ActiveSync 4.5 Error in Windows CE setup files - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hello all,
For some reason, activesync 4.5 is refusing to install applications: when I run an application installer on my PC, it comes up with :
"Error in Windows CE setup files: Application manager cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an error in the set-up file. reinstall and try again".
If I copy a cab file on the Htc touch HD and run it from there, everything works fine.
It seems that something has been corrupted in Activesync software.
So I tried to reinstall several times without the firewall and antivirus, after deleting all the temps files (%temp%) and deleting partnership documents files, also after deleting system32/RAPI.dll but the "Error in Windows CE setup files" still appears.
Does anybody knows about this specific problem? And how to fix it ?
Looking in forums for a week I didn't find that kind off troubble solved.
I have Activesync 4.5 on windows XP pack3 (before, activesync 4.2 worked very well with an XDA II- Qtek2020)
Thank you very much !

Activesync not working after WM 5 installation

I have installed WM 5 on my XDA IIs about three hours back and since then trying very hard to make Activesync recognize my device. But alas!!! no luck...
When I put the device in the cradle, the Windows XP on my laptop detects a new device "Windows Mobile-Based Device" and asks me to install a driver. Ashtonishingly, the driver is not found automatically. So I tried for some time and found that it is looking for a file - rndismpx.sys. I searched my laptop for this file and found the file to be in \Windows\system32\drivers directory. I gave the path in the installation, but the installation aborts saying that the file is not found...
I have done the settings that the Wiki site said. But even after that my device is not being recognized by my laptop.
Any insights as to why is this happening... I did try and search the forum, but could not find anything specific.
Thanks,
Siddharth
Are you sure you're running Activesync 4.1 instead of 3.8?
I had the same problem too. But I didn t found a solution. Please help me too.

Running an application

Hi guys,
I'm trying to run a regedit program on my 02 XDA 11s.
I have tried several, and when I try to run the setup or exe I get the following message:
"There is no application associated with SETUP. Run the application first then open this file from within the application"
Any ideas, it must be something simple as I have tried several different programs and all experience this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Rob.
whats the file type ?
cab
exe if it's exe you should make sure it's not a pc activesync install
if it's zip
or rar
you should make sure that you have a unpacker for those 2
I think the program I tried to run was not for my mobile device.
Is there a stand-alone regedit program avaiable that I can download.
Thanks,
Rob.

Many thanks.
I think I need to connect via the Sync cable and use the ActiceSync cable as most applications seem to have to be installed this way.
Thanks,
Rob.

www.migsoft.co.uk virus

i had got email my unlock files but when i try 2 open the software windows restart or some time crash what to do plz reply me fast
the file is VOXv1aUnlock this have virus i had try diffrent computer but same problem
It sounds like you use an UNPATCHED Windows XP SP2 installation in combination with ActiveSync4.5 (you never installed any CRITICAL Microsoft BUG fixes).
Windows XP/SP2 has a bug which causes a blue screen/reboot when an application uses ActiveSync4.5 to communicate with a device.
Solution: Use Windows update and install at least the CRITICAL bug fixes or as minimum install this patch from Microsoft:

Sync Problems after Vista SP1

For the last week, I have been having problems syncing my Hermes to my desktop and my laptop. WMDC shows either a simple 'Error' or says that syncing is not possible because an item is in use on the PC (not true).
I tried all of the usual fixes mentioned elsewhere - Deleting the partnership on the Hermes, deleting it on the PCs, reinstalling WMDC, re-flashing my Hermes ROM.
I could usually get the Hermes to resync after using some or all of those actions, but only for one or two times, then I would get an error message again.
My problem exists with Schap's 4.31 and TNT's 6.1.
This started to occur immediately after I installed SP1 on my Vista desktop and laptop.
Is anyone else having sync problems with SP1?
Another reason for my Vista not to see that SP1, new Ubuntu comes out soon...
If some "item" is in use, can you move all your synchronized files out of that folder before the sync?
double post. sorry
I had the same problem. After downloading the new ver. of windows mobile from ms home page, everything went back to normal
Don't know if this will help or not, but I had the same problem, noticed that my battery was not very charged (under 30%). After charging i have not had this problem. I have been able to reproduce this twice now. I have Faria 6.1.
Radical_MT, could you please point everyone to the "new ver. of windows mobile"?

[Q] Sync Issue: TP2 WM6.5 - Activesync 4.5 - MSO-2010

Previously syncing Activesync v4.5 with TP2 running WM6.5 for over a year successfully. Transitioned from MSO-2003 to MSO-2007 with no sync issues.
After fresh install of MSO-2010 TP2 will no longer recognizes that my computer has MS-Office installed. Phone connects to computer via USB, file transfer to both internal HDD and also mini-SD-card for phone work. Running Activesync Troubleshooter tells me there’s no Outlook installed on computer (but there is as fully working version of MSO-2010). Have removed/reinstalled Activesync v4.5 multiple times (with reboots after uninstalls). Seems there must be some type of association file that is somehow out of place …
Appreciate any help from you guys ....
Regards,
Install Office 2010 x86.
"Install Office 2010 x86"
thanks, but ...
MSO-2010 (MS Office-2010x86 in my case tunning 32bitOS) is when my problems began, and I have already removed and reinstalled MSO-2010 a couple times attempting to solve my problem.
Uch, so I don't know the answer to your problems. I just know that x64 causes issues with "Outlook not found" as mentioned at MSDN.
Jackos,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Software compatability is one of a number of reasons I have still decided to stay away from a 64bit OS install.
regards,
