WVGA Skin For Emu48 HP Calculator Emulator - Touch HD Themes and Apps

well, on my quest for finding a decent scientific calculator for my HD, i finally settled with an emulated HP 49 g. I tried the Ti89 emulator, but it was a little sluggish/slow.
But as there was a lack of a good skin/theme for the HD resolution, I modified an existing theme to fit my needs and wanted to share it with you
Just copy the 2 files in the rar to \Program Files\Emu48\ (or whereever you saved emu48 to, and choose "beemer's VGA HP 49 modified" as KML Script
The main Calculator Buttons are resized (screen and softkeyboard are the same size as in the original Skin) and i added smal red letters for the keyboard, indicating the special symbols you get when you tap the Beta Button in the lower right of the softkeyboard.
To install the Emu48, go to http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Emulating HP's calculators on Windows Mobile
And if you end up with the same problem i have (only having a rom.e49 instead of the rom.49g) try installing the 49g rom from "Emu48PPCv116Setup.zip" on this page: http://hp.giesselink.com/emu48.htm
Hope this helps some of you people

QWVGA Skin for HP48 or HP49
Do you know if somebody has developed a skin for QWVGA devices. I have an Omnia i900 and don't find any skin that fits.
Thanks

Thank you for this skin, Magicdead. With my layout for Free42 (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462316), it's christmas for HP calculator lovers !
I prefer HP42 for everyday use, but I need HP49 CAS from time to time; now HP49 emulation is quite usable on Blackstone.

Wqvga 240 x 400
How did you modified the screen to your needs? I need to do the same for my 240 X 400 Omnia screen.
Thanks

as you see, the skin is 2 files, an image file and a text file. I resized/modified the image (i basically made the main buttons larger and adjusted some of the others) and then adjusted the coordinates in the text file. for the coordinates, just take the pixels from the upper-left corner of the images.
Also, check out the "KML20R13" file at http://hp.giesselink.com/emu48.htm for a more detailed description of the kml file

Well, I'm glad someone is using it Thanks for the nice words

Thanks, but it looks pretty complicated for someone without experience. I think, I will have to wait.

I have a problem with my HTC Touch.
I can't load kml 49WVGA: Error line 19!!
Do you have a similar problem or is it due to the fact that I have a french version of HTH Touch HD?

Hello,
Thanks, it's work very well !
But, a little question, any chance to find the same things but for the hp49g+ ?

nice! Let's try these old HP49g games I created in high-school... good memories

Free42 is an emulator of the HP42. It's available for Pocket PC. Last week I ported the iphone-skin of Free42 to WVGA resolution (via upscaling and tweaking) and have made it run on my Touch HD, the button mapping was hard work though.
It looks fantastic now, however, I need to ask the author of the original size picture for his authorization so that I can share the skin with you. The problem is that Free42 on the iphone is not free (at least not when purchased through iTunes), it's a 5 dollar application.
Check here for a screenshot of the iphone free42 port :
http://free42.sourceforge.net/
It may only be a matter of days...

I just posted my last month's work on ModaCo. A truly fine fit of the HP 49 to the omnia. The 400x240 WQVGA made it all possible. Legible and readable. I made two versions, one of which is finger friendly with very little compromize to the full functionality of the HP49.
Check it out at http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-http-omnia-modaco-com/284163/hp49-on-the-omnia/#entry969746

Thanks but your version doesn't work properly on Blackstone, it displays in portrait instead of landscape, should I use an external application (such as FlipIt) to force the landscape?
Update:
Indeed we need to set to Landscape mode to use ji3m's WQVGA skin. It works then pretty fine, except that the graphics feels low-res on the Blackstone WVGA screen, and the button detection-boxes doesn't fit *perfectly* the button graphics (still usable though).

I just spent most of last month working out two skins and keyboard layouts for emu48 /hp49 for my omnia. Most of the KML's out there are plain illegible or microscopic on the Omnia.
Belive I have a good solution- check out my post at WinMo at MoDaCo.com and search the forumns for Ji3m HP49 Omnia. It has descriptions and download. I also made a video to show it off- link is on that post and also google videeo (search for HP49 0n Samsung Omnia.
Hope you like it. Let me know.
Addendum: sorry- i didn't realize i had made a previous post yesterday. - follow the link in # 12 above. The video is new.

