sx-66 bad or blown speaker? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

finally got an sx66!!....man it is a great little device...!!
but.....
...i believe i may have recieved my sx66 with a blown speaker(bought it on ebay ).....and am trying to figure it out....
i will describe it best as i can....
hmmm.... if i listen to music(volume half way or higher)on the sx66 its speaker will distort and sound like a blown speaker....and still won't play at the volume of the sx56..
the bummer is i do not have any devices in a store to test this theory(they are all backordered)....and if i have to take it into siemens for repair that will cost $$$.....so i want to be sure ..... ...i don't mind, i just want to get this sweet little device working correctly....also after speaking to Siemens tech support, they told me that the repair location is in houston. I live in houston, so that is cool.
phone calls sound ok....but the volume is very low....so that would work ok even with a blown speaker.....,yes?
..... any input you may have will be helpful......
also if i attempt to use the speakerphone past half way on its volume it distorts VERY badly....you almost cant understand the other person.
also...there is a .wav of a dog barking in /My Documents...if i play that at half volume or louder it distorts it.....more crackling than dog barking......
all of this was duplicated on my sx56 to test......and all work just fine.....
for poops and giggles i attempted a hard reset....no dice....
headphones sound nice....so i believe it is with the speaker....i have read several posts about bluetooth issues and such, but nothing pertaining to the speaker.....i understand that the speaker is not going to sound like a 1000 watt sound system, but it should work better than it does...ya know?
i am hoping that they would not put such a lousy speaker in there....even the default cingular ringtone is awful because of the distortion....i mean DISTORTED BAD!!....if there is a bad speaker does anybody know of a replacment?.....or fix?....other than turning it down....if i turn it down to where it does not distort, then you ca barely hear it....it is like half the volume of the sx56 with VERY low quality sound....
thanks thanks and thanks thanks again for your help to a fellow 66er....ROCK!!! and yes....this is a sweet sweet device.....after using a sx56 for 2.5 years....yep...i love this addition to the family.....just this damn speaker thing is making me bug....

Sounds to me like your SX66 really does have a blown speaker. My unit doesn't sound at all like you describe. The speaker isn't the loudest in the world, but it doesn't distort like that either.
(sorry)
I will be curious to know how you are able to get it repaired. Siemens probably isn't going to honor the warranty, because it was purchased second hand.

thats what i figured and found out from siemens....they will repair it, but it is on me...
good news is that the ebayer i bought it from responded to me and told that i could return the 66....
but i also did discover that the repair location is only like 20-30 min from me!.....is that not cool??....
so it looks like i am going to get it replaced......rock!...
ill let you know more as it happens.....
thanks.....for your help in comfirming my hypothesis about the blown speaker....
bummer!!....now i have to wait longer to get to know it....oh well, at least i have my faithful sx56.....the sx56 is such a good quality device.....i hope the sx66 can live up to it.....
thanks again....

Sx66 Phone Speaker and Microphone not worling

I have the Siemens Sx66. When I try to use the phone the microphone and speaker do not work.
I can make or answer phone calls, but can not hear the caller nor can they hear me.
The volume controls are set all the way up.
I am using
ROM 1.40.00.WWE Date 3.10.05
Radio 1.15.00
Protocol V 1337.45
EXT ROM V 1.33.110 WWE
Carrier: Cingular Wireless.
I have done a soft and hard reset as well as loaded the latest cooked ROM and EXT Rom from the SX66 (Blue Angel) Standardization Project (Chris Daly)
Any advice out there... or should I just contact Cingular and get the phone replaced?
Steve
I've tried this and it worked for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...rt=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=dspen
use the one that's called dsp_en
the other one is in French
Installation Instructions for dsp_en.cab
do you have installation instructions for :
dsp_en.cab
MMS_2.0.0.16_BA_1123.CAB
I don't feel comfortable just doing this on the fly.
Steve
use this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=2153
copy the exe to your SD card if you have one
then just double click it - that's how I did it
ok, I like this lill program, however it does not help me. I had turned my speaker on, while on a call, and it got really loud, crackled a bit and then nothing.... When trying to use the phone, I can not hear anything, unless I put it on speaker, then I can somewhat hear the caller...
Any advice on how I can get this fixed??
take your phone apart and reseat all the connections..
nope, that wasnt it... I bought a spaker and just replaced that.. good as new!
did you puncture the old speaker or get it wet by chance?
nope, I was talking to T-mobile and put it on speaker phone,, it got real loud, crackled a bit and then nothing.. I took it off speaker, and couldnt hear anything... To use the phone, I needed to use the speaker,, and then I could barley hear anyone.
I used my back up till I bought the part to fix it.
Any really good place to buy a replacement speaker for the SX66? The speaker cover held in by 3 little plastic tabs has had one of its tabs pushed in, damaging my speaker to wher it crackles and pops at all times (not just when using speakerphone)

