keyboard fix needed! - HTC Excalibur

hi guys, i already attempted to solve my problem by asking in some topics here, but it's like nobody reads my post...
I've downloaded the 6.1 rom update, and wow, thats a beauty, but i have a quite unknown problem with it, i'm using an azerty keyboard version of the excalibur, quite rare in the excalibur world, and, like you will probably gues, the keyboard is typing qwerty, and not azerty...
I looked at keyboard mapping, but thats al for qwerty keyboards, so im nowhere...
sorry for my English it probably sucks cuz i'm just a belgian student
cheers, and thanks!

I will try to look for a fix for this and get back to you as soon as I can. And for your english its okay, I understood what you are looking for.

In the sticky for remapping that you also posted in it says in post #22 that there is a zip file of cabs files for different layouts for different regions. I don't know if they are azerty, but you could start there. If not then in post #27 you could try flashing back to your old original Rom and look for those files and copy or safe them then flash back. Otherwise I would say no 6.1

You may find the person who altered the xT9 to Portugueses may be able to help? Worth a PM.

hey jdoggraz thanks allot man, finally someone who try's to help me!
@pfunkside, i tested those files already, and they didn't work, and about turning back to 6.0: no way! i just like 6.1
@stylez, yeah, maybe, but thats a qwerty keyboard, and with portugueses letters, so it probably won't work...
But, thanks allot so far guys!

if nothing else works, couldnt you just edit the keymap?

Thats why i said about the person who edited to Portugueses as you would just have to edit everything to azerty

it's possible, but i'm a real noob with that, and it's hard to understand how to do it, becaus i'm not english speaking, that's why i'm asking for someone who can do that for me, that should be wonderfull, and help others with the azerty problem.
best regards, Samuel.

here is how the keymap looks, this is an English example. You can see, it even shows you how the values are assigned. You would just need to cross reference what the values are on the different keyboards and change the values to match.
You may get lucky and find someone that has already done this, but if you have a couple hours you could probably get it working pretty easily even if its your first time. Note, you should reboot the device after changing the keymap
Code:
//
// N O T E: This file must be saved as Unicode
//
// This file contains the virtual keys mapping table for the
// Excalibur device. The mapping table is define as follow
//
// VK_TPOUND = 0x78
// VK_TSTAR = 0x77
// VK_TAB = 0x09
//
// We do not support escape value yet. So the key/char values should be
// entered explicitly or by encoding start with 0x
//
// Format:
// {VK VK' CH1 CH2}
// VK -> value from keyboard driver
// VK' -> printed on keys
// CH1 -> symbols produced by Fn + key
// CH2 -> symbols in 123 mode
// KeyIndex -> matched the kdb key index, 0xff -> no key index
{Q Q % % 0x00}
{1 W 1 1 0x01}
{2 E 2 2 0x02}
{3 R 3 3 0x03}
{T T + + 0x04}
{Y Y ( ( 0x05}
{U U ) ) 0x06}
{I I - - 0x07}
{O O _ _ 0x08}
{P P " " 0x09}
{0x78 A # # 0x0a} // VK_TPOUND maps to Device Button A
{4 S 4 4 0x0b}
{5 D 5 5 0x0c}

{8 C 8 8 0x15}
{9 V 9 9 0x16}
{B B ' ' 0x17}
{N N & & 0x18}

{0 0x09 0 0 0xff} // 0x30 = VK_TAB
{0xE9 0xE9 0xC1 0xC1 0xff} // Launch Camera with Fn

yeah, it seams simple, but for me it isn't problem is, i don't really have time to do it, but i'll try soon if i have some time, thanks man!
I also hope i dont kill my machine

shoot, can't fix it... i need a pro!
grtz

someone?

Ummm so did you try to fix it?

yeah, but i'm a real noob and i really dont understand anything of that mapping, i really need a pro, but, you'll probably all think i'm just to lazy to do it by myselve, but i realy don't have time to do it and the skills to do it...

