There must be a way around this! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hey folks! I have an HTC Hermes running WM6 with wap connection (behind Proxy). I've been facing two problems with my connection every since I started using HTC products:
1) I cannot setup my Gmail account on outlook. I have tried every possible way, and I read so many threads but nothing seems to work.
2) Weather on HTC Homeplug doesn't work, even on the N2A patched one.
I hope those problems are solvable. I think it has something to do with my wap connection( I live in lebanon, using ALFA service, if any lebanese guys are reading this and have made those two things work, please post the settings/work around)
I appreciate any help and thanks in advance....

I'm not living in Lebanon but I have a Hermes device and I had no trouble at all setting up my gmail account, it even grabs the settings automatically. I don't know where your problem is stuck but it could be in the proxy settings.
sure everything can be solved. which ROM are you using and which Radio version?

I'm using Schap's 4.31 and radio 1.16.00.00
however i dont think it has anything to do with those things, i'm positive it's a matter of proxy settings

Are you sure the PROXY you defined is used for INTERNET?
most service providers use the PROXY for WAP only.
Call your service provider and ask them
I think you`ll get the answer from them.

I know it's for wap only, isn't there a way to make those things work over wap though?

It depends if your service provider allows it.
here in Israel we have one provider that allows access to the WWW using the WAP protocol and another Provider that blocks all DATA other then their own WAP site.

I checked the connection setup app on my device and found that it has the settings for <Lebanon/Alfa>. I think if you use this application, you might not be in need to setup any proxy.
if nothing works for you, then -as elivne said- calling your customer service would be a good solution
PS be careful with your mobile bill!

Rogers Canada MMS/SMS/GPRS Settings?
Hi sorry if I sound like a real newbie but I am. I have only used a Blackberry for the last 5 years and nothing else.
I currently have a Blackberry on Rogers in Canada, and will be getting my Dash tomorrow, I will unlock it with imei-check, what else do I need to do in order to have it work like my blackberry, I get my email from a couple pop accounts and my work outlook which does support owa web mail. right now I sync my calendar and contacts with desktop manager.
Is it worth installing BB Connect and just get my emails like on my blackberry or is it better it use the Dash email tools? when using the Dash can I change my reply to address depending on the email account I recieved the email in?
How do I find my rogers settings for MMS/SMS/GPRS??
Thanks for any help! This forum is awesome!

You should be able to point your ActiveSync server to your OWA server at work. Generally that works just like your BBerry if you enable Push Email (under the comm manager on your dash).
Thanks I tried that, but it won't let me sync to the owa server for some reason, most likely my it guys have blocked it.
I installed BB Connect and it wirks for receiving but I can not send it is greyed out.

I've entered all the settings you've listed and have been able to send an MMS, but cannot receive. Any thoughts as to why? It appears that the device won't connect to retrieve any messages.

It appears the problem was with my SIM card the whole time. I can't receive MMS on any phone, Rogers branded or not. Once I put my wife's SIM int he phone, the normal settings I've been trying worked perfectly the first time.
GPRS usage monitor that works?
Can someone tell of any GPRS usage monitor programs that work on the Excalibur?
Never mind.
I found out that Efficasoft makes a special version for the DASh and some other phones here:
http://www.efficasoft.com/gprsmonitor_w.html
efficasoft

I'vwe noticed that even when not having anything coming in, the counter slowly creeps up.
Never mind.
I was reading it wrong. I've only used 1.74Kb.
The other figure was the projected month usage at the current rate.
did anyone managed to get the today plugin working in other homescreens?

