Car Charger Problem - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

The description of WM6 new releases by Faria stated that finaly he solved the annoying car charger disconnection problem.
I think this has been one of the major isues of the Hermes, and until this moment nobody has been able to solve it without tweaking the conectors.
Could somebody explain how to "export" the Faria solution to any other rom (reg change, cab file...).
At the moment I'm with the last Elf rom and don't have time for a new change.
Thanks
(I have made this question on Faria's post but no answer at the moment)

I dont have that problem with my hermes, maybe because Im using the i.Trek semsons automount

Hi.
I solved this problem time ago buying a new car charger for my Hermes, and issue dissapears, no matter wat ROM i use
Not all car charges are the same, take a look and buy one specifically for Hermes...

bear in mind that there are also two different pin configurations for miniUSB connectors.
my father has one miniUSB connector for his GPS and another seemingly identical one for his hermes. one works on the hermes, the other does not.

Thanks for your comments.
I know that there are special chargers that will work, but I use one with 2 USB female connector in wich I can conect at same time an usb+psp double cable (for my Hermes and my Creative Zen Extra) and a single usb cable (for my Leadtek GPS).
I prefer to avoid more gadgets arround, and if there is a free software solution....

I had the same problem. I found a way around it, it's not elegant but it works.
Disconnect and reconnect the battery while the car charges is connected.
It works every time.

There is an easier solution, but not always works. Just connect the hermes while it is in standby.
...
Regarding the real solution announced with the new roms, it should be the chef secret recipe....

I used to suffer from this all the time, now it works 100%. I am running Black 3.5 but I think it was fixed back in Black 2.0 / XDA Live 0.2 time. I am using the same cable I used back then.
The workaround I used to do was, if it didnt start charging, to just soft reset the device and it would charge every time.

im guessing with the faria solution it only sends 500ma to the phone still, but yes working great so far with the Faria rom.
I did have the correct charger cable but then it got mixed up or broken and have not found it since. (it had the correct pins and thus charged at a much faster rate the the usb sync cable rate.

My interest in this is improperly designed devices, such as the Garmin Mobile 20 GPS receiver. It has a method of powering the connected phone/PDA by means of a cable, but it doesn't work on the TyTN (although it does work with a friend's T-Mobile SDA).
The unit clearly gives enough power to charge the TyTN, as connecting it then doing a soft-reset works. I just have no hope that Garmin will fix this issue, even though I have pointed them to one of the larger threads on car chargers, and what has to be done to make them work (I suspect that a new charging cable on their end would be enough to make it work). Thus, a software fix that works with the various ROMs out there would be a good thing.

I would also like to know this.
my sister and father both have hermes i would like to implement this change which has caused my dad MANY porblems without havnig to upgrade him to WM06 and invalidate his warentee.

I bought some cheap no-name USB car charger labled for Motorola Razr I believe... I was confused as to why it seemed to work intermittently. I recently found the answer - you must have the car charger live before you plug it into the Hermes. So I:
1. Plug in the car charger to the cigar lighter
2. Start or turn on the car
3. Then plug it into the Hermes.
Works 100% now.

everyone keeps missing the point...
there are several work arrounds!!!
BUT somone has managed to work out how to get the software ROM to behave properly.. this is better than ANY work arround or special adapter....
this software is what we require. (please!) stop explaining you special connection methods its not what is being asked for...

CRADLE causing HARD-RESET???

I have had it happen 4 times in less than one week... occasionally my device somehow does a HARD-RESET by itself!!!
One time, I slightly shifted the device while it was just sitting in the cradle, and it did a HARD RESET!!! The other times it just happened when I was inserting it into the cradle or when I was removing it from the cradle.
Any ideas? This is a HUGE pain-in-the ...ASK me if I really like setting-up the device features over-and-over again. Aaaaargh!!!!!
i had this problem once... when i changed the sim card..
just make sure that the battery latch is secured properly.
Have you checked that the connector, or especially the pins on the pda2k are not bent/damaged? The design of the dock isn't great (unlike Toshiba pda's where the dock cradle is so high and good quality metal design with slide rails that you can drop the unit in perfectly and quickly) and if damaged could be shorting a power line. A collegue had this problem with an XDA and it was a chargeable repair as they say it is deemed user negligence! So be very careful docking your device!
Thanks Sunish, the battery is secure... don't think that is the problem in this instance.
lx_t ...I checked the connector on the cradle and the pins on the device and everything looks good.
Maybe I should get a new cradle? Do you guys know where I can get one of those newer cradles that allow the sync AND the recharge using the USB connection. I saw them on eBay (UK) but they were silver color and I'd prefer a black cradle to match the device. I'm in Canada though, so it's not that easy to find these things locally.
dunno if it will work, its not really fixing the problem, but try and upgrade your active sync, to v4 i upgraded to this and it seems faster and fixes a couple of fixes i had.... its only a suggestion tho..

