"Permanent Save" hack? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I am just wishing and hoping that there's a way of using the "Permanent Save" option in Settings for data other than Contacts, Appointments, Tasks, and Connection Sharing, the four options normally given.
My reason for this is that I use encryption software which has the added purpose of deleting the Contacts, Appointments, Tasks, and Connection Sharing - everything on the PDA, in fact, but the permanent storage area! - if a snoop or thief enters the incorrect password a user-defined number of times. Therefore, I don't want these databases permanently stored *unencrypted* anywhere in my PDA. I would rather use the permanent storage for data I do not need to encrypt.
Thanks for any tips you can give me.

hmm... still nothing on using permanent save for something other than contacts and the usual suspects? Seems like it must be a registry-related dilemma, one that can be overcome.

[IDEA/REQ] Simple wallet app

I've used Sony Ericsson phones before I went over to WM-phones, and on the SE phones there is a standard app that is very simple, but genious.
It is a very simple app to remember your pin numbers and/or passwords.
It works kind of like this:
At first use, you select a password and a control word. You enter the password every time you enter the program and it then displays your control word so you can check that you wrote the right password.
Whatever password you enter at program startup will get you inside, no error messages or anything. But entering the wrong passord will also display your control word wrong - whatever it might be. When inside all stored pins/passwords are displayed, but only if you write the correct password when entering they are correct. That way someone not knowing the password will not be able to tell if they actually guessed the password as the "pin numbers" show anyway, but with completely randomized numbers. So they are basically just waisting their time.
Not sure if I managed to explain so anyone can understand or if there is such an app already? I've tried dosens of wallet apps, but not succeded in finding one that is as simple and good as the one in SE phones.
I've been wanting something like this for a while. I can't use the last one I had (Flexwallet) since I had to hard reset and lost the registration number.
There are bunch of free apps to do this on your Windows Mobile device:

POS - Why does WM overwrite my newer XLS during sync?

Why the does it replace my newer excel spreadsheets during a sync? After I sync it, I would open the file from the pda, make changes and save it. But during the save, excel mobile prompts me that the file format is unsupported. If I save and sync it, it will get overwritten with the older file on my desktop.
I'm using Excel 2003 in Vistax64 and have FileFormatConverters.exe installed.
in windows mobile device center there is a setting for this situation which one to overwrite if changes happened. if you change documents a lot on the go, you should set the blueangel as priority device to overwrite the desktop documents. check the settings in "mobile device settings" -> "manage a partnership" and then set "replace items on desktop" then, whenever there is a conflict like that, the BA gets the priority.

Too risky for me. If I lose everything in my pda, which happens once in awhile, it will overwrite everything in my desktop with nothing. Theoretically, it should sync things, but I could have sworn it once erased contacts and appointments on my desktop.

I gave it a shot again and switched it to "replace items on desktop" and it deleted half of my templates such as memo.
normally, it should only make use of this option when a file was changed on the pc and the device. since it cannot "combine" the files or compare their content, it needs to know, which one to overwrite. it should not affect deleting.
the situation you described in your prior post is risky, like you said. my standard setting is "replace on the desktop" and i.e. when i hard reset my device and there is no pim data on it, it still does not delete everything in outlook because there is no conflict. it is still syncing and not a one way street, which is why in that case it should transfer new items to the device.
i hope, since you said before, it was risky, that you made backups of those files, or that you can at least restore an earlier version using volume shadow copies.
as i said before, activesync/wmdc is not perfect and behaves strangely sometimes. maybe there is no official solution for that problem. maybe you need to bypass it.
if, for instance, you know, that a file you have on the BA is newer than the server version, you could start a manual file transfer and not sync that file/folder, but overwrite it, either cradled, or using the sd card or a bluetooth share, a lan share, accessible with wi-fi or gprs with vpn, whatever data connection comes to mind.
or maybe, some other user reading this can come up with a good idea. i am sorry that my advice did not work but instead possibly harmed your pim data. i personally don't sync files and never had troubles with syncing in general. that option always worked for me.

Yes, I always have backups in my desktop and storage card.
I think the problem with "replace items on the device" is with Excel 2003 compatibility issues between the desktop and Excel Mobile. Not sure how to get around this but to constantly keep backups on my SD card before a sync.