Copy eT9-Full.cab to your device and run it from there - this patch fixes keyboard mapping problems with the original install.

already done that, but thats a patch for qwerty keyboards
come on, there has to be one pro who can fix this?

Oh so you want the azerty, I will see what I can do and work on this if I have some spare time.

Also, can you please give me the layout of the azerty or of your keyboard like possibly take a picture and post it on here of your keyboard so I can adjust it accordingly.

a question on that:
i have german S620 using german WM6. I'm curious of upgrading to 6.1, but i have a qwertz-keyboard (so german layout model.) is it possible to keep that layout with a cab, too.?
Well, just read the "german fix" thread just below this one, and there seem still to be issues with the layout and some letters not shown in symbols map. .... seems, i gotta keep wm6 for now.

HTC Home Date

Hi Guys! Anyone know of a reg hack that will allow me to change the date format at the top of the HTC Home plugin from 08/08/07 to 8th August 2008? Sorry if this has already been discussed but i checked all threads regarding home plugin and came up with nothing?!?
Hello,
use move file in the appendix. You can adapt the format as you want.
The format in the Cab is: dd, dd.MM.yyyy or Do, 09.08.2007

"SSDte"="ddd, dd.MM.yyyy"
dddd, dd MMM yyyy = Thursday, 09 August 2007

Also - what's the icons below the HTC thingy?
Apologies for being OT - just curious!

are some days that i'm looking for it!
In my Kaiser, changing it manually didn't work, also because, maybe, there wasn't the "SLDte" key in the registry (only the "SSDte"), but using your CAB solved it!
Ciao
guys guys. u cant be installing cabs for everything on your phone. do you really have so much space in your phone.
just look around in your phone. Here is how u do it:
1.) go to settings
2.) go to system tab
3.) Click Regional Settings
4.) go to "Date" tab
5.) in the short date format, select: dd-mmm-yy
and thats it.
this would help...

Hi dude, I solved!
Ok, but i already looked in that settings and there isn't the right date format i like ( dddd dd-MM-yy) but only these one:
dd-MMM-yy
dd-MMMM-yy
dd-MMM-yyyy
so i tried to manually add it but as above-mentioned editing only the "SSDte" key didn't get effect so i installed that CAB on my device and now in the registry there is the "SLDte" key too, and finally editing the two keys can change the date format!
However really thanks for your replay!
Ciao
Great tips .... working great thanks

I changed SLDte and SSDte to "ddd MM/d" and nothing changed. I then installed your cab and got your long version. I changed them again to "ddd MM/d" and now I'm stuck with the long version. Changing the registry has never worked, but the cab did.
Could I possibly get a cab with "ddd MM/d" in it? Or does anyone have any other idea?
Changing short date format
Editing the SSDte in the registry changes the date display on the HTC Home plugin (remember to soft reset after this change).
However, the short date format is also used in other apps, like messaging! Changing the short date to dddd dd MMMM yyyy wil make the messaging application unusable. The date has become so long, that sender only shows 2 characters. When creating an appointment, I no longer can edit the time, as this is now outside the screen.
So, my question is: Can I change the date format of the HTC Home plugin without changing the SSDte. For instance, how can I get the HTC Home plugin to show the long date format.

Erik Cheizoo

Manila 2D home Date format?????
Can anyone help please. I have HTC touch Cruise T4242 and I tried the reg edit to change the date format to dddd d MMMM yyyy in the Manila2D home screan but it remains unchanged any suggestions? I created the following entries and did a soft reset.HLM\nls\overrides:
ILDte REG_DWORD 0
SLDte REG_SZ dddd, d MMMM, yyyy
IDate REG_DWORD 1
SDate REG_SZ /
SSDte REG_SZ dd/MM/yy
Reigonal Settings are set to short Date dd/MM/yy and Long Date dddd, d MMMM, yyyy as you would expect from the HLM\nls\overides entries. I then tried the Date.Cab after deleting all the reg entries and that had no effect also. Any ideas. I have the following software installed:
PhoneAlarm 2.15 (build 345), M2DC 0.29.235, SecondToday 0.4.3, PocketControler 6.01.1256, SBSH Clock, My Converter Pro 4.2 2008 and the Manila version is HTC TouchFlow 3 (build 33035)
Any assistance would be greatfully received as I am new to all of this. Thanks..