Is the Blackstone 400 x240 (WQVGA) ? If not, I cant make it fit. If it is then the problem is the definition of the screen (where is 0,0, the origin). Thge Omnia has a true landscape mode so the graphics works out- it sees the upper left (in horizontal mode) as the origin.
The kml script has a parameter "Vertical 0" in my script. For a cheap shot change it to "Vertical 1" see what happens. It make a mess on the Omnia.
The other option is that I regenerate the kml redefining all the coordinates and using a rotated image -: which is to say , redo it all in portrait mode.
Does the Blackstone have a "landscape" mode?
Update:
I just watched some videos to get familiar with the Blackstone. It would aqppear that the only difference is that the Omnia is wQvga (400x240) and the Blackstone is wvga (800 x 480) so they have the same
aspect ratio but different pixel dimensions. The graphic I provided is 400x240 and the KML script for EMU48 uses absolute coordinates. I would expect if you rotated the Blackstone the view would then be landscape but the image would be one quarter the size it needs to be.
Try this : edit the KML script and change the parameter "Zoom" to 4 . This should double the size of the
HP LCD. Then rotate the phone to landscape position. I expect the keyboard graphics to still be messed up but the LCD should be in the upper left. If this is ok then try taking the graphic file into an image editor and doubling its size. Load it again and if it looks right then just the touch boxes for the buttons will be all the wrong size and in the wrong places. If this works then all that needs to be done is to regenerate the KML script with new sizes and dimensions which I can then do. You could do this manually for some of the buttons to test out the notion.
To this point I have focused on the Omnia but it might be good to distribute an HTC version as well.
Let me know.

Perhaps don't you use the correct emulator.
Just try this one instead E48MB116

hi
I've been using emu48 in all my PDA's and I have it in my HD, but yes the resolution was a problem, your skin is really good, but have you seen some one like this but for the HP48? I love that one, and is the one I used to use

I did some screenshots
First Magicdead's WVGA HP49 skin (modified from Beemer's VGA skin), nice for portrait mode:

Then ji3m's AQWIK23 "Everyday" layout WQVGA, nice for landscape mode:
Thanks to both of you.
I'm not sure if it's appropriate to talk about both skins in the same thread (can be confusing). Maybe ji3m you should create a separate thread dedicated to your skin? unless Magicdead don't mind?

THANX !!!!!!!!
MagicDead, you're GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx

please, MagicDead, coluld you please modify ipaq49g KML script to make it work on my Touch HD ?!?!?

As you can see, this project is a huge work, so don't expect a release before several weeks, then I plan to make some private betas, limited to donators of my ROMs.
Suggestions are welcome!
schaps, if you PM me your address i can arrange for some euros to be sent over!
this really really looks pretty fantastic!
um, suggestions wise:
1) when you make a release of a rom, is it possible to also release a RAR file containing all the extra add-ons that are part of the FULL releases so that LITE users can add ONLY the programs they wish from a centralised database of files?
2) release your releases quicker!lol. jk. your roms are very very much appreciated schaps, yours are the only roms i use now!
Please don`t remove Internet Sharing from the lite ROM, since there is no cab for it!!
Thank you for your work!
That a nice today screen you have there, is that available in a cab file.
THANKS ALOT
I think I wasn't clear enough, please post here for suggestions concerning the future ROM interface, for general ROM suggestions please post in 4.22 ROMs threads.
I won't make a pack with all the applications in Full ROMs because I don't have time for that, and they are all available on this forum.
Is the Internet Sharing CAB available somewhere here not working?

this looks great, could you integrate multiple contact pages and possibly add chainfires wifirouter as an app?
edit: What I'm trying to ask for is this: On the apps/contacts screen allow for page down feature that brings up further lists of contacts/apps, and a Calendar page/most recent messages page which diplays a snapshot of upcoming events that day on top and on the bottom has the first few lines from the last few messages you've sent/recieved.

