Can I go back? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

I looked around and did not see a clear answer to the question of reverting/flashing back to WM5 if desired after flashing one of these WM6 ROMS.
Does anyone know where I can find the answer?
Thanks in advance.

I too have looked around but haven't asked for fear of being flamed. The gurus think that we should be able to pick up on all the lingo and have a clear understanding of what everything means.
I am looking for a way to go back to a shipped ROM from anything after flashing SPL 1.11 in case I need to warranty exchange my Cingular 8525. I have yet to figure out how to do it.

Yes. You can go back to WM5 from WM6. I have done it before with no problems. Your answer is once again yes!
I will not flame you but look harder.

...but just to let You know..
once You go black (2.5 ), You will never go back...

hi there
first of all, I am no expert in the ROM related knowledge, but i did go back to WM5 from WM6 recently. The reason I have gone back to WM5 it is because I am suspecting the Chinese viewer (CE-Star) that i used does not work good in any flavor of WM6, it causes frequent lock-ups in WM6 that makes my phone pretty much unusable.
Besides, i don't mind to share my experience for downgrading to WM5, the following is my up and down sequence.
1. upgrade from Dopod WM5 rom to WM6 cooked rom
2. upgrade to SPL 1.40
3. upgrade radio to 1.38.00.11
4. upgrade radio to 1.40.30.00
5. upgrade to SPL 2.10
6. downgrade SPL from 2.10 to 1.40
7. downgrade from WM5 Rom (It is some sort of HTC Standard WM5 Rom that my friend gave me, and my radio has gone back to 1.38.00.10 as the ROM comes with it.
8. upgrade to SPL 2.10
9. upgrade to Radio 1.40.30.00
Also, you may check out mrvanx's guide for downgrading to WM5 here.

actually... i'm on black 2.5 and thinking of going back... too many apps are wiggin out on wm6

I actually just did it. I was running the latest version of HardSPL, flashed to the new ATT ROM, and then created a updater to flash the SPL to the ATT spl.
Wasn't hard, and only took a few minutes. So, as of right now, my phone is running the new ATT ROM, and if I need to warranty it, I'm all set.

in the wiki it mentions..
If your vendor has released you original rom as a shipped upgrade, you just need to flash it.
If your vendor has not released any ROM upgrade yet, you cannot fall back to original ROM easily. You'll have to reconstruct the ROM out of a dumped ROM.

I'm using 838pro, what about the ROM which available to download from the dopod company website.
does it safe to just flash from it or do I need to repackage the ROM..?
thank you.

if you only want to read chinese, but not input, there is an alternative to it. look for a cab which is named 'sunglobe.ttf register patch'.

Maybe the easiest way
First thing I would want to do is to Flash the unit to what is known as a "Hard SPL". For some reason it makes all the other flash work go a lot more smoothly. You can get instructions and software for that at:
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php...ask=view&id=40&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=2
Once that is done, and it should take about 5-10 minutes depending upon the speed of your computer and USB connection, you can load whatever OS rom you desire.
You can get a carrier agreeable rom from the Cingular/ATT site:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/8525/software-downloads.html
Or, and this should work, just link directly to the rob by clicking:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/d...R_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe
This should leave you at the latest and greatest of the WM5 packages from Cingular/ATT, and all should be well. And . . . if it hozes . . . which it should not, you should have no warrantee issues since you were trying to flash the upgrade that THEY were providing you. :-D

ROMs from Dopod HK or Singapore are very old ones. The SPL is 1.04. You may not be able to flash backward if you are with HardSPL v7. Also if your radio ROM is newer than 1.27, you may face problem when you flash the original (as it is packed with an old radio rom).
(Please correct me if I am wrong.)
To play safe, follow mrvanx' guide:

