Just a little mod to attach artemis to handlebar of bicycle - P3300, MDA Compact III Accessories

I think this is a cool mod i've made up using one of these -

And one of these
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5...ryZ62132QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
a couple of M3x15, and nuts and washers, (replace the bottle allen key bolts) and 1 M4X10 (replace the handlebar clamp to bottlemount), all counter sunk and i created one of these:-
(It wasnt designed to be waterproof etc, just perfect for a sunday afternoon ride, with the help of the phones GPS)

Nice. Got some more pics of how you mounted the case to the mount? I've been looking for something like this when i go riding at trails I don't really know well.

Hi,
If you want a waterproof case get one of these.
Cable tied to stem, keeps phone dry and protects from over enthusastic rider/lack of skill issues
and
Do a search for Boxit waterproof case. You can also get a proper bike mount for it but I prefer the cable tie method.
Regards

Here is a closer look at the underside, ive cut a corner away to fit an external GPS aerial, and the damage next to that is just where i screwed an M3 allen bolt throgh where you screw in the belt clip and it has pinched and twisted the flat bolt thread that had been glued there

limp brodit

anyone else found that the Brodit 'active' car holder for the universal is next to useless now that the weather is getting warmer ?
i.e. the rotating ball has become loose after only having it for a few weeks and minimal use, and it doesn't support the weight of pda.
just curious if it is only mine - and i'll have to superglue the rotating ball into one position, or its a common prob and other people should avoid getting the same car holder.
The Brodit holder is attached to the "universal" goosebeck suction mount from mobilefun, which was fine for holding a xda2i - but the rotating ball on the gooseneck is even looser and has already been superglued since it cannot support weight of the active holder+xdaExec
Funny you should say that. I bought a brodit holder about 3 weeks ago for my MDA Pro, It's a great product, but I now carry a screwdriver in the car to tighten the ball socket up against the backing plate every now and then.
I've also noticed the hot weather has made a big difference in the performance of the mount.
I have not noticed it yet, but it is a worry I have had. Since I don't need to use the swivel, when it finally does get loose, I probably will just position the swivel where I want it, tighten the screw as much as i can, and then put glue around swivel mechanism.
how to tighten the ball-joint
I've also found that the mechanism isnt supporting the weight anymore, when i put my mda in the position i want, it slowly sags down until it rests on the dashboard... very anoying!
I looked if i could fasten the ball-joint again, but i cant reach it since at one side the gooseneck is stuck on it, and at the otherside the actual holder is attached with a sticker.
so i cant get either side loose in such a way that i can stick it back on again..
or am i missing something here?
is my brodit holder that much different than yours? because this seemed to be the only way to connect the parts, using the supplied dual-side stickers.
Hmm. Looking at the clip that holds the phone, you should see a deep hole in the middle of it. The screww to tighten the ball joint is in that hole. See the bottom right picture in this set, and you will see the hole:
http://www.brodit.com/news.jsp?path=static/news/int/051101.html
Maybe the is a sticker covering the hole?
Hi All,
The sticker is on the back of the tilt and swivel plate (the part that detaches - to be fitted to the proclip or gooseneck)
It would be a good idea to check that the sticker that covers the bolt is in place and that the bolt is alligned correctly and firmly in place.
Then as kindly mentioned in previous post, relocate the holder and its central large screw into the back plate and ensure it is tighted well.
I have not had any complaints on this myself, but I shall drop a note to Brodit about this to ask if they have had any other issues with the tilt and swivel mechanism.
I have to say im alarmed though to read this, Brodit gear is usually recogised as the best quality holder available.
Thanks all,
Bryson
I already worked around the problem by just bending the goosneck in such a way that it wasnt a problem that the ball-joint was in its lowest position.
But yesterday i had the time to look into this again.
indeed, there is a deep hole which gives access to the screw in the ball-joint.
problem solved...
feel kinda stupid though...
a/ i didnt notice the screw in that hole myself
b/ i wasted a month before i accepted the advice given on this forum..
but thanks anyway, my brodit is now as good as new!