Some views
Of course, all we, aspecially me fed up of the standart Home today plugin. It's a new generation we can call it in Hermes platform.
Eventhrough, all the touchscreen phones should have
1) Any application to end proccesses in a case of any problem (something like Oxious CloseApplication or Hibernate, if better one why not...) may be in Buttons
2) Any additional Launcher ( to collect programs as the owner wishes)
3) Quick accessable DIRECT selectable connection settings. (not to select bluetooth, then to select make the device visible to other devices) press bluetooth and open all bluetooth functions at the same time as much functions as it's possible. Exp: EffComm Today Radio DeviceToggle not bad, if additional will be available then o.k.
4) Application manager like waku WkTASK 1.1.0.1 or if better then o.k.
The main future collecting opened application on top or bottom of screen (like windows for pc)
5) Some application that will allow the keyboard to write in language that the owner can select (many languages support keyboard)
6) DialPad with big buttons on screen like Kaiser 3G Dialer - Schen
Thanks for all,Great work!
Hello schaps,
First, thank you for your work.
My suggestion are :
- a black edition, Kaiser style
- a french ROM
um, i think my post has been taken wrongly, i put 'lol.jk' in there, the 'jk' bit means joke, i was only jesting! i did not mean any disrespect to schaps, and if any was implied i can only apologise.
again i apologise for taking the context of the thread wrongly. suggestions for the interface would be:
1) two options where you can have a full blown screen like the screenshot given and another much more simpler with only the 'important' things on like a nice large analog/digital clock, missed calls, email, sms monitor (to show if there are any new ones) and if possible a little button which shows the wifi status
2) if there could be some sort of 'tab' system, similar to the HTC Home plugin whereby you can click a tab and be in a specific type of shortcut menu, such as a 'favourites' for applications commonly used, and a settings menu which allows you to access the settings menu at the tap of a button (i guess what im trying to get at is a more streamlined version of the LG custom interface floating around on the development section)
i have tried to make a small donation (what little i can spare as a student) and i look forward to all future releases ( i dont know if the donation will go through or not, it will be my first ever paypal transaction!)
many thanks for the roms by the way schaps.
Slither's HTC Cube Clone is in beta 8 phase at the moment and I think/hope it'll be in RTM phase by the time your next ROM is released, given the indications above. Now, that is something that I think would work well with your new Touch interface...
Yea lighten up, the guy was only kidding!
I have been using this with your lite roms and it is pretty nice. It takes a little to much to run but the general idea is good. Maybe can get some ideas from this. It works on a tab setup.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/pocketplus/?en
Schaps,
I like what I see at the moment. This is a major and very welcome departure away from HTC Home, which I absolutely detest!
I assume you have given up running an integrated 4/6 sided cube on this rom or are you leaving it up to the choice of the individual?
One thing I would like to see is a choice of roms in terms of storage availability. I have begun to notice that available rom space for the TyTN is becoming scarce, given the increasing trend for developers to force their software to run in main memory.
I will give some more thought to a feature set and add to this post.
In the meantime I definitely want to be added to your list of preferred testers. A further donation from me is on its way this evening.
Keep up the good work.
WB
Hello Schap,
Thanks for the hard work and great results. I'm using 4.22 at the moment.
I did not check the new project in full details, yet here are a couple of comments:
-As for me, the most important is Calendar, and Emails. So I suggest to give the most possible ease of access and use for these 2.
-The pictures your posted with the templates so contain to much information in my opinion. I feel the information on memory and other stuffs are of no great use, yet take a lot of space, while giving an crowded aspect.
-As someone already mentioned, it would be great to have a choice in colors, such as blue or black editions.
Longing to see the results...
1) a digital clock instead of an analogic (may be booth : just a matter of taste)
2) the indicator are a good idea but it make the screen to much ornate. 2 possibilities : a possible removal through a custom panel or regrouped information in an other tabs.
Of course these are sugestions. I'm not able to do a piece of your work. You're like "The Fall Guy" (N.B : more sense in french "l'homme qui tombe à pic")

Boog's 2.10 lite and full rom 20931/20755 LZX compression (updated 5/9/09)

OK, all you flashing addicts, here is another WM6.1 rom!
This is Based on Josh's Saphire Pro Kitchen, with my fixes/updates. I wanted a simple but full rom with the least amount of configuring/installing/changing of things as possible, with decent free storage/program memory, stable, and this is where it is. I removed a couple things so it should be ok to release here on xda dev (paid for programs removed).
I want to thank ivanmmj for the lzx compression. The full rom is around 61 meg of free storage, and the lite rom should be close to 70!
A couple screenshots. If someone takes some screenshots, I'll post them here.

