GPS Update to HTC Touch (Vogue) - Touch CDMA Windows Mobile ROM Development

HI, I've been reading about the new Alltell update from HTC that was released a few days ago and the forums are buzzing with news of users who have actually gotten GPS to work on their touches.
I've attached here the 3 files needed to run the GPS on our phones but... alas cant tell you HOW to install them or where to install them. I too am looking for advice on how to proceed.
This is what I personally have been waiting for since I purchased my phone 6 months back so if we can get this working on the HTC Touches it would be GREAT.
(I was sick of reading through 30 pages over at PPCgeeks and here to see that no one actually said where to install the files or how to make the GPS antenna work once they are installed)

Google is your friend

Well that comment was contructive and... obvious. Thanks!
This threat was more for people being able to just come here and get the directions they need to active the GPS instead of read through like I said 30 some odd pages of information.

Those are not what you need.
1. Unlock with the new unlocker 2.31
2. Run Alltel update
3. Download the zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1516102&postcount=3 and extract contents to your device.
4. Execute the 3 files located inside the newly extracted zip in order (they are named 1, 2, and 3).
5. Download the cab file from http://rapidshare.com/files/109911328/HTC_GPS_Enable_for_Titan_3.35.cab, copy to your device and execute.
6. Soft reset
That's it - you're done and GPS works.
Optionally, you may want to download/install QuickGPS, but Google Maps works without it.

does this work with Sprint devices as well?

Mm.... I just updated using the Alltel ROM, my download speeds are like 1400k and upload is around 120k.. phone seems to be a lot more responsive and battery life is seemingly better... I think I'll wait for an official Alltel GPS update!

Check me if I am wrong, but I think that thread is for the Alltel ROM being released for the Titan / Mogul, not the Touch / Vogue.

Ok, you're wrong.
The Alltel rom has been released for the Vogue/Touch. It has now been successfully installed on Sprint devices as well with the help of the new 2.31 unlocker by cokeman.
And yes, RevA and GPS now both work on the Vogue just like the Titan!

What about the Verizon xv6900? I haven't heard anything regarding it..everything has been been about sprint/alltel..

I hate it when that happens!
Oh, wait ... I probably wasn't clear. All I was hoping to do is keep folks from following the link from Draiko. When I click on the "Google is your friend" link, it leads to a forum post in the Titan / Mogul thread over at PPCGeeks.
The first post in that thread, includes a link to a ROM, which when downloaded, has the following name:
RUU_TITAN_ALLTEL_WWE_3.35.671.9_RS_TITAN_03.37.20_Alltel_2.01_AM_PPST_Ship.exe
So, while Rev.A and GPS are now working for the Touch / Mougl, I am just trying to point out that the thread in the Titan / Mogul forum, which includes a link to the Titan / Mogul ROM, may not be as helpful as Draiko had intended.
Thanks for checking me dew.man.
Best regards,

Not possible?
I have called htc four times seeing as how u sometimes get dif answers from dif reps, and all 4 four told me that the alltel touch did not have the gps HARDWARE in it to even attempt to unlock. They said sprint touch was the only one that had the hardware. 2 reps said alltel requested this just for price. Same thng frm an alltel tech too. The 6800 is the only gps/wifi hardware equipd htc @ alltel? is this true?

NO. They are the exact same hardware except for the casing.

I'm running the CDMA touch from Telus... basically my understanding is its the same thing as any other vogue. That said.. I've been steering clear away from putting any cooked roms or anything on my phone as I dont want to fry it. I thought that maybe all I had to do was bring those 3 files over onto my phone somewhere and then prestro... gps. Right now I connect via bluetooth to a gps receiever and use navigon and tom tom. Has anyone had anyluck using the internal GPS with these programs? I tend to just leave my reciever connected in my truck but for when I am walking around it would definatly be usefull to use the internal antenna.
Thanks!

The Chipset includes the aGPS chip. I think it's actually part of the processor. All the MSM 7500 and 7200 chipsets have the port to add WiFi hardware but it wasn't implemented in any of the Vogues. But all the Vogues, Telus, Sprint, Verizon, and Alltell are the same hardware wise.

now just gotta wait for a 6.1 rom with it all on it damn im picky LOL

You'd need to flash the Alltell rom because it updates your radio... ... ... but hopefully someone will come up with a more graceful option in the future.

Wouldn't it be somehow possible to extract only the radio update from that rom? Like 'un-cook' it heh
Install that, copy gps files, and that would be a quick solution.

Sprint GPS for Vogue/Touch is now available

as has been said many times, imcokeman configured the unlocker/spl to automatically revert completely back to stock an locked after flashing an original/official/oem rom back to the device...such as the one referenced in the post above.
therefore: depending on what carrier you have, find that carriers latest stock official vogue rom, flash it, and wala, youre done.

This has yet to be proved, nobody really knows for sure since it hasn't been enabled yet. Since its the same chipset as the Titan, it should have the same features/functionality when it comes to GPS.
I've seen people say its gonna be a combination of GPS and a-GPS, I've seen people say it'll only be a-GPS, and I've seen people say it doesn't have any GPS.
We won't really know until we can use it.
Titan vs. Touch
I had a titan for a few weeks before switching to the touch. While reva and gps were sweet on the titan its overall feel was cheap and plasticky. The Vogue is much faster and feels like a solid device. I'm willing to wait for the sprint update to see what this phone can really do.

