Extracted Tmobile customizations - HTC Excalibur

Hi Gang - I just bought the HTC s620 so I could use it on CIngular. One thing I noticed though that is missing that I would like to have....the T-mobile Dash has the AO/Messenger?Yahoo/etc chat and email client. Could someone possibly extract that cab installed and post it for us non-t-mobile users?
Thanks in advance/

Seconded! that program looks great. Well done T-Mobile.

I just got the dash, how do I get the .cabs out?
...i'll do some resurche on it now...

They should be on extended ROM I think. Try to use extender ROM unlocker for PPC and see if you can see content of extended ROM. Copy all cabs from there to your PC and then post it here or upload to FTP
TIA

Just be cautious, the IM App they packaged on the MDA used text messages and GPRS. I am not sure if it is the same with the Dash.

Anyone have the HTC GPS software for this thing and can post that .cab

i'm still trying to get the extended rom unlocked....
i've tried a couple unlock managers, with no luck. i'm very new to this so it could take me some more time.

yes, it uses both text mesages, and gprs.

Since when do smartphones have extended roms? That's a PPC thing, isn't it?

Did anyone ever figure this out? I need the My-Email cab file. WM6 doesn't include this.

NOTE TO ALL:
This will never work. You cannot use the OZ Instant Messenger client that comes with the T-Mobile ROM, or the My E-Mail client on ANY other network. These are set to go to special servers set up inside of T-Mobile, and can only be accessed through the T-Mobile GPRS/EDGE connection.
Therefore, extracting these will do you no good.

okay, in my ppc I was trying to get the IM app to work with cingular service. I think it may possibly be able to work because I found a few keys in the registry which refered to the server being used and the phone number being texted. cingular uses the same OZ im system as T-Mobile. I think that it is a matter of finding the right settings. my problem was that I did not know the message center number that OZim uses on cingular.

Ok This Just Came Down The Line
Instant Messenger Application Now Available for Cingular 8500/8525 and TREO 750!
START AND END DATE:
4/23/2007 - Ongoing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OVERVIEW:
The Instant Messaging application, currently found on the E62 and Blackjack, is now available via download for the Cingular 8500/8525 and Treo 750. Customers will be able to enjoy access to Yahoo! Messenger, AOL Instant Messaging (AIM), and Windows Live Messenger communities through one user interface. In the future all new PDAs and Smartphones will launch with the Instant Messaging application preloaded.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY SELLING POINTS:
· Mobile IM from AT&T Mobility offers customers a familiar desktop-like IM experience with features that include existing community user names and passwords, a chat conversation window, buddy lists, presence status, and emoticons.
· Mobile IM offers an immediate, yet informal communication option that other communications cannot provide (e.g. voice, email, text messaging). Consumers can extend their desktop IM community to their mobile device and vice versa (Mobile-to-PC and PC-to-Mobile, and Mobile-to-Mobile IM communications), enjoy 24/7 instant connectivity to their contacts, and communicate in environments that are not conducive to traditional voice conversations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COMPETITIVE INFO — THE CINGULAR ADVANTAGE:
T-Mobile, Sprint/Nextel and Verizon all offer an Instant Messaging application on select devices:
· T-Mobile provides an IM application for select PDAs, BlackBerry devices. The client is pre-loaded, and supports AIM, Yahoo!, MSN and ICQ within one application. Customers are charged on a per message basis, or can use from a variety of messaging packages and bundles which include messaging.
· Sprint/Nextel provides an IM application on select “Power Vision” capable phones with support for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! using separate IM applications. Customers are charged by kilobyte (kb) usage, and can choose from a variety of data bolt-ons that include unlimited IM.
· Verizon provides an IM application on select BlackBerry and “Get-It-Now” capable devices. The application is available via a download, and supports AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! within one application. Customers are charged on a per message basis, or can use from a variety of messaging packages.
I can probably grab the keys out of this when its available.