I like the rom
I'm running the one I made with my extra software in it (non free software), but other than that it's the same.
I flashed the rom and so far everything seems to be fast and stable.
However, I had some minor problems.
* After the initial startup, file explorer extension wasn't working. I had to uninstall it and install my own copy to make it work.
* There are some cab files in the /Windows folder. Are they really supposed to be there? It seems like a waste of ROM space to me.
* The X-button software has some messed up fonts. Instead of the names of the software, when I click and hold on the x-button, I see some squares.
* It seems like you included the Helvetica font. Where is this necessary? If it is not required by a certain software, I would remove the font completely.
* This is a personal preference but instead of the bulky and slow Opera, I would include Skyfire. It is much much faster than Opera.

I knew you guys could find stuff I missed!
I realized I don't have the latest file explorer extensions in there, I'll upgrade it for the next release, hopefully that will fix it.
I put the cab files in the windows directory because there is no extrom, os and splash screens only. Maybe I can figure out how to edit the extrom eventually. I'll remove the spbcalculator from the windows directory. the cinc_011.cab is for my operator, I might have to split into 2 builds if this takes off!
I just searched my entire kitchen for the Helvetica font, and I just don't see it anywhere. Did you install something else? Same for the x button, the one I have in there shouldn't pop up anything when you hit the "X" button, unless from the today screen (and mine seems to be fine from the today screen). Do you possibly have a sdconfig file to install things on 1st boot? This is uc compliant. Interesting, I'm not sure about these 2 issues.
And, I will look into skyfire. Maybe you'll convince me to switch!
Thanks for trying my rom, and for all the input! I will try to work on the issues and get another version up.

Now you got me confused I installed a couple of things but I don't think any of them installs Helvetica. Hmm. And I tried HTC x-button before. Never had this weird font issue. I will try to take some caps if I have some time.
By the way, these are only minor issues. The ROM is still quite fast, stable and functional.
Ok, I checked under /windows and appearantly there is no helvetica font. However, when I change font type from Office Word, I can see Courier New, HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin, HelveticaNeue LT 55 Roman, PDC and Tahoma. I know PDC is for Pocket Digital Clock and Tahoma is the default. But the other fonts, as far as I know are not default in WM6.1. Do they maybe come within Office?
I think the wierd font issue in htc x-button may be related with this PDC font. I remember some discussion about that font, that it messes up some applications. Am I the only one who has this problem? Weird.

Interesting! I just reflashed to v2, because I was testing (and bricked, then had to unbrick). All I see under fonts in office is Courier New, PDC, and Tahoma. I'll have to search for the Courier New (at a different computer right now). I don't have the issues, with the fonts that are in it right now, with x button. It kinda looks like something else might be installing the other fonts.
I'm also working on figuring out the extended rom so I can make a couple more things uninstallable.
USB to PC settings are under an icon entitled "Keypad QuickTasks". Why is the icon titled so? Default provider is "CBW" - that's easy enough for me to remove. Can you move HTCAlbum to Multimedia folder? Default Today shows double date info - one entry from Today and another from Pocket Digital Clock.
Trying to connect my Motorola S9 headphones produces "Problem with Bluetooth Hardware" message. That's one I've never seen before. (edit: BT is fine now. Apparently, I have to manually turn on BT in Com Mgr before attempting to find BT devices. I guess I'd never noticed the need for the extra step.)
Thanks for cooking this.
(edit: after using most of the day today, battery depletion seems excessive. From 100% battery to 67% battery after one 30 minute conversation with BT headset.)

Gyrator is a great app... with a load of functions but I found that I didn't really use any of them except the screen tilt/Gsensor function.
That said one of the problems I had with Gyrator is that it always stayed in my open apps which is not THAT big a deal, but would just annoy the crap out of my OCD brain!
Anyway I decided to make a different version for myself and anyone else who JUST wants the Screen tilt function.
This appliaction will:
- allow you to stop and start the screen switch as you please
- start up with your device if desired
- allow exceptions (Opera is an exception by default because it already uses the Gsensor)
* I recommend if you use Tomtom to add that in a well (to avoid the screen switching when you hit a bump!)
- NOT show up in the running programs list! (Most important thing to me!)
- You also do NOT need to install .NETCF 3.5 to use this. It should run fine on 2.0!