All QVGA TaskBAR (phcanoverbmp.dll) - Wm 6.5 included

Hello to all,
(Saddened for my bad English this is an on-line translation)
From the excellent work of FInixNOver I dashed into the adaptation, even the modification, of the DLL phcanoverbmp.dll to make it compatible QVGA. After some evenings on the subject here is any warmth release of furnaces Taskbar everything in color!
In the passage it is to indicate that Pinpad is also retouched there.
The DLL contains 2 options for the animation of the battery, the standard version with the incremented remaining % everything the 1 %, the version to nuclear increments by step of 10 %.. The DLL remains exactly the same in both cases (in both cabs), only the base of register is different to reach the icone battery(icone drum kit) of its choice.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\security\ResOver\Bitmaps]
"BatteryIconLevels"=dword:65 (B for nuclear)
"BatteryIconIdStart"=dword:3e9 (44E for nuclear)
"BaseDll"="phcanOverbmp.dll"
"BaseId"=dword:0
Do not forget to install previously sdkcerts.cab to avoid the problems of certification WM, then the cab of your choice.
End the installation by a soft reset.
We could again replace some icones but it would be to the detriment of Kb, I thus opted for a compromise aesthetics / weight. Besides the resolution QVGA shows icones 16x16 what does not still allow to obtain a sharpness of details.
For all those who would like to dash into the adventure you will find a very detailed post -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437307.
Noted: the Logo "Start" and the satellite dish situated above the signal of the network make party of shellres.96.dll, If you also wish to replace these icones 2 complete the installation by copying this DLL in your directory Windows. As for the color of the network signal, this one depends on the color of the subject and not on a DLL.
By hoping to satisfy most large number.
Special Thanks to FInixNOver, DarkLord69 and all those who contributed to the dévellopement of the TaskBar VGA.

Hey ! Thanks ! Could you post some other screen captures with the battery levels please ? Does the step goes by 10% or increments by 1% ? Does it show any numerics values ?
Thanks !
i did not make any other changes to the battery icons yet,i have a trinity and i need to change my battery.dll file to get that 1% meter,but with it i have a battery drain,so i can try to make something but i do not promise that i will succeed! have a nice day
Thanks Th3Hunter! Let me try to give a help if needed.
Bye
i'll make a battery icon but i'm not sure if it will work for other devices than Trinity,because as i said the icons for 1% are in different dll file, if you give your dll i'll compile one for you too , the other option is to make one for the 10% it will be working on other QVGA devices i think
@Tane71, if you want to help what can you do ? you can find some cool icons and i can compile them in to the DLLs
I couldn't find the missed call icon ?? can someone tell me where to look ? or maybe i don't see it in front of my eyes
Here I am: for lovers of simplicity, here is the phcanOverbmp.dll file modified with these icones (based on the Arthemus icones) :

And I just installed the AT&T Samsung Jack update to WM6.5
Everything seems to be perfect except for the keyboard layout as you can see the jack has different keys on the bottom corners, the shift and FN keys and mine has a Ñ, etc.
I've got another samsung messenger without the update. I was wondering is there anyway to copy the driver of the keyboard layout Or is there any tweak on the registry to fix this?
Thanks

Messaging Key is Camera key
Camera Key is Messaging Key
(Tryed to switch the links in \windows in this last 2 but didnt work)

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I did this, and works fine, but how can I change or remap áé to original key Sym?
And how can I remove lnk to attnav on key Sym?
Do I have to edit eT9.samsung_keylayout.txt on section:

