Help with extended batteries... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Accessories

My one year old Jasjar has started dying when the battery has 60-70% power remaining. Looking at the other threads here it sounds like the solution is to replace the battery. I'm thinking I want to get one of the extended batteries, but I don't want to increase the size of the Jasjar by too much. I've discovered that there are quite a few extended battery options, and it looks like they add between about .5cm and 1cm, but many stores don't mention how much the batteries add. Additionally, I've seen some posts that suggest that some of the cheaper batteries don't correctly report their remaining charge status and the Jasjar simply reports 100% charged no matter how much power is remaining.
If any of you have one of the extended batteries, can you please give me the following information:
1 - mA capacity of battery
2 - size increase when battery is installed
3 - whether the built in power meter works correctly with the battery
4 - where the battery was purchased
Thanks much,
Brett

1 - mA capacity of battery (3800mAh)
2 - size increase when battery is installed (extra 9mm)
3 - whether the built in power meter works correctly with the battery (works correctly)
4 - where the battery was purchased (expansys)
enjoy!

Are you sure it does not increase the thickness? Because from what I can see, IT DOES INCREASE THE THICKNESS, that is why there is a cover included. You are referring to this: http://www.mobixhk.com/product_info.php?products_id=122&osCsid=9e76ca40892bbff9e68cb6d07a6c7297
What is sad is it is only 2200 as compared to the other extended batteries out there which also increases the thickness, and they have 3200 and 4800 capacities. So why should we settle for something that also increases the thickness with a lesser capacity? I'd rather go for the higher capacity battery, but this is just me of course.

Here are a few pictures of my extended battery.I have charged it only 4 times since i have purchased the battery.Although im not a power user as most,it does the trick!!!

So if the capacity is 2500mAh compared to 1650mAh for the stock battery, why are the standby and talk times comparable, instead of vastly superior.
it seems the battery doesn't fit inside s2 !see the comments in feedback section of the seller
So the conclusion is: don't buy this battery!
this is because some people having t'mobile version gs2 bought this battery that is for international gs2 only.
Ok guys here's the real manufacturer page of the Momax X-level battery. Same specs as stock. Not better
Link http://www.momax.net/en/Product_Show.aspx?ID=1519&T=2
yes, i couldn't find the 2500 version on their website
don't buy!

Any Li-ion battery the same size as the original is going to be more or less the same capacity, however there are many sellers who simply upgrade the label and charge more. This has turned into a bit of an arms-race where every seller feels he has to try and out-do the competition's outrageous claims. I've seen the same batteries advertised as 1650mA, 1850mA, 2000mA, 2200mA and now this guy's just trumped that.
When you complain that it doesn't last any longer than the standard battery you'll no doubt be told you have to go through umpteen discharge/charge cycles before it is at full capacity. This is also BS of course.
These are probably perfectly good 1650mA batteries, just don't get conned into paying more for a bigger number on the label.
This batt is fake, I had to buy one to believe it. I used battery monitor app to get the infor about its capacity and it says its 1650!!! Not 2500
don't buy!
I bought two pieces but same the original battery
not need for me...
One good solution for people looking for a greater capacity battery for the SG2 is the Anker at 1900mAh. I have it one year so far, and after hundreds of charging cycles it is still as good as it was the first time. Sorry for the off-topic, however not very often I have bought such a reliable non-brand product. Between 1650 and 1900 the small difference is, that the phone will make it through the day with a moderate use, because for heavy use not even the 2500 is enough....:good:

[Review] 3200mah Battery Case

I found this extended battery case on eBay for £15.99 with free UK delivery.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=180939675217
It fits my SGS3 perfectly, very secure clip at the top and the micro USB connector at the bottom keep it in place very nicely.
It does effectively double the weight of the phone, but for added battery capacity I'm willing to put up with the extra weight.
It has all the required cut outs for camera, light, speaker, headphone jack, and the microphone.
The volume rocker and power button are exposed, and the case does get in the way a little, but not much, will probably prevent accidental button hits in my pocket.
It has an integrated stand which seems sturdy and clips snugly and securely into the back of the case. It does a good job of keeping the phone at a comfortable viewing angle and seems quite strong.
As for the battery part of this case, there are 4 blue status lights that show remaining capacity and an on/off button along the bottom. I have yet to properly test capacity, it came with about 50% charge, and I charged it up to full in about 2 hours from that, and charged the phone at the same time from 56% to full. I'll update this post when I see how well it charges the phone from around 1%.
I'll post some pictures of the phone in the case later, any questions are welcome.
Update: OK, so the battery case managed to get my SGS3 up to 84% from 4%, so an 80% charge without needing to reach for a charging cable is pretty good for a Chinese eBay battery, can't complain for the price!

what are the end result dimensions? I have the hyperion 4200MAH battery and cas, and was wondering mow much larger yours is than mine.
for reference mine is: 140mm long x 73mm wide x 18mm deep. (with the hyperion honeycomb case)
2. function:
what kind of change did you get in battery life? for reference, i more than doubled.. perhaps closer to 2.5 times my battery life.