car mount for cold weather

I live in canada, and therefore, have to deal with below freezing temps. The issue I have right now is trying to find a car mount that does not utilize that cheap plastic tab in the middle of the sgs2 to hold it in the mount. I have purchased 2 different types on ebay, and both have had that tab snap off due to the cold weather making the plastic brittle. Does anyone know of a product somewhere that has that clip either on a spring hinge, and one that uses a metal clip that wont break in cold weather?

I used to own a classic Mini, anyone that has owned one will tell you there is not really any protection inside unlike a modern car.
I used a exogear - exomount in it over winter (-6c for a week was the lowest where I live) and no cracking/snapping or loss of suction.
Its a really great mount, someone posted up about it in here somewhere and Ive loved it ever since.
Here, in Poland, i had a maybe similar issue, the temperatures get from freezing cold to melting hot, always any holder gets broken or just falls off from the window due to the temperatures deforming the sucker. Now im using a Spiderpodium and i can totally reccomend it, if you got a vent near enough to allow you to see the screen without any trouble then that might do the job for you. As an additional pros the vent with air conditioning keeps the phone cool all the time. About a traditional car mount then you could maybe try a universal mount, phone doesnt need to be squeezed into such so there are zero parts that could break off.
Hi,
im using this product ordered from eBay, this is by far the best holder i had, and i tried about 4:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-C...685656?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item27c9391418
didn't try it in a cold weather. i live in Israel and i bought this product this summer. during summer the temperatures can get to close to 40 degrees in the place i live (probably higher inside the car).
in a few occasions my car was in direct sunlight all noon, when i got back to the car the suction cup was a little bit loose, but after a few moments when the car cools down the suction cup is strong again.
it can be rotated 360 degrees, it doesn't wobble and make noise during driving and the suction cup is very strong, never fell of the windshield.
Why not get a proper mount for your phone ? I'm using a Brodit one and it's very tough even when offroading (not mounted on windscreen, but mounted with screws). It fits and holds the phone just great.
All variants for the S2 are here, there's even an adjustable one in case you use a skin case.

[How2] DIY Bike Mount, cheap, quick and dirty

Hello,
many of you may know the problem. You need a good bike mount for your Nexus 5 which has to be:
- reliable
- durable
- has to offer a tight fit
- hold your phone safe, no matter how risky you may ride your bike
- has to be able to be used with ANY case
Well, sounds quite impossible ? There are some cheap, generic bike mounts made out of cheap plastic which may break if you just stare at them
I want to show you my idea of creating a durable, functional bike mount for your phone. It may not be the best looking on earth but it is made from the scratch out of spare material and without any special tools.
The tools you may need:
- Dremel or similar clone
- Drilling machine
- Sanding paper
Needed materials are up to you
Ok, here are some pictures of how such a mount may look like. I´m sorry for the bad quality, I´ve used my Nexus 7 cam for shooting them which somehow makes me look like a "padhole" .
My bike mount can hold a Nexus 5 + a Spigen Slim Armor case. Since I owned 2 TPU inlays, I´ve used the defective one as a damper. Well, much better than just throw it away
I´ll add some more pictures with the bike mount attached on my bike later. Just in case you´ve wondered if you could still use the USB port and the built in microphone and speaker, I´ve also cut the openings on the bottom
What´s the point of building a bike mount ? If you get lost, you can use your phone as a navigation device, this was the main goal

S4 Active car/ bike/ Motorcycle holder (dedicated)