This is the accented key on line 73 of the txt file:
{0xCA 0xE1 0xE1 0xE1 0xE1 0xff}
If you want the accented key to work as the Sym key change the line to this:
{0xCA 0xE9 0xE9 0xE9 0xE9 0xff}
Reboot
I haven't found a way to eliminate the attnav key, the only useful thing I can recommend is to go to \program files\ATTNAV\ and rename ATTNav.exe so you don't get that anoying app if you press the button by mistake
Remapping the Key layout
Hello guys,
I'm a Claropr subscriber with the Samsung I637 latinamerica version. So happened that I tool flashed this phone with WM 6.5 ATT rom version. I have followed your conversations and attempted to remap the keys but no luck whatsoever. I'm basically a newbie and seem not to be able to follow your recommendations. I have installed Total commander on my phone and copied the key mapping txt file to the windows directory. I seem not to be able to find the file that needs replacing. The only place for key board layout I can find is under \\plugins\registry\HKCU\Keyboard layout but there is no txt file to replace. Can you please provide a step by step on how to remap the keyboard.
Thanks,
Arty
Here's the 6.1 rom from telcel if you want to go back. If you have the driver error get it from the 6.5 update.

After all Everything is working fine for me plus I have the ATT maps, very useful in my area although I cannot use the GPS because it is a service.
I'm very much greatful for your help and if you know of someone that can help me fix the keys mapping let me know.

Hi,
I have a Desire Z from Singapore...
Your mod worked only after I apply the changes on files
vision-keypad-sea.kcm
vision-keypad-sea.kl
The desire Z is the same, the keymap is the same, but it reports to the system to use the *sea* files.
I think the Hong-kong ones (vision-keypad-hk.kcm) occurs the same...
Also, key ? reports wrongly '(' for alt+? (should be ") on sea and hk files. It is wrongly not on your mod, but on the Aokp rom. I reported it on aokp rom topic and fixed on my device.
Thanks for your mod, I learned how to edit keymap seeing the files on your zip
You are welcome ;-)
While I don't have any particular use for this, I was wondering if this would be helpful in recovering the shortcut functionallity which was lost when flashing a non-stock ROM...?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
What's about "recovering the shortcut functionallity "?
I'm using a flashable package contain my customized stuffs such as: keyboard layout, pre-installed apps like: Titanium backup, ES File manager, gps config and some personalized settings such as: localize, time zone, adfree hosts file... to restore everything after flash a new ROM.
Thanks this helped me correct a French keyboard error on Andromadus Beta3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26336318&postcount=4248
However I haven't figured out what the keycodes are for the 2 shortcut keys on the keyboard so as to reprogram them for brackets as you did.
I tried as you did
Code:
184 LEFT_BRACKET
185 RIGHT_BRACKET
but to no avail.
Thanks for doing this!
hi i was wondering for the htc desire z would you be able to change they symbol button in to emoticons so when you press it it opens up a list of them??
thank you

You need to find out which keycode present for 2 user keys. You can use KeyEvents Display app on Google Play Store to get scan code of these keys: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.keyeventdisplay
And then re-map your keyboard layout => reboot, and it should work fine.

I think it is possible but ATM I can not find scan code for emoji key. And I'm not sure that default framework and Android system allow we to activate that popup using hardware keyboard.
Just to notify you guys there are new update available.
Keep your fingers crossed ;-)
I know you said you tested it with ICS - any idea if this works with Froyo? The keymapping has also been bugging me like crazy.
I think you will need to compile .kcm file to .kcm.bin to make it work with FB & GB. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9208893&postcount=31
G00d luck!
mod
Hey everyone. First, a huge thank you to tiger for getting me thinking in this direction and providing the excellent base files.
I've made a slight mod to his to fit my typing style. I tend to use the left ALT and SHIFT heavily, so having that be control was cramping me a bit.
my bind (changes) are as follows:
left alt: left alt
left shift: left shift
right alt: right ctrl
right shift: escape
camera button: app_switch
i love having 1 button app switch even at the cost of the camera button.
also in testing this i found out that ICS actually responds to ALT-TAB on the DZ keyboard which is kinda funny.
a final note: i was lazy and didn't update the script in the flashable zip to reflect the new binds, so please disregard that if you try this out.
The keys don't appear to take effect on the EliteMod Rom, particularly the USR# keys.
ICS version of it? which zip were you flashing?

