Got my TP2, not sure you are having the same strange thing like me.
When I take out my TP2 from the magnet pouch, it will turn on itself.
I know you might think i accidently pressed some button... .. so i do a test and turn off my TP2 as usual and then just move my pouch back and fort next to my phone, and it turn on again.
Now I have to use a non-magnetive pouch.
Do you having the same experience?
Like old crackberrys when taking out of the belt clip it turns on...

Maybe it is good too, beside you going to turn it on anyway when you took it out from your pouch :> ... So it turn it on for you.

I've also noticed this but I'm not using the magnetic case as I need a belt clip, I'm using the old case from my Tytn2 which has a velcro closure. I also thought it was a clever feature like the way the light sensor turns off the touchscreen when you hold the phone to your ear when in a call.

Good. I am not alone.
I think I have this figured out.
I think the keyboard uses a magnet to detect when it is deployed, and that is what is being tripped by the cases' magnetic clasp.
After playing about with the case, trying to find all the ways to turn my TP2 on with it, (never turns on inside the case, mine is nowhere near as magnetic on the inside as it is on the outside) i found that the magnet can also rotate the screen disabling the onscreen input at the same time, just like when the keyboard is deployed.
If my theory is correct, then if you can find a way to disable the power on with keyboard slide (has anyone figured this out already?) then your problems with the case should be solved.
Or you could try and demagnetising the magnet a bit, perhaps your magnet is mega-powerful and thats why its able to trip the sensor while inside the pouch.
Same kind of problem here, that keylock opens when device it put to holster. And I have got couple of "angry" calls about "can't you use the keylock".
Luckily this "slide to unlock" keylock works little better, but still isn't the best solution.

Strangely though, it does seem to happen on my friends Vodafone branded TP2...
Oh, and off course the "nicest" thing is, that puches that came with TyTN2 and Touch Pro2 (and TyTN, if I remember correctly) contains magnets that open keylock/turn power on. Maybe there should have been little more thinking/hardware testing when that kind of accesories are decided to put in package.
And otherwise Touch Pro2's pouch is pretty useless, because it doesn't have belt clip, and it's "too thick" (compared to eg. Nokia's E71 pouch) to use with phone just in pocket.

Just curious, try to enable the sliding sound, And you'll notice that when you put magnet on it, the sound plays.
Maybe the magnet triggers some sort of keyboard sensor..
anyone knows how to keep the phone standby even if the keyboard is opened?
Mine does not switch on when I take it out of the pouch. But it does switch on when I wave the pouch over the bottom corner like in the video.
I usually put the TP2 LCD facing in, but I tried with it facing out and it still does not switch on... strange
BTW, I feel the original case that came with the unit is too tight. Kinda hard for me to take the phone out. I'm using the original TyTn 2 case. A little loose, but can be tightened with the velcro...

mines turns on as well. i have a vertical type case. when i place the tp2 into the pouch it cuts on. if i place it in upside down it doesnt. seems odd that orientation affects it...

I think Ghostifish has this thing completely figured out. There's definitely magnets inside the phone. I discovered this one by putting my phone down on my desk at work close to a couple of paper clips. When I picked it up, it grabbed the clips with it!! Four of them to be exact. At first I was a little started (thinking jeez, the magnetic fields off this thing must be frying my brain! ) But then realized that it was probably a lot like my i760 which also used a magnetic retention mechanism to hold the phone open or closed instead of a spring that would be prone to breaking.

Has anyone had any problems with the little plastic USB port protector on the bottom of the Dash? I've only had my Dash for a few days, charged it twice, and haven't really used it (waiting for a screen protector), and the plastic where the protector connects to the body is already beginning to split. It seems one or two more openings of the protector and it will break right off. It's nice to protect the chrome and all on the phone, but kind of gets in the way to have to open and close it every time you want to charge the phone. However, I don't like having something new I just purchased brake off so quickly and easily. Honestly, I've only opened and closed the thing about three times, so either my Dash is a dud, or by the looks of it's design, there's no way HTC could intend it to last more than a week or two for anyone because of a pretty obvious design flaw (too thin connector to withstand the opening and closing). Has anyone else noticed this?
I think I read somewhere that the Excalibur or the S620 doesn't come with the port protector (just the Dash). Is this correct? Also, has anyone unscrewed the back of their Dash yet and know whether the protector can be replaced with a new one easily if it cracks off? Anyway, nice idea, poor design! I love the phone though!
Love the Dash -- hate it's connectivity ports. For headphones, you have to pull that protector loose to plug in the giant adaptor that lets you use regular headphones. While it's in there, the microphone is cut so you can't make or receive calls, or charge the phone while using headsets. They should've designed it so no protector was needed, or at the very least, incorporated a standard headphone jack which didn't require pulling back the protector. Right after I got the phone, I realized that protector was most likely something temporary, can't see it lasting long...
Have had my S620 for a couple of weeks now and no issues with the protector other than it is just annoying. I will probably remove it as soon as I find a descent (or any) desktop cradle on the market.

