IPL-1.00 upgrade available now from the latest official WM6 Dopod! - P3600 ROM Development

ausdim (Senior Member) has extract the new version IPL-1.00 included in the latest WM6 Dopod ROM.
I've just upgrade my IPL-050 to IPL-1.00. No problem. Works fine.

Why would you update the ipl?
I mean what's the benefit ?

Why not?

And why not?
Older version was 0.50 and newest is 1.00.
That's all.
After upgrade IPL version 1.00, my Trinity work always fine.
Filicloe.

I said it before and I'll say it again, flashing the ipl is a un-needed risk, do not do it unless you need to or have a update-addiction problem. If anything goes wrong on the ipl flash there is NO WAY to recover... Better safe then sorry.

I already flash 3 Trinity: mine and two others. No problem. The upgrade IPL procedure is very fast (about 2 secunds).
Thanks again a lot at the senior member ausdim which extract the latest IPL version.
Dopod has release a new IPL version, and I think there is a reason. Why did they upgrade IPL? Only for the fun? It's not serious.
Now, my Trinity get the latest and official IPL, SPL (by Olipro) and Radio ROM.
Filicloe.

Hi,it's already included in the rom FR 3.1 cooking by Faman.

Yes. But I'm not using the ROM FAMAN 3.1.
See my signature below.
And this upgrade can be useful for those who are already in IPL-0.50 and want to change only the IPL Version (instead of flashing a complete ROM with IPL-SPL-RADIO ROM).
Filicloe.

Ok,I just give this information for 3.1 user's,so they don't need to flash with it if they don't know their IPL version.

what is the difference in versions guys??
why are we updating?

Difference between IPL-0.50 and IPL-1.00?

That's a very good question!
But NOBODY know which is (are) the difference(s) between the IPL-0.50 and IPL-1.0.
We can only be sure that's the newest version.

which is a good reason not to risk your device for no reason..

Exactly why NO ONE should flash this, maybe this ipl blocks the spl from being modified? Maybe you just implemented some other anti-rom changing code they have yet to turn on... Granted this is a extreme example and most likely not the case, but you have a working device, and are running non OEM roms, it's best to leave the ipl at what was working as it's the most dangerous flash possible on our devices.
More than likely the ipl update fixes a few rare scenarios which might need a reset and/or hard reset to fix the device.

Silly question i know... But what is the IPL for? what does it do?

- IPL :
the IPL (Initial Program Loader) with for role of all copying the contents of ROM SPL in RAM.
- SPL:
Once charged in RAM, the SPL (Secondary Program Loader) commonly called bootloader, charge the Radio ROM and OS in memory and to start the sequence of boot.
For the IPL and the SPL it is very strongly not recommended to update these ROM: for a majority of pda there are several versions of the internal components, and the updates are not compatible between different material because the sequences of starting are different. Moreover once the IPL and SPL upgraded, a return behind is not possible!

Dear Shadowmite
OK. Now I understand.
I will flash tomorrow morning the latest official HTC WM5 ROM (1.23.406.2) which restore the original IPL, SPL, RADIO, etc.
After that, I think my Trinity will not be yet SuperCID. No ?
So, are you agree with this procedure:
1- Remake my Trinity SuperCID with the Pof utility v1,
2- Flash SPL 1.30 Olipro
3- Flash Radio ROM 1.46.30.11
4- Update any WM6 ROM.
Please, tell me if this procedure is the best. (I'm sure that a lot of members of XDA-DEVELOPERS will be interested by your response)
Thanks by advance,
Filicloe.