Messaging shouldnt cost with a data package
I thought instant messaging meant that the messages were transfered through the internet requiring a data package. T-mobile had the sidekick set up like that, the way it should be..instead it has yahoo, msn, and aol using sms messaing. I have downloaded getaboo and it works ok with only some minor hiccups thus far and I believe uses the internet and a data package to transmit messages

no good.. oz messenger will no work
Merwin is right, i have a s621 but i don´t use the t mobile network, i live in Mexico so i use Telcel, the messenger will never work, it uses especial servers from tmobile i suposse trouhgh GPRS or Edge connection. I wonder if someone knows if the tmobile home screen with the live and windows media plugins works in other rooms, i have the 1.24.411.1 Russian Experimental Rom WM6 and it works like a champ! but i miss the home screen provided for tmobile...thanks in advanced.

O2 applications

Well in my search for them on this forums I stumbled accross many versions and different threads, and people couldn't find them at all.
That's why I thought to put these wonderfull apps in one topic.
So far got 3 of them, 2 from some chinese site and 1 from here.
O2 plus has like 3 cracked versions, sms plus just 1, and after 2 days of searching I found a cracked version of phone plus!
To bad I can't find the answering machine yet, media plus nor message plus and menu plus.
Anyone got some more? Might take a look at them and try to make all device versions from it.
Versions (all latest to my knowledge):
O2 Plus 2.3
O2 SMS Plus 1.1
O2 Phone Plus 1.0
Here's the description of the 3:

SKYFIRE: Forget Opera and IE

Recently i was searching for a "usable" Browser for my Hermes.
I was tired of NOT being able to view webpages with flash and no crashes at all.
I googled a lot and visited opera's website with excitement about version 9.5 beta http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/..... until i found out it was officially buggy and cames with no flash and probably "out of Memory" messages because of Hermes Rom.
Then i visited netfront website http://www.access-company.com/products/mobile_solutions/netfrontmobile/browser/index.html, but again.... disappointed.
After 15 minutes looking around i read a name which i wasnt familiar with. SKYFIRE. (Saffari and Firefox deja vu?).
It says that comes with full flash support and a desktop browsing experience in your mobile. Sounds too good to be true i thought.
But it WAS true!!!
Skyfire is everything i've always wanted in my Hermes. Full flash support, Zoom, Bookmarks, Terribly fast.
How to get it.
In Skyfire webpage http://www.skyfire.com/product you have to Sign Up with your USA mobile number and your email address in order to download. (HINT: Enter your real email address and if you are not a USA citizen (like me, i'm from CHILE) enter ANY mobile number, the number you enter here will be your password). In 30 seconds you will receive an email giving you the download link, thats it!!.
Try it, you wont regret.
I think this app should be cooked in future ROMS. Im using ROM 3.62.502.19 (Manila2D) HERMES http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437571 and works like a charm.

you do of course realize that Skyfire is almost as bad as Chrome in terms of tracking.
You don't actually web browse on the phone but via their servers and they send a compressed subset down to the phone plus you are doing it with signed account.
Yeah sure they are free just for the sake of it
At least with Opera 9.5 it's running locally
I am not suggesting you be paranoid but just realize why it's so fast and what the gotchas are with that.

Yep, I am all aware of the technology behind it. You only use it for certain things just like how you use your ROM.
I have skyfire, opera 8.5 and PIE on my phone, ...
why should we be paranoid about such thing? as long as we dont live in one of these countries where internet is all restricted and you could be shot in the head just for saying the word freedom, I think it's a quite good browser for a pda. read newspapers, blogs, facebook... these are good things. however i wouldn't use it for purchases... like putting in credit card details or real private data.
far from being paranoid but it got me wondering how they would make profit.
Skyfire looked sweet as hell, I got it a while back in the first beta and it would devour my fully charged battery in about 30 mins and the phone would get hottt as hell. If they've fixed it I'd be willing to give it a shot again. Are you having any battery issues while running it?

Hi!
I use the skyfire since some days. It is good, only you need to know, it's a beta! there are still so few errors which skyfire gradually be resolved. e.g. breaks with me after about 20 seconds of audio stream (at existing EDGE / 3G connection) from. wifi with no problems.
pages are sometimes not displayed, sometimes can not save favorites. These are just some errors that often occur with me. skyfire in the forum are more described.
Nevertheless, it is a great browser, if only because it is now possible, swf and flv streams to see.
Can you only wish so much fun!