Damn, do you mean the screen got stuck like frozen or just wouldn't rotate back (like the app crashed)?
Works like a charm for me after I fixed the exclusion list. Rotates on everything that I want it to rotate on
works really well
and easier to config than gyrator.
great app

Great to hear it works on the HD! thanks for posing your findings!
600GOL,
Would like to say thanks. Just the thing I needed. All is well with my HD (had to soft-reset first--was crashing, returning to "Home"). Although Gyrator has its merits, it was too technical for me (simpleton and all). Your son has been fed.

Dude, thats great to hear! And I can't tell you how much I appreciate the donation! Any problems let me know. I'm working on a new version that will (hopefully) fix the "issues" that a few people have with version 1.54. I'll update the thread once its done!
Thanks again...
It worked well at first but then for unknown result when i tried my phone in landscape mode it immediately went back to portrait mode . I used 1.17 and 1.18 rom of pzuchel all gave me the same result. I'm happy to donate only when the soft is stable but i try all of the rotating software with the same result like above

If none of the apps work it MUST be something in the ROM... but what?! I really wish I had an HD so I could attepmt a solution! but unfortunately i don't...

Damn... is i just the sms app or does it act like that no matter what?
actually when it occured to sms it also happened to another software like opera when rotating even if when i configed changescreen to use rotate sms only
another issue here
When i use my HD in landscape mode to write a sms, the screen rotate itself to portait mode as soon as i push any key on the virtual keyboard.
is it because the application name "sms" change istself its name to "2/160", "3/160" ... ?
I try to enter "160" in the exclusion list but it didn't work.
(bad english sorry, i am french)
edit : 1/160 works but ... i dont feel like enter "1/160", "2/160" ... -> 160/160

Hi 600GOL, i am using pzucchel ROM V1.18+ () and indeed I noticed that if i exclude Manilla from rotation, the app keeps rotating Manilla anyway....where could be the issue?

Are you only rotating the exceptions? If you are you need to uncheck rotate manila. If not try adding "star" instead of "start" to the exceptions. Let me know if that helps. I should have a new version out for testing in a day or too also so check back!

[ROMS][KITCHEN][WWE][2/5/10] WM6.5 23102/24001/28014 - P3600/i - by The.Decoy OFFLINE

Due to personal issues, I will temporarily only be able to list The.Decoy's ROMs here. I am unable to cook for a bit. When I get a chance, I will be back to play with mods again. Enjoy His work as it appears to be shaping up nicely! Most of the information below needs some updating, so I will get to it soon as I can.
UPDATE!!! NEW ROMS & 6-IN-1 KITCHEN RELEASE
23102, 24001 & 28014 - Trinity & P3600i
PLEASE SEE POST #233 ON
THIS PAGE
Notice! The following specs are no longer accurate, but are probably very close:
P3600 Specs:
22.22MB Free Ram - After using all day, it settles in to 18-20MB
46.88MB Free Storage
P3600i Specs:
21.71MB Free Ram
13.84MB Free Storage - Ouch! I'll get this better. I need to selectively RecMod Packages, but currently figuring them out. Although, with your extra storage space on the i series, this may not be an issue, huh? It's sure a fast ROM this way.
These specs are from my P3600/Trinity with HexEdited, so not very accurate!! Can I get feedback on what you actually have on your P3600i's?

Kitchen and XIP/SYS were a joint effort from myself and The.Decoy. I had trouble with getting the XIP/SYS complete, and he helped me finish it so it worked. The Kitchen is The.Decoy's new Kitchen and my EXT parts combined.