WARNING about downgrading from WM6 LVSW Edition (2007-03-20)

Hey all,
I am posting this as an independent thread to be sure it gets some visibility. If an admin judges it should be put into the main LVSW thread, then he is welcome to move it within the LVSW thread. However I'm pretty sure I stumbled onto something that can prevent a lot of pain for some people.
Here is the scenario which occurred to three different people:
- SuperCID device.
- LVSW full version is installed with no problem => SPL 1.09
- Downgrade to any Official ROM using the provided normal RUU. Flashing goes 100% fine, not a single problem
- But upon reboot, we have a brick: Corrupted CID, SPL 1.09, No GSM, and depending on the Official ROM flashed KITL or no KITL (if the former, recoverable through hours of work with Platform Builder, if the later, unrecoverable). Since the flashing went 100% fine, that's weird, to say the least.
This same identical scenario has generated three bricks thus far:
- myself, repaired after a sleepless night spent on Platform Builder (my gratitude goes to Allan's most excellent post)
- lebogus, complete brick, no KITL, unrecoverable
- otto26, KITL, recoverable with Platform Builder
IMHO, three cases like that is too much to be a coincidence, especially after a 100% problem-free flashing of an official ROM.
Therefore, to anyone wishing to downgrade from a full version of LVSW (with SPL 1.09), he should make sure that before downgrading, he replaces the 1.09 SPL with Olipro's Hard-SPL to be sure that even if this scenario repeats itself, he doesn't have to go through Platform Builder.
I hope this thread won't be judged to be abusive and misplaced, if so I apologize.
Anyway maybe this will help someone.
Cheers

I don't think this thread abusive, but can help noob users. Really the HardSPL must convert in "the standar" for upgrading to WM6 in cooking. If someone cook any WM6 ROM, HardSPL must be part of package...
So thanks for your advice.

OK if so I'm sorry. It's just that three apparently successful flashings of official ROMs ending up in bricks look strange to me. Maybe it's theoretically impossible and it must mean that there was some external reason. But you have to admit that three times the same scenario within the last 2 days is an improbable coincidence.
I am not blaming lwvs by the way, his ROM is most excellent, I loved it, but needed to downgrade because of a problem I had with some of my software (WM6's fault, not lwvs's).
As said, maybe it's a completely external reason. Who knows? What I care about is that I noticed it happened following this scenario several times in a very short span. Make what you will out of it.
Just see it as a warning, and anyone is free to do as he or she wishes.
Cheers

Thanks for your work.. sure this help more than one...starting with me
I had exactly the same problem, going from lvsw to an older official wm5 rom.
All went fine, 100%, reboot and NO GSM.
Recovered with KITL.
@jpvdb Did you install OS only, or the full package?
Gotta ask, when downgrading to WM5 obviously this will flash a new SPL, Radio and OS to the device correct?? Because by the sounds of it people are using the full RUU package and not splitting into seperate nb files)
So firstly if it is 1.09 this WILL NOT be downgraded, and if the radio being flashed is of loader 0107 could this be the reason?
Since Most people now have a radio version with loader 0108 this might be the reason behind it??
If im GROSSLY incorrect please correct me right now (im after some of that olipro charm!!!! )

I've done the downgrade twice without any problem. I am now back to 3-20 version. In case it helps to identify the problem, I have used Hard-SPL every time and I have flashed the different components separately.
I stayed with radio 1.35.00.11 and I only flashed the different OSs (extracting them from original ROMs when needed). No problems at all.
New ROM download!
I have created a lvsw 3-20 that installs ONLY Oli's 1.13 BL and OS with Extra ROM Storage ONLY!
Get it from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/22731195/lvsw3-20.with.oli1.13.and.os.with.extra.ram.only.rar
** Please note, if you already have Oli's 1.13, choose 1.11 and HARD. **
** Thanks goes to the_passenger for creating the extra-ram version of the OS! Works like a champ on my two devices
@mrvanx: correct, we are talking about full upgrades and downgrades. Your point is pretty interesting by the way, and it seems that mfabre's case goes in the way of this theory. But indeed you should wait for Olipro's expert opinion

However, if you only installed the OS and have NOT installed lvsw's radio, this is a useless upgrade unless you want the increased ROM storage.

I think it is a tad premature to announce that there is a problem with the LVWS ROM sir. It is more than likely that the problems experienced are due to people trying to reflash an old SPL, and a radio with loader 0107 (which CANNOT be downgraded).
I would recommend removing the line from your sig since we have only reports of THREE cases of this happening. We dont want to cause alarm to people who have been running this ROM without any problems.