Request for CAB for T-Mobile proxy settings for Excalibure

Hi, looking at the new ROM cook-ups all around, I feel a great need for a CAB for the proxy settings for various internet plans (specially 5.99). I have seen similar CABs for touch phones (PPCs) but none so far for smartphone.
CAB would help all of those who have only one phone to work and experiment to quickly configure the new ROM and give it a test run.
I did my best to look around for the CAB solution, but did not find it anywhere, hence this request.
I do have working settings in text mode, that I can type-in and make the proxy work, so I am not looking for those.
Just go to http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/ on your computer, fill out the info and T-Mo will send you an over the air 'update' simple, fast, free and easy

Yeah, it does work, but it does not (and would not) provide the 5.99 proxy hack, to make PIE, Opera and Push mail work on 5.99 connection and user has to configure them by hand. I was asking for some kind of CAB that can push those settings in, instead of typing them every time a new ROM is flashed to test it. Btw the t-mo connection configurator that is found in 6.1 cooked ROMs also work fine for basic connection setup, but not for proxy hack setup.
this would be nice. very nice actually.

will wp7 have built-in voip?

does anybody knows something about that?
there was on wm6, there is on wm6.5... maybe it will be finally usable on wp7 where hw is more software compliant? may we finally use it, and all other voip sw beeing able to choose wich speaker use? or having the ability to make voip call from contact list simply choosing "make a voipcall" like we make with video call or having a dedicated button in dialpad? why is it so difficult having these simple functions?
Doubt it. Most phones dont because the carriers dont like it. They want all calls/texts to go through them so they make more money!
Its all about money and VOIP isn't good for the manufacture or carriers.
There will be no Voip on the phone to begin with. They are allowed as apps but they won't beable to run in the background with the first release.

Actually, no, they aren't allowed. That is, there's no policy that says no VoIP, but there's no socket support for third parties, so you just can't make a VoIP application.

That doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of carriers today explicitly forbid you from using VoIP and P2P. They are even starting to leverage control of this by limiting your speed to GPRS bandwidth if they see any type of unwanted traffic going thru your handset.
It's not in the best interests of carriers to allow you to use their network, with a flat-rate dataplan, for VoIP as that means they make no money on your calls. I'm betting we will see a similar policy on SMS/MMS in the future as this is definitely their biggest cashcow.

You're saying that you think carriers are going to forbid you to use SMS over the data connection (like Google Voice)? I think not. That's a major selling point of Android currently. They can't be all in with Android and forbid use of Google Voice.
I’m not sure that Voxofon for WP7 is really what I am looking for. The product description in the app marketplace states the following:
- No WiFi required
- Will use plan minutes
- Not suitable for use while traveling and roaming
Wikipedia states the following:
Voxofon has also released an application for Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, however it uses the phone's voice channel, and not VoIP.
It seems like the iPhone and Android users get a supported Skype application. I need some sort of VOiP app that I can use to make calls while connected to WiFi while traveling internationally.
So my question remains, is there, or will there be soon, such an app for us WP7 types?
Thanks,
Dave

There isn't now. I think MS doesn't provide the necessary APIs. Also, there is no multitasking, which eliminates a host of applications and prevents effective VOIP software. Multitasking will come late this year. The necessary APIs for independent VOIP apps like Skype, I'd guess around the same time but it's just a guess, on the basis that VOIP/IM apps are well-known and important to consumers.
Proper integrated (SIP) VOIP? Who knows?
Android has a big lead here, with both integrated SIP and independent support.
Well,
I don’t like the information, but appreciate it nonetheless. As a world-traveler, I need this ability – badly – but for now I think I like this OS well enough to put up with this shortcoming for a spell.
Thanks for your response!
Dave
The VOIP limitation is really based on a lack of socket support. That's going to change with mango if not earlier. There's a rumor that at MIX they'll announce socket support but it's known to be on the short list in any case. This is something MS has been working on. In fact VOIP already has registry entries in current WP7 builds: http://mobilitydigest.com/visual-voicemail-and-voip-for-wp7-confirmed-via-homebrew-registry-viewer/

Looks like WhatsApp is heading our way

Bill Cox, Sr Director of Communications for Windows Phone, retweeted this WhatsApp tweet:
Did you know that mangoes account for approximately half of all tropical fruits produced worldwide?

