[Theme] HeroMod for JF 1.51ADP [17/July/09] - G1 Themes and Wallpapers

Hi all,
First off this is my first theme so please, please go easy on me This was initially just made for myself however I thought that after ‘taking’ lots of info from you guys here I would like pass back my new found knowledge.
Most importantly I need to say my thanks.
The base theme comes from tehseano and moonsspoon production (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520629) So mostly all credit go to them.
Now it is most crucial that I thanks my teachers or those who have pointed me in the right direction. So in no particular order thanks to the following (hope I have not forgot anybody)
RichieDaze/Stericson/Ohsaka/Mianosm/beagz/brandenk/kizer/alritewhadeva and so many more.
So on with the Theme…
What’s included?
- 5 Home Screens
- Auto Rotate on Home Screen
- Hero Transition/Animation Effects
- Hero Analog Clock (customised)
- Hero Title Bar
- Hero Music App + Widget
- HTC Camera (with Zoom) & Gallery
- Built in Host File to Block Unwanted Mobile Ads (thanks to Adfree on the Market)
- Hero Style LockScreen
- Edited Icons
- Built in and Customised Widgets (thanks to CurveFish)
- Many, Many Image Edits
- Much, Much More.
Supported Roms
This is designed and only tested to work with the following Roms,
- JF v1.51 CRB43 ADP1.5 which can be located here: http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/24/jfv151-images-are-out/
I do however believe this may work on other ROMs but you will have to test these on your own.
How To Install
- Wipe and install the above Rom so you have a clean slate (Not needed but highly recommended)
- Remove any icons on the 2nd (middle) and 3rd (currently right) screens.
- Uninstall Google Maps if you have the updated version available on the market.
- Flash the update.zip from the downloadable link
- Allow the phone to boot. This may take over five minutes on the first boot.
Removing the previous JF APK’s
Now we need to remove the JF APK’s that are no long needed.
- Run Terminal after the theme has been applied.
- Type the following,
Line 1: SU (hit enter)
Line 2: Mount –o rw,remount –t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock03 /system (hit enter)
Line 3:rm –r /system/app/********
Please replace the *’s from above with the name of the APK for example,
- Music.apk
- Maps.apk
- VoiceDialer.apk
- Anything else your after .APK

FAQ Provided by tehseano and moonsspoon
1.) You do such great work, like, omg! How can I help?
Well since you can't email prostitutes, any donations would help greatly. There's a link in my signature if you'd like to donate. If you can't do that, then download the file below from Rapidshare.com. Make sure to download it as a free user (if you have a premium account). This will at least help me continue my Premium account. There's nothing special about it, just a 10mb picture, and it doesn't cost you a dime
LINK: http://rapidshare.com/files/252048497/donate.zip
2.) Will you support other ROM's like Cyanogen's, or TheDude's?
I will not port my theme to any other ROM until it is finished. I don't want to have to make updates for 7 different builds, and continuously update each one. So once the theme is finished, I will begin porting it to other ROM's, for the mean time please stop asking when I will port it to xx ROM. Other users have begun porting my theme, use the search function and I'm sure you'll find support for another ROM.
3.) Can you port over the xxxx app from Hero?
We're lucky that the apps that have been ported over worked. Most of the apps from Hero require certain libraries from the Hero build environment, and won't work on any build BUT Hero. If any get ported over, you will see them here.
4.) I flashed the theme, but now all I can see is the status bar, everything else is black!
As mentioned in the installation instructions, you need to clear the 2nd and 3rd screens on your desktop of any icons. The new Hero clock takes up more space, and if the space it needs is already taken, you will get a black screen like so.
5.) I have two music apps, did something go wrong?
On the contrary, the new HTC Music app does not overwrite the standard Music app. The Music app with the updated icon is the HTC Music app. You can remove the old one via ADB by doing the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm -r /system/app/Music.apk
6.) I'm running Cyanogen's x.x.x build and it removed xxxxx feature!!
As I mentioned, I am ONLY supporting JF Builds at the moment. There are features I would like to incorporate, but they take time. So please be patient, and allow me to work on fixing the problems. Many users take it upon themselves to make temporary fixes for the problem, so read up on the issue before replying about it.
7.) My camera is in black and white, WTF!!!
It's just a setting issue from the previous Camera app. Simply hit Menu > Reset to Defaults, and you should be right as rain.
8.) When in landscape mode, the lockscreen looks funny!
Meh, yeah. I didn't even know the lockscreen worked in landscape mode, so I was surprised anyone noticed it either. I don't have any plans on fixing it really, it looks sick in portrait mode, and thats where you see it 99% of the time. MAYBE, I'll fix it later? But don't expect it anytime soon, sorry.
9.) When I turn the orientation setting off, my home screen still rotates. WHAT THE FRONT DOOR!!!
Yeah I know, it's being worked on. In the mean time, don't try and look at your phone sideways!