Problem Installation Wm6

Did you fallow the instruction carefully? Did you do hard Spl?
Now you flash back you original rom and do Hard Spl first http://server2.dimonvideo.ru/uploads/public/users/lvsw/Trinity/HardSPL/Hard-SPL.zip then do what ever you want.
Its the bug that occurs with Olipro's Hard-SPL in combination with images made with the tadzio toolkit. Olipro won't fix it because he blames tadzio.
However it works fine with DES's Hard-SPL, at least I never had complaints about my Roms with it.
So I recommend:
- enter bootloader
- flash any OS not made with tadzio
- install DES Hard-SPL
- reflash (without flashing Olipro's Hard-SPL)

Do some more homework first dude, you dont wanna end up with a paperweight......ALWAYS make sure you have flashed HardSPL before you do ANYTHING.
Take a peek here about what to do: Flashing HardSPL. Then flash away with any ROM you please.
Done a lot of lookin but everything I look at doesn't state anything about the 2.03 version all I want to do is U/grade to CRC's Cooked version, is there a how to incl 2.03 ???? I can't find one

seriously....you DO NOT need/want to be using SPL 2.03....you are increasing the risk of bricking your device...flash hardspl 2.10 to your device then just flash CRCs rom using the utility included with it.
Follow the guide i posted earlier to make your device safe to flash then look in CRCs thread for the files you need to run the ROM.
Bongo333, listen to MrVanx.... You asked the question and he's giving you his expert opinion... Listen to his experience cos god knows his guides have helped me out a lot of times...We don't wanna be answering questions tomorrow about how to unbrick your hermes. Its easier if you listen to experience and have a good time upgading your hermes as we won't knowingly steer you wrong..

[UPG]HardSPLs 1.23, 1.24 and 1.34

Those who have troubles with other HardSPL versions can give the attached 1.23 (shipped), 1.24 (mfg), 1.34 (shipped) HardSPLs a try.
To flash any of these, first establish an activesync connection via usb. Then run diamond-sspl.bat and confirm execution on touchscreen. The screen will turn black. Now run DiamondCustomRUU from either the HardSPL-1.23, HardSPL-1.24 or HardSPL-1.34 folder.
I have tested these versions on my diamond and did not have any issues with them. I prefer 1.24 because it is a mfg spl. A mfg spl includes additional commands for the manufacturer (htc) to test a device as opposed to the shipped spl which is installed on stock devices.
A particular spl may fix bugs, may be needed to support new hardware (e.g. lcd or touchscreen) or is required to optimally support a particular version of the OS and/or radio. Only try another spl if you have issues with your currently installed one. If you have no issues then don't flash another spl.

Thanks for the quick answer. It explained everything that i needed to know.
so many hard-spls, so little time
k sorry this sounds so noobish but i've never seen so many hard-spl's in one forum before ha..
so you're basically saying if people are having trouble flashing with the other hard-spl (do you have any explanation as to why this is?) they should just try each of these and see which one works?
i guess what i'm wondering is why would 1.23hard-spl work better for someone than 1.34? what i'm guessing right now is, 1.24 is MFG so should work better in most instances, but technically the best 'fit' would be a hard-spl based on your shipped spl?

There are official WM6 roms out there for the P3600i ... and plenty of non-official (but very good) WM6.1 and WM6.5 roms for P3600i too.
eg:
Official WM6 (Aus WWE) Trinity_HTC_WWE_3.00.707.18_Radio_1.46.30.11
Just don't install any roms that are for other phones
If you are going to install any cooked (non-official) roms just make sure you really have a P3600i and not a standard Trinity (the "i" model will have 256M of Storage Memory). There are different roms for P3600i and Trinity.
But please ... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ... Install HardSPL before you try and put _any_ rom on there!

