4smartphone.net - PUSHEMAIL - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Dear friends please help.
I signed up for trial account (pro) at 4smartphone.net to get benefit of pushemail. Everythings was fine during the process and I downloaded setupfile at my jasjar (through sms) but afer running the file it always gives me following sms error
"system notification" - change of device settings is unsuccessful/
I am sure many of us are using this facility very nicely and I must be making some mistake.
Can any one help me or define the whole (step by step) process to setup pushemail from 4smartphone.net like.,
setting email accounts to server settings.
It would be once for all help for pushmail issues.
Regards

You have to configure exchange in activesync in the pda or on the pc .
in your profile on the 4smartphone webpage, go to "Mobile Setup:Review and Upload your mobile setup"

Done it. It works!
I've set up mail forwarding from my belfast-biker.com domain to the 4smartphone one, it sync beautifully, BUT...!
It syncs lovely between OWA (I think that's it, the web-based Outlook thing) and the Exec, but there seems no link with my normal Outlook, and I'm sure there should be.
Also, when I receive emails, they go to my device, and my OWN, but not to my normal Outlook anymore, I'm sure it's coz I've failed to establish a link I should have done.... any help?

I think you want to configure your outlook on the destop :
I give you a copy of the mail I receive from technical support :
Thank you for using 4Smartphone.
Here is a step by step we found to be good:
http://www.petri.co.il/configure_outlook_2003_to_use_rpc_over_http.htm
Information specific to 4SmartPhone:
Profile Name = Your login ([email protected])
You need to check [x] Use Cached Exchange Mode
Microsoft Exchange Server = SNSHBEA107.4smartphone.snx (Instead of zeus)
User Name = your mail again(Instead of daniel)
RPCProxyServer = secure.4smartphone.net (instead of zeus.dpetri.local)
You need to check [x] Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL
RPCProxyPrincipalName = msstd:secure.4smartphone.net
Your user login will be : the mail for your account
And your password is the one you provided at account creation
Please do not hesitate to contact us again if necessary.
Best regards,

Also, you must have outlook 2003 on your desktop - I initially made the mistake of thinking outlook XP was OK - it is not - 4smartphone offer outlook 2003 for free on their site
(PS sorry if this is a "granny to suck eggs" type post, but I made the mistake and know of at least one other who did the same thing.

Exchange SP2 setup
Does anyone have any info on what is required from Exchange to set this push mail up. i.e. HTTPS access from web, etc
Also i am on vodafone so what would my device address be? i.e. sms://<number> etc? do you need this? :?
Thanks.

Hi deluxe,
Can you tell us what version of Exchange you are pointing to and are you trying to configure the sync from the device or via the ActiveSync desktop wizard?
I assume you have a AKU2 ROM installed on your device.
Setting up push email is very easy to do provided you have a box running OWA with SP2 applied (ideally SP2 on all boxes but you can get away with it just on OWA and the server with your mailbox). The default settings on the Exchange end should be enough to get you going.
You mention you’re being prompted for the device address, which implies that Exchange is falling back to using “Always Up To Date” (i.e. sending an SMS to your device each time you get a new mail). This is almost definitely not what you want to use. Are you sure you have SP2 installed?
Anyway, I am rambling so here is a simple check list.
Exchange SP2 on the OWA/Mailbox servers.
AKU2 Windows Mobile 5 Rom on the device.
ActiveSync 4.1 on the PC if you use the PC wizard.
Synchronisation with Exchange working ‘before’ trying to configure Direct Push from the scheduling options.
Access to your OWA (or ISA etc.) server via whatever means you want to run Direct Push over (i.e. WiFi, GPRS Internet APN, Private APN etc.)
Do we have any idea on the impact on the Data bill regarding the Push ? (Of course it will depend on HOW MUCH spam you receive ) but just having the PUSH always on, will this effect our data bill ?
Cheers
I am running exchange 2003 sp2, but currently do not have access outside the company .i.e. i have not nated it out. i have the website running internally so i presume i just need to nat the server to a public address.
I was trying to use activesync to set this up, and i am running the new rom.

In our simple tests your looking at about 10-12MB + mail volume on a stock config. You can make that a fair bit less by tweaking the heartbeat to a more reasonable 20-40 mins (knocks a few MB off, about 8MB + mail volume @ 40 min heartbeat).

As I assume you don't have a private APN then without making the server public (via a firewall, ISA server or as a last result simple NAT) is the only way your going to make this work.
If you use SSL make sure the cert matches the public (internet) address of your server and that you have an approperate root cert installed on your device if you use an internal CA. You can use it over HTTP just fine but it's not secure in the least and I would not suggest it unless you had a private APN.
When you have the server exposed just get manual syncing over the air going from the device, then we can tackle DirectPush.