To Come
- Reboot option from power menu

Please post any Errors you receive and I will fix them I’m sure there are a few dodgy images within.

Hope you enjoy the theme

It looks awesome but I have last cyanogen and so I cannot try it

Works very well on The Dudes Cupcake 1.3RC2

Yay!!!! SomeOne is finally working on this theme!
Why is the Clicked as Blue? You need to make it green!

If someone else can also confirm i will add to the supported rom list.

Is there anyway you can get this to run with CM3.6.7.2 by chance?

im not sure if you missed it but in the FAQ portion of the op, he says he wont be doing any ports. im runnin CM as well but i doubt this will work properly on 3.6.7.2 because of the added features to the rom that even themes for the older CM roms wont work on the new build. none the less good looking theme. any screen shots of the "Hero Music App + Widget"
is this the actual hero widget or just the app and upgrade look on the stock widget? cause the hero music widget looks dope.

The icons are blue when the HTC Hero icons are green

I kind of like the blue...maybe darken it a little...but that glow looks nice to me.

Looks GREAT... keep up the good work.
I'm still trying to mod the US cupcake to have the ADP versions features, like 5 home screens and a customizable lock screen.
Since most of the modified roms are based ADP, it's a good challenge though. Maybe someones with higher knowledge can help me one day.
But, you blew right passed me...

i followed directions, any help?
So I cleared all icons and unitstalled maps, did a wipe and flash, and screen is still black, what are my options, thanks

Ok what you need to do is boot in a plain JF build, clear the home screens icons and widgets, and then apply this theme.

I did not get this to work on JFv1.51_CRB43-US at all. Just wiped and installed JFv1.50_ADP1.5 and its worked, currently at the bootscreen.
But with the other build I tried the 1.51 it unzipped and verified the packed, said it installed and everything said the update was complete but it didn't work at all.
Maybe its because I'm using Cyans recovery image.
But still.
I think I will like this theme.
But I believe I will much rather use it on cyans build.
Haven't tested it out yet but I'm hoping auto rotate can be enabled.
Booted up, hello android dev phone with a baby blue android!

|EXCA|ROM|WWE| ** EnergyROM Series 1.0 21048 - HTC Snap based ROM ** || Build 52409 |

Hi and welcome to my ROM thread. This is RC2 (release candidate 2) of my Snap based ROM for the Excalibur (Dash, Dopod, etc).
The XIP (kernel) and SYS (main system files) are directly ported from HTC newest handset, the Snap.
This ROM includes only the stock applications for now (with the exception of a few things, like omapclockset and celetask) as it's meant to be a community based ROM where we can ALL work together, chip in and make suggestions to make the fastest and best ROM for the Excalibur.
To activate the weather panel, use the Activate Weather.cab in the "\My documents" folder on the phone and reboot.
The pagepool is set at 8 megs (up from the stock 4) for better speed and general "snappiness". You can lower it yourself by using the pagepool_changer application on the ROM's nbh file. I like mine at 8 and could care less about available RAM as long as the phone is fast and responsive
I will add more as more feedback is provided, but for now let's test this first release and see how it performs I hope you like it.
-------------------------------------------------------
Release 52409

Added back Enterprise and VPN features
Added HTC Startup Sound
jogbar icon hidden now
IE6 is now in the ROM with lots more options to play with
Added SMS inbox threading to switch from classic/threaded under Tweaks