[PRJ] XDA_Sync

Hello fellow XDA members,
Last week I flashed my favorite ROM to it's newest version again and once again I had to put some settings right and all. Now, this is nothing new and you can let the process be done for you with tools already availabe. However, I'm not pleased with the options given by the different apps to be set!
Synchronizing different data is one of the most important features on any smartphone at the moment in my opinion. Some you like to do manually, but lots of them you just let go on schedule. This is where my problem popped up. Quick searching didn't give any results, so I decided to start this tread. Example of a problem: you have to set every app to roaming or not and give them a refresh rate.
My idea/project I would like to start is making an app that has the following features:
setting up syncing schedules with the following options:
selecting days on which it syncs
timespan for synchronisation
refresh rate
roaming/no roaming
toggle list for assigning installed syncable programs fast and easy
assigning apps to different schedules
menu item for a list of schedules (with a subtext which programs follow and list of programs (with a subtext which schedule they follow)
Manila styled menus for known user interface
detection of different already syncing apps or syncable apps on the phone (adding them to the program list but not importing schedules since those would spam the list)
menu option to stop all syncing so everything is manual (useful when roaming but wanting to sync on demand)
import/export settings and automatic importing settings from the XDA_UC folder on install
making internet connection on sync and if it was off before turning it off after sync (don't know if some apps do this already, but then the turning off has to wait until the end of all synchronization)
option to show pop-up on sync fail with an option to retry in a given time or automatic retry time
I had some more features in mind but they fail to pop up right now.
What this solves:
schedules all crossing eachother which makes your phone connecting to and disconnecting from the internet all day (some have 3h option, some 4h)
unnessecary syncs, for example during your sleep
hopefully more options for selecting sync times (like with the FB-tab which can't go higher than 99)
one menu serving all the main apps on your phone
if importing settings on install works: no need to set everything up again, never!
There's only one big problem:
I'm not a developer and have no idea of any coding for WM devices at all. I do have some basic insight in structures and can help searching for entries and locations of different settings/manual sync triggers, but not much more than that. I'd like to see how this works during the project if there are others out there who like this app and a developer to take the big job!
Coding challenges I expect:
I think it has to set the apps assigned to a schedule to "manual" in the offical app/tab and has to trigger the manual synchronisation when schedule starts. If we really get into the core of other apps too: we could add the option "XDA_Sync schedule" to the drop down menus which pops up a schedule selector for the app. This way you could enable the automatic sync in the tab and the "roaming" item should be grayed out because that's fixed in the XDA_Sync schedule.
Locating all syncing.
Different devices (I have a Touch Pro2)
So: Good idea?
And: Any developer willing to take the challenge?
P.S. Not sure if I'm allowed to use the "XDA" part in the name, thread name could then be changed to "Cell_Sync" or something similar.

[Q] New Activate Device Manager message

This morning, my Captivate Glide starting giving me a message that I need to Update security settings to use Gmail. I click on OK and I get "Server m.google.com must be able to remotely control some security features on your device. Activating administrator will allow Email to perform following operations"
There's a long list but to give an example of the kinds of things, here's the first one:
"Erase all data
Erase the phone's data without warning, by performing a factory data reset"
Others include monitoring use and changing passwords for the device.
My email is not working on the Glide right now. Presumably because I won't activate the device administrator.
Just a note, I have my Gmail set up through Exchange. Have always done it that way for push but I have not changed anything or updated anything. I would assume this a google issue changing the way their server works BUT I also have it set up that way on my TF700 tablet and it's functioning normal. I also have my wife Android phone (motorola) set up with gmail through exchange and she is not getting this either.
What can I do to resolve this?

Need to find a way to edit cloud synced, secure documents

i could use some help here,
im trying to find a way to have a certain document editable on both my phone and my computer,
while keeping the changes made synced, and having that document password protected.
i have tried several solutions so far:
evernote - encryption is a paid feature in android
dropbox - here iv'e tried several things:
using favorites - could not get kingsoft office to edit the file after changes were made to it on the pc, ive seen it handle passowrd protection quite well with local files
using dropsync - for reasons unfathomable to me and as of yet unexplained (app developer was contacted about this as well, hes just as confused as i am), at unpredictable times, on unpredictable circumstances, when i sync folders with dropsync, some (not all) of the files, get erased locally, and then subsequently removed from dropbox, it doesnt always happen, but it makes this a very frustrating and unreliable solution
foldersync - wouldn't let me enter sync my dropbox account for some reason, brought up a login page with no response to any attempts on my side to input username/password
google docs - if i could get the app password protected, this would be a good solution, otherwise, access to my phone is enough to open and view the files
I would really appreciate any advice here,
Im frustrated with this thing to no end and can't seem to find a solution for something that i would have thought should be trivial