From the speed of receive the e-mail in the TS2 demo's I've seen, would you agree that Exchange is pushing the email before the filters can scrub it? I think this would be an area of huge improvement if MS would conduct the push later down in the process of receiving/delivering the e-mail.

jmcl: REAL MAIL is a service provided by vodafone supporting imap or pop3 mail, in the case you haven't a corporate exchange server or lotus. If you have some corporative mail server, with an exchange server, vodafone doesn't add value. In this case should be nice to have a mail address where you can receive sms, in other words, imagine a mail address that is connected directly to your sms inbox. There are other applications -for example verichat- that use this sms/mail address in order to send your device messages when you are not online.
does anyone have the setting for o2 in the uk?

its not push mail unless its "As Items arrive", its just normal activesync checking,
also need the direct push enabled for it.
it does rock tho i have mine set to "As Items arrive" for peak and manual for offpeak, as im on the machine i use the account on in the evenings, so its basically now set for push mail in my working hours and manual when im at home,

I believe this is due to the heartbeat, mine seems to do the same thing....
thanks Carnivor,
but Im still confused, Direct push is enabled on my device (its yellow) and "as item arrives" is checked also, yet it keeps on syncying every 10 or 15 minutes!!
I thought it will only sync whenever I really have mail, if it keeps syncing every 10 minutes I will probably not use it because of the extreme high cost of GPRS
Sorry for the novice question but what is heartbeat!!

a heartbeat is something the exchange server sends to your phone to make sure its still connected and everything is ok, what you are seeing is not a sync its just letting you know when the last heartbeat saw recieved. I think if anyone knows different please let me know
ahh i see what you mean now, im sure i saw on the 4smartphone site that its 5mb/month data tarriff required, one could assume this is 24/7 heartbeat monitoring without the actual cost of transfering emails, that will be added ontop of the initial 5mb. its a theory

DOMAIN section for e-mail setup

Do you guys remember when there used to be a Domain box in the e-mail setup options when inputting pop/imap server settings? I notice that with WM6, its gone! The reason i ask this is cuz there is a program that is called Pocket Hotmail which lets you check your hotmail/msn inbox without using windows live! But for MSN e-mails, it requires a name in the Domain field.
Is there any way to get the domain field back? The reason i ask this is cuz i HATE windows live! I have 2 msn accounts and 1 hotmail account, and the only way for me to check them thru live is to log out then log onto another one, then log out again, and log onto the other one. Any ideas anyone? If windows live let us put multiple e-mails to be checked at a time that would be great... but i dont see them doing that in the near future
For clarification, look at step 7 on this link:
http://www1.umn.edu/adcs/guides/email/winmobile5/
you will notice that there is a Domain field. Sum1 please help
Or if anyone knows how to attatch a msn/hotmail account with the standard inbox program that would be great help too!
Typically, if you can't put in a domain name in it's own box, you just prepend it to the front of the username field.
User: rob
Pass: mypass
Domain: mydomain
becomes
user: mydomain\rbruce
pass: mypass
Hope that helps.
Rob
I agree with Rob, that solution would probably work. Usually when you require a domain, putting it in front of the username solves the issue.
I've given up hope on pocket hotmail ... it actually doesnt work ...
Does anyone know of a way i can check msn/hotmail e-mail with the inbox program without using windows live? This would be a HUGE help... but til this very day, i haven't found a way to do it.
In WM6, just go into the messaging list and click "New E-Mail Account", it'll setup the email for you.

in WM6, if you click New E-mail account and enter a msn/hotmail address, it will redirect you to set it up with Windows Live!
I want it to be in just a standard inbox.
It is a standard inbox? Live is just the new name for it.
If you disable the today plugin, you'll just have the Live inbox. Can't you just add and then add again?
In some aspect it is just co-linked with the standard inbox. Hence why sounds cannot be associated when you receive new email messages. Also, you CANNOT add more than one e-mail account at a time. So its a pain having to log in and out of all three of my msn/hotmail accounts.
And currently, i am having a problem with syncing e-mails "as they arrive". If i go to the settings and set it so it notifies me "as they arrive" , the settings don't stick. I officially HATE windows live!

Best solution for viewing Outlook Web Access on Hermes?

I can't connect through PIE. Thanks,
You're going to have to give more info if you want any help. Config for OWA is very straightforward - just set up the http address of your OWA server in Activesync (option to sync with exchange server instead of locally) work through the options and then it activesync will work over the wireless data. That said, please make sure you read the various info sources for configuration before you ask a question thats answered elsewhere and get jumped on
If you have problems either risk it and post or PM me
lol, what possible reason would you have for accessing OWA on your Hermes...you should put it into ActiveSync on your phone for live push mail and auto updating contacts/calender etc. Unless you have a reason to NOT do this, i'm not understanding why you would want to use PIE to access OWA.

I use OWA to access my work email system, occasionally.
Hermes Outlook actually syncs up with my own Exch2007 server.