INSTRUCTIONS for flashing:
You can look at this great guide found here or you can follow my instructions below...
Hell, look at both to make sure you're doing this right!!
1. Run Auto.bat included in the archive. It should resent a black command prompt window.
2. Make sure you remove your storage card from the phone before the next steps.
3 .Follow the instructions in the black window. Do NOT reboot when the SDA unlocker tells you to reboot the phone. It's not necessary.
4. You might get a prompt asking you if you want to run the spl program. Just say yes. At that point you should get a white screen.
5. If for any reason you're not seeing a white screen, you did something wrong and you need to try again.
6. Flash the ROM following the instructions in the flashing utility.
You can expect the phone to be "stuck" on the green windows mobile screen for about 2 1/2 minutes the first time. After that, it should only take about 40-45 seconds for the phone to reboot.
INSTRUCTIONS for recovery in case something goes wrong:
Turn your phone completely off. While pushing the camera button, plug in your usb cable. The tricolor, bootloader screen will come up and you can flash your regular OEM ROM which can be downloaded from one of the stickies.
I recommend flashing the modified bootloader made by jockeyw2001. It's attached to the third post.
What it does is, it CID unlocks your phone, so you don't have to use the softSPL everytime you want to flash a ROM. It also makes recovery from a bad flash much easier, where you dont have to hunt for your original manufacturer's ROM to load in order to resurect the phone.

I recommend flashing the hacked bootloader attached to this post to make future flashings easier, as there will probably be many revisions to this ROM (depending on YOUR input).

Nice! Now if only my replacement battery would get here already!
Two questions... (1) what version of Java is it running, (2) does Innercircle work?
the transparency menu looks pretty slick!
Thanks a lot NRGZ28!!
For bringing a new life to S621!
Will test and report soon as I can...
Cheers,
Thanks NRGZ28 !
Can't wait to test it..

Jeodek stock.. I know.. I'll change it in the next build
And yes, innercircle works
However YouTube and the Album don't... so we'll see about that :/
Tnx for this rom NRGZ28!
Just one things:
1) How about the clock into top bar? (into left of battery when i go into options....);
2) Can u add a CHOME Slim?
Tnx in advance for the answer!
I will add those if I can find them anymore. Anybody got a cab for the am/pm version of clockontop ?
Hi NRGZ,
I've been using your ROM's for a while, this looks fine, a couple of issues,
1- No bluetooth
2- Wifi doesn't work, wifiinit is on the startup but once you try to activate it hangs in there
This if you use the connection manager on the panel if you go to the start menu and use the connection manager it works fine both of them
Thanks for your hard work
Enrique
Sadly I don't have an operable phone to test at the moment... to those of you who have flashed... how does it run compared to the Rose roms?
good
its real good but there is one thing you cant add my favs anymore like 1.7 and other thing that we could add before from chome?????
few minutes after first flash and look...
Looks really great Boot fast, seeking network fast, ROM fast as hell
Settings>Phone>Band select didn't work
Frozen when Menu>Contacts>Add contact, after remove battery works fine.
After change HTC Panel to Sliding panel and restart, change back to HTC Panel in 5 min...
BTW seems to be great ROM
My Regards
Great Work
This is by far the most asthetically pleasing rom i have used yet. i have to use my phone for business so have already flashed back for now but i cant wait for the final realease ha. as for bugs the only ones i found were that streaming media had no visual when playing and i could not get a data conection when trying to use opera mini but ie worked fine.Oh and also i could not use the NRG rinku cab either just fyi.

Yeah, there's no band select because this isn't a 3G phone, so there's no bands to select really. I will remove that option in the next version
Flashing now. I'll report with any issues that I find. Looks great though.
Since you're taking input... is there any chance you could include BaseHue, Resco Explorer and the SMSToolPack? The first two I use extensively, and the SMSToolPack would just be a "nice to have" since we all love flashing ROMs so much.
Also, does the HTC Sliding Panel homescreen pull the panel icons from bronzeres.dll?
On a sidenote, I actually took a look at your ROMs for the Raphael and was floored. I'm not surprised to see such an aesthetically pleasing ROM find it's way to our phones.

