Can someone explain this? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

I've got the HTC P3300 for a few months now. I wanted to upgrade to WM6, which I did. Everything is fine.
Now I want to downgrade to WM5 WWE, but it doesn't work.
My pda is not sim-locked, but it still fails. There are a lot of threads regarding this, so I wont ask this, but ..... What the h*ll is CID lock?
I have read a lot about this, but I don't understand. Where is it good for, why can I upgrade, but not downgrade?
Please, can someone explain this in a simple yet effective manner to me?
Hope to read soon,
With regards,
Ronald.

And bootloader?
oh, yes,
What is the bootloader mode? How do I get there, and what does it do?

If you want to know specific what CID is and why to run USPL, you should ask the master-mind behindt the prog. him selv (Clik on "USPL" further down.
If you have the correkt original ROM made for you unit it should not be a problem to run it without using USPL. But personally i use this genius lille flash (just in case) - Why take any chance
Follow thise instruction and it should go great
Hard reset your device
Run USPL - klik here for further explanation
Run upgrade / Downgrade

Here you can see hov to access bootloader..

I have downgraded my orbit easily after running USPL utility. This utlity is to temporary unlock the phone. Please try to downgrade or upgrade after this tool run to unlock CID
(The bootloader is invoked by pressing down the Power and Voicedialer buttons simultaneously, and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the left side. Continue pressing the two buttons for a few seconds after pressing and releasing the reset button until the bootloader screen appears)

just to point this out because a friend of mine misunderstood this: this wiki article shows both how to do a hard reset and also how to enter bootloader. you dont have to do a hard reset first to enter bootloader. just do what abshie wrote (even though i dont think pressing the power button is necessary).

You are right

I just mentioned the way to enter boot loader is because he asked for it.
No need to do anything in the bracket to upgrade or downgrade OS.
Just run USPL and you can easily do it.

you use the bootloader mode for... well, for upgrading and downgrading your ROM, for one thing!!!
you can always downgrade, but remember, first you must run the USPL each time you want to change your rom. then you won't have a problem. you don't even need to downgrade to your original rom, unless you bricked your device. but if you didn't brick it and you just want to change/downgrade your rom, just run USPL first then flash your device with your choice rom!

[TUT] HOW-TO restore Diamond to stock for warranty

Due to a hardware problem in my Diamond I needed to restore it to manufacturer default. I didn't find a guide to this and since I've done the research anyway I thought I'd put together this little tutorial as the information was somewhat scattered around the forum. I hope this guide will be of use for the community.
My phone was originally branded and sim-locked by 3. After I was through with it, it was SIM-unlocked, security unlocked and had HSPL, custom ROM and a radio ported from another device. The steps below is what I did to restore it to stock. All steps might not be neccessary for you. This procedure might also work for other devices than the Diamond, but of course you need other versions of SPL, ROM etc.
1. Backup everything on your phone to your computer - use activesync, PIMbackup etc and make a copy of your Internal Storage.
2. Make a hard reset (hold vol down + enter and soft reset) and chose to format moviNAND. This step is only neccessary if you want to wipe your Internal Storage before you send the device in for repair, but I recommend it.
3. Go to www.htc.com and download the latest stock ROM (includes stock radio and SPL). You find it under Support and you enter your s/n to get the correct stock ROM for your device, complete with branding for your operator. You can also find stock ROMS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471699
4. Flash the stock ROM. Now you have stock ROM and Radio on your device. Stock SPL will not be installed until you've replaced HSPL with an older stock SPL and flashed ROM again.
5. Get RUU-SSPL and stock SPL from HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2324829&postcount=39. I used the stock 1.93 SPL. Some instructions and info about restoring stock SPL is in the linked post by cmonex and due credit goes to her. I will repeat some of that info to keep this guide step-by-step. EDIT: Stock SPL 2.03 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3359191&postcount=390
6. Put the .nbh file from the SPL you downloaded into the same folder as the extracted contents of RUU-SSPL-withoutNBH.zip and run the RUU. This flashes an old stock SPL.
7. Flash your stock ROM from step 3 again. This step is neccessary to get the correct stock SPL on your device, eg. the one that corresponds with the stock ROM you've downloaded in step 3. It was not installed in step 4, because then you still had HSPL. In step 6 you've installed a stock SPL and now the correct stock SPL will flash along with the stock ROM. After this step I got SPL 2.03 on my Diamond.
8. Remove the Security Unlock from your device using the instructions and Security Relocker by Olinex from this post by cmonex: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3299516&postcount=492
Now, my Diamond is still SIM-unlocked. I have not managed to find any info about how to restore the SIM-lock, but it is hopefully not neccessary for warranty. As far as I can tell, the unlock doesn't show anywhere, but of course all they need to do is to try a SIM-card from another operator...
If anyone has info about how to restore SIM-lock, then I'll update this guide with that info.