It's coming People!
Don't care anymore. They waited too long. I want ChatOn. It does more...

To be fair Kik is a great alternative but then convincing your friends to use something other than WhatsApp isn't an easy task. So really this is good news.
Samsung ChatOn will be better. It'll have much better file/media sharing and social functionality. Samsung just need to get the App out the Door. I still know people who refuse to create a Facebook account. ChatOn would be perfect for those people.
Never used Kik before. They had a Huge Security hole on WP7 and they took way too long to fix that.
WhatsApp is a lot more popular in Europe than in the US, though.

For when your friends are away from their PCs:
If they have an Android phone: Facebook chat is a bit rubbish and WLM isn't used by most (both are done via third party android apps)
If they have a Blackberry: Neither of FB Chat or WLM are really avaliable
Both sets of these users use WhatsApp a lot.
^ I don't have a FB account, but my lady does. Her FB chats are integrated in with her texts, just like all the other social stuff is integrated in her contacts app. She loves it. So it can't be too rubbish.
Oh yeah she has a Android.
maybe i'm wrong but didn't blackberry have an official microsoft version of wlm?
I don't understand the tweet. I mean, I understand, but don't have idea of what have to do with WhattsApp in WP7 :/
The tweet came from the official Whatsapp account, and mentioned the popularity of mangoes. You're supposed to put 2+2 together, and interpret it to mean that Mango has their attention right now.

RIM has their own IM apps for WLM, Yahoo, AIM, and some others that goes through their network, pushed and everything.
Facebook chat, I don't think so.

The biggest failure of WhatsApp is that you have absolutely no control over who else can see taht you have it installed on your phone if you use the program. Also, if you change your phone number or relagate your phone to a backup other people can have multiple entries in their WhatsApp contact list. It's really messy from that standpoint.
I had to contact them to get phone numbers removed from their DB because of that. It's a real PITA.
It's like getting a BB and having every other BB list in your phone's contact list automatically be able to see your PIN and send you messages, unless you block them. Ugh...
That's great news... in between testing a bunch of new smartphones (some are Android based), I've grown used to WhatsApp and have quite a few friends with it.

I would definitely agree with that which is why I think KiK is superior but convincing people to drop WhatsApp is a lost cause. Having the app checking your contact list is considered to be its biggest feature and the reason it has more users. I don't see how hard it can be to enter a username once for each one of your contact.
Correct.
That's why I'm waiting for ChatOn. Hopefully it will come to WP7 but since I've been using the Vibrant as my daily driver and the HD7 as a quasi-ZuneHD it won't matter if it comes to Android first
The main issue I've had with WhatsApp and Kik is reliability and message delivery speed. This is more pronounced with Kik. They were really really fast at first, but as more people started using it their service has degraded. WhatsApp is more reliable but I still get stints where messages fail to send for several minutes and I don't recieve messages people send, or get them way after they send them... For hours at a time...
I really like what Samsung is doing with ChatOn, though. They need to get the Android app out fast so I can try it out.
File Transfer in the integrated Mango Chat protocols is too limited, IMO.
chat apps............meh.....
Nice have been waiting for this quite some time.
The built in live + fb messenger is not sufficient since you HAVE to be online to send/receive messages. It has chat only not integrated messages (and really why?). Also it drains the battery so quickly that is kind of useless.
It does not let me be offline for live and be online for fb. And if somebody send me offline msgs, i have to read them in the fb app which is a pain. Cant wait for the mango update of the fb app and be able to pin the inbox to the start screen.
Lets hope MS does some improvements to the native support of offline msgs in the next version.
Drains your battery? I've actually had better battery life with Mango, my only gripe is Zune freezing with downloaded marketplace songs, but I think the chat is amazing, would have loved an inbox too though.
& did I see somebody say nobody uses WLM?
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Another tease, it's definitely coming. By the way, Joe Belfiore also retweeted the initial tweet so no doubt is allowed. For all we know they might get it out as soon as Mango is released.