* It is adviced to do a nandroid backup. (My opinion: if you root your device always do a nandroid backup of your system files )
* If you didn't make a nandroid backup and you had *USB Debugging* turned on, try the method described at the end of this post if you are running into troubles.
Recovery Procedure
In case you didn't make a nandroid backup and you can't reboot your device because you applied a mod for a wrong version, here's a simple way out: (Thanks to boisrobe!)
Open SuperOneClick and choose "Shell Root"
Start ADB, wait for the # prompt and enter the following commands:
#busybox mount -o remount,rw /system (or mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system ... if there's no busybox)
#rm /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#chown root.root /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
#reboot
Changelog:
v1.1.2:
v1.1.1: Mandatory Update! (changed the way icons are fetched
v1.1: added icon preview
v1.0: release

There is certainly no need for reflash after bad framework-res.apk copy.
What an user needs to do is to backup original file and then use ULK kernel's feature -> Modified CWM. U can adb push the old file to system/framework from there. (just first solution which crossed my mind)

GREAT! When the user runs the app for the first time, a backup of the original framework-res.apk is made in the root of the sdcard.
Note for users who are currently running a mod. Restore the original file before you are going to run this version. (Or get a original framework-res.apk for your rom in kalpik's thread)
If there is a backup on the root of the sdcard and u have ULK kernel installed, and user has a ADB connection available:
- boot into CWM recovery,
- select "mounts and storage",
- select "mount /mnt/sdcard",
- connect the USB cable,
- open adb shell connection
- type "cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk" (the second argument is backup file)
- reboot, should be fixed.
At the moment the app replaces the current framework-res.apk?
What about opening the .apk and just replace the few icons you want to change, so you will be able to combine many mods. Would be awesome.

Yep, I agree. But on the other hand, there's so much work done already on this by modders, that I don't see the point of reinventing the wheel. I think it's better this way. Modders can work independently and if they wish they can make their modded framework-res.apk available for this app in a fairly easy way.
It's a more pragmatic.
BTW one can make all kinds of modded framework-res.apk's available this way.
Feedback
I see that there are many downloads yet, but I don't see any reports. May I infer from this that the app is working without any problems? Or are you guys still figuring out how to get your device working again

Thanks for testing!! I couldn't test the app myself all the way, because, like I said, I've sold my SGS. Although I really did like this phone, I had a unexplainable urge to go for the newest, hottest kid on the block, the Desire HD.
I based the code on the other app I made and that was tested to run without any problems, but yeah, you never know. I guess I can reduce all the warning signs in the first post a bit then

It's the battery icon of the Desire HD. The battery color fits with the other colors used by the DHD (selection color, color of for example checkboxes etc.) I don't know if it matches also with the blue theme of the Galaxy S. Anyway I can extract the battery icons and post them here. Maybe others can mod them for the SGS.
Great Work
It's work very well on JPO (CSC XEU)
Thanks

The colors don't fit well on SGS' original theme, but there's a lot of people using moded ROM's with grey themes. Also, most of the battery mods available look like a rainbow, to many colors.
I was looking around on the Desire forums and noticed that those icons are from the original ROM, and I remembered sawing a grey version of that.

It's from the Captivate forums, and I think it could add a good mod to the ones available

Here is my new theme- I have been using it myself on my Nexus One for a month or so now. I grabbed some images from a theme by JaiThemes (if you appreciate my work please buy one of his cheap themes on the market) and edited them to how I liked them. Then I combined in some of my own images plus some xml edits.
It is CMMOD flavour. It is still WIP and isn't a complete theme yet- only the main
So here it is- a metamorph- please use metamorph by Stericson from the market- makes theming so much easier. I have found that applying each apk one at a time is more reliable, and increasing metamorph delay in settings makes the whole morphing process a hell of a lot easier. To get the clock, notification text etc the correct colour, after applying all parts of the metamorph you need to go into CM Settings, then User interface, then tweaks extras and select this theme form the dropdown menu
MEDIAFIRE LINK:
CMMOD_HD2_Theme
Experimental v2.0
CMMOD_HD2_v2.0.zip
I have also done a CMMOD ADW theme- works well on ADW EX as well of course- although I think Anderwebs has changed the name of the folders so adding folders on EX will give a stock folder at this stage. The thing is I hate using my home screen landscape so haven't done any landscape images properly- that is planned
CMMOD_ADW
If you prefer a clear GenieWidget then here it is- still CMMOD flavoured.
CMMOD_HD2_ClearGenie
If you use Better Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Pro I also have a theme on the market for that:
CMMOD_SmartKeyboardPro_Theme

If in clockwork it says copying System and this completes in around 3 seconds you have done something wrong or the zip has not transfered to sdcard correctly.