1. Dimensions are 148 x 73 x 14
2. This is an external battery pack, not a battery replacement, and as stated in original post, I have not fully tested the charging capabilities yet, will be reporting on those later. From the capacity of the battery I would guess that it charges the battery 1 1/2 times, but that's only a guess, this is an eBay Chinese battery after all.

i have the exact same battery case, not sure if i have a defective one, it only charges my S3 up to 48% so its kinda disapointing only around 1400+Mah from the advertise 3200Mah
i tested it with a fully drained S3 (waited till the phone turned off by itself) and fully charge the case and installed the phone turned off
anyone else tested its capacity?
might just change the internal battery later on

Well mine is charging at the moment from 4%, currently at 16% and still going strong, I'll report back with results when either the phone reaches 100% or the battery case dies trying.
Edit: could be some time though, the battery case output is only 500mah!

Another Gold 3500 battery review...slightly scientific

Wanting more battery life and having reading a few positive reviews about the Gold 3500, I got one from Amazon (UK). The numbers 3500 vs 2500 mah indicate I should get around 40% extra battery life compared to stock but having played with RC cars and helicopters running LiPo packs I know that pack ratings aren't everything.
Actual battery capacity depends on the discharge rate, the more juice you pull the less the effective battery capacity you get with a lot of energy wasted in heat due to internal battery resistance. Fact of life with batteries of all chemistry.
My original battery is about 6 months old now, charged daily from anywhere between 0-50% remaining. In day to day use the Gold does seem to last longer based on my 6 months experience with the original battery but how much better is it?
I charged the batteries in my phone and turned the phone off once it hit 100% but kept the charger on as it seemed to charge for a bit longer.
Using my RC battery charger, I used the discharge function setting the low voltage cut off to 3V (standard for lithium batteries) and set the discharge rate at a constant 300 mah. Using a constant discharge rate may not be realistic but it does allow for a fair comparison, keep in mind that our phones power usage jumps up and down depending on use.
Results
-----------
6 month old stock battery rated at 2500 mah = 2364 mah (which is what I would expect from a battery with 180 cycles on it)
Brand new Gold 3500 rated at 3500 mah = 2524 mah (a bit disappointing but at least as good as a new stock battery)
Now the discharge rate can make a big difference to effective battery capacity, it might be that the 3500 mah rating on the Gold batteries was determined using a very low discharge rate or they discharged it to below 3V.....or its just a gold wrapper over a stock battery
Interesting to note that the stock Sammy battery is pretty true to its rated capacity, so the perceived increase in battery capacity I experienced with the Gold battery is probably just the difference between a 6 month old battery and a new one.
Oh well, at least I have a spare battery now and didn't pay a fortune for the Gold. The Gold does seem to last a bit longer than the 6 month old stock on so I am happy enough with it.
Notes:
Gold battery had been in use for 2 weeks to run it in
Only one discharge cycle was performed
Could be that I have a dud battery, you results may differ
In real day to day use the discharge properties of the Gold may result in a higher 'effective' capacity
Solar flares are the source of all coding errors
Fairies do live at the end of your garden :cyclops:
It's a shame i've read this post only two days after buying me one of those. Anyway, even if it won't last longer, i'd still have a spare battery right? So everything is not lost
nope, its a shame they rate it 3500mah if this is the case for all.
Mignon, maybe your can get a replacement from thrm and test again. Especially if you have a dud.
Do notice I notoce a significant increase in battery life after charging it past 100%. Probably placebo, I dont know.
Don't think I have a dud, in my experience lion batteries either work or don't. It's not a crap battery, it's just as good as stock but doesn't match the advertised 3500 mah rating.
And it's shiny gold so things aren't that bad

Well that sucks.....haha...i order a gold a week ago.....it should be here soon.....
I got 3500mah gold battery. I review it.
My rom is ultimate rom v5.1, and my stock battery was 11 months old.
Screen on time was always less than 4 hours.
Yesterday I got the gold battery, and I used it up to 1% without first charge, then I charged it 12 hours to initilize the battery.
So unpluged the charge, and tested it as the same usage. I always downclocked to 1000MHz, wifi on, no use 3g data, brightness is zero, bluetooth and gps is off. I downloaded 15 files and apps today, listened to music, did multi windows function, and almost used web browsing.
Now my battery is just 1%. Screen on time is over 5 and half hours. Obviously the battery was improved.
If official JB are released, the battery will be improved more.
But this is not made in Japan. This is made in China because Japanese is so strange on package.
Some of Chinese battery are so dangerous and may be fake, but this gold battery is good one.

