Integrated WiFi on a MDA2- Shoud I do it? What do you think? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello folks,
I've been thinking on this.
I think its very possible to install a normal SD WiFi into the device and I remember that someone talked about this in the past but I think the thread got lost in the last DB crash.
Does anyone know or has some info?
I will take the risk in doing this if someone gives me some feedback.
I tore appart my Socket SD WiFi and belive me, it's really small and thin!
I think it's just a matter of soldering the contacts to the correct positions on the slot, but still, i'm not sure what would happen if once soldered I insert a memory card...
Some say that even with the WiFi card turned off but inserted will still draw power from the battery, how true is that?
Any feedback is really appreciated.
TIA,
Rayan

Though it might be interesting for the rest of us, don't do it. It think you will fail. Reasons are:
- there is most likely not enough free space inside the device
- even if there was, the WLAN antenna would then be inside the device, causing all sorts of electromagnetic interference and disturbing the nornam operation of your device. Also, you'd get really bad reception, as the device's cover shields the antenna
- if you solder things to the SD port's PINs, you can no longer insert another SD Card. Well, physically you can, but electrically you then have two SD cards, which will overload the card slot pin drivers; and logically you also have two cards, and when some software talks to "the" card, both will try to respond, causing undefined behavious.
So, unless I missed something very basic (like today being April 1st... ;-)), this sounds like a really bad idea.
Cheers, Daniel

I was thinking of doing this to the Imate Jam which does not have wifi. The XDAIIs has it internal so I dont think it would be that bad. You cant unplug it also and I dont think it uses more power while switch off.
But at the end of the day, its your phone so do what you want, just let us know how you go.
Good luck

Thank you for your feedback!
That's a good point zakeen, however the XDAIIs was meant to be like that.
But I really don't think the interference could be that bad since the WiFi antenna will be just a couple of inches closer to the rest of the hardware. And even though it's not a real test, I already placed my MDA2 close to my WiFi router's antenna and it didn't cause any interference at all... But still I might be wrong and the telephone part of the MDA2 might loose a few reception bars since I plan to place the WiFi module right on top of the cellular antenna...
I think the real problem resides on what tadzio mentions about the piggy back not working... :?
In terms of space, I'm sure it will fit (I already know my MDA2's internals after several disections in the past!).
Any other ideas?
TIA,
Rayan

Wonderful They border, with two xxxxxx! Recently time which I am thinking about making a false SD card that allows me to accede to the contacts and to experiment without having to open the PDA, but do not have a SD with wifi (I have it in CF format with backpack) I think that if the antenna wifi is behind the black cover there are no problems since that part is not chromed (for that reason it is there where antenna GSM goes)

when we power on the diamond the power signal is more hard, after some second comes down. Creed that some application or service of wm6 has to that to make with this.
this is because the antenna hardvare it's on the bottom, and when you hold it in your hand you will block the reception. you can try with signal antenna booster...
he does have a point tho, if i put my orange sim in my sony w880 i get a good 3g reception, but when i put it in my diamond i can only get standard gprs, id expect more for the money i paid for this fone

I thought the "antenna" is by camera? Dont u think it's counter-intuitive to have it at the bottom where your palm will most likely covers it while talking?
i think its at the bottom! try it!
the signal always decreases when i cover the bottom part of my phone with my hand!
crap design if you ask me

just one remark:
are you sure that 3G is enabled in our diamond? some people do this (using GSM only) to get a longer stand-by time

if we change manualy the value of "Signal Strength" max to 90 the bars signal change up.
But this value reset after a soft reset
i dont know if we can stop this value at 90
i dont know if this is only a graphic change.
i have both setted to 100 !!!
i tryed over 90 but bars signal not apperas.
only until 90 the bars up to max