Updated (09/05) POLLING - High Pitch Noise O2 Orbit

I have noticed that my orbit is giving off a very high pitched noise, which is almost undetectable, does everyones buzz, squeal, it is hard to explain but is an electrical noise of some sort which is only present when the screen is on?
Any suggestions, or is this a "feature"
Hi StewD,
I get a kind of ticking from my speaker and as you say maybe a 10khz sine from my screen.
I believe that this is simply an electrical effect common to all such lcds but I can only chop wood so maybe someone with a greater range of abilities can tell me I am right.
I know what you mean, I have an Archos and many other "toys" with screens, PSP, NDS, Car DVD player that have an LCD screens which are silent?
while my o2 xda is ok, a friend of mine had a similar problem (the sound would only appear when the screen is on), got it changed by o2, new one is dead silent.
Do you have any more details, that is sounding the same as mine!....Can you get him to contact me....please.
High piched noise on Orbit
If your describing a high piched sound worse when you hold the styus on nthe screen I have the same. Just got my old XDA IIi out of its dust sheet and it has the same but higher!!
That's it exactly
Is everyone affected by this "feature"
Please reply with yes or no below.
I have an Orbit, and don't have any high pitch sound.
Tried with and without stylus.....silent.
Thanks Patrick, that's great, I'm hoping your in the majority to be honest as the sound when I'm on a call is almost unbearable, what I'm hoping is that I will get a couple of dozen or so silent orbits, from other forum members which I can then go to O2 with and get it replaced....
I believe it is a characteristic of the screens. Is it possible that some peoples high frequency hearing is not quite as sensitive as that of others?

I know what you mean, but when I'm on a call it is intolerable, well almost. But like all these things unless you get 2 or 3 together at the same time and try them I'll never know?
Pity this forum doesn't require location when registering, not many people have updated their profile with where they are?.
Well that question received a lot of interest?! Is there anyone out there??
Hi StewD,
I am out here, off work while mrs. is in Austria.
Just a thought, but do you have very large pointy ears?
I usually just press the power button when I offer the phone to my ear, screen off.
LOL no standard human ears I'm afraid.
That is what I'm doing at the mo. but if there are silent orbits does that mean there is something wrong with mine??
I just thought there would have been a lot more in the way of replies to this thread...?
Thanks for your reply
I had the same "feature" in my Orbit. It was fixed by O2 Germany. So far (two days after coming back from service) my device is silent.
Cool, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear, did they explain what was done, New screen, new firmware, or is it a new handset?
I can hear a high pitched whine from the LCD when I hold my phone to my ear, but it doesn't bother me too badly. I suspect it may be too high pitched for some people to hear (like the noise some TVs make or some dodgy fluorescent lights make).
However, thanks for the tip about hitting the 'off' button once the call is in progress!
[QUOTEHowever, thanks for the tip about hitting the 'off' button once the call is in progress!
[/QUOTE]
It took me about 18 months to figure that out!
Well...contacted O2 today, and after the usual 15 minute wait for an operator person, explained the problem and she agreed that the handset was faulty and I should send it back for replacement.
Now I'm going to be without "My Precious" for at least 3-5 working days........Arghh.. I was just getting so attached to it as well....?
I will post more news when my replacement arrives........thanks for your replies.......

is everyone satisfied tp2's earpiece sound quality?

i have tmobile tp2
and i dislike its earpiece sound quality
my previous universal was much better
this is on stock radio 3.45, and on newest 4.49.25.17
my tilt2 sounded muffled when I got it. I tried different hacks but none of them worked. I ended up getting it exchanged. my new tilt2 is on the way.
I graduated from the Fuze to the Tilt 2. At first, I didnt think it would be that much of a different experience but, after I played with the Tilt 2, I must say that its definitely worth the upgrade. The bigger screen makes a huge difference, tho its the same processor speed as the Fuze, the Tilt 2 OS feels much more snappier. The build feels much better in the hands than the Fuze. PIE 6.5 is kinda slow and not as eye candy but feels much solid than opera and PIE 6.1. The speakerphone, hands down is the best I've experienced in years on a PDA/mobile phone. I thought it could've used a little more treble, but in comparison with the Fuze, the Tilt 2 speakerphone makes the Fuze's sound completely inferior. With today's technology, there's no reason why HTC shouldn't have included decent speakerphones in their handsets! The camera, I expect it to be good in a well lit area. I mostly tested the camera in low lit areas to see how well it performed, and from my test, just a slight improvement over the Fuze. The Gps works excellent. It was able to locate satellites within 20 secs in an open area. Overall, a well made phone, Finally!!