I second that, it contains links to stock ROMs, that'll hopefully stop a million topics about it lol.
This does not work for me.. However i have a problem. the touch screen of my device is not working.. so i can't get pass the allign screen part .. and for somereason the ruu won't connect to phone when it is at tha part so i can't install the spl.. the only way i can do that i through bootloader and it flashes fine but when i then look in bootloader to see the spl it still shows 1.40 olinex..

You're right, I tried it too. Flashing SPL through bootloader doesn't work.
You can try using JumpSPL instead, I've attached it in this post. I don't think JumpSPL will require any screen prompts on your Diamond. You can read instructions.txt in the zip, but it's just really the .bat file so you get an idea of what it's doing. Run the .bat, press enter at the prompts and run the RUU for your stock SPL instead of HSPL when asked. At your own risk, I have not tried this myself.
where can i read more information about jumpspl, how it works and everything?

Look in the Xda-wiki, search and google, and not just in the Diamond section.

I have just tried it and it gets stuck where it should run the JumpSPL.exe on the device. After a few minutes it comes with an error:
"ERROR: CreateProcess failed with Errorcode = 30123
- UNKNOWNERROR: 0x000075ab"
This is not good I just think its wierd that because of a broken screen it is impossible for me to get the stock spl flashed back on.

Sorry to hear it and I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. After all, my little tutorial is primarily aimed at those whose Diamonds have working screens...
On another note, my Diamond came back from warranty repair and the repair shop had not noticed anything that would void my warranty. In the meantime I got myself a Topaz and now I've sold my Diamond, but I'll be checking this thread from time to time.
Hey thanks bro..!! I need to give mine for reparing..
I have a hardware problem with the reset button.. Do you think I should flash my diamond back to stock? (I don't think they'll check the software right?)

I would restore it to stock anyway. Some workshops actually look for excuses/reasons why the warranty won't apply so I say you'd definitly be taking a risk if you didn't.

Another idea: maybe you can find some a VNC program that also works the "other way" with windows mobile, so that you can get a window on your PC with the screen of your device?

If you manage to install ANY stock SPL and then flash the correct ROM for your country and operator then you automatically get the correct SPL too, since stock ROMs include SPL. If you go to htc.com and type in your s/n then you automatically get the latest ROM for your device and operator.

I only link to the SPLs provided by olipro and cmonex in the hard-SPL thread. If you need closer info about SPLs I suggest you ask there. I only tried to revert back to stock SPL 1.93 myself and it worked just like described in first post.
Thanks Op
Managed to restore it no problem, but took ages

Help in solving bootloader issue

Please I have a peculiar problem, I pray you can assist me. I tried to root my telus dhd using advanced hack kit, after running the hack kit the phone failed to reboot. It stock at a blank bLack screen. To solve that, I mistakenly flash a froyo pd98img on a GB ROM. Since then, the phone takes about 20 to 30 minutes to boot. It will start with a splash screen and vibrate for about 10 minutes then takes another 10 minutes to boot. The problem is I can't enter boot loader and I can't use the hack kit again to return to stock since the phone won't reboot in the process.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks for your time.
And why exactly can't you enter the bootloader? Remove and re-insert your battery, Press Vol Down and Power button to boot into the bootloader.
Can you post the text that appears on the bootloader? Is your phone S-OFF yet?

Yes, it's messed up bootloader. Yesterday on #ahksupport, @attn1 gave an adb command, which after typing it, The phone booted to a black screen with HTC on it. Then he gave me a link to a file which he ask me to paste in cmd window. But unfortunately he changed his mind due my inability to respond swiftly to his question.
I have found the PDF, will give it a try. Thanks
Update: This is the file uploaded to by @attn1 yesterday. I believe it's an extracted and unlocked bootloader. The only problem is that I don't know how to flash it. If anyone can assist me.

Ok, this is what you have to do. I sent you the pastebin link in the IRC channel yesterday but afterwards attn1 told me that that solution would not work in your case. You need to flash that HBOOT in this way:

that is normal as you don´t have a RUU in your phone. Does it still take long time to boot in hboot? from there you should be able to flash a RUU as that hboot supports multiple CIDs
I don't think it worked as he is still showing the .007 boot which is froyo.
Question why wouldn't your guide work in this case? Is it because of it being the nam version(pd12000 vs pd10000)? Hboot versions not interchangeable?or something else that as mentioned in the irc

Cannot access recover mode

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

I'm not too worried about getting a different rom on it, or rooting it or anything any more, currently I'd like to just put it back into a working state, as it was, probably locked to o2, if you've any suggestions on how to do that?

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.

