Garmin Nuvi 360 - As Bluetooth Car Kit - General Accessories

Originaly posted this in the Nike Accessory section, but this device has worked on a couple of my phones so I thought it would be great to post here a well. I decided to write this post after testing for two weeks to make sure my excitement has held up to the initial expectations and to see if any woes present itself. So far I stand by my initial comment; this is the best Windows Mobile accessory I have found to date.
I originally bought this device as a GPS for my car and thought the bluetooth capability would be an added bonus. The handsfree capability of this device is by far the most impressive use of bluetooth I have seen. I have only tested this on the HTC Touch Dual 20 Key (Nike), compatibility and functionality may vary for other devices. So far no real problems; it connects, it works as stated and quite well too.
Highlighted capbilites in order of importance/functionality (to me):
(see screen shots for examples)
Handsfree Bluetooth carkit
Phonebook retrieval with Spell/Search Function
(dynamicaly uses phone address book not programed GPS contacts)
On Screen Dailer/Phone Pad.
Incoming Call Notification (image shows number but also displays name)
Call History (From phone, not GPS)
Phone Status (Signal/Battery)
Loud Speaker
Great Mic w/External Mic hookup
Voice Comand/Dail Compatible
General use description - Use images below for reference:
Device connects within 6-20 seconds after initial GPS bootup(about 20 seconds)
When calls come in there is an easy to use screen with Answer or Ignore option.
To make calls goto the main screen, press phone icon and select either phonebook where you can spell name and it will narrow down, or you can voice dail or use your call records or look up Point of interest and select dail from the results.
Call options let you pull up the dailer, mute the phone or transfer audio back to the phone while you are in a call. You can navigate while in a call, press the red call status button in the map mode to to see the status or end a call quickly.
I have so much more to tell you about but I will leave with this and for anybody to ask questions.
Like everything in the world there are always flaws or downsides. Here are a few (not necisarily flaws but fixes that would have made it better)
I listed voice dail last because the use is great but the audio feedback/voice prompt is quiet and I felt was least usefull in comparison to the other features. (using MS Voice Command 1.6) Voice recognition works great with the Nike but it requres a few key presses to initiate through the on screen buttons.
This GPS can send and receive text messages and read incoming aloud but this feature is not compatible with this phone. Maybe we could fix this another time friends!
Slow Device Bootup (20 secs), but fast paring most times after bootup. I have this device permanetly mounted and the slow boot doesnt bother me ever; its rare when I get a call before I can even pull out of the garage but If I do it will connect within seconds.
Thats all for now but if your interested this device retailed for about 600usd, I got mine on clearance for about 350usd.
Have a good one

How do you get Voice Command 1.6 to respond? I have a Nuvi 680 and Tilt but nothing happens when I press Voice Dial.

Bluetooth headset button solution?

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have a solution for the problem that the call button on bluetooth headsets won't work anymore with the TP2?
I use it in combination with Voice Command which worked flawlessly with the Touch Diamond, it's also been set to the same (and only) hardware key as the diamond but it won't work on the headset!?
It works fine when you press and hold the call button on the phone though...?
thanks!

When you say it works fine, do you mean through the BT headset, or just through the speakerphone?
P.S. I had an opportunity to talk with someone at Microsoft, and the response I received was "it's a known problem" and "wait for the next update or next version".
Alas...
i've edited it..
Strange problem cause the diamond had the same windows mobile version?

It's nothing to do with the WinMo version, it's a different BT Stack.
I have been playing with it today and will post an update in the tweaks thread once I have it patched.
Cheers,
Beasty
Its not the BT Connection with a headset in general. That function works fine. I've tested it with my bt headset. Pressing the button I can accept the call and/or redial.
The problem lies within Voice Command itself. Once installed it gets assigned to the one and only hardware button configurable (hold call button for 3 seconds). The problem with that is when I do that with my BT headsets (normal and motorcycle one). They get powered off by pressing them for 3 seconds (same button). xD
I disabled Voice Command though due to the ringtone volume bug. Every 2 seconds the ringtone gets low for an announcement that you don't hear. Still waiting for a proper fix without all the work of replacing files.
I was looking for the original voice dialing function. But it really isn't there on the TP2. Voice Command is much better though. But damn that bug.

Sorry to disappoint you chrix, but the same hardware button (also hold) is used with the Touch Diamond.
Like I said they both look the same but with the TP2 it doesn't work, i'll be looking out for your patch beasty!
Another suffering TP2 user!
Hi guys,
I am also suffering with this issue as well. I did try and see if an old registry hack worked (changing HKLM\Software\OEM\VoiceCommand path=\Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCmd.exe) but it didn't unfortunately. As previously pointed out in this forum, I think that this issue is more down to the fact that HTC seemed to have replaced the Bluetooth stack with their own proprietary version which isn't bad by all accounts, but does seem to lack this functionality. I might try and contact them to see if there's an update to resolve this but if someone does manage to create a patch for it, I'm sure there's a number of us who would be interested!
Cheers,
Barry
I installed voice command as well.
I'd already used the send button to put my lock on so it gave me another button (see attached).
Any body Know where the button is.