FYI
The.Decoy is generous enough to look through my Kitchen for errors and will help me fix them. When that is done, I will release a better version. The first one was a test to see if I could make one boot.
I'll get back to you soon. Possibly tomorrow, even if the.decoy has not had a chance to go through it all, I will see about getting a Super Ultra Lite version out.
Then, after he gets a chance to look it over, I'm sure you will get some fun stuff.
Crossing Fingers
Anyone tried the P3600i version yet? Does it boot? Work? Crash?
OK, I decided to drop a Super Ultra Lite pre-version on you tonight. It's 2:00am here now, so I may have left something out. I'm going to bed now, but if you find anything wrong, or would like to see changes, please leave feedback and I will see what I can do when I'm awake agian.
Good Luck and Enjoy!

I'm not fully back on track, but I miss doing this stuff.
I don't know what to say about the WiFi issue. I'm recommending to everyone to only flash your ROMs AFTER going into the Windows Mobile Tri-Color Boot Screen. Power/Camera/Reset. My WiFi is still down on my Trinity, so I have no way of testing it on these releases. Hopefully, we will find a fix for the WiFi issue soon.

Which version are you running? The Beta Expiration has been removed, that text is only Text and can be removed through the Registry. I thought I had done that, but again, at 2:00am, I obviously missed something.
I'll try to put together a Cab file for those who have already downloaded this ROM and don't want to download a fixed version.

The Super Ultra Lite version does not have CHome. Also, I'm rebuilding and uploading the Kitchens, AutoFlash and RRU's right now. Should have them up within a couple hours. From the Kitchen, you can add remove any of those items. Custom ROMs. If you would rather not try cooking, then I will work it out for you.
I don't know how many personalized ROMs I can build, but if people can be patient, I will attempt to try a few. What I would be willing to do is start from the Blue version and drop anything people want left out. Adding things is a little more time consuming and might be done on a case by case basis, depending on the need. Some Packages I might already have and it would be easy to add them. Or, if you provide the package, that would help too. Not a cab, but an EXT Package.
First, I want to apologize if anybody had trouble downloading today.
I was amazed that there were over 200 downloads between 3am and 5pm Pacific time. Thank you everyone for checking these out.
I'd still like input on the P3600i versions as I have no real way to test them or see Bugs as you would on your phones (I'm on a Trinity). How's the Memory, Storage Space, Bugs, etc...?
The reason you MAY have had problems downloading was because I removed all the files from MediaFire and re-Cooked and re-Uploaded everything. I also restructured the MediaFire Mirror a little so it was easier to keep track of files from my end.
So, they are back up and rebuilt (Links in Post 1 & 2). Input would be nice if you get a chance. I've been speaking with The.Decoy and he's pointed out some issues I need to deal with, so hopefully I can understand everything he tells me and make these better.
Just for the record, The.Decoy is Incredibly Intelligent, it actually blows my mind what he knows (Many Levels Above My Understanding of All This). A good guy to hang out with, indeed.

I don't really know if there is one, and it's not that I'm videocalling all the time, actually it's my 4th or 5th phone with that capability and I used it only ONCE on my first phone just to see how it works but I'd like to have all phone features enabled whether I use them or not but I could live without it I guess still it's a bit weird that newer phones are stripped form that feature don't you think?
more important - what about EzKeyboard? imo it's as usable as FK but it takes less screen space so it's a bit more handy (for me ofcourse)

Ok, I have to agree. I've NEVER had the opportunity to use the Video Calling feature, but I also feel every available feature should work, Just In Case!
I'll see what I can do. I had a report that the video dialer in my 23504 Blue worked, so I'll try that here. I don't remembe if it disabled the Smart Dialing feature, but it might.
Could you tell us how to remove the beta warning ? or should we reinstall ?
+1 for EZInput especially since it includes predictive typing for foreign language user... would be great to be able to choose to use it... but fingerkeyboard is nice too !
I also wanted to report having a weird message about voice command stoping because lack of ram (I don't use voice command).
Since it's christmas time what about a weather plugin included or even better a preconfigured CDigitalClock :

[app]CBZ Reader

Hi everyone . This is my first try to make a WM application .
The CBZ files are compressed file made for reading comics .

This software allows you to read it from your WM 6 or 6.5 device ( I can't test it on other type on WM version ) .
The only requirement is have installed the CF 3.5 .
With your fingertip you can (scrolling from down to up ) zoom up to read better or zoom off ( scrolling from up to down ) or with the scroll from left to right go on with the page or come back ( from right to left ) .
You can download it from my website www.mmsoft.info or later from softpedia .
The software is of course freeware .
Let me know if you think of some new feature to add.