[Theme] LithiumMod Blueberry port (v.8)

First off I need to give credit where credit is due. Fisha21 blazed the trail with the first themed Uruk framework and did the hardwork of figuring out the steps to make it happen. Secondly, the themed pieces in this framework came mostly from JRummy16's blueberry LithiumMod so I claim absolutely no credit for that. There are other pieces picked up here and there, but I apologize for not knowing where they all came from.
This is mostly a complete work, but there is always room for improvement so I don't want to call it a 1.0. See the screenshots below for a small sample of what has been done, but there are many other tweaked images (something like 200-ish).
This is my first release to the public - normally I'd tweak things for my own personal use and never spread it around, but since there isn't a huge theme library for the Archos I thought I'd share for anybody that's interested. Constructive criticism is appreciated; if you find something that needs fixing please let me know and I can adjust it. I in no way think this work is perfect, but it's not too shabby in my opinion.

This will work on Uruk running off the SD or from the internal storage. Follow Fisha21's install steps:
"How to install
Needless to say, only attempt this if you are comfortable modifying system files. As we are using the SDE for this, the potential risk of bricking/ irreversible damage is low, but you should still have some idea what you're doing!
Just to clarify, I am using this on an UrukDroid 0.5 rooted Archos 101. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on any previous UrukDroid version, or other device sizes, but I haven't tested on any other configuration.
I know there are other (semi-permanent) root methods out there, and I know some people have UrukDroid running from their internal SD. I don't know how/if this will work with those setups, and I can't offer any advice/help for anyone wanting to try it in those setups. PROCEED CAREFULLY if you decide to try!
There are probably lots of other (neater) ways of doing this but this is the way I've found to work consistently for me.
All file manipulation on the device was done with Root Explorer.
1. Unzip the attached [bluep0rkframework-res.zip] to your SD card (the largest partition). Can be done directly on device, or over USB.
2. Find your original framework-res.apk (/system/framework) and back it up. I stored the backup in /system/framework.old, but its up to you - keep it safe! I would suggest keeping a copy on your computer also - you'll see why later!
3. Navigate to where you saved the new framework-res.apk, and change permissions to those shown in the screenshot below. I used the Root Explorer context menu, but those who prefer terminal commands, thats chmod 644.
4. Now MOVE (not copy) that .apk into the /system/framework folder. It will ask if you want to replace the existing file, just hit ok.
[p0rk burn: I'm not sure if my files will change color like Fisha's, but once you move it into the folder it should sit there for a while in RootExplorer - you will be able to scroll up and down but using the home key or any other buttons will not do anything - that means the new framework is loading, The rest of the setup should be like Fisha21 described: the screen will go black after a few minutes and sit for a little bit, before the homescreen loads back up.]
Now reboot the system.
The black screen after the UrukDroid screen may last a minute longer than normal, but just be patient. When it all comes back, you should see your new notification icons!
Once again, only do this if you are comfortable with editing system files. Though the risk of bricking is low, I can't offer any help if you do manage to kill your Archos!"

I had problems installing my own framework after updating to Uruk 0.6, which is also based in part on 2.1.04. Not sure if there was some change in the other contents of framework-res in the newer firmwares, but when I installed mine, I got into this loop where the soft buttons would appear on a black screen for a few seconds, disappear then reappear again. Is that what you experienced? I fixed mine by repacking my custom icons into a new framework-res extracted from the newest firmware.
Would you try installing my latest version from the theme forum, and see if that will work on your setup? I have also found a (hopefully) easier method, but it does require ADB.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to hijack p0rn burn's thread or encourage people to use my framework over his. It would just be interesting to see if changing the base framework-res did make a difference, or if I unknowingly did something else to fix things. I have PM'd p0rk burn about my findings as well, so hopefully we can get both versions working!
The more help the better. Ill try to get a new framework up on monday for the new fw. Im on uruk .6 now so i need it too.
As promised, I have uploaded the blue themed framework for Uruk .6. It is attached to the first post for those of you that are interested. Please make sure you use the proper one, otherwise you will have to fix it before being able to boot back into Uruk.
This one has the modified progress_horizontal.xml so the volume bar and other progress indicators are properly themed.
If I feel motivated (or think people would actually care) I'll see about tweaking this a bit more and/or doing some more ports.