The bottom of mine seems to be split, but I think it comes like to make it a little looser and easier to open. I wouldn't be too worried about it. If anything, they'll send you a new one since it should be covered in the warranty.

Really? Hmm, maybe the split was intentionally done by HTC and my Dash is not breaking after all. Has anyone else noticed if your Dash/Excalibur has this split?

I new that I would hate it; so Pulled it of as soon as I got it out of the box.
Once its off, it looks like it was never supposed to have anything there in the first place.

I have situations sometimes when Pro2 starts making multiple slider activation sounds (which I have enabled in Windows settings), where as the actual slider in not moving. I cannot see what happens on the screen during this because it sits in my pouch, but it is always unlocked when I get it out.
When I try to actually use slider, the sound only goes of when slider is half-way through! While when in pouch, it is slider is completely static.
Anyone else is seeing this, it bugs me as hell. I installed custom locking application, but it is set to unlock on slider events (which is what I want), and thus the device unlocks when this starts happening.
I am starting to suspect G Sensor, but so far could not repro this issue manually, with device outside of belt pouch.
If you have a case with a magnetic latch, this may be your problem. We discovered that when the phone is passed over the magnet in the latch, it will unlock the phone and activate the display and slider sound.

Not all magnetic pouches make the phone go nuts. I have 2 magnetic ones and neither one turn it on when I put it in or take it out of the case.

Try an experiment. Run the bottom of your phone (where your talk and end keys are at) close to the magnetic latch and see if it unlocks it.
We discovered that it also changed some settings.
If i run the magnet over the phone like that it turns it on, but putting the phone in and out of the case don't.
I was having issues with the magnet in my phone case actually turning on the screen, and taking off the keylock! Pretty crazy, but it was happening. In order to fix this I had to disable the phone from waking up when the keyboard is slid out...not a big deal, I never slid the keyboard out unless the screen was on anyway. The problem is solved.
My question is will this have any negative effect on the phone? Will the magnet in the case mess with the accelerometer or g-sensor? I would hate for the case to cause future issues.

I don't know about the accelerometer, but in my phone it seems to mess with the stylus sensor, and turn the phone on and unlock it.
The stylus sensor on the TP2 is not magnetic, but the keyboard slide sensor is. That is why magnets turn the phone on.

Not on mine - I have the universal one and that one has no magnetic unlock mechanism.
As far as I know the G-sensor has nothing to do with magnets and cannot be interfered by magnets. (Have a magnetic button on my shield)
Anytime I turn on the phone after taking it out of the case it thinks it's in lanscape mode. I had to turn off the option of having the phone turn on when the keyboard is slid out.
What I'm wondering is if the magnet in my case will effect this sensor or anything else in the phone?

In short the answer is no. It is in landscape mode because you take the phone out past the magnets to get it out of the holder. There is a magnet in the keyboard sliding mechanism that is used to trigger landscape mode when you slide it out. When you pull it out of the holder the phone thinks you have opened keyboard and goes into landscape mode. In a few seconds when it realizes that you havent opened the keyboard, it goes back to regular mode.
Hope this helps clarify things. Bottom line is that the holder will not do anything negative to phone or degrade its performance in any way. I have two factory HTC cases that both have magnets in them from my Kaisers. Even HTC wouldnt ship somthing that was bad for the phone with them.

Sounds good, thanks for the explanation. I knew it was the magnet playing w/ the KB sensor, but I just wasn't sure if it would have any negative effect on the phone itself. It looks as though it will not!

What's the best way to stop the phone answering calls when I open my case (it has a magnetic catch)? I went to add SlideWakeup = 0 in the registry, but it's already there.
I'm running S2U2, latest version if that makes a difference.

I run s2u2 also, no issues when I pull it out...other than the screen is on, which is no big deal, but the screen is still locked.

