IE upgrade - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Dear All
I use Yahoo mail beta and I can not use it on WM5 as it has IE4. Could you tell me if WM6 has a higher version of IE or is there something else I can use?
Thanks
Alastair

Hmmm, I have to say yes, WM6 does have a higher build number than WM5 but I don't know how to confirm. I've read something I think about the user agent string and it says something like IE6 mobile...but this is really dredging it up from my memory so sorry if I'm wrong.
However, there are a couple of things you can try before you decide to go for a WM6 ROM (which I would do anyway ) and that is PIEPlus from www.reensoft.com - this allows you to change the user string so you can make the website think you are using a desktop browser
Then there Opera 8.65 which might also do the trick.
Either way, happy hunting
Smiffy.

I liked the WM5 PIE better because it had better java support. It'd be awesome to have the WM5 browser in WM6

WM6 Email Client on WM5

Hi!
I have a Dell Axim x50v (VGA device) running WM5 AKU 2.3, and would really want to have HTML support for email, since WM5 email client doesn't support it. I don't want to download any extra third-party application like Flexmail, but rather would like to know if there is some kind of a plugin for this native email client that allows HTML support.... I heard of WM6 and it's richer email client. Is there any way you can install WM6 email client on a windows mobile 5 device like mine? If not, is there any WM6 ROM that will work on my PDA? (Other things like viewing Internet Explorer Mobile in high resolution mode, or the new "calendar ribbon" would also be a worthy upgrade.)
.... There is a very slight chance that Dell will release an official WM6 upgrade considering how old my model is.... (it came out in 2004, being replaced by x51 models in late 2005).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
For what I have read, you are basically out of luck.
You can't rip the email client out of WM6 since it seems to be very much incorporated within the OS. If you want to enjoy the WM6 email client you have to upgrade.
As far as if there is a WM6 I am not sure and since you have reached a HTC forum, well, have you tried a Dell site?

Quoted for the truth.
Outlook (PIM) depends on Shell, Shell depends on Coredll, Coredll depends on kernel. Bummer.
Like I said, there is no chance that Dell will be releasing WM6 upgrade for its handhelds, so visiting "aximsite" wasn't very usefull for me right now.
When you guys mentioned that the WM6 email client is very much incorporated with the OS, does the same apply with the Internet Explorer Mobile that now supports high resolution, or the Microsoft "MarketPlace"?
Is there at least a third-party HTML support plugin for the native email client, or is Flexmail the only solution for viewing HTML-formatted emails? (I would really prefer a "free" third-party application.)

Try Qmail IMHO the best email program and what is more important free
http://q3.snak.org/download/ take most up to date compilation from Nightly build section and don't be afraid about japanese page Qmail is in english! At the bottom of download page you'll find openssl extension for secure connections.
I can't properly download this "Qmail" program. If I want to download and install it through activesync by first of all extracting the zip file from the nightly build and then running the exe file, it eventually says "not a valid Win32 application" or something like that. In fact, i can't stand that official japanese website, cause i get that same message for anything i try to download from there.
Actually, i got a chance to see how Qmail works (looks pretty nice - it supports HTML, right?), but not necessary to use it. Instead of running it on a PC, i copied right away that zip file to my device, and installed Total Commander on my PPC. However, I had to extract each component for Qmail separately using the Total Commander. Really a disasterous download, if not even. It ended up opening the program, but never really saving it anywhere on my device. After a quick soft reset, there is no more trace of it.
So, SERIOUSLY, does anyone have an alternate cab or exe file of the latest nightly build for Qmail v3 that actually works, not links to that japanese website?
I think you don't get the idea of inslalling it it's not self installing program! unpack it on your desktop than move whole folder with all files (all dlls and q3u.exe) to some folder on your ppc, probably the best is storage card. You can copy files that way by opening activesync and than klicking on explore button there will be your ppc just like any other folder in normal desktop pc. Copy whole qmail folder to it and thats it, you can start qmail using totalcommander on ppc or later create some shortcut to program on today or in programs.
here is packed folder "Qmail" with all needed files unpack it on your desktop and copy unpacked folder with files to your ppc using activesync explore button! Sorry but I can't write it more simply This one works on my ppc as all other versions did!
http://przemek.nekla.pl/Qmail.rar
and one more thing here you can read somthing more about qmail and the power of this program! also how to set it up

