It's official, no WM6 upgades for T-Mobile customers! - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi there, I joined T-Mobile UK about a month ago because it is the only network with a reasonable "unlimited" data tariff.
Given that all of the other suppliers have been releasing WM6 upgrades for the current batch of HTC based phones, I was expecting T-Mobile to do the same. Sadly, I was mistaken as you can see from the official response I've just received from them.
If you are a T-Mobile user, I would recommend that you email them directly - perhaps if enough people complain, they might change their minds - it can't be that hard since it looks like HTC do most of the work!

Thanks for your emaI Julian, asking when a Window Mobile 6 upgrade will be available for your phone.
I realise that this is important to you and I'm pleased you've emailed me to help.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid that we will not be releasing a upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 for your phone. We have decided that bringing in new MDA devices that make best use of the features of Windows Mobile 6 is a better use of our resources than rolling it out on existing devices which already work well with Windows Mobile 5.
I realise this is disappointing however, I'm pleased to tell you that we'll be including Windows Mobile 6 on all new MDA devices that are launched. This will be starting with the MDA Touch and MDA Vario III in September.
Once again, I'm sorry for the upset this may cause and I hope I've explained things clearly for you today.
Thanks for taking the time to email me Julian. I hope you continue to enjoy using your T-Mobile phone.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reply to this email or you may find the help you need by visiting http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=faqPage.
Kind regards
Lindsay

Messaging and Security Feature Pack

Does anyone have information on when the MS Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5 will be released and in what form?
MS say it will only be released to Mobile operators and Mobile Device OEMs, but no Mobile Operator or OEM I have spoken to has even heard of it let alone if they will make it available on new devices or as an upgrade to existing customers.
Orange UK assured me that they would make all upgrades released to them available. While O2 hinted at quite the opposite (would mean competition with thier beloved blackberry).
T-Mobile said all free upgrades would be available through HTC, but as yet I've been unable to get a number where I can speak to someone at HTC and confirm.
Any Info much appreciated.

o2's xda orbit WM6 upgrade response

Good afternoon Paul,
Thank you for your email.
O2-UK are currently testing the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade and until this has passed all tests then unfortunately we will not be able to advise you when the upgrade will be released.
We are also unable to advise of features involved in this upgrade as this may be subject to change, dependant upon the tests.
If you have any further problems, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards

Subject: o2 xda orbit upgrade for windows mobile 6.0
Hi, I am emailing due the release of the WM6.0 rom released via o2 Germany, and I was wondering when o2-uk will be offering the same.
I am eagerly awaiting this rom update for my new xda orbit device.
Also are your technical support team able to offer any information on any new features of the update and whether O2 active will be included in this build.
Cheers.
Paul

i just got a reply from a nice chap at o2, hopefully soon we will get our free upgrade.
i tried to get info on what will be released/new feature on wm6 for our device.but allas no joy...
hopefully they will let me test future roms etc!!
Thats a far more in depth response than I got when I asked them. All I was told was that they can't give a date and to keep checking the website for further information. Only problem is since o2's uk website is so rubbish I've not found anywhere relating to support downloads for devices!

When they finally get their act together, there will probably be another tab called 'software updates' added to the 'I've already got an Orbit' page. This has been the case with other devices, although they all had the launch ROM available on the site too, which is not the case with the Orbit.
Another in depth response from O2 UK - this is what I got from them yesterday:
Good Afternoon
Thank you for your e-mail.
We will be launching the WM 6 update for the Orbit, but unfortunately we cannot provide a specific date to you due to confidentiality.
We do believe this update will be provided during the summer period.
If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards

Confidentiality from who? Customers?
Sounds like the staff at o2 are as in the dark as the customers! The information probably hasn't filtered down to the help desks yet so they're all giving their own version of events. Either that or they're telling us different stories on purpose to confuse us all!
I would go for the different stories theory. The reply i received was that they (O2) had no intention of releasing a free WM6 update as this OS was designed for new hardware and not backwards compatible.
I think O2 should get their act together. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing.
Hope it comes out soon. Time will tell.
I just received a call from O2, following up an enquiry on wm6 upgrade on orbit at their site www.my-xda.com. They said that nothing can be said at the moment but has asked me to enquire next month and they would have a definite answer on the matter.

O2 Orbit WM6 upgrade

Unfortunately we have no timescales as to release, but details when available, pending accreditation, will be posted on our XDA web site www.my-xda.com
Sorry we cannot be more precise with our answer, but if you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

A reply from HTC Europe. Really hope it's begin June when they release it

Orange!

Does anyone else find Orange's email customer service enfuriating? I find they never actually read the whole email, just the first two lines. I was just enquiring about the Touch Pro2, whether it was replacing the discontinued Tohttp://forum.xda-developers.com/newthread.php?do=postthread&f=488uch HD and whether they had a release date in mind. Unfortunately before writing that I mentioned my contract was coming to and end and this was the reason I wanted to know about the phone.
Does anyone have any insight into the date of this phone release? I asked two weeks ago and a nice woman said she'd text me with any information and that it would be out within the next two weeks.
Then I rang yesterday and I was told there were never any plans to release the Touch Pro2 but that they were going to release the Diamond2. Just now I've had a reply stating
I am awfully sorry to advise that unfortunately this model is currently not available on Orange on the personal accounts and I am currently unable to confirm if and when it will become available on the Orange network.
I am able to confirm that HTC Touch Pro 2 phone is due to be released to Small Business customers only.

I want to change mobile provider but I wait the branded TP2 to have nice price offer...

Official word from Microsoft is Mango will start rolling out between September 26th and October 9th.
Vodafone Australia
Optus
Telstra
Telus
Bell
O2 Germany
Deutsche Telekom
SFR France
Orange France
O2 UK
Other information as follow:
AT&T to start rollout on September 27th for HTC Surround, LG Quantum and Samsung Focus Rev. v1.3 (supposedly as there's no official word directly from AT&T to consumers)
have not deployed on telstra yet
Talked to O2 in UK and they just say they cannot say anything about it. Useless company and useless staff.
Oh Oh Oh, I have confirmation from "3" UK that they are..doing absolutely..nothing. That was 3 days ago.
I did post this in another thread but I think it got ignored because of countless "WHERES MY UPDATE" posts.
Give my email address to /b/ and I will kill all of you.

If no one posted, then call them up to see if you can find any info, that's what everyone else is doing...
I heard some, probably not accurate, stuff, that AT&T should be rolling out Mango on day 1, which _could_ be as soon as Monday. But don't believe me, it might be HOAX.
Oh and Windows Phone CZ on Facebook asked if we are preparing for Mango update in upcoming DAYS
AT&T said, "AT&T will be among the first to offer the Windows Phone Mango update to its leading portfolio of Windows Phones this fall." Not sure if that means you can get it on day 1.