Look like EliteMod using same keymap with AOKP as #2 or you are using different locate setting (mine is WWE).
I've updated #1, please re-read and post your missing keycode here.
FYI, I using this mod for my current ROM: Flinny JB CM 10.1 and it work well. Tested and works with: CM9 unofficial, AOKP, Andromadous mimicry and flinny (ICS, JB, JB CM10.1).

I successfully built a CWM with english for P6(But i have some problem)

I can move up and down with the volume keys,But I can not use the power button controls the Enter key。So it just can move up and down but can't Confirm each command. You need to modify recovery_ui.c before compiling CWM to alter KEY Mapping. Don't forget to define the below in your BoardConfig.mk beforehand.
Just swap out "KEY_MENU" for "KEY_POWER" within "recovery_ui.c"...
BoardConfig.mk:
Code:
BOARD_CUSTOM_RECOVERY_KEYMAPPING := ../../device/[B]*INSERT-MANUFACTURE-NAME[/B]/[B]*INSERT-DEVICE-NAME/recovery_ui.c[/B]
The only issue then you'll have is binding a back key map since as you know we're short a few keys, failing that build a Touch CWM recovery since this issue is addressed.
Bravo on getting a successful and bootable CWM build. Hats off to you sir.
can you help me to build a recovery Binaries.

Another case is this, in BoardConfig.mk
Code:
BOARD_HAS_NO_SELECT_BUTTON := true
If you builded the cwm with their web builder, probably this is the error

I still need to complete the repo sync (i'm aroun 90%), pm it to stickman too, he already got all the enviroment set up
Either modify the existing "default_recovery_ui.c" located at [SOURCE FOLDER]/bootable/recovery/ and add the below: (Replace any existing entries if defined, do not remove unrelated entries otherwise)
Code:
int device_handle_key(int key_code, int visible) {
if (visible) {
switch (key_code) {
case KEY_DOWN:
case KEY_VOLUMEDOWN:
return HIGHLIGHT_DOWN;
case KEY_UP:
case KEY_VOLUMEUP:
return HIGHLIGHT_UP;
case KEY_ENTER:
case KEY_POWER:
return SELECT_ITEM;
}
}
return NO_ACTION;
}
for device reset after power button being pressed 5 times add the following to the same file on a new line and below the above entry:
Code:
int device_reboot_now(volatile char* key_pressed, int key_code) {
// Reboot if the power key is pressed five times in a row, with
// no other keys in between.
static int presses = 0;
if (key_code == KEY_POWER) { // power button
++presses;
return presses == 5;
} else {
presses = 0;
return 0;
}
}
or define your own recovery_ui.c via BoardConfig.mk and setup your own. Obviously were missing a return/back key so perhaps building against Touch Recovery is a better idea.
...For now the above should suffice.

How on earth did you flash CWM Recovery without Huawei signing it?
We need to know the procedure you used and any other modifications to CWM source you specifically made in order to get this booting on our device.
Your environment is clearly working, would make more sense if you made these changes. The method
S34Qu4K3 gave in terms of a simple one line fix to BoardConfig.mk will allow CWM selection or alternatively use my method which required a bit more interaction.
I bet that's the Honor 2 CWM (or a huawei dev ;D)
What about CWM builder? Touch recovery should work right? I know, that the power button issue is in the non touch recovery provided by the builder
Zhenaguo add this line to your BoardConfig.mk: (as suggested by S34Qu4K3)
Code:
BOARD_HAS_NO_SELECT_BUTTON := true
It's that simple. If that doesn't work provide me with the following file: /bootable/recovery/default_recovery_ui.c and I'll make the required modifications for our button mapping.
Without knowing how you bypassed encryption to flash said recovery our efforts won't be at all effective.
Since your able to successfully build a bootable CWM you may as well make the above simple modification.
zhenaguo, Hello previously encountered the same problem as you, but was able to resolve it on U9510E, the machine with the same architecture. if you can help it, you would appreciate your help on my phone
Sorry for the off topic but do you think that we 'll be able to use it or as a base for the ascend mate?