Yeah It's real. Pretty sure it is the rom that my p3600i actually came with (I know it already had WM6 on it when I bought it).
It contains a Radio Update also, but it is primarily a ROM update.
The Trinity shipped with WM5 but there were offcial WM6 updates for that too.
Have you confirmed which model you have yet? What is you total Storage Memory size?

ram size 64 mb
flash size 128 mb
data bus 32 bits
storage size 62.86 mb
display 240x320
65536 colors
actually I'm using rubenalf 's supersport translation of win 6.5...sometimes soft reset becames hard reset, and in the latest month tom tom gives graphic problems-
- I'd like to really format everything, but mtty procedure isn't enough maybe...!
so if I try using this old official rom for some days, maybe my trin will rise again....

You have a TRINITY not a P3600i.
You need to use SuperSport's HardSPL guide and not the one I gave you.
You are free to use pretty much any of the Official WM6 roms that are out there.
Hi!
I didn´t know that the P3600i had more memory. As I understood it the P3600 and the P3600i was the same but the "i" had the GPS enabled from start.....
Now, i have a P3600, any links to official HTC win6 ROM anyone?

This is the Official OEM WM6 with GPS Enabled. It also includes the SPL, OEM Boot Screens, and Radio 1.46.30.11. If you plan to flash other ROMS after installing this one, be sure to flash Hard SPL Back on. This Flash overwrites HardSPL. This ROM can also be used so you can return your phone for warranty repairs (although I doubt there are any warranties on these still).

PS: Occasionally, I flash this ROM just to clean things up again, and it's sorta nice to run it for a day or so. Very fast and works without problems. I just end up missing the WM6.5 features, so I start flashing again.

Just a quick clarification, the P3600i had more storage (which is technically a kind of flash memory).
Sorry but I have to take every opportunity to beat to death this "P3600i has more RAM" myth that plagues the Trinity forum
Thanks!! I´m a total noob when it comes to ROM upgrading. All I want is a working official win6 or win6.1 ROM, preferably SVE but WWE will also be nice.
Again, Thanks to all helpful people out here!
Hi again SuperSport!
I tried the Dopod Asia ROM but got an "invalid vendor" error so I put my original win5 ROM back in....Do I need to change the SPL?

Maybe someone can confirm this for me, but I believe that is exactly what is needed. I am on my phone now, so no link, but be sure you have HardSPL 1.20, and also be sure to enter into Tri-Color screen mode before flashing.
Yeah, the standard SPL is locked to region (SVE), ModelID (TRIN***) and sometimes even Carrier vendor, regarding what ROMs that it will allow you to install.
Even though it is an official OEM 6.1 rom you will definitely need to Hard SPL on there to be able to flash that WWE rom.
As usual, all I can say is ... why wouldn't you install HardSPL?
It is purely an improvement on the original SPL, which provides you the safety of flashing directly from the the Tri-color screen.
Successful ROM upgrading
Hi Decoy and SuperSport!
Thanks tou You guys i dared to try the "FInixNOver_3.6_Normal_Black" WM6.1 ROM.
I was still not able to use the DopodAsian WM6 ROM due to the error "invalid device vendor", but it might be me unsecure in using Olipro HardSpl.
-If i would like to restore SVE WM5.0 ROM back to the device I must install Olipro HardSpl again since it´s overwritten, right?

If you installed HardSPL and then only flashed FInixNOver, then HardSPL is still on your device. If you've flashed an OEM ROM onto your phone, then HardSPL has been overwritten.
With that in mind, if you are going to flash an OEM SVE ROM back onto your phone, then you don't need HardSPL on it because the OEM ROM would in fact write OEM SPL over it anyways.
To verify if you still have a HardSPL installed, enter into bootloader screen and see what is listed there.
To check which SPL is on your device:
*** Enter Tri Color Screen ***
--Hold down the Power & Camera Buttons
--While still holding them down, press the Reset Button using the Stylus
--Release the Reset Button, but continue to hold the Power/Camera buttons until you see the Tri Color Screen.
If you see 1.30.Olipro, 1.20.Olipro, or 9.99 CP, then you already have Hard-SPL on your device. I recommend 1.20 or 1.30 Olipro. To go back to your phone, press the reset button again using your stylus.
To repeat what the.Decoy said before. Please don't try flashing 'Custom' ROMs without having HardSPL installed. It can render you phone unusable. If you are only flashing OEM STOCK ROMs, then you are fine.