I've unlocked the bootloader (although obviously I'm still S-ON and HBOOT 1.03), so how would I go about installing a custom recovery?
Everything I can find online implies I need to do it starting with the phone up and running...
Thanks

You download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28277117
You extract the recovery.img from it.
You then use fastboot to flash it:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

That worked spot on! Have you got anything you'd recommend I put on there now? (factory reset didn't do anything, didn't really expect it to)
I tried cyangenmod7 for the desire, but with no luck. File 'BAD' or somethign when tried to read it from the SD card.

Try a MildWild ROM. Maybe the CM7 download was somehow faulty.
Can ya post the link to the thread and not just post the PB99IMG file? Thanks

You're getting good at this
So, that's on and working, but it's still locked to the carrier, o2. I've just tried 'HTC Desire unlock v0.9.5' but that didn't work (despite the program telling me it went flawlessly).
Any more suggestions?

Nope, nada. I tried v0.94 too. Nothing again. I guess I'll need to get a key. Damn that hboot 1.03!
At least the phone is actually WORKING now though, thanks to you, appreciated.

HTC M9 won't boot after update - can't flash anything, factory reset or unlock bl..?!

Hey guys
got a HTC M9 with cid "O2___102" which won't boot up after stock update.
Phone was not modified yet.
1. Can't unlock bootloader (says: "(bootloader) [KillSwitch] Last Byte is 0X00, disable unlock") - so no way to install custom recovery + custom rom to revive
2. Can't boot into recovery (shows phone with a red exclamation mark but no menu) so no way to factory rest
3. can't find a matching RUU for the "O2___102" CID ...
PLEASE HELP =(
At the screen with the red triangle and exclamation mark, press and hold the power button. While holding the power button, quickly press and release the volume + button. If this gets you to recovery, try a factory reset.

I do believe if you can get to download mode you can do a factory nreset from there, if that will help you.

The UK ones for O2 can be used with the German O2 CID, too. You can find them for example in my Collection of Back-to-Stock Files or on androidRUU. But I'm not sure whether a downgrade from android 5.1 is possible with S-ON. The only confirmed downgrades with S-ON were from 1.32.XXX.15 to 1.32.XXX.8. And from my experiences with Denis Meissner and Amr Nasser I would say that a downgrade isn't possible with S-ON if the first and/or the second number of the actual firmware version differ from the ones of the firmware you want to downgrade to.

Can you flash twrp recovery? If you can, maybe you can flash a stock backup from someone else.

Yeah, would have suprised me if it worked. As said before even downgrading from 1.40.XXX.X to 1.32.XXX.X seems to be impossible with S-ON. How long did you actually wait until you thought that you phone doesn't boot? The update to android 5.1 and the first boot took around an hour for me. Maybe you just need to wait a little longer. If your phone was unlocked I would suggest you to flash TWRP and use one of my stock backups but...
The only other option I can see right now is trying to find someone who has a java card. With S-OFF you should be able to downgrade with the RUU. (If I remember correctly there were one or two shops advertising their java card services on Android-Hilfe.) This option may not be for free but it should still be cheaper than sending your phone to HTC's repair service or buying a new phone.

whats that java card you're talkin about? Never heard of that.
An appropiate RUU with the latest version should theoretically also work, right?
Problem ist that I cant flash anything custom because bootloader locked and I cant get inside the system to enable the bootloader unlock... =( and the thing has a visually broken volume up key for dropping down, so the htc support won't fix it (for free) I fear.. otherwise I would just give it to them since it has not been modified yet. (not my phone ..)
P.S:
OS Version is 2.10.206.2 - thats the latest one right?

Yes, 2.10.206.2 is the latest version for now. If there were a RUU with your firmware version then using it would be the easiest way to solve your problems. But as far as I know the only existing ones for O2 are for 1.32.206.6 and 1.32.206.15. But with S-OFF you would be able to use the older RUUs, too.
I never used a java card so my knowledge about this topic isn't that outstanding. I know that it is a small, SIM-Card-like looking thing that allows you to S-OFF your phone. Usually they cost several hundred euros/dollars and the number of times you can use them is limited. Since verizon blocks bootloader unlocking these cards are the only option if a verizon users wants to flash anything on his/her phone. Some German phone shops offered S-OFF by java card, too, before sunshine got updated for the M9. That's why I gave you the link to Android-Hilfe. (And that's actually all I know about that topic.)
i need this rru please any one have to uplode link
thanks
Just as an update, I recently bricked this phone trying to flash lineage to it. To fix it, I went to HTC.com and downloaded the current RUU and put the phone into download mode. I know some people say you don't need to "relock" the device, but I don't get errors during the installation with RUU when relocked. Plus, I am running with S-on.

Bootloader and s status are irrelevant. The phone will flash regardless.