Hard-Reset in car cradle

Hi
I'have experienced this problem about 15 times, on all ROMs that i have tried.
When i'm in car and i insert my Imate Pda2k into the cradle, it perfoms an hardreset.
This problem happens about every 3 months, sometime 2 or 3 time in a day !
I have tried to change the charger, but problem still persist.
So i have opened the car charger connector and i have noticed that some pins connection were different from the original AC connector included with my PDA.
So i have reproduced the pinout connection on my car cradle connector, and i didn't experienced the problem for 3 months.
YESTERDAY, the problem happened again two times !!! so i don't think anymore that the problem is produced by an incorrect pinout of the connector....
PLEASE HELP ME !!! It's no funny to have random hardreset while you ara going around with your car (maybe with navigator).
Finally, someone else with this problem!
In my case, I only seem to get the problem if I have bluetooth on. It doesn't even seem to matter if the bluetooth is connected to another device or not.
Of course, I use bluetooth to connect to the GPS unit, so this is a big pain!
I'm using WM5, but when I downgraded again to WM2003 the problem stopped for abit and then came back. I find it strange how the problem went away for awhile but came back, along with the fact that using diffrent cable in my car didn't seem to fix the problem once it returned.
I can only think it's something with the firmware, but then it would be a problem in both WM2003 and WM5 firmwares.
It's a mistery.
yes.... it's a mystery
It's not a problem produced by applications, becuase i have experienced it, twice after an hard reset proced by the same problem.
maybe a car problem ??? i have a Peugeot 206 ? which car do you have ?

Holox BT-541 Bluetooth GPS Review

First post, so go easy folks...
The Holox BT-541 Bluetooth GPS receiver is waiting for me to collect from the Post Office in the morning. I plan to test it out and then post my findings.
First off, it was £25 including delivery from ebay and I am fully aware that the makers have ripped off the "Holux" brand name. Not particularly bothered by that and am more interested in testing the little bugger out.
I don't however, have any other GPS system (other than Nokia N95) to compare it to, so do you guys have any particular information requests? I will do my best to answer your queries.
I'll be using it with Memory Map PDA software on HTC Universal in the UK using OS 1-25,000 maps. I'll probably try it out in conjunction with Nokia Maps also.
I've got a Holox, very nice little thing! Picks up GPS signals very quickly (under 30 seconds i think it was ... i didnt count too well...), and my HTC Touch picks it up via BT almost instantly!
Hmm.
First impressions not good. The instruction manual is delivered on a cd which none of my three drives will read.
I can't get any further than pairing the device with my Universal. After that I just get "Could not open COM port" errors. Any clues on how to set it up?
OK.
The problems with connecting were caused by the stupid GPS Connection program in WM6. The unit connected first time with my Nokia and gave an indoor accuracy of 18m. Cold start - 21s
Got it working on universal like this:
Device Paired
Select Serial Port service
Create COM port (I could only get it working with COM8)
In the External GPS Settings program select Hardware Com port as COM8
Baud Rate 38400
Select Software Com port as NONE
Deselect "Manage GPS Automatically" in the Access tab.
Now it works very well and the little blob on my Memory Map screen is able to follow me everywhere I go. There doesn't seem to be any lag at all and it happily follows me around while driving.
I took the Holox unit into the forest today for a workout. It's a 50 year old Scots/Corsican pine forest.
Cold start in 45s under the tree cover. I walked 2km and then drove a further 5km in a Land Rover. The GPS only lost its bearings once, for a distance of about 50m, putting me about 100m to the south of where I actually was. Not bad for being under constant tree cover.
The unit uses the same battery as my Nokia N70 and therefore getting a replacement battery when it dies should not be a problem. It'd be nice if it had a hole to attach a lanyard, but I guess something could be improvised.
Just wanted to say thanks for the review, I've really been wanting to get one of these but was a little put-off by the website, made me doubt it would actually work. Anyway based on this I think i will get one, thanks!
How is it charged? USB or normal plug
Got two of these off ebay. (1 Duplicate sent by mistake).
Great little device.
Flown a Cessna 172 with it using XDA2i , Memory-map navigator and Pocket FMS http://www.pocketfms.com .
Driven with it using Tom-Tom and HP rx3715, HP Hx2750, XDA2i and Palm Tungsten T3.
No problems pairing. Manual covers basic setting up, and LED indicators etc.
Mains charger supplied, but can be charged using standard USB A to Mini B from a USB port on PC, or via a USB adapter from a Car 12v source.