Does it support both cbr and cbz? How does it handle double pages and oes it do landscape mode?
1 question there is a website with comics to download?
Also would like to know if it handles CBR files as well
Does not support CBR. I don't want to complain about free software but its not usable on my HD2. Slow on loading files. Does not turn pages very easily. I suppose its okay for a first try but not a usable program as is.
Here are my suggestions.
1. Its gotta be fast and light.
2. Multi-touch zoom would be awesome
3. Finger Scrolling
4. Full screen support
5. Support for different screen orientations.
I know. A lot to ask for! But if you added those features you would have an awesome comic reader.
So far the best one right now is comic reader mobi, although its not free but worth the money they charge.

Work in progress .
For the other progress you found on your HDII device I don't understand .
It's slow in the page turn or it's slow to capture your finger gesture ?
It seems strange , on my OmniaII it takes some time for opening a comics but the finger move and the page turn is immediate .
The only thing comes to my mind is : What is the size of your image ? I explain myself better . I also have a Ebook reader device supporting the CBZ format so I resize the image inside the comics at 1024 X 768 before I start reading . Before doing that also my Eboor reader have some problem with some image due to the excessive size .

Just google Komics Live
Finger page turning isn't working on my Touch HD. On the main XDA page it says its in the program, but you say it's a work in progress so not sure which to believe.
It's a nice start but if you want ideas on a good way to implement extra features I suggest you look at Jim Chapman's Freda ebook reader (link here), as that is a very good piece of software for reading on devices.
Can you send me a mail with the cbz ? At webgandalf.soft[at]gmail.com ?
I don't think is a problem of the software but of the file you try to read .
Another thing . Read a Ebook and read a Ecomics isn't the same thing. An Ebook is made by text so is lighter but , when you read a comics , you open a bunch of image . If the image is too big you device may not do it . I can insert a code for the image resizing but , after that , the device must also use the cpu to do that .

Happy to hear about your free software, happier to know it's by an italian fellow! I am currently using the last free version of comic reader mobi which I kept since time past, and obviously it's more advanced in the sense that it manages also CBR, and has several automations like fitto fullscreen, zoom to 100%, preloading of next image, switch to next cbz/cbr volume when reached last page, and the nicest is the automatic lens that zooms in around the text, but I reckon that's also a version which was reached after a long path of development, while yours if fresh new, so best wishes with your work
Will be watching this thread to keep updated with the development!
Tried this but no go at all!
Hi!
Liked the idea so i installed and downloaded two different comics, but non of them worked, got some .NET issues and now i have uninstalled it.

Click to collapse
most roms have netcf 3.7 installed, so it's obvious th netcf3.5 installer complains... it's strange that the application installer complains about netcf3.5 anyway...
Hi people .
I passed few day to try to improve the CBZ Reader software but , onestly , I'm not this good as the publisher of the software linked before so I tried to take the problem from another point of view .
What is the software ready in EVERY possibile device of the year 2010 ? What software I'm sure to work when I take my phone out of the box the first time ?
The web browser .
I added to another my software the choice to export every image of the comics into an html file .
With this you not have the need to install anything on the device . Simply take the folder with the image of your comics and convert it into an Html structure .
Every image is full screen and every image is a link to the image after .
I think this can be a good compromise from reading , scrolling , zooming , rotate etc etc. All this function are natively present in a browser for phone .
I've tried to read the result in my Omnia II device and the result is good .
This feature is ready for the download on my Comics2Reader software . As the Cbz Reader also this is under freeware license so , if you want , give it a try .
Launch the conversion , copy the folder generated into your mobile device and click on index.html file to start reading .
You can find Comics2Reader on my website www.mmsoft.info.
In the next revision will probably present the possibility to convert directly a CBZ/CBR into an html file .
Ciao
Mauro
Sounds intereresting. I think you should look into maybe making a app that downloads/browses the comics directly from the scanlation sites like mangastream.com or mangafox without using an actual full browser. It can zoom in or view the page full screen. They have similar apps for andriod but not WM. I usually dont download the cbz as its much easier to just read it online.