this changes only the status information for the top icons of systembar.
like in your screenshots, having a signal strength of "30", you have one bar in graphical information.
now with "90" you have a row of bars.
two bars are the value "60" on my device
so you are only modifying status information for the output of the device, sounds logical if you look on the registry tree where these values are and what other values are possible to change.
i have the same problem my signal power is very bad with the diamond
Since i've upgraded my rom i started having problems with my signal reception.
ROM Version 2.03.456.2 WWE
ROM date 12/23/08
Radio version 1.09.25.23
Protocol version 52.51.25.26H
When i had 1.93. rom did not have such a problem?!
if im not mistaken the antennas are bi-amplified. there are 2 antennas. one on the top and one on the bottom. i could be wrong. but look behind your battery cover, btw my sprint diamond is by far the fastest phone iv ever had as far as browsing and get a consistent 1000kbps.very impressed for a windows 6.1 phone. tf3d is what screws up the speed
ok. diamond have only one antenna (at the bottom) the worst design I ever seen. I have to change the device and "upgraded" to blackstone for that, because I have a very expensive internet connection at Vodafone.
so...
If you open the battery case, at the botttom you have four screw to open the "antenna support plastic" ... how to tell to be understud... between those four screw you will see some "cuts" I mean it is a cooper foil stuck on the plastic but it's black too (painted). that's is the antenna.
Only REAL things that you can do to increase the signal:
1. change your radio
2. hardware antenna boost.
1. To see what the radio it's the best in your region, you will have to test your signal with different radios, for a couple of minutes, but you will have to have your phone in the same position (in your house) and when you read the signal strenght your body must be in the same position for all the tests because this will influence or block the transmission. the best way is to put it in front of you on the desk and read the signal from the same position after a few min.
2. You can try to attach another antenna connected with other one but this will brake your warranity. BE AWARE!
SO if you like to go foward with this I can post some pic here in the next 24 hours from now, because right now I don't have a diamond. all you have to do is to tell me if you will like to see how to disansamble a diamond.
Good luck and all my best.

Yes, I would love to see how to attach another antenna or some kind of hardware booster to the diamond. Sounds really cool. But do you get better (I mean REALLY better) signal after this modification?
Thanks!

There is more then 1 antenna. The plastic at the top side of the phone (camera area) has the same painted plastic foil cover as the bottom, if you look at it carfully under a strong light you will notice the same sort of "cuts" on it.
So there is another antenna at the top also.

We have not rooted the device yet so cant really do much.

Happened to me a couple of days after I bought it. I cleaned the microUSB port and the problem disappeared. Be careful not to bend any of the contacts in there.
Could be a bug with your USB controller on your computer too. In the past, we found that the ipod's had the same issue.

I used a thick needle with a piece of cotton fabric wrapped around one end. Gently rubbed the copper contacts and that was it. It was hard for me to see inside, but I think I saw traces of corrosion before I cleaned it.

First I hope there was only water on the toilet...
And depending on how long the phone was on the water it could still work, I'd recommend making sure the phone is off, taking out the battery, and letting everything dry a couple days without trying to turn it on nor connecting it (that may ruin the phone if it still works).
Also, being from Mexico myself, I can tell you that depending on the part of the country you're on, there may be plenty of places to take your phone to be repaired (again depending on how much it was damaged)

Question Xiaomi 11 5G Lite NE Proximity sensor bug

I have the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE (lisa) device, originally with the EEA software.
Suffering a lot because of the "proximity sensor bug" and being stupid enough not to research properly before buying the damn phone. You know, it's famous, they didn't put a proper proximity sensor inside, but somethnig ultrasonic blah-blah and it doesn't work okay, so the screen wouldn't turn off when in conversation.
Now, they didn't fix this in the official MIUI 13 EEA, or they don't know how and they don't care. I was wondering if the same proximity sensor bug is present in the Xiaomi.eu ROM, given the fact it's based on Chinese ROM and frequently updated? I would gladly flash it, I want to know because it takes some time to unlock the bootloader and some time to install everything back.
Or, if somebody found a way to fix this nonsense somehow...
Thank you.
For me i am on MIUI 13 and the proximity censor works normal for me.
EMIU 13? Maybe you mean MIUI 13? What exactly is the software version ? Mine is 13.0.5.0 SKOEUXM
Do you have a screen protector and a case? It seems it's somehow related to them...
I'm on the latest update and proximity sensor is working fine. No issues at all.