After some readings and I have managed to used dutty's tool to recompiled the Dopod's WM5 English rom from the original Dopod shipped rom.
This rom has OS + Extended Rom ONLY.
No IPL, No SPL, No Radio.
I have tested and it works on my Hermes, and Bootloader and Radio stay as is. Please note your result may vary.
Here's the download link
http://rapidshare.com/files/29500131/WM5_Dopod_1.30.707.4__Huchison_3_AU__OS_ExtRom_only.7z
To play safe, I would suggest you to do the following prior flashing the OS rom.
1. Flash boot loader to Hard-SPL-V7
2. Flash your radio rom to 1.38. or 1.40

Upgrading to WM6. Please Help me

i have lokked everwhere for this so if someone can help with a link or an explaination please help.
I have downloaded the rom. How do i upgrade the rom. Step by step proess please.
Thank you very much in advance.
Step 1: Stop being lazy and do your research.
If you won't find anything, follow the instructions from my Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1187445
aarbiser,
Go the the Wiki page for the Trinity:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...me=HTC_Trinity
Read through this thoroughly before upgrading. The key is to understand how you flash back the ROM you currently have, in case of a problem. Back up everything on your Trinity & storage card before doing anything.
Remember, some of these ROMs don't have all the programs your stock ROM came with. For example, if ROM you flash to doesn't have MSN, which you need, then you'll have to install MSN cab separately, after the ROM flash. Any ROM you flash to is likely to have some issues & no Trinitys have been seen flying or making crop circles after the WM6 upgrade...so be careful with your expectations.
If you aren't sure how to upgrade with these ROMs, wait a litle longer (1-2 months), as HTC will eventually have an upgrade for WM6. The beauty of ROMs on this forum is that they contain many improvements, besides the OS upgrade aspect.
Here's a good step by step site. Its for the Hermes but the idea is almost the same.
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php
I don't want to be harsh, nor flame anyone, but if you don't understand how to flash a ROM, you really ought to wait till official versions are released, because Beta WM6 (or any other WM version for that matter) ROM's will require some 'expert' registry or system fiddling at some point, which needs a fairly good basic understanding of the systems.
Stoopid noobie question:
cant find any instructions for the hard SPL. On the hermes instructions it only has 2 files but the trinity one has 6 files...
enter bootloader.exe
rapitool.exe
ROMupdateutility.exe
RUU_signed.nbh
RUUGetInfo.exe and
RUUResource.dll
.. i followed this on the hermes guide website but this step here is different to the trinity........
which to use first? do i use them all before installing the new WM6 ROM?
Do i need to install the new radio version (GSM 1.41.00.11)? Trying to make so if i need to get it fixed under warranty i can just flash back the Aussie 3 ROM and they will be none the wiser....
Can anyone help?
How about someone writing a step by step guide for those of us who are yet to do this..... everyone had a first time....
thanks
Scott
ok. i tried to run the ROM update utility but it wouldnt give me the option to change my SPL to 2.1 olipro..... how do i do this?
Cancelled this before i bricked my trinity......
thanks
ok. now i feel really stooopid.....
after doing the above i checked my bootloader and it is now: IPL-0.50 and SPL-1.07.0000
So, i now have hardspl on my trinity?
so to now install the new rom i just double click on the new rom file?
thanks

You can usually restore an old ROM even without Hard-SPL. It makes it a little easier because you can flash even ROMs that are not intended for your device (for example HTC Rom to Vodafone Compact GPS).

Sure. It is a replacement bootloader made by DES and later by Olipro. You'll find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1239088
LVSW offers it as a download as well, I don't know why he didn't include it in the update itself (nbh).

Yes, original ROM updates are what I call full updates: Bootloader, Splashscreens, OS, Radio. However they will only overwrite Olipro's Hard-SPL if you use Soft-SPL (sspl) for flashing. Keep that in mind if you want to send your device in for warranty repairs...
Enough noob questions answered For details use search, its not hard.
OK OK one more thing...
If I flash from mun_rus rom back to WM05 and take device for warranty... thay will not accept it?
If you flash it properly (load SSPL first, then run official update) they will have no way of telling the difference.
Obviously this only works if you have access to the official full update.

If your phone is the S300+ (SFR version of Trinity) it's gonna be hard. No SFR ROM is available yet. So you can find the OS part over here and you can save your extended ROM, but it seems to be hard to restore exactly as the same.
I`m just asking out of couriosity...
Flashed to muns SE rom works like a charm...