That's normal, the number of ****'s doesn't reflect the length of your password. You should re-check your login details and connection settings though....
Could it be some security setting my company has placed on the server?
To set up pocket outlook to sync with your exchange server you need the option on the exchange server to connect via SSL.
You also need to get a copy of the SSL certificate and install it to your device.
If you can already access your email through your outlook inbox on your PC through SSL (Not OWA, look through the accounts settings in outlook) you are halfway there. Just get the certificate and install it to your device.
Absolutely could be an issue on your company's server. Where I work they explicitily prevent access via the server. I spoke directly to the sys admins of the server and they said OH we do that for security purposes as we only support Blackberries... If you want your email get a blackberry... Sorry not gonna happen. So I too use OWA all the time..

hotmail account problems [SOLVED]

try this, delete your hotmail account from your htc and then re add it. make sure you use these settings when prompted:
POP server: pop3.live.com
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Authentication required? Yes
might fix it...
not even there
There is no hot mail account there, it disapeared, Here is exectly what happens:
1. Click new account
2. insert username [email protected]
3. insert passwords
4. click next
usually here it downloads the setting for the account and the it asks if you want to add live account shortcuts to today screen, then downloads folders and then the account shows up in your list of accounts.
What happens instead is it opens opera and tries to log into what looks to be a live webpage, however the login details are simply a jpeg, it is really odd like some virus or something. I had this working before ok, i am not sure what has changed.
are you using windows mobile 6.5?
because if you are, in my experiences, the mail setup tool forces you to go to a website to check your mail. I havent used a 6.5 ROM that lets you use the inbuilt app.

good to know
Hi, its good to know I am not the only one out there with this problem, i thought i was going mad, I amusing the latest stock romm with spb mobile shell 3, dont think that has anything to do with it though as I had it setup ok at one point. My NTL (virgin) pop works ok.
the reason?
This might be happening as winmo will only let you setup one hotmail account, someone on my phone the old account might be there even though it is not showing up as an account, therefore when you go thorugh the wizard it automatically forwards you to live webmail, this would make sense, does anyone know how to find out in the registry what acounts are setup?
go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476603&highlight=hotmail
i had this problem before as well but just searching on the various forums you can pretty much find the answer for anything.
all you need to do is create a new email account (without using the automatic settings for hotmail) type in the pop3 settings and your done.
Updated
I had a similar problem when I first set-up the phone. I originally downloaded a fixed version from this site. More recently I downloaded the update available from the MS website.
Always downloads to the phone now.
Running version 10.6.0046.0800
good man
Good job that man, that worked, you simply put in a rubbish user and pass and click next, unclick automatically look for setting from the internet and then it allows you to set it up manually.
thanks for that.

hotmail on my htc touch pro 2

hi,
i want to use my hotmail account in the mailbox on my touch pro 2.
but when i want to enter my hotmail account, the phone opens opera and goes to windows live website.
i don't want that.
i tried to enter hotnail, instead of hotmail.
then enter the details, and change it to hotMail. com.
that doesn't work.
entering it differently doesn't work either.
even when i sync with my outlook it doesn't copy my hotmail account.
i'm sick of it.... i would like to decide which accounts i can use on my phone.
so could anyone tell me how i can get my hotmail account on my htc touch pro 2.
You have to download windows live fot it to work. When you enter the hotmail adres it will indeed fo online to fetch the cab. After installing the cab your mail will show up in the mail tab of HTC sense.
You might already have windows live in your phone... check that first... But like sdemon said you need to log into windows live and then as you are doing your initial sign in it will give you the option of having the mail sync to your phone.
i don't get it....
i go to windows live, and i sign in with my hotmail account.
but nowhere is the option to download a .cab or to sync.
maybe it's just me, but i just can't seem to find it....
in the meantime i'll try if my windows live version is up to date, and if my rom is up to date....
You dont have to get windows live to set up an hotmail account.
go to your messages to set up a new e-mail accunt, chose for internet e-mail, fill in your e-mail address, in stead of .COM fill in .coN at the end like: [email protected]
incoming mail server: [email protected]:995
outgoing ( smtp server ) smtp.live.com:25
Check the outgoing server requires authentication and use the same name and password for sending e-mail
Thats got to work.

ditto... has been like that for years
wel... it took me a little while and quit a few fora's.....
first i updated the phone with the latest ROM from the htc website.
the phone has changed a lot, i've got sense now (no weird working TF3D).
the new software is great (excepts for some issues with the htc sms messages program).
next i tried all the same, but it didn't work.
then i found out how to do it (thanks to this topic).
you open windows live, and you log in with your hotmail account.
in the middle screen you see several options (like "log on messenger") and the last one says "sync account".
check that one, and the phone does almost everything.
it kinda works... except for 1 thing.... i can't enter a second hotmail account.
the option of filling in hotmail.coN instead of .coM doesn't work.
the email you have to fill in is the email the phone uses to register with the server.
if you change .coN back to .coM, the phone recognizes the fact that it's a hotmail account and redirects you straight to the windos live website.
other option people discuss in this topic don't seem to work.
at least not with the latest ROM.
No Hotmail, no Roadrunner, nothing works anymore
I followed all the instructions given here but still, I can't set up my Hotmail account. I logged in to my account but there was no option to "sync account" like supervinnie40 mentioned.
Moreover, in addition to not being able to set up a Hotmail account anymore (happened overnight) I've not been able to send any e-mails using RoadRunner from TWC, NY.
As far as the Hotmail account goes, it's very frustrating because it was the only one I was able to use. Why is it working one day and gone the day after?
Hard reset doesn't solve the problem either.
Expensive phone, some features not working. Frustrating.
HTC Touch Pro 2 (Sprint). I don't like it so much anymore.