I keep seeing this reference of "only aGPS" scattered around, and I think there's a serious misunderstanding.
aGPS is short for assisted GPS. That means that it is GPS with additional features to boost functionality. In its full spec -- and as available in Qualcomm's GPSOne implementation -- aGPS is fully capable of using satellites when they're available. This is used in conjunction with information from cell towers to further refine the position. When satellites are not available (such as when indoors), information from cell towers is used on its own.
Now, whether the phone manufacturer or the carrier activate all abilities is a different issue. They apparently can block access to satellites (at least to the user), and require that the phone be near their network to get a position.

i thought a-gps (knowing that it meant assisted gps) referred only to tracking via cell towers. thanks. still hoping...

dude where did you get your original ROM for verizon?
there's a post in the stickie section of the vogue upgrade forum at ppcgeeks ... has all the stock roms ... no vzw radio though
Are the techs actually looking at the Radio version? I have a vogue that I bought for the 30 day guarantee and it looks like I'm going to return it. I flashed to the Sprint Radio, then flash the VZW ROM. Can't tell except for the 2.13 R.
I can't see that they would have the time or the effort to be looking at radio versions, especially since there are no updates out.
They just click on
settings , then click
on device info and
the rom & radio are
right there .
They caught me when
I took my 6700 in .
They caught you? What percentage of Verizon customers have the knowledge or the equipment/software to unlock and change the radio on their phone. It such as remote possibility out of the majority of customers, that I think checking the radio version would not be a priority.
Not to mention, what techs actually have the training to be able to tell what phones are allowed to have what range of radios installed?
I find it hard to believe that they caught you without you letting on you modded the phone somehow.
Not sure if its true or not but I was told that even if the store replaces your phone, if something is found on a later inspection they can charge you for the phone. They simply don't have the time to check everything in the store.

I do as do a few other techs i have trained in my region...
We are called "Data Champions"... lol
But yeah most in store techs(like more than 90%) wouldn't have a clue... If you can't flash back to stock brick it completely...

Hey man, I have talked to techs that have flashed their phones
with some of these roms. Alot of the techs read these forums just
like you do. There are VZW techs answering questions in these forums,
they don't usually id themselves.
By the way , the 6700 had WM6 on it not the stock WM5 , easy to see.

Keyboard issue after upgrading to NFSFAN's current 6.5 ROM

Hey all. I've upgraded to NFSFAN's newest rom - which is really sweet!! - but I'm having an issue with the keyboard. I can only access it in landscape mode; whenever I push the tiny button in portrait mode (which is the mode I usually use), nothing happens. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sigh, sorry for this but same question for you as the other fella with "keypad" probs.
Do you have the HTC Vogue (CDMA version of the touch)?
this ROM may be generic (non-carrier specific) but it is meant for ONLY the Vogue.
IF you do have the Vogue, did you follow the reccomended upgrade procedure?
1. Flash the ROM from bootloader mode
2. Hard reset
3. Run your carrier GPS reg.cab UNLESS your with Bell Mobility
If not, reflash and follow the recomended procedure, it cures many "wierd" issues.
don't waste your money,

No kidding,
I'm waiting for them as well. Just want to "feel" both when their in store to decide. I carry my Vogue in my pocket and will probably continue with that.
To bad NFSFAN got the first gen TP. I know there was a "get NFSFAN a TP" fund going on in another forum. Don't know if that's why. He did mention waiting for an HTC phone with the tegra chip. I really want my next phone to be one NFSFAN has as well, tried LOTS of ROMS, play a while then go back to his!!
For 24/7 stable use there just ain't anything better.
Yeah, I guess that maybe I'll wait for the others to come out, then. I do like the Touch, but its screen is a little too small and it's not very fast....
Wow, I must say that I'm surprised to see the iPhone winning in this poll!!

tilt 2 radio

Hi all, Ive been a member here awhile (since my first tilt). I now have a tilt 2. Now i need some advice from the people that has more experience than i. Here is my question, I'm under the assumption that the radio in the rom is what gets the reception for the phone during a call. My problem is my new tilt doesn't have the reception the old tilt had. With the old phone i could talk almost anywhere, The new phones reception is horrible. What rom could i use to get my reception back? I love my new phone, But with the horrible reception I'm thinking of returning the phone. Thanks in advance.
PS my current radio version is 4.48.25.20. I am also located in north Mississippi.

Yes, you are correct, the radio is what handles the phone call communication (as well as 3G, wifi, and bluetooth)...and using different radios can improve reception.
You can indeed replace just the radio, and not everything else on your ROM...but the procedure is pretty much identical.
A list of ROMs avaialable with details HERE

Hey thanks for the confirm, Now one more question. When i try to open the RHODIUM-HARDSP i get a virus warning. It says BLOODHOUNDw32ep virus detected. Has this file been infected or is it ok. If infected where can i get a good file? And again thanks for the info. PS i downloaded the one for the verizon network(cdma i think) and it opened fine. I know i cant use this one though.

I beleive that's discussed in the HardSPL thread (make sure you read it all thoroghly!), but that's just a false positive, it's known that some AV programs will give warnings like that on custom ROMs.
I have read till my eyes bled ( dont want to brick my phone) But i don't understand why the other file opened without a warning. Again thanks for the reply.

I did NOT have any problems to unlock the phone and there was no virus warnings.
After the phone was unlock I load .91 radio and Energy Feb 26 ROM. The phone has much much better reception and faster GPS.