Im in the same boat, my new one arrives tomorrow, crossing fingers the sound is better...I had the muffled sound quality too especially with lower voices...speaking females (at least most of them) there was not an issue, but when I spoke to men on the phone it sounded low and muffled.
very sad to realize but it seems a hardware issue
..................
after some search ive found such thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550784
i will try different audiopara and post the result
some people in that thread told it helped
the only thing i cant understand, why the muffleness stays after reflashing? i tried different roms from nrgz28 and official russian. the radio also have been reflashed to the newest
I have complained about mine to the wife quiet a few times when talking with her, tilt 2 to tilt 2. I find myself moving the phone around to hear better, but it just doesnt get better. Im gonna try her phone and see if there is a difference.
I don´t have any issues with my sound quality
it´s just as good as my beloved Uni
For my original Tilt, at full volume, I can hear the caller standing 2-3 feet away from the phone. For my Tilt 2 I couldnt. Even when the phone is pressed against my ear, the sound is muffled with no mid to high frequency. It sounds like a midrange speaker with low pass xover set at 750hz. I wish I still have my SA3055
tried several audiopara files and no success
thinking its hardware
my thoughts are that earpiece hole is not enough opened, seems like a piece of plastic is resonating when low voice is coming out
its just my thoughts, perhaps its simply faulty earpiece speaker
now i thinking of disassembling it or not. i wouldnt do that, but i bought it on ebay so no warranty
Same problem here.
Went to at&t store and exchanged it,... twice. Same story. Tried flashing different ROMs and Radios - problem persists. Will try to exchange it one more time. If issue is still there, will return the phone - I have till Nov 17th.
BTW the sound is muffled not only with earpiece - speaker and headset have similar sound issue.
Other than that phone(PocketPC) is great. But sound quality is crucial, for me at least.

Agree with this..i did flash a customer rom and the reg and windows folder didn't have the audiopara files...so not sure what it used, it seemed like the sound was a bit better than stock.
But to your point, I wonder if its possible to enable a equalizer software for the earpiece and to see if we can add some mid-range or whether the hardware just couldn't support that...but agree the muffled sound is due to lack of midrange/treble.
finally i think its hw
and im wondering why this or similar thread are not sticky, cause there are a lot of complaints

I'm 100% satisfied with mine - the amazing in-call clarity is one of the phone's best features. Then again, I don't have the T-Mobile version; it seems like everyone who does has problems with the earpiece.
strange situation, all complaints from tmo or att branded tp2s
does anybody have such problems with unlocked/unbranded ?
seems problem resolved for me after flashing radio from tmobile 4.49.25.05

Weird NOISE/crackling during call - DESIRE HD - HELPPP

Hello , i recently bought the Desire HD, and havent been experiencing any problems with it except of one quite annoying.
When im in a call, either outgoing or incoming, the speaker makes a weird crackling noise.
This happens always, and happens on both the phones speaker, and loud speaker (depending on which is selected during call), and headphones(when connected). Ive searched the forum, and some people have been experiencing a sort of problem, but not on the same device.
any help is very much appreciated thank you
I can verify that I'm experiencing the same with my Desire HD.
We discussed this issue already in the german "Android-Hilfe"-Forum. This buzzing, crackling noise seems to affect a small number of desire HD's. Mine was affected too. All the devices have been changed on warranty with no costs for the customer in germany. No matter from which provider they were bought.
Edit: BTW: Wrong Forum, I think. Could an Admin move this thread please?
Thanks for the quick replies guys, appreciate it
Hi All,
My Desire HD has started doing this today too! Really gutted. What has HTC UK support been like this on it? Replacement or repair, and how quick? I dont want to be without a phone long! Is this a widely recognised problem, apart from this thread I dont see much on it. Im wondering if the buzz comes from a loose LED flash cover vibrating caused by the speaker?
Thanks very much
I have the same and I thought it is the proximity sensor opening and closing.
Are you guys sending it back for replacement or are you going to live with it?
i have the same problem it sounds like the earpice is short circuiting for 1/10 second
i dont know is it a general problem or only limitted to our handsets
and if we update the radio version is it going to disappear or not
any help is appreciated

I sent 2 support cases to HTC at the same time. The one was for tjis issue and the other for something else. The other one was answered next day but for that one, not a word. Does this tell you something?