Hi all,
just e tip: a dedicated carholder for this phone is ahrd to find and a little expensive if i'm honest.
if you search for a dedicated carholder form LG G2 on Ebay or such, this will do just aswell. mind you, with a little creative puzzling.
the size between these phones is comparable....not EXACTLY the same.
i've taken a light and heated the corners and the 'clipping and unclipping thingy' without the phone in it one by one.
After heating, fitted the phone in and pressen on the each corner-part and pushed the holder around it.
It fits pretty good and will not snap out easliy.
be careful after applying a heat source......ths plastic can be VERY HOT. insert phone and press it onto a surface.
no promises on the result ofocurse.....just thought i'd share it........
I just wanted to add that I went a different direction with this, and it works great.
I bought a http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Samsung-Galaxy-Active-Unicorn/dp/B00DY2SEFE
Then I bought the quadlock mounts
The adapter for the phone
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/universal-adapter
then bought the bike mount
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/quad-lock-bar-mount-pro
and car mount
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/quad-lock-car-mount
I attached the universal adapter to the back of my phone (easy easy compared to the otterbox stuff out there, since unicorn beatle case is uniformly flat already, it is why i chose it)
Now i attach it to my bike/car when I need to, and it doesnt make it too much bulkier. I actually have 2 cases, one with and one without the adapter, and I switch them out if I am going to go biking, or on a long trip where I might use the GPS.
there are really stable BikeMounts from Upmove:

Best universal car suction mount for < $20

Hi guys,
I've gone through a few generic mounts of eBay and unfortunately none have lasted me more than a few months. I've tried the design that consists of the round suction area and round mount, and the cheap claw style mount.
I know there must be a perfect one out there. What I'd like is one that has minimal vibration, strong suction, great build quality and NFC would be a nice bonus.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
What exactly has failed with the previous mounts?
surprising nobody responded to this one, anybody got a good experience with mounts?
I asked for more details about his previous experiences, without any reason... What else could I have said more? Maybe you, @sam008 could add something and we could continue the discussion from there.
PS: I have some experience with mounts.
Well the issue I've had and most people see as well is the suction has a very short life. In a few months, when driving, the phone just falls off and you have to re-attach it
That behaviour is rather normal. It's rather hard to create a plastic (rubber, silicone or whatever it is) that can resist in the sun. Even the suction cup that came with a Garmin (which might be considered above generic suction cups) fell down after a few weeks. Imagine that that suction cup is constantly pulled on and the longer the arm (I've seen 20-30 cm or almost one foot long arms) the worse it is. Not to mention that the phone will balance more.
That is why I tend to avoid suction cups and prefer vent or CD slot mounted holders, with as short as possible arms.
Vent mounted holders also have the advantage that during summer the phone will be cooled down by the car's A/C.
One of these days I'll come back with a few opinions about what I tried until now.
Even my iOttie dock couldn't handle the Texas heat! Not only did it keep falling off, whatever the suction cup is made of came apart and left a sticky goo all over my windshield. Now I use a CD mount that is below the dash and gets cold AC blown on it to help keep the phone cool.
At first I used a cheap suction cup holder. It was OK, but the phone was a little bit too far away from me. It used to fall every now and then, but not too often. But then again, Eastern Europe is not Texas. Some venting would have been welcome anyway.
Then I used a CD slot holder. It was pretty OK, A/C was blowing on the back of the phone (small clamp). But it used to resonate sometimes with the car at around 110 km/h.
Then I switched cars and broke the CD slot holder so I could use a vent holder and I did. The clamp is a bit big on this one, so the A/C is not that efficient, but it goes. Actually this one is made up of two holders, the clamp from one and the claws (that go in the vent) from another.
I tried a very small one for a few minutes (bought it from a mall and promptly returned it after I tried it in the parking lot) but it looks like it doesn't even have a chance of being stable.
Now I am using the amazon bought combo, but I might switch back to CD vent.
The linked pictures are as example only. The amazon links are the actual products.
In the end I recommend something that can easily enjoy the A/C and with a very short arm. Be careful that some car brands (like my old Fiesta) don't allow the air flow to be turned off while the vent's fins are used for the phone holder.