I'll try the widgets on my end but I haven't had any of those issues. My guess is it has to do with the zImage because I don't think changing out .pngs would cause those issues, but definitely something worth looking at.
Thanks for the feedback.

you know, the blue market hack would fit perfectly to your theme ;-)
I know, I thought about throwing it in when I first started this but wanted to get a proof of concept first and then sort of forgot about it. With all the problems people have had with market installs on Uruk I was a little afraid to mess with it.
I'll see what I can do though.

hehe, i have the blue market (vs 2.3.3 from the xda thread) on the archos 101 now
i like the blue and its working
gonna see if it the blue and transparent market works too
Once again Fisha21 came through for the scene. If you want the blue market follow these steps. Should work with the other 2.3.3 markets, but I can't vouch for it personally. On the other hand, if you reached this point in tweaking your Archos fixing a botched vending mod probably doesn't scare you.

i shrinked your originally 9MB framework-res.apk by simply making all included archos-backgrounds unicolor (mostly about 250k -> 4k).
and making 2 times default wallpaper unicolor. (blue)
now its 6MB. i dont get why archos did this black pattern backgrounds anyway.
p0rk burn I'v been trying to mod the framework-res.apk myself. but just out of curiosity what tools do you use and how do do the modifications.

We're all familiar with the subtle cyan flash behind our soft keys, most of us are probably aware that its possible to change the color, but its also possible to change it to an image. I'm going to be making many more so please submit requests and ideas but here are just a couple and an example screenshot of it in action, keep in mind this is only when you actually press down the soft key, not a permanent background.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN
------------------------------------------------------
******************************************
I suggest creating a folder called softkeymods on your desktop, and in that make a new folder for all your different projects
because you can't change the zip file name without changing the xml, and since most of you probably don't want to do that, just do this, or ignore it and go your way
What I'm saying is you may create like 10 of your own zips with your own png's however the zip file name has to remain the same to work, so you won't be able to tell which is which etc., anyways lets do this. You can also do the same thing in your AndroidThemes folder at the root of your internal storage on the phone. Or if your daring, change the associate xml file to match the newly created zip file name if you wish.
1. open the downloaded zip in winzip/winrar etc.,
2. pull out the *.png down deep in the hierarchy
SystemUI > res > drawable-xhdpi > ic_sysbar_highlight.png
3. take the ic_sysbar_highlight.png and open it in your favorite image editing software... I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro
4. Get creative drag things in like other images, etc., just remember whatever you leave blank on the png, stays blank, which is not a bad thing, looks clear on the phone etc., keep that in mind
5. hit save when your done
6. drag it back into the SystemUI > res > drawable-xhdpi directory of the zip replacing the other one
7. put it in the folder of your new project and name the folder so you know what it is
8. now create the same folder in AndroidThemes folder on your internal storage
9. Unplug the phone as to unmount storage, or unmount it manually, your choice
10. open MetaMorph, download from market if you haven't already, free one is fine
11. tap Unzip / Extract new theme
12. find the folder of your newly created project
13. tap the zip, if its your first time doing this just hit close, but if you've done this before you'll have to hit update, then close
14. Tap apply all at the bottom right
15. Most likely SystemUI.apk wil crash and phone will be unusable
16. just pull the battery and reinsert and turn back on
17. enjoy your custom softkeys

I'd like no have NO background and just have the soft buttons that way I can get my .1 inches of the display back LOL. Think it's possible?
Its just a black background. If it was transparent I dont think the screen would go down that far and if it did the soft buttons would be covering the dock so it wouldnt work. Thats why they made the screen the size it is so usable space is about 4.5 inches
Awesome idea!
rings are in drawablexhdpi...those other ones you found idk why they are there
I've done a couple ...they are neat.

Actually it should work.. if you break the systemUI.apk file the useable screen extends Down to the bottom of the screen. The buttons would still be there so you couldn't say place buttons there but it could make a pretty sweet look..

should still work, it modifies one png in the /system/app/SystemUI.apk which is the png for the flash in the background of the softkey, so the beauty of it is, it will either work or it wont work, but nothing bad can come of it. I'm betting it'll work for sure, unless the xml was edited to pull the background flash png from another place or with another file name, hence the reason i say it'll either work or not work, but nothing bad can happen, so give it a shot and let me know, so i Can add it to the OP.

What about custom soft-key functions? I'm longing for the search/voice search button that my old DInc had.
Not sure why Google left this out in the GN :~(
Just tried this mod on zygot3 with the custom launcher. It didnt work, took away the soft buttons. Oh well I really love this mod but I also love having the settings button down there too... torn... lol