How to flash SPL 2.03

Howd'y just got a new Jasjam Spl is 2.03 how do I go about flashing my rom as the RUU doesn't have my SPl in it ??? Basically I want to updat to CRC's latest
Do some more homework first dude, you dont wanna end up with a paperweight......ALWAYS make sure you have flashed HardSPL before you do ANYTHING.
Take a peek here about what to do: Flashing HardSPL. Then flash away with any ROM you please.
Done a lot of lookin but everything I look at doesn't state anything about the 2.03 version all I want to do is U/grade to CRC's Cooked version, is there a how to incl 2.03 ???? I can't find one

seriously....you DO NOT need/want to be using SPL 2.03....you are increasing the risk of bricking your device...flash hardspl 2.10 to your device then just flash CRCs rom using the utility included with it.
Follow the guide i posted earlier to make your device safe to flash then look in CRCs thread for the files you need to run the ROM.
Bongo333, listen to MrVanx.... You asked the question and he's giving you his expert opinion... Listen to his experience cos god knows his guides have helped me out a lot of times...We don't wanna be answering questions tomorrow about how to unbrick your hermes. Its easier if you listen to experience and have a good time upgading your hermes as we won't knowingly steer you wrong..
Cheers
Do you know how I can get back to SPL 2.03? as I'm having troubles with my Jasjam, and it's not related to various ROMs etc. and I want to take it back to Telstra, but I know that if it has my current SPL version (SPL-1.10Oli) it will be rejected.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've gone through that, but that only gets you to SPL 1.06, which (I'm not sure really) is an older version which wouldn't be recognised by Telstra as genuine?
Thats fine thats a retail one.

generic ROM before flashing new ROM?

Hi, I dont have my Softbanks TyN Hermes 200 base ROM. I reflashed ones to shaps WM6.0.
It is recomended to flash original ROM before reflashing to one of the latest ROMs.... is there a good generic I could use instead of my original ROM? or should I just flash the new ROM directly?
thanks!
Its usually recommended to flash to original ROM when you flash a hyperstorage ROM, ie. OS and ExtROM merged! If not, just flash them and it should be ok.
What i do is strip out just the OS and ExtROM from the orginal one and make a RUU just by themself. I flash this before i flash the ROM i like. That way, i dont mess with radio, IPL, SPL etc.

Hello,
I wanted to follow this method, but my original rom (softbank x01ht, wm5), is not available anymore. Can I use another generic rom, and in wm6 version? And using dutty's tool, are the "version" and "language" fieds important, or is it just for the info in the phone (as it will be a transition rom, I really don't care about it, even is it wasn't transition rom by the way)? Sorry for the noob questions, but I'm trying to avoid bricking my phone...

I am not sure about softbank, but if you can install any hermes ROM, then you should be good to go with any official hermes ROM.
I never change the version and language in dutty's tool when i create my own ROM's!
Ok thanks, that's all I needed! I will take the cingular rom as it seems it was the one which gave best results on hard reset issue.

Hi!
The radio ROM provides improvements on the GSM radio stack and this has effect on the GSM signal, AT command interface, GSM data modem (3G, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, etc...) functionality that is controlled by the Radio Interface Layer (RIL)
Please go trough this page you have plenty of information related to all Hermes related queries one may have.. Hope it will be useful for you
Just remember though that if something stuffs up while flashing the radio rom, you are pretty much gonna end up with a brick... You may be able to use the PDA functions but phone will be gone forever...
same problem
I have a dopod 838 pro. Hardspl by olipro. Flashed roms with manilla 2d and right now suffering the same problem like kahwah..
Tried already the method of flashing original rom then to the cooked rom but still the same problem persist.
Can someone give me an idea on what to do next..
Seriously guys, both of you, READ the Hermes Wiki and the Noob section, they are set as stickies at the top of the thread. I mean, come on, you have not even posted 7 posts on XDA-DEVs and you already are close to bricking your phone.
READ the Wiki first!