Nice!!! I finally got Qmail installed on my device. Seems like it can do a lot more than just let you view HTML-formatted email. So, how well does it compete with the native WM6 email client?
Ohh, you guys never answered me about WM6 Internet Explorer. I find that IE that comes with WM5 takes very long time to open pages, or at least - fairly slow. (Doesn't work very well in the morning when you are in a rush, and don't want to wait for your PC to start up, and whenever it's ready to connect to the internet). Many WM6 reviews say that the WM6 IE is quite faster, supports AJAX, and especially more stable. (Don't know how to explain it to you, but when scrolling too fast the web pages, especially in landscape mode, at one point all the graphics and program icons become as if shattered with black, grey, green, red, ... lines -the images corrupted, that requires soft reset.) Not sure if this is an error, or if WM6 fixes it. That's why I was thinking of overwriting my current IEMobile with the Internet Explorer that comes with WM6. Or is it hard-coded, as well as WM6 email client, into the OS?
One last question. (sorry, if I'm bothering you guys too much.) Everyone knows that IEMobile of any kind does not allow multiple tabs. And i really would have preffered some kind of a plug-in, not a separate web browser, that allows it. I tried PIEPlus, but it also adds way too many features that I don't even need (i need a browser plugin that handles it as simple as possible) that only wastes more memory, and i think, slows down the IE even more. Any idea???
Ok, I know I was asking above lots of things. So, to make it easier:
1)Does anyone know how i can speed up my internet explorer mobile?,
2)And how i can fix that occasional screen error that occurs while browsing the internet that messes up my whole PDA?
So, um, can somebody help me?
Hello! Is anyone out there?

WHY move to WM6? Your MUSTs?

Sorry to ask you guys, but after a lot of search in the forum, and playing for a while with a Touch, I haven't see a compeling reason to move my Trinity from my actual version :HTC SPA GPS Official tweaked and + or - working properly.
So that's my question: Why YOU would decide/reccomend WM6 over WM5?
Thanks a lot for the advice.
Regards.
PD I did download the WM6 Faman SPA ROM, but yet reluctant to install. Help me decide!
a) keep up with the times - you'll have to eventually anyway
b) update wm6 without having to re-flash it
c) html emails!
d) looks nicer
e) other stuff which i've yet to find out about -- that's right, i haven't upgraded from wm5 to wm6 yet! still waiting for an official wm6 rom. might go with indigo full if it's not too buggy and if mun fixes the poor radio signal problem.
WM6 is:
Faster
More stable
HTML email
Updated Office
More available RAM
Nicer looking
These reasons should be enough to convince you to upgrade provided that you have the time to reinstall all of your applications and setup your device from scratch.

Thanks for your info!
Granted, I will keep up with the times, but after WM2003 (full restore no longer available), the hassles of upgrading have overcomed the benefits.
I understand that what you mean by wm6 upgrades without reflashing is without reinstalling apps, isn't it?
As for html e-mails... well I don't use HTML a lot even in my desktop, nor do I check e-mail in my Trinity other than web-mail.......
For the look... you mean the gray Today screen? IT seems OK, but not to the extent of upgrading ;o))
Really, some nice points to be aware. Thanks.

Faster: That would be one good reason! WM5 is soooo sloooowww.....
Stable: my second best one!
HTML e mail... well, not a key point to me, but I'll take that one too.
Updated Office: I've never been able to do a lot of work on Office apps. It's nice to add some data on the go, as to expenses reports and so on, but not "real" formatting and the like. Too many compromises when "syncing" excel complex datasheets to name one "minus" point.
How much more RAM available are we talking?
As for the nicer looking, I admit it might be, but after one hour or so with an i-phone, EVERY WM device looks... well.... past century.....
Obviously, reinstalling all apps, the registry tweaks, the network settings, etc, is a big drawback, especially if I've to roll back everything, as happened too many times with the S200.
Well, thanks for pointing the issues for my, i'm getting closer to the upgrade.

IMHO the first two (faster, more stable) are theoretical. I've been using various WM6 ROMs, and I don't see much increase in speed compared to WM5, and the beta/cooked/hacked roms aren't as stable as well (but the official WM5 has issues too, so maybe because it's just a Windows after all...)

I was referring to the Windows Update feature on WM6 that'll allow you to download updates for WM6 via the internet as oppose to flashing your phone with a whole new ROM which'll mean re-installing all your apps etc.

Hi,
One significant speed increase: Use File Explorer to access "\windows"
This directory contains a large number of files.
In WM5 it takes very long (10-20 seconds from memory).
in WM6 it takes 1-2 seconds, hinting at significant improvements in file system routines.
This might also have indirect impacts on other functions.
Cheers

Kavana Esmertec Opera Mini defaults to foreign language

I'm in the US, loaded the Kavana WM6.1. Afterwards I went to the opera mini site and installed the latest java browser.
Why does it think I'm in some other country? Many of the sites I goto seem to default to some Scandinavian or Russian site ... I'm not sure, since I can't read it.
I've looked in the opera mini settings which is pretty much English, menu-wise but I've found nothing to set my locale.
I'm thinking it's in the ROM and whatever Esmertec Jbed was loaded, because I didn't have this issue prior to loading this ROM. Is there some sort of registry entry that I can edit to let the ROM know I'm in the U.S.?
Thank you,
Tim
Good question..
I have experienced the same thing with like myspace for example.
that's probaby a Opera Mini issue. It routes all traffic to its home servers in Finland. I used to have this problem, but it seems corrected itself. I'm still using 080314 version of wm6.1 though.
exactly as qaplus said, its operas problem..thats how Opera Mini works so damn fast...it uses a proxy to fast feed your phone the websites, but it is all routed through Finland, so it automatically formats pages in Finland-ese(FYI Finnish I think heh)

Internet Explorer 6 ??????

