Modernize the ROM - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi @ll
Exists a method in order to modernize the ROM without to use external logons?
As an example through the SD?
Tanks

Maybe this will help:
Hi Embly,
First off, you would find more information on this problem by using the correct english term, "Upgrading the ROM".
Now, there is a method to do this, but I warn you against rushing into it, as it is fairly difficult, and you could end up breaking your phone. Are you sure you need to do this? Why can't you use the USB cable to upgrade?
If you are sure this is what you want to do check the forum topic Here
Please be careful though.

Can anyone help upgrading ROM on O2 ENG XDA??

I have recently asked a couple of questions on how to upgrade my ROM on my current O2 XDA. (I was trying to unlock it but could not use the unlock pgm because the ROM version was not current)
I have had a few excellent responses. But not being to computer literate, particularly on upgrading my ROM. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Does anyone know where to obtain a step by step guide to updating the ROM. Also I had asked about safeguarding my existing ROM until the upgrade was successful. Can someone help by answering the following?
I have downloaded the relevant versions of ROM to apply
1) How do I back up my current ROM so that I can re-apply in the event of a problem, i.e. is it possible to back it up to SD and also on my desktop?
2) Is it possible to copy the new ROM you wish to apply to SD/MMC card and then apply it?
3) What is the differences between radio versions I here so much spoke about it and don’t understand this?
Any responses would be very appreciated, hopefully I’ll get my answer in the one go or I can open the relevant thread. Thanks in advance and a merry xmas to you all.
Ok first thing you want to do is to read these three pages:
http://www.xda-developers.com/rom/
http://www.xda-developers.com/XDArit/
http://www.xda-developers.com/bootloader/
They should give you a reasonable understanding of whats involved to update your ROM.
1) The bootloader page covers backing up your current ROM
2) Yes you can copy it to SD/MMC (this is safer than using cradle anyway..) this is covered on XDArit page
3) Unless you are experiencing problems with your current radio stack most people will advise against upgrading it.. to upgrade your OS you only need the CE Rom. These can be made at Yorch's kitchen: http://kitchen.romanweb.com/kitchen/index.php then use XDArit/Osimage to copy it to your SD card.

Don't be too quick to jump on the poor guy, he says he used to have a wizard but now has a hermes so he's more than welcome here.
Try this:

Yeah, between Mr Vanx's guide and the Hermes WIKI you'll find pretty much everything you need to get you up and running, oh and I strongly suggest you use the MicroSD card method of flashing your OS and Radio.

Can you tell me more about this method (how to do it) and what advantages if offers over conventional flashing? Cheers.
Thanxs guys!
Trust me I will do my homework before I flash the rom, I already learned my lesson with the wizard!

Find it here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
If you read the massively long "Bricked Thread" (link in my Sig) I would guess that 99.99999% of those people bricked their phones using the USB method.
What people fail to realize is that their USB connection could be pretty flakey without them knowing and the first time they see evidence of this is when their phone gets bricked, especially when flashing the Radio as this is a sure way to fubar the phone! HardSPL may make it possible to recover but why not avoid that inconvenience in the first place.
The phone has to maintain a USB connection while flashing and this can be broken for a split second for a multiplicity of reasons.
I know of only one person who bricked their phone flashing via the MicroSD method and this is due to his file being corrupt. To avoid this always check your card for errors prior to rule this out. (Right-click on the card icon in My Computer and select Properties->Tools->Error-Checking... tick both options, OK.
I personally bricked my phone 4 times flashing via USB. No problems via MicroSD and 70+ flashes.

[Q] Help:Flashing android completely (without SD card)

Help: Is it possible to flash android OS without use of an SD Card? SD slot isnt working in my kaiser due to flex problem..reading through the help guide..seems impossible to proceed with the NAND due to use of SD card..thanks
I haven't seen anyone do that yet, but I'm sure something could be worked out. The problem is if you were to get "androidinstall.tar" directly on the NAND, there would be almost no room left for the install to take place.
not possible yet,
Read ALL of this for starters...

Do exactly as everything says, in the order given, and you should be able to do it on your own.

It's nice that you are trying to be helpful but please at least READ the message before making a post. The op indicated he could not do a normal install because his SD slot is broken therefore pointing him to the tutorial that requires using a sd slot makes no sense.
You can't do it, i already answer to this question in another thread!
Search button is your friend.
Thanks for the replies and for the one who defended..am no starter for flashing roms though..and i know how to search..was just asking if its possible..felt sorry for my poor old kaisier..
My apologies

I apologize for my work computer being stupid. I was replying to another thread and it posted it here. Was wondering where it went and now I know...lol.
Work computers running XP and IE7 no less, lots of page refresh issues.

I have a doubt about installs HTC

Hello everyone, first, my name is Christian and it's my firts topic.
I'm mexican and my english is so far so good.
Well, my confusion is about intallations of ROMS, I know that I have to RECOVERY to install the ROMS, so, I have searched in this forum and I found some ROMS that it haven't the folders system or meta ..
So, my question is: ¿How can I install these Roms in my HTC Touch Pro 2? or ¿How many forms to install Roms exists?
I forgot, my laptop has not recognized my htc, so, my method is through my sdcard.
Regards from Mexico !
OK, so I don't know what phone you have...
But to flash any WinMo ROM, you have to do hSPL first. That's "HardSPL" and will essentially void any warranty you have on the device.
In addition to that, it could potentially cause serious issues - so be careful. I directed you to the GSM thread, if you have CDMA you need to use a different one, here.
You also made some vague references to SD cards, so perhaps you mean Android? In which case this in the wrong section my friend.

First start in the right place. This forum is is for a completely different device where we likely have no experience.
Then search for the correct guide there or Google, read it several times before attempting anything again.
Remember that many people were in your position, starting from scratch with no prior experience. If you need to open a new thread to clarify things you don't understand that's ok. But there's not much point in other people copy pasting steps that are already laid out in a guide....