I say that: I contacted HTC support in regards to this but haven't received a reply. But, I have received replys for other cases. And this doesn't sound good.
i have the same issue
Issue with noise
I recently replaced my DHD due to a similar issue. I found if my hand palm was making contact at all with the SIM.SD Card cover, ie the antenna I would get an extremely high pitch feedback sound. Also if phone was on charge the crackle sound was audible.
Orange were great and replaced the original handset straight away at no cost but the replacement also appears to have the same issue. For the moment I'm considering contacting HTC direct but i'm not sure as otherwise I love the phone, and truly believe it is the best on the market.
I think the issue might be resolved if i get a outer protective cover so I'm going to try that first, and not use the device while on charge.
Would be good to know if others have had these experiences.

Whatever you decide, contact HTC so that they know and work on the problem. As I said, I contacted them but never received a reply which means that they are aware and have no solution.

That must be a different issue. I hear that noise via BT headset when I don't even touch the phone. I believe it's due to the sound frequency change during a call and the low quality speaker cannot handle. It's like using a high wattage amplifier on a low quality speaker and expect to hear deep bass sound. I guess you all know the result of such sound.
I'm also experiencing this problem. Sent the phone in and got it back but the problem is still there. They changed the motherboard and the loudspeaker but that obviously didn't fix the problem. So now I probably have to send it back again.
i just hope this problem can be fixed with software..
hi all,
in my case occasionally during call's even whit sound volume low a ear the person talking with " extremely high pitch feedback sound".
It's a very good phone but that problem is starting to annoying me.
i allready send a email to htc portugal and their response was to send the equipment to the repair center
in you opion what should i do? send to repair?
Thanks
Have you tried enabling the SRS improvement? It can be done in the music player. It made the crackling sound during calls in my device disappear...

I will try this and post back...
What I'm experiencing, when I'm on hold with my service provider (Vodafone AU) I can hear the normal on hold music then at random intervals just for a half a second or so the music cuts and there's an annoying crackle noise. Sometimes there is no noise for a while then there can all of a sudden there can that crackle noise every few seconds. Like another person has said for me if I change to loudspeaker it still does the crackle noises and turning the volume down doesn't help. I've tried taking my hand off the phone but it still happens. I have noticed a few times the reception bars icon, drop a bar or gain a bar when this noise happens so maybe there's a link?!? By the way I'm running LeeDroid 1.4.1 (wich is based on HTC's 1.72.405.3 ROM). Also I'm running the Jan 17th Radio version: 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M.
Right. This could well sound daft but try it anyway! Someone on another forum said it worked for him (her?) and it worked for me with a Nokia E71. The speaker was 'crackling' so I did the usual googling. The answer was, for me, to suck really hard on the speaker a couple of times. Basically the diaphragm gets put out of place and the 'sucking' gets it back.
Try it and see! Though it won't fix the 'feedback-type' noises I'd guess but I find most of those are specific to a particular call. Either call back, or get them to call you back, and all is well.

Motorola Elite Sliver bluetooth earpiece

Has anybody else tried the Motorola Elite Sliver bluetooth earpiece? I have tried two of the units with my AT&T S3 and with both the people I am talking to have complained about the low quality of the sound. It's loud enough. They say the sound is "fuzzy" and sounds like I am talking in a barrel. Also, there is a lot of background noise. I installed the MotoSpeak app and tried different background noise cancellation settings but that didn't help. I had a friend of mine try it with his iPhone 5 and the problem persisted. It is without a doubt the most comfortable earpiece I have ever worn. But, that's of little value if the other person can not understand me.
Thanks

I use it with my S3 and I like it. I haven't haany complaints about MINE, but two of my friends got them because I raved about it and they both sounded fuzzy. one of them returned it and the other still uses his. I love how minimal it is, but I sometimes miss my moto h710 I had. that thing was amazing and crystal clear.

I think I can help you with this since i was exhausted with this prob before.
You can connect the earpiece normally, yet before turn on bluetooth on your S3 do a few step below:
Access Motorola Elite sliver menu and turn off Wide band audio (option 5)
Then turn it off
Turn it on and access menu again. Then turn on Wide band audio
Turn on S3 bluetooth and let it connect to Motorola Sliver as normal
--> You are good to go, people now can hear you loud and crystal clear :victory:
Hope you also enjoy the earpiece as I do after fixing this prob
Thanks windbytrick. People tell me that really made an improvement. Is this procedure required every time I take the earpiece out of the charger? Or, every time I turn the earpiece off? Thanks again.

this should be done everytime you take the earpiece out of the charger, i'd recommend you do it once in the morning and keep the connection between SLIVER and S3, then you dont have to worry for the rest of the day. It wont be a prob for both S3 and Sliver battery.
Thanks winbytrick.
I had it, return and bought Jabra WAVE+. Way better and more comfortable.
Tengtengvn,
Does the Jabra Wave+ have the same capabilities as the Sliver with the MotoSpeak app?
Android has that capability built in. Why do you need an app to do that?