Hi my friends, i just have a small request. Where in this world i can download the IE6.cab. I have look all over tha place with no success and i know is there, can someone guide me, THANKS....
Good Luck
I don't think you're going to find it around here. It's not liked very well. Most everyone here uses Opera or Skyfire.

I know my friend, i use Opera & Skyfire but i just want to see how it works, not to reed peoples comments !!!!
Afaik there is no cab file. IE6 has to be cooked into the ROM.
Its a bit like in windows where IE is built into the OS, but as we know WinMo doesn't support the kinda patching you would need tood.
Anyway, its still awful, yes flash works, but it eats ram ect!
I also need Internet Explorer from wm6, not necessarly a cab file, but at least the .exe of PIE.
I flashed a wm6.1 rom, and the wm6.1 PIE just sucks, I really want the older version back. I use opera and other browsers but in some cases pie is the best. Anyone who has an extracted rom/files from a rom please upload the PIE from wm6.

[CAB][OEM][EXT]2010 Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile (does not require Java)

Opera just released Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile requiring no Java. It runs a lot faster than the Java version and doesnt have that big annoying keyboard as an option. It also automatically connects your data connection taking away any lag when starting up and selecting a bookmark. Here are 3 downloads. A CAB, and an OEM or EXT package for Chefs. OEM for Build OS, EXT for Visual Kitchen.
Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile CAB
Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile OEM
Opera Mini 5 for Windows Mobile EXT
Enjoy!
thanks cooking [email protected]

Yea I hear you on the 5 java version, it would either crash or get stuck in memory. I am pleased with the non java version for sure though. Let me know how it goes I havent cooked it in yet. Just using the CAB.
I have the OLD I mean Old Tmobile SDA and it works the only downside is that you need a qwerty key board in your phone, otherwise you can only type numbers... Kinda sad but if you really want it to use it bad just use windword and copy and paste your words... lol

Thats a shame buddy, just look for a newer device on ebay and flash it for tmobile. You should be able to score at least a touch screen pda for 100 or less.
Edit: I just checked and seems you should be able to use a number pad to type with this version. This is taken from the multitapbream.ini file included in the install.
Code:
[MultiTap_abc]
KEY0=" 0"
KEY1=./,[email protected]&~!_'"1+-()%:=
KEY2=abc2
KEY3=def3
KEY4=ghi4
KEY5=jkl5
KEY6=mno6
KEY7=pqrs7
KEY8=tuv8
KEY9=wxyz9
[MultiTap_ABC]
KEY0=" 0"
KEY1=./,[email protected]&~!_'"1+-()%:=
KEY2=ABC2
KEY3=DEF3
KEY4=GHI4
KEY5=JKL5
KEY6=MNO6
KEY7=PQRS7
KEY8=TUV8
KEY9=WXYZ9
[MultiTap_123]
KEY0=0
KEY1=1
KEY2=2
KEY3=3
KEY4=4
KEY5=5
KEY6=6
KEY7=7
KEY8=8
KEY9=9
Just re-did all the files so that it installs into the windows directory. I was unsure if that was possible but I just confirmed it. This will save space!
cooked in my manila 2012 rom, works fine so far. no annoying pop up windows asking to connect.
Is there anywya to make this my default browser instead of IE in manila?

is there a possibility to cange the font size... i mean not in the menue. the "small" letters are still to big...
how do i make sense 2.5 internet tab load this by default? it still opens 9.7 when i press the globe, a link, or search
login glitches!
nice try man! but test it thoroughly on your device because the biggest problem of opera mini 5 is that it cannot get you logged in to some of your online accounts. i been using that for a week but stii have no success. even if i switched connection to socket or http.
but still... good luck!

Hi RyanMogul6800!
can u pls tell me how to edit the file multitapbream.ini and where to find it
i also have da same problem with om5wm..it only accept numbers, cant type the letters. thank buddy.
Hey Ryan, is it up to Opera to release a new Mini 5.1 cab that doesn't require java, or is it something you can cab up?
Excellently working, but I've a question ..
Both Opera 9.7 & Opera 10 can read Arabic words/sentences normally after installing my language package, but Opera Mini shows them in reverse & with letters unconnected. Is it possible that someone knows what how to get over this? Noting that Opera Mini could read Arabic normally on my previous Symbian phones (Nokia).
Thanks in advance.
Is it possible to have English UI when the Reginal Setting in the handset is in another Language like Opera 9.7
Opera Mini 5 + Extra options
do you want to try my opera mini? I hope you like it