Pity... So many people are reporting this issue
Could it be related to the factory screen protector?
I don't think so. I have factory screen protector installed.
Bonjour,
Merci

MOD EDIT: English Translation Below
Hello,
I have the same problem with this phone since I bought it.
I left the original screen protector and have a protective shell.
I'm on MIUI 12.5.14.0 RKOMIXM.
When I put the phone to my ear (with or without a protective case), the screen almost never turns off. I have to turn it off myself all the time so it doesn't accidentally react with my face. When I activate the loudspeaker while on a call, sometimes the screen turns off by itself for no reason.
I'm waiting for MIUI 13 to be available to see if this update fixes this bug but I don't really believe it.
If anyone has found a solution, I would like to know it.
Thank you
Unfortunately, it seems Xiaomi doesn't care about this problem. Its quite common though. There's even a poll in a popular Russian forum about proximity sensor work satisfaction.
I cannot say it can be reproduced 100%, but it happens in like 85-90% of conversations and it really messes things up.
I am surprised that so few people are discussing it here. It is a real problem and one that cannot just be ignored

You are one of the lucky few. This sensor issue is making me hate my phone when I'm actually using it like a phone. If this issue wasn't happening this phone would be perfect for me. I couldn't find any solutions and I checked everywhere trust me. I also tried eu rom but it didn't solve it. Now I'm on custom pixel os rom and it doesn't solve it either.

Sounds grim... I think not only they don't care that much about the problem, but they also CANNOT fix it, due to the lack of real infrared proximity sensor in the phone.
Pity! It's a really good phone, apart for that issue.

Yes, it is indeed a very good phone. Top value for money! I switched to the European ROM (so from MIUI 12 to MIUI 13) but as I expected, it didn't fix the problem. I'm going to try the pixelOS ROM but I don't expect miracles either.

I confirm what I said in my previous post, I switched to a Xiaomi.eu ROM (and not pixelOS because I can't install it) and I find, as expected, the same problem with the sensor of proximity !
This is a hardware problem, not a software one.
MIUI 12.5.8 EEA, proximity works fine for me both in the mobile and WhatsApp calls
No screen protector

You should have looked beyond the survey. Then you would have seen a method of correcting the problem.
It is to calibrate the proximity sensor.
Translate:
1. Open the dialer and dial *#*#6484#*#* (the engineering menu will open)
2. Press the three dots in the upper right corner. In the drop-down list select "Additional tools".
3. Press "Speaker PA calibration test."
4. Bring the smartphone to your ear in an upright position (as in a normal conversation) at a distance of about 5 cm.
5. Start the calibration (press "Calibrate Speaker PA").
6. Wait until calibration is completed (the sound in the speaker will disappear).
7. Exit the calibration menu.

Originally I didn't have a problem but I started to have serious troubles upon putting the screen protector (on almost every call my ear activated Mute or even worse Airplane mode, sometimes the backlight, etc)
Now, after the Calibration it is somewhat better - in 20+ or so calls it happened again once or twice
I now made more steps to prevent
- switched to the new Control center that pulls-off from right (to make it harder for my ear to pull down the Control center)
- reorganized the icons in Control center
And most important, now I take care to keep the top border of the phone pressed to my ear, but the rest of the phone apart from my ear/face to prevent touching
I also monitored during the last days the screen while on the call and it didn't activate
Definitely, this (ultrasonic) virtual sensor is not a good solution, but at least (with additional care) I can now use my phone for the calls again
I had issues on with my other Xiaomi phones with virtual proximity sensors, but it works on this phone flawless for me. Don't think a regular sensor is always better. On OnePlus, the 9R and 9RT phones have a notoriously awful proximity sensor. It's just companies spending 0 on quality control basically and rushing out phones.
Never, ever, in many years I've been using smartphones, have I had such an awful experience with the proximity sensor! I really want to throw this phone away because of that. Such a shame, Xiaomi!
Tried all the solutions. none of them work in my case. Proximity sensor work is so erratic that it messes up basic things (like conversation over the phone!!!). Very annoying!
All probs started when Xiaomi began using a virtual Proxy despite old Proxy sensor method... and they didn't solve it at all.
It’s a measure of how much they actually care about their customers
Guys, try a new method using a special program.
