsoft.
I mainly use GBoard, its a good app. Most keyboard apps I see on the store are either paid, riddled with ads or something from Clean Master (data collection, privacy issues, and ads). Your best bet would be sideload a keyboard app from APKMirror such as the Xperia keyboard, remembered that to be quite good.

I don't think it's worth the effort since I'm using it like this for the past three weeks. I'm thinking about unlocking the bootloader next week when I'm home to install another ROM, do you have any suggestions? I don't quite like MIUI.
Also, is there a RN8 Telegram group?

There is Pixel Experience and POSP. Haven't tried either yet though. You can also wait for LineageOS.
Not sure about the telegram group, but there's been some stuff on XDA about telegram groups for a device though.
its a rom issue
change the rom

I think I'm gonna try POSP. For now, I don't want to lose my warranty. About the tianma panel problem (temporary image retention), do you think I should try a replacement?

If you are still under warranty, by all means give it a try.
The replacement may not come with a different panel though, as some have been stating.
Hey man! Did the ROM change fix it?
I just received my RN8 today and immediately noticed the laggy borders. Even in the nav bar.

Question Fast swiping/scrolling issue in games

Has anyone experience any issues when swiping or scrolling in games ?
I have posted some information and videos on it on reddit... https://www.reddit.com/user/Stanleyjello
Swiping/scrolling fast in apps (non-games) works fine, also using a s-pen in games works fine -but when you use your finger then that when things go weird (swiping slowly works -but not when you do it fast).
(note: swiping and scrolling fast works fine on my other Samsung devices -but is very noticeable on the Fold 3 and does affect gameplay). This is my second device now as the first had these issues as well.
I have also contacted Samsung (but I am still waiting to hear from them).
Would anyone here be able to confirm they are experiencing these issues as well ?
Cheers
anyone ?
Please could someone help me test by downloading either GolfBlitz or FruitNinja2 to see if they are getting the same issues like I was in the videos.

I tested fruit ninja 2 and seems every thing is fine.
I have some others touch problem, sometimes the screen touch freeze for milliseconds, for example when i am typing quickly some words ignored....
I think the lack of response here has convinced me to return this device.
I have had touch issues with games off and on and what solved 90% of the issues that I had was to go into the Labs and for each game with issues, turn the Aspect Ratio to App Default.
Every game (in particular PokemonGo) that I changes to App Default has, for the most part, resolved the issues with touch.
Hope this helps!
Yes, I tried that (and so many other things).
Would you mind trying out Golf Blitz ?
I have tried everything (different forums, stores, samsung support, etc) to try and get someone to help me test this.

Ok, so I thought my next meeting was at the top of the hour, it is, just not this hour.
SO, I installed it and did some tests with playing. Fast and Slow swipes and did not have any issues with playing the game and even getting some really nice shots in!
The ball meter is at the center of the screen which I thought might cause some issues and it worked without any issues at all. Just make sure I got all the test points in, here is what I did:
1. Went through the tutorial to learn and make shots. Couple parts were a little confusing, but after getting the hang of it, not issues.
2. Played a few holes with others and won them without issue. I used power-ups and some shots without and still no touch issues presented themselved.
3. I played around and did normal swings and quick swings and still no issues.
Let me know if there is anything else you want me to mess with.
Thanks!
Ah ok, could you try swiping quickly through the list of Teams and Players in the 'Leaders' area
https://www.reddit.com/r/ZFold3/comments/px87vm
In the video where I am scrolling through the Teams and Players, I am only swiping upwards (down the list). This happens whilst playing the game as well -but is more difficult to show.

Looks good for me. I am not having any issues at all with the scrolling.
wow ok so I might have a faulty device then.
And you could scroll fast through the list without it stuttering or bouncing ? (like in the video)
Would it be possible to post a video of the scrolling?
Also do you have the latest update (Oct 1st Security patch) ?

I sometimes notice the slow scrolling in random apps in portrait. If I turn the phone to landscape then its quick. Go back to portrait and its quick again. Seems to be very random but usually fixes it for me.