I was thinking of buying one of these, but I hate having wires and chargers and stuff around my car - does this thing work while plugged into a charger? And once it's over-charged, do you need to disconnect it before it will start charging again etc? I'd like to get one and leave it permanently connected to a power supply, and just park it on my rear parcel-shelf or something?

Hmmmm perfect. I've tried for two days to get a motorola t815/805 working, installing motonav (still not working) and I couldn't get any help at all through the motorola site or software. Your com port settings worked perfect, it finally paired up and google maps mobile found it.
I may not even try to get motonav workng, I'm so frustrated with that.

can USB A/C connector in TyTN be used out??

hi!
When I plugged my TyTN into PC via USB or to A/C charger I found that LCD is not displaying properly the today screen, it was getting white and some colour lines showed for few seconds. It was randomly changing and showing and hiding... and caused that I can't work with device.
What was diagnosed by me that when I move the USB jack fitted in port to left or right it helped to come back to OK status.
So I used (in anger) my strenght and fixed my machine for longer time (don't ask how but i'm curious if usb port located in TyTN can be used out???
someone any experience??

As with any device, the hermes will get to the end of its life. And usb ports can break quite easly if your not carefull or unlucky.
Thats why I never use the wired headphones, dont want to kill my port.
Glad to see you got yours working again though! (your lucky you didnt break it fully, by using to much strength )

+1 on the kaiser for the next phone man... i'll be around for a while in hermes though
You can always buy a new usb port, but make sure you have a good soldering iron, and very good eyes. The 5 pins on the base of the port are extremely small and close together. If you don't have a magnifying glass, it could be a nightmare.

If that's the case, I'd just snap that port off now.

Kaiser is a mess I think, with all the non-accelerated video etc problems.
I'm eyeballing with Sony's XPERIA but only when it becomes $300-400 and only if no Android will match it by then - because XPeria's initial $1k price won't go down in less than 6-8 months and most like by then (practically next Spring) the second wave of Android-based phones will be arriving, beating XPERIA in everything at less than half the price...

The Omni software driver and HTC class action drivers do the job fine I dont even use any D3D stuff.
The extra ram and the faster cpu sound good to me.

Its been almost two (2) years since I last used my htc exec when the usb cable socket of the device stopped working. With my repeated failure to connect via bluetooth, I dumped the device and replaced it with nokia 5800 (no comparison!). At that time, I just don't have the patience to troubleshoot it but I recently solved it when I upgraded my laptop to windows 7 so I'm back with it now (missed the qwerty). I notice though that the keys are not as responsive as before. Any solution to this? I'm also looking for a tweeter software for win mobile, I appreciate if there are suggestions. Thank you.

Try to blow the key pad with air blower to clean it up. Or look for key pad membrane on Ebay, it costs a few bucks. If the USB cable is failty (For connecting to the PC just buy any USB to mini usb connector it should work. And can be found cheap on Ebay too. for more infor check the XDA Wiki.

Thanks bro!will try your suggestion later when I get home. For my USB cable, its just weird coz it will work when I charge the battery but it wont work when syncing. Anyway, I already addressed it via bluetooth connection. It syncs well with windows 7. Still using winmobile 6.1 by Ranju though I'm hoping I can reflash it still via bluetooth for newer roms (nothing wrong with ranju's - one of the stable roms i've ever used). Cheers!