I dropped my stock and it works perfectly till 55% then it dies. Gonna throw it away soon. So some of the cells could be damaged. Its not either they work or dont m8.
@Mingnon thanks for your effortful tests.
@eeynjae, what are all apps spreading around those icons in your notification bar ?
I am pretty sure most mobile 3.7v phone batteries are single cell, only the mugen styled battery extender jobs that require a different back cover run two cells in parallel.
Remaining capacity is usually just a function of cell voltage so it's strange that it should just tank at 55%. Battery protection circuits generally prevent discharge past 3.0 volts so not sure what it's going on there.
Either way it sounds like you need a new battery, wouldn't risk recharging a damaged cell...

yeah its strange. Stuff started to happen at 50, whrn restarting bat percentage dropped to 10-15%. Without restartingbit would go down normally in beginning. Now after using it some time and dropping it its 55%.
Its definitely it either works or doesnt.
Anyway I dont think it's single cell.
i have the same battery bought it a few months back i'am very satisfied....
it's not a 40% extra time even framework it designed to work with less voltage since after using it below 15% i notice always fake meter value, when you keep your phone asleep for half an hour you will notice an increase in percentage. not accurate but runs fine, its a spare and a great replacement i dont care if it's slightly powerful than stock at least its the same size for 4 extra hours.. i never needed to change case nor a cover of anything its great
Sorry for my off-topic question, but i see in this topic there are advised people recently i bought a noname car charger for my Note, (specs: output 5.5V DC, 800mAh) - is this charger good for the Note or it would damage it? (i read somewhere that the original car charger's output is 5V... this difference of 0.5V has any importance?) Thanks.

Thanks for your time and efforts - your results are similar to my amateurish measurements performed twice and reported on the other 3500 battery thread. Having no device to test the actual capacity, I just used the continuous video playback in plane mode with minimal backlight. The time to full discharge was almost identical in both cases.

It won't damage your phone, but if you are going to use it as a gps while charging, it will probably keep dranig the battery, 800mah is not enough to charge it while screen is on and gps is running

New battery

Hello all,
Just a quick question, I ordered a new battery the other day (2450 mAh) and it only charges to 80% before saying it is full. I'm sure that even though I'm on stock kernel I should be able to run a larger battery, so I'm assuming the battery is faulty.
Could anybody give me clarification on the biggest battery size you can run on stock kernel?

Do a battery calibration, google it.
I lot of the 'unbranded' batteries with optimistic power capacities have no regulations around what they state the 'real' usable mAh life of the battery is.
I'd be very surprised if the battery gives you longer usage than your original 1700mAh battery.
I'm guessing it'll probably be considerably less.
There is no limit to battery capacity within the limits of what you can physically fit into the recess provided for the BA900 battery.
Mugen Power can only get a 1900mAh battery in that size... so that's something to consider when you think about a 2450mAh battery.

Battery Experiment

So bought LOSONCOER battery 4600 mah promised, dug a little bit with a small flat head under sim slot and was able to put a box cutter blade in, went around very slowly once then second time back case came off no problem, no cracks. The official battery were all using is rated 3880 mah and under neath is typically. The replacement battery is same size except the chip is a bit thinner so battery seems smaller. Also just sticker on battery. Gonna do accubattery tests.
First result in, less than oem and this was my oem capicity previously

Actually I was wondering same thing, it would seem you can do a battery mod by removing the chip with that connecter and soldering a new battery with positive and negative wires (black and red). Not sure how wrap charge will affect say a 4000 mah polymer 606090 but it should be possible. Also I know polymers are less energy dense than ion but still, the OEM is a lot smaller than this polymer and mah is same
Please update the results after more charge cycles if you can. Accubattery usually underestimates the capacity until it has more data from my understanding
It needs more points because it doesn't believe you will do full charges each time. I put back my original battery because it still works better than this replacement. What I mean is that 1 to 100 was measured, if I did 1 to 30 then 20 to 60 etc will be different points and it will estimate based on that %(how much mah was gained) to get the average. Photo below is my original degraded battery, and at 2 % it last a good bit still instead of shutting down within 2 mins at 5%
what sot?
So I bought an oem from Ali Express and can say so far it seems to be the real deal