I'm running WinMo 6.5, and it's great. I've made a few tweaks and such, and I'd like to get away from any "Lock" type programs since the WinMo 6.5 lock seems to do what I need it to, however, it's unlocking itself from inside my case!
I installed LockDevice, which is doing a great job of locking the device, however, when I put my phone into my leather case/holster, it unlocks O_O.
It's an HTC leather holster. It uses magnets to keep shut. I'm wondering if the magnets are what's causing it to unlock. It did the same thing in WinMo 6.1 as well.
Could the magnets be causing the phone to unlock? It's driving me nuts!

Well, I think the magnets are making the phone think the keyboard is opening. I just tried taking it out of the holster by pushing it out from the bottom, and it did not turn on and unlock.

I keep playing with it, and I think the problem is that the slightest opening makes it switch to landscape, which causes it to unlock.
With WinMo 6.1, I used to have S2U2, and I would pull out my phone and see that it was usually in landscape, to which it would go back to portrait after about a second.
Is there a way to make it so that sliding open the keyboard doesn't wake the device up?
I tried a few of cabs and the registry edit I found via google (on xda-dev and a one on PPCGeeks), but no luck.
Same problem. Sliding the keyboard open wakes up and unlocks the device.

We made note of this in the Tilt 2 review but each model has a slight oddity in that if the USB port comes into contact with a magnet (say, from a cell phone case) the screen will turn on. The Touch Pro 2 has an internal magnet that is used to activate the screen when the stylus is withdrawn from the Windows phone. It's simply a case of magnets being magnets.

I noticed that when I rubbed the phone against the case, it would unlock, even without moving the screen at all and forcing it shut (I went as far as using scotch tape to hold it shut while I took it out of my case), but the phone insisted on "rotating" as if I had opened the keyboard.
I will try to find a case without magnets, but in the meantime, is there a registry entry that will disable that "feature" in regards to the stylus coming out? It seems logical that if you could turn that off, it would fix the problem.

I would love it if some one would be able to do an idiots guide into how to turn off mangentic sensors .... My phone has now billed me 3x my normal monthly usage this month due to it going off in my pocket lock on!

As far as I know this always works on TmoUSA TP2s, though I don't know about other versions.
This is a well-known and well-documented issue -- it was discovered early this summer when the Euro/International version came out...though maybe different versions are affected differently.
The registry fix doesnt work, as I applied that long ago. My apologies, I thought I was clear by pointing the solution at Pumpiron579.
Interestingly enough, it still unlocks when I slide the keyboard open, but it will unlock if I wave a magnet from the holster / pouch in front of the screen.
So, I either buy a new pouch, be more careful, or find a fix.

I dropped my Touch Pro 2 in fresh water. No insurance of course and no more discount from T-mobile to buy a new phone.
Following video instructions on youtube I disassembled it, I believe without breaking anything.
The LCD screen was gone (water inside), and I bought a new one in eBay.
Once I received it I reassambled the phone. Evertyhting seems to work fine but... the screen is stuck in landscape!
Of course I did soft and hard reset, tried to play / disable the G-sensor and orientation sensor, nothing: I believe it has to do with some switch that recognize when the keyboard is slide open, but I have no idea what sensor is it, I can't find any mechanism that resemble a micro switch or a mini magnet related to the opening / closing of the keyboard. Instead I find a microswitch that senses when the pen is inside, but nothing about the screen.
Any suggestion, does anybody here have any hardware knowledge on this topic? I tried to use software like Gyrator 2 which put a patch on the problem, but I would rather fix the hardware first: perhaps I did not mount something correctly, where is this sensor, is it magnetic or microswitch, I can't see anything even with lenses on.

I have exactly same problem, my TP2 is stuck in landscape mode. I bought TP2 in the US. My housing was broken so I bought a new one in europe the oem one with lcd screen and digitizer... Could this make the problem?

The sensor must be in the screen-half of the phone underneath where the red "end call" button is. This is demonstrated if a healthy phone is slid open, and then you pass a small magnet underneath the screen in that area, screen will flip between portrait and landscape.
Which yes I did the same thing today and it was your post randell that helped me. All you need to do is go to walmart purchase the smallest but most powerful smallest magnet you can find. cut you a piece of it, superglue it to the bottom right corner. worked like a charm.
or if you wanted to open your case back up like i did you can superglue it on the inside lol. If you look at your old case you will find your old magnet you can use. simple easy just thought id let you know k bye ta ta.

I was on here by chance and I had the same issue when I replaced my digitizer on my TP2 a year ago. I could never figure it out so I bit bullet and brought a new phone. I will try this when I get home and if it works be great because i loved that phone soo much when I had it thanks guys!!