Gizmo setup for WM6 and TYTN

I have TYTN with Schaps WM6 ver 3.57a
Has anyone know how to configure the VOIP to support Gizmo project?
i second that
When I had Schapps I never set up VOIP, but with Black Dymond way back when I downloaded and installed the SipConfigTool and set username at my Gizmo number 1747XXXXXXX, password as your own password, and the gateways as proxy01.sipphone.com (same for sip server, domain and realm if asked). If you use another tool and can set a stun server, set it to stun01.sipphone.com. Schapps probably has his own voip settings tool, but if you run a search on the SipConfigTool I'm sure it will still do the trick.
I was never very happy with the WM6 voip on any provider, and have since relied on fring, which I felt worked better especially for receiving calls reliably. See www.fring.com for more info. I've got multiple call in numbers in several countries through both Gizmo and Skype all of which I route through fring which I use with a 3G connection. Depending on the connection there's some mild latency, but I never miss a call and the Gizmo connections are far superior to anything I was able to get with just the WM6 client or Skype.
Quist you right also with Schap's Gizmoproject SIP account is working well for me with Shap's 3.54c
Shap's have the built-in SIP confiuration tools under "system tools"
please note that you can replace your number with your account name.
Was glad to find this thread, but a bit disappointed on how old it is and without resolution. I have an 8525, with Schap's on it. I would like to set up the Internet Calling built in to this ROM with my Gizmo Project information as if it were an ATA.
I also have an ATA at home, a Innomedia left over from Sunrocket days, configured and working with Gizmo.
I am particularly interested in using this with WiFi, and not over 3G.
Using the information on GP website:
http://support.gizmoproject.com/index.php?_a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&_i=88
I have gone into Schap's Settings/Connections/VoIP to get the config screen.
Provider name is irrelevant, and I put in "gizmo"
for user account, I put in my area 747 number, both with a leading 1 and without. I have put in my correct PW.
For registrar address, I was unsure what to put in, and I ended up filling in the STUN information from the GP website: stun01.sipphone.com port 3478 / UDP.
Proxy is set up as proxy01.sipphone.com:5060 / UDP. <- sure that one is right.
The URI automatically fills in with the information from above.
However, I still can't make things work. I'm not sure if it is the registrar/STUN stuff that is messing me up, or if my userID should be some other variation?
Has anyone made this work, and if so, how? I have a feeling it is some silly setting I've just messed up here.
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure your username needs to include the domain. These settings are for a different phone, but should apply the same.

Nice, I reset and tried again - seems to work now.
A few problems though:
1. The settings seem to be reset when you reset your phone. How do you solve this?
2. After completing two test calls successfully, I let my phone "go to sleep" and when I turned it back on I had lost connectivity for VoIP (no service). Do I have to keep it awake to be able to receive calls using this method?

Gizmo5
Gizmo just launched a midlet for it's service.... I have it but haven't check to see if it works yet... this could be a good solution for some.
http://www.gizmo5.com
I think it what it does is call your phone first and when you pick up it calls the other phone... not 100% on that though.

Where do I put stun settings?
okay got it to work, however
, I need to use g.729 codec, is there anyway to do so?

Help... GPRS no longer works

Have a T-Mobile (UK) MDA Compact III which I've just upgrade to B&B v.4.1. I also updated the radio to version 02.97.90.
My GPRS connection now no longer works. It'll just say "Connecting to GPRS..." for a while and then ends with a message "The remote party has ended this".
Using the following-
APN address: general.t-mobile.uk
Username : user
Password: wap
No domain
No proxy
I've also made sure the GPRS setting is set to PAP authentication.
I tried reverting back to previous radio versions with no luck either...
Do not crosspost!
what about running the network wizard again ?

Hmmm username and password should be blank for a start.
Check the T-Mobile website under "phone support", setting up MMS, it details the GPRS connection settings. You have to go through a java applet, so I can't direct link I think.

You dont need to add a username or a password on the account, the reason you are getting the message is because of the username and password, just remove it and try again.
Solved...
I ended up phoning T-Mobile and it seems there was a GPRS issue in the Croyden area - their response was wait until tomorrow which I did and now it is working.
Thanks for all the helpful responses.

lol. i cant believe i didnt write the ROM and stuff
windows mobile 6.1 and pay as you go
What ROM you using? Are you on contract or pay as go, just that connection setup has contract, but the pay as you go is different and they block ports so no pop3 or imap4
I had to use a .cab on Tilt to set up pay as you go, the connection settings are available though.
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...tings&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Not sure if this .cab will work as only used on Tilt if not manual input it is. o2 are well cheaky with the 200MB package blocking email but i just use gmail in mini.
SMTP and IMAP4 works fine on PAYG O2 Internet for me, have the £7.50 Web bolt on and working through ProfiMail no problem - even SSL IMAP4 on port 993 works fine.
I think that O2 unblocked that restriction some time ago as it has been fine for me for almost a year. I'm using the standard PAYG access point details.
If the CAB doesn't work, the settings are:
Connects to: The Internet
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password
Should be all you need.

Thanks for info, i'll give that a shot but know that even recent posts people had same problem with o2 and u using diffeent port than the ones that blocked.
Well IMAP on the standard port 143 and POP3 also work fine, so suggest it may be a problem with their account?
good luck
if somebody could give me a step by step guide please.
Start > Settings > Connections > GPRS
Menu > Delete any connections that are there already, but if you have one that says "Auto configure connection", ignore it.
Menu > Add
Description: O2
Connects to: The Internet
Access Point: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password
Leave everything else and press Done, and keep going Done until you are back at the home screen.
Make sure WiFi is switched off and try and use an Internet application. It should work fine.
Good luck!