Question to those using phone for GPS

I'm sorry if this has been asked in the past, but I was wondering what happens to your navigation screen when a phone call comes in or when you need to place a call? Now it would be nice not to be doing several things at one time, but if a call comes in while you are trying to navigate, doesn't the call menu come on screen? How do you suppress that? Just wondering as I am looking to get a TP2 via AT&T. Thanks.
Dunno about other kit, but my copy of TomTom6 produces a popup on my iPAQ hw6915, and all I hace to do is answer the call (I use a BT headset with it when driving to stay roadsade as much as possible). The voice directions from TomTom remain muted while the call is in progress, by the way.
hi
While using GPS (GARMIN XT), the phone screen appears in case of incoming call.
I always use my bluetooth earphones while using GPS.
GPS voice will be thru the speaker and call on bluetooth.
After the call, the screen turns back the the GPS view automatically.

Issue with Jawbone Prime and TP2

Hi,
I wanted everybody to be aware of this issue.
When you use a Jawbone Prime with TouchPro2, on every other handset, you can disconnect the call on Jawbone by pressing the send/end key on the Jawbone.
This function of using the end key on the Jawbone does not work on the Telus TouchPro2.
I have gone through troubleshooting with Jawbone, still have same issue.
HTC sort of seems to be aware and will not troubleshoot.
Telus Data support were useless, no troubleshooting.
I believe this may be just an issue on Telus model, HTC was not aware of issues with T Mobile version or European versions.
I will also post to PPC Geeks and XDA developers as well.
Does anyone have a solution/reg edit that will solve this issue?
Dave
same issues w. verizon tp2 and jb prime
verizon tp2. unable to end call from jb prime. voice command, volume toggle, last call commands all work from jb prime. Just can't end a call from headset...
VZW TP2 has many BT Handsfree Bugs
Have similar problems with 2 Motorola headsets and Jawbone on VZW TP2. BT Handsfree has many issues --
1) cannot end calls from headset
2) cannot consistently access voice command.
3) Voice command reads sms and email headers aloud over the handset speaker when set to speak to BT headset only.
4) Dialer touch tones come out of phone speaker instead of headset.
5) Touch screen numeric pad goes blank after ~1minute on a BT handsfree call.
6) And then there is the irritating alert that BT headset disconnected so I should put the phone to my ear -- as if I didnt know I shut the thing off myself or could no longer hear a call! I wish at least that alert could automatically clear after 5 seconds.
I filed a support request for 1-5 with VZW earlier today. Forgot about #6 until moments after I ended the call and turned off the headset. VZW rep gave me HTC Tech Support phone number. Will call them Monday AM!
I had no issue using the JB2 on TMO. I just ordered the JB PRIME and i am helping its the same.
I'm having the same issue with the HTC Ozone. No call/end button, no redial, and no voice command. However, if I reboot the phone, everything works just fine! But then, almost at random, it just stops working again... Any ideas??
If this is anything like my aging Hermes I wouldn't expect a fix from HTC ever
Its depressing to know 3 years later it still seems impossible to get a phone with working ms vc and the kicker is this phone comes with it.

[WM6.5.1] Am I the only one who needs a keypad when answering calls?

I have an intercom in my building that is routed to my cell phone. I need to press number to open the door. In the latest builds of 6.5.1, when I receive a call, the option to show the keypad does not appear and no hardware buttons seems to trigger it either .
Is there a setting or registry key somewhere to force the keypad to appear also when receiving calls?
Also, when making call, is there any specific registry keys that control the screen turning on and off during call that I could control? I can understand the problem of having the screen active while the phone is on the hear, but I find it very annoying to have the screen turning off automatically while im answering questions from, i don't know if you remember the time, when the automated voice answering systems were only understanding key tones...
I find it ironic that my smart phone with gps and internet is not able to mimic the same functionality as any land-line phone can. Its like, yeah look at my new phone, its great for everything... except for the 'phone' experience.

I love XDA and its community and thanks to every hard working rom cookers. MS should pay you all big time for what your doing.

YABtI - Yet Another Bluetooth Issue

After getting my US TMo TP2 last month I've been pretty sure everything Bt was working properly.
Giving commands is 100%, I can touch the call button on my Moto S9's and say Dial <contact>, or Dial <555-1212> or What are my appointments tommorrow?, etc. and it works great.
I thought notifications were working as well. Calender appt. announced via my S9's and the text to speech was impressive as it read them out to me but something was missing and I just realized what it was. Incoming phone calls were not being announced properly. I did hear it ring and I could press the headset button and take the call just fine but it was the default S9 ring not my ringtone and I did not hear VC announce the number or contact. I was having to look at the phone to see who was calling.
So I went searching XDA and found this post that has just about everything you need to know about MS VC. After reading thru it thoroughly and trying many of the settings and reg tweaks I found out how to make VC announce incoming calls but it will only do so thru the device speaker an not thru Bt Handsfree. I've tried everything in that post that might help but to no avail.
Any one here have any idea?
S
Microsoft are working on it apparently.
